Over the years we have met several dedicated Miami Hurricane fans who have raised their children to carry on the famous tradition of rooting for the school known simply as "The U".
Long-time Canespacer OcalaCane and his son (seen below) even went so far as to go deep into enemy territory when they went to Gainesville for the Regional baseball tournament against the dreaded Gators. Being a "Gator Hater" is essential for all 'Canes fans.
Veteran Canespacer UMike (seen below) has taken his son to several UM Spring games, Fan Fests and other events over the years with great pride and joy.
Any good parent and Miami Hurricane fan has to respect that, right?
In fact we have had several Canespacers celebrate the birth of a whole new generation of University of Miami fans just recently.
At least five Canespacers have announced the births of their children on the blog in the last two months alone. Obviously there is a lot of love out there in Canespace for The U and for each other!
Now thanks to the new series of insightful videos from UM, we can simply let the current UM players show us how it is done in real time.
Here is the latest installment of "Raising Canes" from the University of Miami athletic department:
We also have many old skool 'Canes who have been doing this kind of thing for a several years across many children now. Some have the tradition down to a science after a few experiments.
Some parents and Canespacers like Canechic and AngryCane did such a good job of raising their children that they grew up to be honor students and even managed to get an academic scholarship to attend the prestigious private university located in Coral Gables.
Other parents decorate their home and go so far as to paint their kids rooms and even their children's faces in the highly favorable colors of orange on one side and green on the other side.
Now that's a level of commitment that demands respect.
These parents know that an early education and indoctrination into Hurricane history and championship glory is an essential part of a proper upbringing.
Here is another of the most recent versions of "Raising Canes" from UM:
And someday in the future an entirely new generation will be born to those kids who were properly educated and will once again be raised to be proud Miami Hurricanes.
Hurns!

this is a good link to most of the games. from what i saw it was what everyone said. this defense has whole but needs to focus on what the coaches are saying and playing within their gaps. brandon mcgee is terrible..

Donna should call UM alumni Drew Rosenhaus for some donations...
Last night on 60 minutes...
http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=7384066n&tag=re1.galleries
Rosenhaus was born on October 29, 1966 in South Orange, New Jersey. Four years later his family moved to North Miami, Florida. He attended and graduated in 1987 from the University of Miami. In 1990, he obtained a law degree from Duke University School of Law. Drawing heavily from his college connections, 24 of Rosenhaus' 100-plus NFL clients are fellow University of Miami alumni. In 1989, aged 22, he became the youngest registered sports agent. By 2008, Rosenhaus had reportedly negotiated over one billion dollars in NFL contracts...

Yes, the Seminoles could still beat Miami and Florida, but that’s no big accomplishment when both of those programs are down as well.
This is not to say Jimbo is on the hotseat. It is, after all, only his second season as a head coach and he has done a remarkable job modernizing FSU’s football program and upgrading the recruiting. But at a program like Florida State, expectations are high and you have to win on a consistent basis. In Tallahassee and Gainesville and Coral Gables, there’s no such thing as a five-year plan. You get three years, maybe four to prove yourself — especially in a league as weak as the ACC.

Canechic...very interesting article on prediciting games. I was never much for math but I did find it interesting that they included in the formula: sacks, turnovers and penalties which are prolly the three biggest determinatnts to the outcome of any game.
I read somewhere one time that on drives where there is a major penalty or sack there is less than a 20% scoring chance as compared to when there is not a sack or major penalty and there is a 45% chance of a score.
Holding penalties and sacks are drive killers and point erasers.
Posted by: SOUP | October 10, 2011 at 06:46 AM
I thought it was interesting too. I read another one that was so darn confusing....no way I could figure that one out ever....I am not a Math person at all and probability my least favorite. But it seems defense ways in heavily and sadly I just heard Al Golden say canes defense "Is what it is" and it is!!!
We shall see what the rest of the season holds.

