Great article, soup! Damn these work firewalls, wish I could figure out a way to get past them so I can contribute during the work day. As for a couple of other things:

LOL j.w. and I are not "crazy" - apparently we are "country azz" :-D

Now that's a compliment! :) We have our barn Christmas party this wekeend, need to bake some horse treats, I'm open to any suggestions you've got, CGNC.
And:
CAN'T U JUST SEE OGV'S HEAD EXPLODING RIGHT ABOUT NOW?

NO. I see him in a laboratory with bunson burners and beakers in a white coat whipping something up in response - LOL

Make us think, OGV, do it respectfully, do it right. You may or may not be right, but opinions make the blog go when they are expressed right.

SOUP with this article you won your Case.
I like facts as a member of the Jury plus we never heard back from the prosecutor OGV who is by the way late for court.

Duke is a winner...Boy am i glad that the 2008 MNW class is gone except for Sean the great Spence. It will be so funny to see little Duke beside Seantrel Green Giant.

Duke will bring in some more winners...You can count on that.

Montreal_Cane

SOUP and Ohio what do you think of Drew Rosenbs???

Do you think Forston was let go?

Who do you think will transfer because they are no longer in coach Golden's plans?

DarealHassan

Duke is a beast,

#1 does anyone notice he runs harder then Miller?
#2 anyone notice that he uses his stiff arm like a pro, something miller can learn.
#3 Although Duke is smaller then Miller they are both essentially speed backs, If Duke can get 190ish by fall he will be fine.

I, for one, hope you don't revert back. If you are man of conviction, you don't hide your damn name. If you look at the Sun Sentinel and Herald posts, it is pretty obvious that one or two people conspire to create an air of negativity on those blogs. I have enjoyed the blog since the change. Yes, there is less activity but that is because the football season is over. The committed bloggers have done what you asked us to do. Why should you drop your commitment after asking us to commit?

I liked the defense in the blog. However, you know it isn't accurate. Being a big time coordinator means you not only win stat wars but you win games. D'nofrio made sell out blitzes against both Maryland and K State that were not necessary early in the season, and against Boston College. The BC blitzes were more notorious because at that point in the season, he had sufficient time to evaluate who he was playing every week.

Also, he played Jimmy Gaines before he played Perryman during the year. While Jimmy may eventually develop into a great player at UM, this was not his year. His poor read on the Logan Thomas fourth and 1 run against VT in the fourth quarter left the middle of the field wide open, and, correct me if I am wrong, but that is a middle linebackers responsibility.

Above all else, both offensively and defensively, you must control the middle of the field. I love Tyler Horn, well respected kid, very eloquent for a center but he was never dominant like a center should be. Jimmy Gaines, nice kid, but there were multiple times when he failed to control the center, and was slow to react to off tackle plays. I hate to make the comparison but it is like chess. If you lose the king's or queen's pawn in any chess match, you will eventually lose the match.

I would make two arguments why that is D'Nofrios fault. The first is obvious. If Gaines is not making plays by game 5, you bench him. Second, you had a senior to work with who could have played the middle, and who had the size to do so - Jordan Futch. But you kept him at a position he will not excel at if he were to advance at the next level. And by Golden's own admission, the defense lacked physical strength inside. Yet Futch was that guy. They basically threw away Futch for giving Gaines experience, and if you go through this season, and the big plays against the Canes this year, you will see consistently they involved Gaines being slow to react to them. That is not the kid's fault. He did his best. But it was a classic case of expecting too much from the young man too early in his career.

I am in complete agreement that the offense completely under performed. I suppose it had to based upon the defensive liabilities. I like Jacory Harris, and I truly appreciate his contributions to the program. But he waited way too long during games to show us his best stuff. He never perfected a screen pass during his four years, and we saw little of what used to be a staple of our offense, the wide reciever screen up the middle. But I hope whatever the future holds for him, as a player or as a coach, that he finds happiness.

