As every Miami Hurricane fan knows the UM football team has spent the entire off-season trying to get bigger, stronger and faster.
Every player on the 85 man roster has been working on strength and endurance. Last season Miami did not have a single player who could bench 225 pounds more than 25 times. Now they have eight.
Running back Mike James who is expected to carry the rock for the 'Canes in 2012 is one of those eight players. Surprisingly, James has been working with UM Strength and Conditioning coach Andreu Swasey primarily on his speed.
Almost to a man, the entire team has become bigger, stronger and faster. From a Hurricane fan's point of view it couldn't happen soon enough.
If you are a high school athlete and play organized sports like football, basketball or baseball and you want to become bigger stronger and faster over the Summer then you need to go to one place and one place only: Power Sports Academy's 5th annual Summer Camp at Western high School.
If you are the parent of a current high school athlete and want him or her to earn an athletic scholarship to a major D-1 college then you want to send your son or daughter to one place and one place only: Power Sports Academy.
If you are the current reigning heavyweight wrestling champion of the world in your respective league then you want to head to one place and one place only: Power Sports Academy.
If you are just a couch potato or have been to too many tailgate parties and find yourself seriously out of shape and overweight then you too need to head right on over to Power Sports Academy to get fit.
Current University of Miami offensive lineman Jon Feliciano, who happens to weigh in at 6-5 and 320, went to Power Sports Academy when he was in high school and he now has a full scholarship to play for the Hurricanes.
Oh, and by the way Jon, or Mr. Feliciano as we refer to him now, has become a starter in only his second year on the team. So yeah, I guess it works!
In case you were wondering, this is the guy who can and will get it done:

My philosophy has been developed over 10 years of extensive research, and even more so throughout my life of an obsession with strength. I earned my Master's degree in Exercise physiology, but have learned far more through the years in the trenches making mistakes and learning from them. I have used myself as a guinea pig for all my training over the past 15 years. My philosophy is a simple one, "train hard, train smart, and put the body under greater stress in training than it could ever face in competition. Competitions should be fun, the training up to the competition is where the work is done."
So no matter what your current status is, if you are an athlete, couch potato or king of the tailgate, we encourage you to put down the remote, set down the bag of chips and salsa, get your lazy self off the couch and go get fit at Power Sports Academy.
Call 954-829-4144. And please, do it NOW!

Canes blow an excellent chnace to win the game with runners on first and third with one out in the bottom of the tenth as Dale Carey hits a short fly ball into RF and the runner from third (Broad) gets thrown out at the plate.
We go to the 11th inning...
Posted by: SOUP | April 07, 2012 at 11:52 PM
Canes had the bases LOADED in the bottom of the 11th and O'Brien on 2B and left the regular batters in, no pinch hitter, and failed to get a hit and produce a score.
Forget this, I am going to sleep...

SOMEWHERE SIX IS SMILING...
Over five and a half hours after the Hurricanes' Saturday night contest against No. 3 North Carolina was originally slated to begin, freshman Esteban Tresgallo knocked his third career homerun around the foul pole in left field for a walk-off shot in the bottom of the fourteenth inning, lifting the Canes to a 4-3 victory.
"It feels great of course," Tresgallo said after the game. "I was trying to get on top of the ball, and I hit it pretty good. It snuck out."
Pause.
"...thankfully."
Not one of the 3,189 fans in attendance at Alex Rodriguez Park was more thankful than Head Coach Jim Morris, who saw his team squander multiple late-inning opportunities in a variety of disappointing twists and turns. The team left 17 runners on base, only three shy of the program record.
"If you lose a game like this it kills you," Head Coach Jim Morris said. "Because we just had so many chances to win."
Then came Tresgallo's slice of brilliance in the final inning, a fastball from Tar Heels' shutdown reliever Michael Morin just cleared over the 330-foot marker in left field. The hit, Tresgallo's first of the game, clinched the game and the series for the Hurricanes. What next?
An obligatory bunny-hop into the welcoming arms of his frenzied teammates at homeplate, of course.
"It's incredible. Everybody was super excited," Tresgallo said. "We beat a great team, UNC is a great team. We have to keep it up."

Marlins win first game of the season 8-3.
BTW on April 14 U have the Spring Game at 2 PM at Sun Life and then Marlins baseball at 7 PM the same day.
I'll be at both events. Gonna tailgate with CutlerRidgeLaz and his crew from The Joe Rose Show on WQAM and #CanesFam on Twitter.

OGV...NO! I only said IF U were the heavyweight champion of the world then you might want to attend PSA. But obviously U do NOT qualify under that criteria. ;-)

It's never a real Easter until there's a scaly turd tossing stones from its glass double-wide on it. Now I can say officially, Happy Easter everybody, now turd fans, clean up your meth lab.
I'll be at games one and two of the Panthers/Devils series and of course like the chances of a short one, but will probably buy contingent tickets to game five and seven too even with the $4/gallon gas just in case it goes longer. My totally not bold prediction for the NHL this year? Central division survivor loses in six to the Atlantic division survivor, whoever that shakes out to be (Blues/Devils?), in the finals. As was once a popular tag-line around these parts, in regards to the battle of Pennsylvania, strap up. Then flip your coin to find out who wins.

I'll +1 that. When working cohesively, academia & athletics can be a beautiful thing. I'm an academics first and always will be, but it is possible to have the best of both worlds (see Duke and Miami).
Can someone clear up this Avery Johnson buzz I heard? He's still a Tiger, correct? Furthermore, didn't Tracy Howard eat him alive in coverage?
A nice get, but it just seems odd timing. I'd like some clarification. Cheers.

Spacers, I'm trying to get rid of an old clunker. What I want to know beforehand is who pays more, the salvage yard, or the scrap yard? Or are they both the same...
Posted by: CaneRock | April 09, 2012 at 10:10 AM
LB,..there is just some twitter buzz that he might want to come here..he is signed to LSU..so IDK..maybe just wanting attention..he has been going back and forth with Duke Johnson on twitter, posted a pic of the U, etc etc
Posted by: UMike | April 09, 2012 at 10:12 AM
Well, with Claiborne leaving, maybe LSU was planning on putting Johnson at CB. And if I'm not mistaken, wasn't Claiborne a converted WR at LSU, if so, it ended up being a great move because He's projected to go high in this month's NFL draft. Avery would be an IDIOT not to consider that move if that's the case.
But besides that, I would hope AG WOULDN'T want anything to do with this kid. If He's runnin' His mouth behind LSU's back, what the hell do you think He's gonna do when He get's to Coral Gables. Thanks for your interest Avery, but NO THANKS!

TrueCane...YES, there will be UM ticket office reps ON-SITE at the Spring Game to take and process your ticket orders.

Thank you for all the helpful responses.
It sounds great since I can just get it done there and forget about it. Since I just moved back from out of state, the last time I was at a game I was a student and it was in the orange bowl.

The Urban Meyer article was pretty interesting. Ohio State is going to have the same problems. Another team that will have similar problems is Florida State.
Posted by: TheWhat | April 09, 2012 at 01:30 PM
I have a hard time believing that any $EC or O$U like team will ever be seriously investigated and punished by the NCAA. Would absolutely LOVE to see it though.
Posted by: 3G Cane | April 09, 2012 at 03:15 PM
3G- But they did go after Ohio State just this year. This conduct by Meyer is what he does- skirts the rules, preaches integrity while doing whatever he pleases, and getting his media lapdogs and Tebow to sing his praises. Maybe in a conference like the Big 10 his colleagues will turn him in more, the $EC is just too corupt to expect that from other coaches.
