Yep. Canes should have 9 EE's when it's all said and done.

3G Cane

While I agree this holds true much more often than not, the most recent BCS title game between Alabama & LSU certainly was void of quality QB's.

Cant argue with you there but in terms of masking deficiencies elsewhere in a team, IMO those are the most important positions that can mask shortcomings.

Ohio_Cane

Phillip Dorsett continuing the trend of Miami WR's switching #'s; former # 85 will rock the same # 4 jersey he wore at Miami Central in 2012

Hassan

Six

On Crow and Thompson, I say although they are not 5 star recruits they are no 0 star guys with 0 talent. They are good enough to play at a lot of places as a 3 star should be. THey also are VERY high character guys and supposed to be smart players and hard workers. SO even if they do not get good enough to start just having kids with some talent but that hard working still pushes the other players because they look bad next to these guys working so hard.

Ohio_Cane

^^ He meant same jersey #4 he wore at STA. He corrected himself.

2. Speaking on Howard, I read at one point he did want to leave the state but has since backed off that and it's down to the 3 Flo. schools, with us being in 3RD place. I'd eat a whole bag of crow if I'm wrong.

With the six DBs we have we only need ONE more and his name is Tracy Howard.

But how can U be sure we only have 6?

So if they don't get Howard, is there any other CB's they'll consider or will that be it for CB's if Howard doesn't come to the "U"?

The UM fan bandwagon toppled over and several of them got crushed underneath it. There orange and green body parts scattered everywhere.

Then at their funeral there was a mass suicide by some of the remaining and severely depressed hanger-ons.

Tragic really...

I can't imagine how Golden will be in recruiting if the whole Nevin Shapiro didn't happen, he is doing all these with a possible NCAA infraction clouding over the programs head.

Not sure if anybody posted this already. WOW if I was a teammate of this man I would run through a wall for him!!! New canes need to learn from this man!!

LB

Can anyone give me some insight about Hope? I don't know too much about him.

pre83

I can't say I know a lot about Coach Golden with him only being at the helm some 12 months, however, it certainly appears to me that he puts in his due diligence when it comes to evaluating players. Yeah, he seems to make a lot of offers to players who attended his camps, but that is part of the point, as he was able to see the player in person and I imagine get at least some idea as to the type of kid he has on hand.

He must also be quite impressionable given the cloud still hanging over the U with the Shapiro BS, yet still able to secure what appears to be a quality recruiting class.

Speaking of recruiting - having watched the NFL playoffs, it is simply incredible the number of players, most of them starters, if not stars, that are from the U. Of course, by in large, those players were recruited by Butch Davis. I saw a statistic just a few months back about the number of players in the NFL that played for Butch.

It is nothing short of mind boggling the sheer number of straight up super stars that he recruited and coached up. Can someone please tell me why he is not at the least a recruiting consultant for some team?? Honestly, say what you want about the man as I know there are a number of 'Spacers who are still bitter about the fact that he bolted for the NFL while giving the impression he was staying at the U, but what he did was nothing short of remarkable. Although it was not the right way to go about it in my view, I was never mad at the guy for getting a chance at the big time.

When you stop to think about it, I truly cannot recall any coach or program that even comes close to what just this one guy did. The NFL should send him a commission. I believe he recruited Hakeem Nicks and Coples is rated by many this draft's top DE. Even TJ Yates saw some serious minutes.

I don't mean to imply that Golden has to measure up to Davis or whatever. I think what triggered the thought is that Golden seems the closest to Davis that the U has had in the lost decade of Clappy & RS.

Only positive posts allowed until NSD please...Just for 1 week.

Time magazine already called Al Golden "The man of the year 2012".

Even if Howard is leaning a little more towards the University of Florida Prisoners...sorry Gators, i expect Al Golden to close the deal with Howard this WE.

Tracy Howard will be more than welcomed to the no.1 Institution in the State of Florida...

As for Young, Golden can do his magic.