After letting go of head coach Rick Neuheisel and attempting to hire several big names, UCLA has finally found a head coach.

According to the LA Times, former Seattle Seahawks and Atlanta Falcons head coach Jim L. Mora will be named to the position on Saturday.

People who WANT to be here on the Space will figure it out. People who want to be trolls here will be quickly weeded out.

The population will rebuild... give it time... don't cave...

This is the crap you get other places..especially if there is no sign in...

Just a matter of time before the "true" rumors and leaks of just how bad the NCAA will hit Miami, and they will as a repeat offenders within 10 years, that Duke Johnson and many others will withdrawl their commitments and go elsewhere.

U'll see, but enjoy it while U can Cane Fan.

I think a lot of the problem with the defense this year was the age old debate that accompanies a new coaching staff with a new scheme...do you continue the old defense (utlizing the players that were recruited specifically for that defense), or do you say, to heck with it, we're going to be here a long time and let's get these kids coached up on the way we want to play and take our lumps for a couple of years until we get our players in here?

D'no plays a defense that stops the run with the front seven and gap responsibility...Miami (since Jimmy Johnson) has played defense with the mentality that you "beat your man and go to the ball". Both work...if you have the right players for your system. Think of it as the Dallas Cowboys defense (old Miami) vs the Baltimore Ravens defense (D'no Miami).

The problem is that Dallas cannot play Baltimore's scheme with the Cowboys players...and vice versa. Until we get the LB's and DT's and DE's to play the defense D'no is teaching (3-4), we are going to have problems. If you have to commit DB's to stop the run in this scheme...you're dead.

I do appreciate the fact that Golden has decided to start the long term (2-3 years) rebuild process rather than kick the can down the road.

1. The Defense could not cover a fat lady in a phone booth.

2. Our Dl got less penetration then Pee Wee Herman.

Posted by: DarealHassan | December 09, 2011 at 09:09 PM

1. No I saw the drills on this and in fact they COULD cover the fat lady in the phone booth. They just couldn't cover the TE over the middle, any combo or crossing patterns, the out route, the slant, the post or the streak route.

2. Pee Wee would be pissed about that comparison. He gets a LOT more penetration than our DL did. BY FAR!

NOTICE TO ALL CANESPACERS:

Thanks for ALL of your support for the NEW Canespace. Signing in through Typepad, Twitter or Facebook is not a big deal once you do it a few times it becomes very easy.

I agree that for those who value the conversation here on The Space they will find a way to get in through those channels so we can verify who is here and eliminate the trolls and imposters.

The blog will stay "as is" for the time being. We may eliminate the sign in function during game days next season to allow a more free flow of comments during games ONLY.

Once again, THANK U for your continued support of Canespace!

86Cane

For the record...I am not trying to make an argument that the 2011 UM defense was good. That would be foolish.

I am just trying to say that there are reasons WHY they were not good beyond the bashing of D'No as a bad coach who should be fired after one year. That nonsense is beyond ridiculous.

I have more "evidence" from the Temple team that he and Golden left behind that I will post in Part II of the "Defense of D'Onofrio" early next week.

This is the last o.o.c. big name team they play. So far the only decent win o.o.c. came against an 8-3 UMass team

After this its 4 games against lower tier opponents then off to league play

In Defense Of D'Onofrio?

Sorry guys but the only stats that count are these:
How many games did U WIN because the defense excelled?
How many games did U LOSE because the defense sucked?

Listen, in the final analysis it is the HEAD COACH who is responsible for both the OFFENSE and the DEFENSE (and special teams too). So, if the GOLDEN one wants to retain D'Ono (and K'ho and whomever), WhU am I to complain?

Let's hope he lands a stellar 2012 recruiting class. After all, the new Coach's first recruiting class is the first big step toward rebuilding our football program and returning the U to BCS prominence again.

Ooops! When and where have I heard that before?