Telemaque, Spence, Regis, Ojomo, M. Robinson, A. Smith,Nichols & before they got hurt Buchanan & Forston. Ray Ray came back this week & Vernon, will be back in 2 weeks, what do these guys represent, starting experience of at least 2 years or more, and yet our defense can't stop a cold, with these veterans. I mean where are these guys. The CB's were already going to be a problem but we are making them look worse because we don't pressure the QB and we do have a habit of making an ordianry QB look great. No blitz packages, no bump & run, and no pressure. Denofrio has to play the hand he's dealt but that hand wasn't without experience coming back and these guys look worse than they ever had. I'm not saying their not giving 100%, but they look clueless out there. Vernon coming back is not going to help our DT position and that position is in dire straits, with only 2 healthy guys on our entire 85 man roster. That position is so loaded, that we only have one verbal recruit at that position, on our 24 man verbal class.Va. Tech punted one time, one stinking time, the entire game. At least when we played Maryland we had an excuse, for them punting once, everybody was out. What's the excuse now. Oh, Buchanan & Forston are out and Vernon is still not playing. The scheme or lack there of is the problem. Everybody has injuries but the lack of or ignoring certain positions, in recruting has gotten us in this position, which is not Goldens fault but this is his class coming in and I see that a certain position is being ignored again. We need play makers not just a body.

This is the best I've ever felt in a loss. Jacory and the offense played great. The team didnt call it a day at the half. The defense needs work but with all the inexperience, injuries and new scheme that is to be expected. Cant wait to get Vernon back, A. Smith is lost out there and thats putting it kindly. Still saw too many flat footed defenders waiting to absorb contact instead of initiating it. It took a near perfect game by Thomas to beat us, just wish we could of got one more stop...

Golden loves to talk out of both sides of his mouth about no excuses before blaming the previous regime for what's costing his team games when the truth is his college roommate and his same old coaching faults are the culprits. If Randy Shannon's defense looked like this the detractors would be hollering from the rafters about how could a former DC let that side of the ball look this unprepared and perform this ineffectually. Well, what was Golden's responsibilities at UVA again? Right.

1. Agree. They need to play with more confidence and be much more agressive.
2. Me too. Just like the K-State game just one more play, one more block or tackle by the UM offense or defense, could have changed a season.

DA SKREETZ questions:
1. There's been MANY ppl that are worried about this D and Coach D. What is the problem with this D? Is it Coach D's fault? Players faults? Inexperience? Schemes?
2. Barring injury, do U think The Truth leaves for the NFLU after this season? I sure hope not, but if he keeps this pace up, I can't see him staying...
3. If he does leave, can Eduardo handle the load and be as productive as LM6?
Thanks for all the SKREETZ info!

OGV - LOL I know you don't like Golden but the team looked plenty bad at times under RS - think Peach bowl a$$ whooping, Louisville butt kicking, last year's cave-in against FSU and last game in the OB against Virginia for starters. Our defenses under RS as DC are going to be higher than D-Onofrio that's for sure but we had different players and assistants. Wow - we have played in alot of bad games haven't we? YIKES

I know as bad as most of us felt after the game Saturday, after seeing the post game presser with Golden, I can honestly say nobody feels as bad about that game as he did.
We as fans can move on after a loss but they can't. They have to watch that film over and over to learn and teach...It has to be tough.

CGNC, 3/4ths of those examples have two words attached to them that speak volumes for that poor beleagured UM defense over those particular 60 minutes: Turf Face. ("Suck it," would also apply for the degenerates out there who can't get over the Attitude era.)
As for this year, like I've said, Golden needs to win 2/3 of OSU (handed to UM on a platter thanks to bad QB play/coaching on the visitor sideline), VT (handed to the home team thanks to bad defensive coaching on the visitor sideline) and FSU (rivalry game tossup, could be a one score margin, could be a blowout or a secure two score or more win for or against the visitors, but you know Golden has a much better QB rotation to rely on than Shannon did his first year when he won the road game!)
It's a month down the road from now and FSU will have an extra two days coming off a Thursday night game to prepare but the home team has lost the last five, there have been six straight upsets and nine out of the last 10 have been finaled scored by seven points or less.
I've got no problem with Golden personally since I don't know the man but it's his coaching career and his results on field that rub me the wrong way until he gets it right for once at UM. Mike Leach is still available a short days drive and boat ride away. Thanks for nothing Special K.

For those who said we won't win another game... After that last game, I can see us winning most, if not all, of the remaining games.
We're due to win @ UNC, then we have 3 home games.
GT, UVA, and Duke. UVA and Duke are scrubs, and we'll beat them. I'm not sure about GT, but I'll be picking us to win that game.
@FSWho but they're overrated. Should be a good game.
@USF, we'll be using that as a revenge game, and will go ALL OUT.
Then BC... Well, it's BC, and they lost their only threat last week (Montel Harris), I believe for the season.
