SECOND!!!

IraqiCane

3rd damn it.

2002nemo

4th, I guess . . . Kinda like Ron Paul.

TheWhat

Uh oh. Redskins looking to sign a 3rd receiver. Already got 2. Hopefully Leonard Hankerson can handle his business this year. He got hurt just as he was getting nfl good. I would hate to see him get cut or down the depth chart due to injury.

TheWhat

Santana moss should be safe though. Hopefully.

Go Pro Canes!

Well, it's too bad this doesn't have the time of the first pitch listed because now I have to go search for it and thus leave the blog to track it down to see if I can make it for this game.

Eye-opening numbers for Heat's Big Three; UM/NCAA news, Fins and more

Barry Jackson

WEDNESDAY BUZZ COLUMN

### UM, which wasn’t even notified it was being investigated by the NCAA until Aug. 15 (five months after Nevin Shapiro contacted the NCAA) now believes this ordeal could stretch well into football season or beyond. Here’s the timetable: When the NCAA completes the investigation, it will send UM a notice of allegations, without any mention of penalties.

UM then will file a response. If the school disputes any allegations, there will be a hearing in front of the infractions committee as many as 90 days later. Within two months or so after that, the infraction committee will determine the penalties.

The lead investigators on the UM case have a reputation for being tough: former Missouri State player and coach Rich Johanningmeier and Ameen Najjar, former attorney for the Illinois Police Department. One coach who was investigated by Johanningmeier was quoted a few years ago as saying: “Some of these guys, if they find a locked door, they just go home. This guy goes to the next door.”

Though UM won’t be surprised if it has at least one more bowl ban and scholarship losses, it hopes to be helped by the fact it is cooperating with the NCAA more than Ohio State and Southern California did.

The NCAA, moving slowly, still hasn’t called a lot of people that Shapiro implicated; Randy Phillips – who Shapiro said “was like a son to me” and was accused of taking benefits – said he hasn’t been contacted, for instance. The NCAA interviewed at least one player twice – Aldarius Johnson, because it believed he concealed information the first time. What did Johnson tell the NCAA the second time? “I just sat there,” he said.

Game is scheduled to start at 6:30 so my guess is the first pitch will be shortly after :-)

Six - you should be happy that Tampa signed Vincent Jackson to a 5 year deal. Tampa needed a deep threat and now they have one.

Any football buzz?

TheWhat

The lead investigators on the UM case have a reputation for being tough: former Missouri State player and coach Rich Johanningmeier and Ameen Najjar, former attorney for the Illinois Police Department. One coach who was investigated by Johanningmeier was quoted a few years ago as saying: “Some of these guys, if they find a locked door, they just go home. This guy goes to the next door.”

-------

Really? These guys are tough on what? Some student athletes getting money for everyday living while the NCAA cashes tens of millions of dollars off the backs of the players. If they were investigating actual criminals or real criminal activity I would commend them. But they are chasing kids and punishing kids for the actions of adults. Why are players forced to sit out games, yet not a single coach has been banned from coaching a game, or recruiting, or anything?

Rich Johanningmeier and Ameen Najjar are clowns. I can understand when someone is simply doing their job. But when you scrap and scrounge for the smallest type of infraction and harass kids in the process (just to boost your career) then you are nothing short of self righteous clowns.

If someone investigated those two I guarantee their closet would be more cluttered than the University of Miami as a whole.

I really hope Al Golden doesn't have to go through another recruiting year with this investigation hovering over the school.

Its All About the U!

Ohio_Cane

Check out the stadium Baylor is about to get... Makes me jealous. Heck, probably makes some NFL teams jealous

http://sports.yahoo.com/sportsminute

TheWhat

Thats a nice stadium. We should get a stadium like that but in the shape of a U. Why doesn't the University of Miami have any billionaire fans that love the school? A legit billionare not a ponzi schemer.

Texascane

The interesting part is that Baylor is a small, private school located in a backwater town. I remember that when I used to go with my buddies to see Tech play Baylor in Waco, we had to bring our own adult beverages as the three counties surrounding the town, as well as the city did not sell alcohol...

Great article on Malkin in SI last week. Syd returns on Thursday.

Yeah I read that last week at lunch

TheWhat

Texascane - Its amazing what having a billionare booster can do.

Ohio_Cane

Papa Cane - Recruiting Update: Miami has offered 2014 LB Vincent Jackson, 6'2'' and 220 lbs, out of Jesuit HS in Tampa, FL. USF and ND also offered.

all I need is $999,999,000.00 more and I qualify. :-)

Old Skool

Jesuit is where Vinny was coaching

j.w.

Strange that the investigation is dragging along so slowly, I'm trying to see why. cooperation is there, testimony is there, coaches involved are easy to find, players names who are alleged to have done anything are well known, so what's the problem?

herbieibis

NCAA lets you slow bleed!
What's the deal with BTW players thumbing us? The NW boys are already dong it.

