Raising Canes is the highly acclaimed and inspiring new video series produced by the University of Miami athletic department that highlights the growth, development and dedication of UM student-athletes in action.
For those of us at Canespace the term "Raising Canes" is also about the many Hurricane fans out there that are dedicated parents and are raising their children to respect and value the tremendous achievements of the small, private, highly rated university located in Coral Gables that has established such a proud history and tradition of athletic excellence.
Known to its fans and foes alike simply as "The U", the University of Miami is one of the most recognizable brands in all of college sports. It has become a brand with national and global recognition.
From Sebastian The Ibis to the iconic "U" with orange on one side and green on the other side that has marked the football helmets of five national championship teams and countless All-Americans.
You can bet that CanesGirlNC's daughter (seen above) knows of the remarkable accomplishments of the Hurricanes football program over the last 30 years and the phenomenal rise in academic standards at Miami over the last decade that have vaulted UM into the national spotlight for both its athletic and academic achievements on and off of the field.
Raising Canes is about Canespacers like KLCanefan and her daughter (seen above) at a UM basketball game and OhioCane's new born child wearing her little "Miami Princess" outfit before she can even hold a pom-pom, walk or say "Howard Schnellenberger" while laying in her baby crib (seen below).
Here is the latest masterful version of Raising Canes from the UM athletic department on the Miami Hurricane's most recent game at Virginia Tech.
The video tells the story of teamwork, leadership and commitment in the face of adversity from the perspectives of Head Coach Al Golden, Offensive Coordinator Jedd Fisch, QB Jacory Harris, RB Lamar Miller and OL Brandon Washington and Harland Gunn:
We will be bringing you the "Raising Canes" video series throughout the year courtesy of the UM athletic department so stay tuned for future episodes and please send us your photos of your children dressed in Canes gear to be posted on the blog.
Some photos are just priceless, like the one I recently received of Canespacer Willie Will From Nashville's new born baby boy. You will see that one next time we raise some Canes.
Raising Canes is a beautiful thing, wouldn't U agree!
Bow chick wow wow!!

I'm just kidding cGC, this defense isn't winning three more games to even qualify for the worst January Bowl game ever created, but don't give up hope yet.

what happened to Latwan Anderson?
Posted by: Hermosa Cane | October 14, 2011 at 11:58 PM
Former Cleveland Glenville safety Latwan Anderson announced via his twitter page Monday that he will be attending the University of Cincinnati. However, he will be a part of the 2012 class as he will attend prep school until December, also according to his twitter page.
One of the top players in the state of Ohio, Anderson committed to West Virginia at the U.S. Army All-American game, but never signed.
Instead, Anderson attended Miami last season on a track scholarship, and was going to walk-on for football. But, once he played a game for the Hurricanes, his scholarship would have been converted to football. The former five-star safety left the football team in October before leaving school altogether in December.
Since he never stepped foot on the field, Anderson could have four seasons of eligibility.

It's coming if it hasn't already. Nothing stays original for long whether running out of the smoke or the Braves adopting the FSU chop.
In that case, might as well have the U be the first. Do the 'haka' before the GTech game.
I would love to see the shocked faces of the crowd followed by the quick rush to ban it by the NCAA.

I will be able to see the game on local station - wbtv if anyone else is in the area - beautiful day for a game!
CC - it is just a bit depressing to see the best offense we have seen from them in a long time score enough points to win, but the D can't make those points hold up. Oh well.....
That pic up there is Heather with Curtis Porter (yes he actually played before he got injured!). Met his mother and family at that game, they are really great people

Pretty sad...Nicole is working the Race for the cure this morning....not much buzz at the school for football...kinda makes her sad. She says it really is a bummer when she is looking forward to basketball season at Miami!
At least Nick gets to experience the excitement!!!
Posted by: canechic | October 15, 2011 at 09:48 AM
CC - The first couple of games that I took Heather to they did not win but they were at the Orange Bowl. She thought that place was great, just all the noise it generated, the craziness of the fans. She told me the other day "I miss the Orange Bowl". And its funny because she never saw them win a game there. There was just something about that place.
Anyways off to yoga in full Canes regalia!
LETS GO CANES!!!

Worst 3rd Down Defense in the history of all of football at any level (really over the past 4-5 yrs) set to take the field at Chapel Hill in just over an hour.
I have the following questions:
1.) Can we get stops today ranging from 3rd and 3 to 3rd and 33?
and
2.) Is Spence the most overrated player in hurricane history (RayRay is all hype not really esteemed like Spence is by the fans)? Let's face it, the failures on 3rd down over his ENTIRE CAREER are largely on him. He is QB of the D, he effectively lost that VT game, and he is a huge part of getting burned by the TEs (and Spiller last year).
I think it is time to start calling his ass out. And I am.

I feel good about the Canes today. I think the Va Tech game might be a turning point in Golden's leadership, and things have (and will continue to) improve. The offense has got to start better and the defense has to finish better. The defense needs to do a better job against the run and they need to get stops on third down.
Golden will get that corrected. The defense has got to get better, and Ray Ray and the defense will be redeemed today. The Canes offense will be challenged because UNC is talented and deep. We will see how talented and diverse the Canes are on offense today. If the Canes can produce another 500+ yds, no turnovers and 35 points, they should win. As bad as the Canes D has been, they should be capable of holding UNC to less than 30 points.
