Not sure how many coaches would/or do this put pretty cool that UM coaches let AJ know about the issues he may be facing if he signed....HMMM wonder if other coaches would have been so honest?

RCCF

1. How much better would this team have been if they didn't have to put up with so many coaching changes over the last five years?
2. Who is looking like a real transfer away from UM and not just hearsay?
3. Which players are MOST likely to leave UM early for the NFLU?
4. Are U a 12%er?

RCCF 12%er

Of course beating Glades Central in the Muck won't be easy. Glades Central, a six-time state championship program, might as well have a sign posted up somewhere near Effie Grear Stadium that reads: Where opponents' dream seasons come to die. Since 1997, the Raiders have gone 30-1 at home in the playoffs.

wow

roachcane77

I've heard that there will be no coaching changes... is that what you all believe?

Any opinions on our D' Coordinator? (Mark D)

I know he isn't going anywhere, (being such a close personal friend of AG... ), but do you think he can really handle this job? (Or is he in over his head, and a weak link?)

Any concrete info on NCAA penalties? AG seems to think we're not losing any scholarships... ideas?

In regards to DT recruiting Whiskey Tango Foxtrot are we targeting and what are our chances?

ChicagoCane

What's up 86, Solar, and the rest of you spacers....I have been lurking/reading a bit but not posting the past few months. My wife and I had our first, a beautiful baby girl (Andi) three months ago.

I look forward to tonight's chat with Mandingo, Susan, and Papa.

Happy Recruiting Season!

Ask.manny to track weight room progress this winter.

Ask with all of our commits are there any silents

Let's do this :-)

PBCFRCANE13: Coaches were upfront with Amos. They told him that they will honor the scholarship offer but he needs to go to Prep school and take care of business. He already has the ACT score, but previously taken classes are an issue.

Papa Cane - First of all, thanks for ALL the info I steal from U and post to these guys n gals here.

That said, who will be the biggest commit we get that's undecided currently? Any big surprises coming?

SaveUMFootball

RCCF - Answers to your questions:

1. How much better would this team have been if they didn't have to put up with so many coaching changes over the last five years?
- We just don't know. Coker was not a very good team leader and talent developer/evaluator. Shannon recruited really hard his first year and then decided to put recruiting a passive activity resulting in catastrophic results.

2. Who is looking like a real transfer away from UM and not just hearsay?
- Can't say right now. No one knows.

3. Which players are MOST likely to leave UM early for the NFLU?
- RB Lamar Miller & DE Olivier Vernon

ChicagoCane

Papa - I know CB and DLine seem to be areas of need for next year. However, I am worried about the QB position for the coming years. I know you have said in the past that Dewey is a solid prospect but is there a chance Golden goes for a top-flight prospect for 2013? Have you heard anything on Greg Olsen's brother?

86Cane

Welcome to the LIVE chat Chris, Susan, Manny and PapaCane!

There are a few questions posted above from RCCF but my FIRST question is this:

Did Al Golden get as much as possible out of the 2011 UM team or did he and his coaching staff leave something on the table or the bench?

CANED

@saveUMFootball -

Some people aren't giving our current class a ton of credit, saying Golden is reaching on some prospects. What is your opinion of this and are we getting the players we need to put THE U back on top?

Thanks

SaveUMFootball

RoachCane:

No coaching changes. No new DC, no new secondary coach, no new OL coach. Not on the first year.

Papa

CaneFan

What's going to happen with AJ Leggett now? I hope we don't lose him even though it's going to look that way now.

orange 'n green in the vein

What do you think the are dispersion of this signing class is going to look like once the faxes come in? Basically, how much percentage of the 2012 class from (South) Florida and how much from around the rest of the nation and where will the outsiders be drawn from?

Akosnitzky

@saveumfootbsll - I am excited about Duke Johnson (NOR). Can you discuss the future of the RB position? I am speculating that Lamar Miller may leave early.

SaveUMFootball

ChicagoCane:

2013 QB Kevin Olsen, Greg's brother, is close to the top of the list based on what I have heard. I think that UM will take 1 QB next year and possibly 2 of David Thompson goes baseball.

Papa

Chances Jelani Hamilton is a part of this class?

Q

Do any of you see any change in the coaching staff ?.Or is this the first year that we see stability ?

86Cane

SaveUMFootball...welcome to The Space! Good to have U here. Can I get U an adult beverage?

Q: Al Golden and his staff have been on the road BIG time since the season ended (early) recruiting. Where do we stand on the critical positions of DL, LB and DBs.

Antweil

IMHO Golden and crew left some on the table. I didn't like how the offensive line played in short yardage situations. B-Wash should have stayed at guard. Don't rob Peter to pay Paul.

I still can't believe the play calling at the end of the KSU game. 4 tries from the 2 yard line at home and come up lame?

And the secondary really regressed. Yes they lost B-Harris but VT and Ray were atrocious and frankly McGee should have been benched in favor of Finnie.

Hopefully they can do more with "their" players. Chick and Perry played well.

SaveUMFootball

86:

If we take the Orange and Green glasses off, and remove the U from the players helmets, and evaluate Al Golden, then all I can say is that what he accomplished is nothing short of a miracle. No depth at CB and across the defense, suspensions, injuries, etc. Most other coaches would have crumbled - see Maryland.

He got the most out of the players.

Papa

SaveUMFootball

AKOSNITZY:

I've been told that several folks close to Lamar Miller have encouraged him to go pro. He's had shoulder issues since HS, and his family is not wealthy by any means. If he can land a 1/2nd round spot, he should go.

Papa.

CaneFan

@SaveUMFootball: Is there any chance of Tracy Howard coming here? CB is one of the areas of need. I remember AG said that he had only one or two CB's when he arrived.