Six

Old Skool - give me a shout on the email if you're in town and we'll go knock out some BBQ again if you want

That, or, we can go get the best sandwiches, mashed potato balls and sweet tea that Tampa has to offer at Broccato's .. it's over next to Ybor and everyone - EVERYONE - goes there to get them. Can't tell you how many times I've seen Doug Williams in there

Texascane

"MIAMI, FL – Rising high school star, Baby Slice, son of UFC star,Kimbo Slice, wants to play football at Notre Dame.

Kevin Ferguson always wanted to be an All-American linebacker for the University of Miami. It didn’t work out for the man better known as Kimbo Slice, but he may have a second lease on life with his son Kevin Ferguson II.

Though Kimbo wanted to play at Miami, Kevin is dead set on playing for The Fighting Irish. “The best linebackers in the country are at Notre Dame. That’s where I want to play. I want to play with Manti Te’o.”

Baby Slice should tell Vilma, Lewis, McIntosh, Beason, and Williams...and Notre Dame has who...?

Someone should also explain that T'eo will probably be gone to the NFL after next year.

Six

raizecane - no doubt, yesterday when the Bucs PR guy twittered/twatted/tweeted/whatever the hell it's called the stations in town about them getting Vincent before it hit the wires .... it put a smile on my face, ha - but the guy that really got me jacked was Carl Nicks

Gotta have the big uglies up front to protect Soul Glo Freeman #5, and not only do you get a Nebraska Cornhusker big ugly OL, you get a 2 time All-Pro ('10,'11) and take him away from a rival within your division

V.Jackson needs to stay out of trouble here though. Believe he's already had 2 DUIs, driving with a suspended license (that's not that bad) and showed a little bit of idiocy attitude toward the refs on the field a couple of times

Mike Wiliams and K2 gotta be happy

From the Knicks...

Spacers, I'm going to DC this week, can ya'll tell me some good places to eat there.

Ohio_Cane

Durand Scott has been reinstated for tonight's NIT game

Ohio_Cane

Manny Correction - Durand Scott has been reinstated by NCAA, but must serve 6 game suspension. FSU in ACC tourney was 1st gam

TheWhat

The NBA isnt the same if the Knicks suck. Just like college football is better when the Hurricanes are good. The knicks owner is slowly destroying that franchise. It would be great if fans could vote owners out.

Try Nandos - this might be all over the US though(chicken place)
El Pollo Rico - Best Peruvian chicken in the area (Arlington, Va.)
Rays Hell Burger - Everyone raves about it. Its not bad but I've had better.
If you wanna go really high end try The Palm in Tysons Corner, VA. Never been there but I hear its good but very expensive.
Bens Chili Bowl - Famous place for a long time.

By the way DC area traffic is beyond a nightmare so if your driving I highly recommend doing it during non rush hour. Before 3pm and after 7pm.

TheWhat

By the way I'm sure there are many more places to eat in the DC area that I missed.

I miss the Knicks vs Heat rivalry. I wish the Knicks would build properly so that can get started again.

Thanks TW, I'll have to give that El Pollo Rico a try. Anything with a Pollo in it has to be good, love Latino/Hispanic food...

j.w.

So let's see if I got this right- Scott is still suspended, the FSU game was the 1st of his 6-game suspension, and the rest of the NIT counts toward the games he must miss?

Texascane

World's greatest burgers...Shake Shack...of course there is one in Miami...

Texascane

Posted by: j.w. | March 14, 2012 at 04:20 PM

That's right, now let's compare to OSU and Terrelle Pryor...he has to miss five games, but he gets to play in the Bowl Game as it was "outside the parameters of the NCAA regular season schedule"...

Money talks...

Old Skool

Six
Brocatos is the best! Old school Tampa Cuban sandwiches plus deviled crab and long neck beer

TheWhat

Texascane - I'm gonna have to try that Shack Shack burger. Five Guys is probably the best in the DC area (its expanding all over though) I've had In n Out for those on the West Coast. Both are phenomenal.

j.w.

I love how the NCAA uses that excuse when it benefits OSU, etc. What can you do. . .

Texascane

What,

I have had them all and they all have their charm (Five Guys Fries...In-n-Out California Burger)but Shake Shack is my favorite...long lines to get in sometimes, though.

Canerock here's the best restaurant I've ever eaten at in the world (Second best is in Australia)

2941 Fairview Park Drive
Falls Church, VA 22042

Beautiful setting, food you're going to want to share with everyone else at the table which is separated by at least 6 feet maybe more from every other table, impeccable service - you ain't gonna want for anything. It's gonna cost, but it's double damn good.

Correct. So if UM gets to the finals of the NIT, Scott won't miss any regular season games next year.

Thanks Skool, sounds good...

Texas Cane -

Just doesn't make a whole lot of sense does it? Pryor got to play in his first bowl game and then hoped he could skoot off into the night..

Yet, the NIT which is outside the regular season... and Scott must miss it.

The whole damned NCAA is corrupt and never makes any sense.