Soup,
I'm a medium rare man myself.
I meant 6 db's not cb's, however i'd like to see 6 cb's,coming in and then surely we can find 2 good ones. If Golden can flip those 2 wanna be Gators, in Young & Howard and lest we forget Hamilton & Williams are coming in this weekend and maybe scoop one or both of those 2 dudes, then this guy can walk on water, as far as I am concerned, Bear Bryant style!

mi@mic@ne

Great post pre....we have a history as you know in bringing great players and developing them. Davis was not the first coach to do this. He was a d coach under JJ and in my opinion at that time we had the most talent of all the coaching staffs. Our dfense as i have been saying used to drive teams back to their own goal line.
There something special about playing in the winning atmosphere that was established 25yrs ago starting with Snells. Thats why Al brings these recruits to the campus even the ones who are supposedly are long shots to get. Once they see "the family" and the winning history we have displayed in the hecht its a big motivator to come and have that same winning success again. And i believe Al is a perfect fit with his attention to detail and his communication skills. We will be back ...

1. If someone could get an interview with Butch where he would discuss IN DETAIL specific players he recruited at UM and what he saw in each one that told him that they would be stars and future NFL HOFers that would be one of the BIGGEST interviews of ALL TIME. I would pay $$$ to see that as a TV special.

2. ROGER THAT!

3. I would hire him as an NFL Scouting Director or NFL Director of Player Personnel right now TODAY!

4. Yes U do and U should. IF Golden is going to be successful at Miami he will have to recruit like Butch did back then. Compare all U want because the bottom line is Golden HAS to get it done in recruiting and on the field. Interviews are great but WINNING GAMES cures everything!

Forget the sanctions, focus on the losing. Just imagine if Golden starts WINNING BIG at The U?

There will be no stopping him!

If da Bears offers the OC job and not just a QB coach job to Fisch, he will take it! Money they will have and it's an NFL job so it's gonna be hard to decline unless he really wants to help the U get to the promise land. Who knows? he might be one that really enjoys the college atmosphere.

Fisch is not going anywhere. He was in the NFL and wanted to become an OC in college to become in a few years a head coach in college. So don't worry all the UM coaches are coming back because they love it at the U with Golden and they know they have an amazing recruiting class. The future is "now" and it looks bright. Vault it!

Ohio_Cane

I just watched Manny's interview with Malcolm and Tracy... I'm starting to be a believer that TH will come to Miami. Moreso than earlier today. Only because of the relationship he has with the players, especially Malcolm.

I'm still not holding my breath, but I'll give it a 40% chance. Earlier I would've said 10%

Sean Spence is a Beast!!!

It's interesting to hear Tracy mention the past of Miami, he doesn't wanna live through other people's legacy and that he wants to make his own with the team. He also mentioned people expecting too much when you're compared with the past players and past teams, that you're set-up to fail. It seems to me he is somewhat implying what had happened to the 08 class, they failed to measure up to the past greats and they were ridiculed and vilified by our own fans, i think that has a lot do with some homegrown players going out of state or other in state schools for college, Northwestern guys seemed to have soured with us, we've burned bridges with Central and so many other local high schools and now Golden is cleaning up the mess.

Yeah i didn't think he was close with a lot of the miami commits, those guys are the key and Golden and staff basically just being real with him like Malcolm mentioned.

Sean Spence is a Beast!!!

Also loved Tracy's real appreciation of Duke giving up no.3 for him if he decides to pick Miami, he is seeing how his friends really wants him to stay home and play alongside with them. I'm not sure what he is gonna decide on, but just based on this interview, i think it's at least a 45% chance we land this kid and the other 55% is the turds, he doesn't seem to be too excited with FSU.

Tice already has the OC job at Chicago. Tice was then interviewing for a HC job at Oakland but he did not make the second cut. Now the Bears want Fisch to come in and be the passing game coordinator? Ok, I'm up in Chitown area (not a Bears fan but I do listen to their talk radio)

Lovie is on the hot seat this year, he needs to have a good season or the new GM that the bears will get could very well fire Lovie after year one. That would mean Fisch is out on the street after 1 year. Now why would Fisch want to leave Miami where he has complete control of the offense and go to Chicago and be the passing game coordinator under Mike Tice/Lovie "Run the ball every play" Smith?
This move makes no sense for Fisch. The Bears have 0 receivers. Their OLine sucks, they haven't even signed Forte yet. This move is a death wish if he takes it...plus its not even an upgrade in the coaching world. I think its a downgrade personally.

I think Fisch will be linked to alot of jobs in the future because the guy is good with developing QBs and a pretty good play caller. Now after 2-3 years I think he has a legit shot as a NFL OC but right now I don't think he would want to jump on the sinking ship that is the Chicago Bears

DrewZ2

Ohio - although I do not know what you know about Fisch, I do not think it happens.