UMike

Manny_Navarro Manny Navarro
South Miami coach Lamont Green said #UM commitment CB AJ Leggett will visit Marshall this weekend.

86Cane

Justin...what are U doing these days and which FOUR players, 2 on offense and 2 on defense, would U say were Legends of the Fall (MVPS) this season?

SaveUMFootball

Antweil: I strongly disagree with your comment about the secondary underperforming. There is very little experience and depth there. Mike Williams was a 3rd stringer at Wake. McGee has bad hips. Finnie is a rookie. Crawford is a Safety and came in top heavy. Etc.

What depth? What talent to work with?

Papa

SaveUMFootball

CANED:

We need to let Coach Golden evaluate talent and offer the first year and then opine. He did a great job in evaluating talent at Temple (Wilkerson, anyone), and I am confident that he will not fall in Coker's trap (Stars, stars, and more stars).

Papa

Antweil

I'm in contact with some minor league/independent league teams about a baseball broadcasting job for the spring. I'm very optimistic so should hear back relatively soon. I'm in NY now.

Off MVP: Street and Miller

Def MVP: Spence and Chickillo

Q

who are some players that shined mid season or redshirted and your excited to see play next year ?

has Ricardo Williams beefed up ? How is Seantrel looking ?

SaveUMFootball

CANEFAN:

No one knows what Tracy Howard is going to do. I was told several weeks ago (5+) by a VERY reliable source that he was silent to FSU at the beginning of the season. That might have changed. Coach Golden is recruiting him HARD and UM needs him.

He could start from Day 1.

Papa

86Cane

Chris...from your point of view what were the biggest surprises (positive) and disappointments (negative) for the UM football team this season?

What has the mood on campus been by the players? How much do they interact with other students and show their fellings about the season?

I'm here now to take questions. I'll be here until 8:40.

No they didn't get the best out of the team. You can't argue that when most of their losses were decided by one score. I don't think they figured out who their best players were until the end of the season and I think in close games they didn't execute, particularly on defense

Question: Has the rise of the next tier football programs (FIU, FAU, UCF, USF) affected depth and continuity at the 3 big schools?

Also--

How is it that Vernon is even considering going pro? Kid has played 1 year here for the most part???

Q

with only a handful of scholarships left why is Coach Golden having Alot of visits this coming week ?

Def MVP: Spence and Chickillo

Solid like a ROCK!

Chris and Papa...same question to U: Name offensive (2) and Defensive (2) MVPs this season?

Gino

1 - What's the feedback you're getting from high school coaches about the recruiting approach of Golden and his staff?

2 - On Manny's blog, there was a tidbit on the fact Keith Brown from Norland was not contacted by the coaching staff for two weeks. If Randy Shannon and his staff had done that, wouldn't Cane fans be railing against him and his staff?

As much as I want Golden to succeed — because if he succeeds that means the Canes succeed — a lot of people are giving him a free pass. Granted, the whole Shapiro deal was way out of left field. But, Shannon was fired because the team "regressed" and didn't achieve anything on his watch. Golden was brought in to take the team to heights they did not see under Shannon. That wasn't the case this season as they finished with a worse record than last year. I think it's time to be a little bit more critical of Golden.

SaveUMFootball

86:

There are several new players that Coach Golden and his staff are evaluating right now at the DT, LB and DB position. I expect 1 commitment this weekend - maybe we can flip that UF verbal commit DT Omari Phillips who grew up a Canes fan.

Papa

caneiac

How many players will Golden take in this class. Right now were sitting at 28, say 10 more studs want in will golden take all their commitment and make room by cutting dead weight currently on the roster or will he take the best 7 to put the class at 35 commits. Also, how many players you see being told to transfer to make room for this incoming class

@saveumfootball

Antweil

SaveUMFootball:

VT and Ray Ray flat out stunk. There's no denying it or sugar coating it. Yes there wasn't depth I admit that and was the first to call out Shannon for that. Not Golden's fault. But then play Finnie if McGee has bad hips. And it just seems like the Miami secondary as a whole is more concerned about making a highlight reel play instead of staying on assignment and doing the little things.

And Miami didn't have any ball hawks. All the picks came off bad errors by the QB. Defenders never won a jump ball or snatched anything away from the opposition.

Remember the touchdown Kacy Rodgers gave up against FSU. He litterally was afraid of the pigskin. I just think more could have been done. Whether to blame to the players or coaches I don't know. 6 picks the entire year. SMH.

I believe their won't be any coaches fired, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Jedd Fisch move on to another place. It seems like he hasn't stuck anywhere. This may be the place, but I wouldn't doubt it.

And I don't think Mark D'Onofrio had a lot to work with. As the depth of the team gets better and as they progressed throughout the season, they got a little better. He still has to prove himself.

And I don't think they're in the clear with the NCAA stuff. But I think their level of proactivity in the wake of these allegations has been refreshing and very important.

roachcane77

Anyone close enough to the team to know for certain if they're hitting the weight room hard NOW?

Also, any chance of a nutritionist getting involved and having a TRUE training table & "planned" diet for our team?

Hassan

How much of an impact would aldarius have made?

How many recruits will play on the two deep next year

86Cane

Antweil says: "VT and Ray Ray flat out stunk. There's no denying it or sugar coating it. Yes there wasn't depth I admit that and was the first to call out Shannon for that. Not Golden's fault."

Hard to argue that! RR and VT were supposed to be the strength of the D but either the new system did not fit them or they did not fit the system or they were not coached well. Who knows?

CaneFan

Do you see Keith Brown committing with UM again or has that ship sailed? And is AJ Leggett going else where or do you think he's sticking with UM (going to prep school for a year) in order to be close to his son?

CANED

@SaveUMFootball:

What freshman do U expect to make the biggest jump from year 1 to year 2?
