Just in case you were living under a rock over the last few days and missed it the University of Miami had a total of six football players selected in the 2012 NFL Draft.
It was the 25th time in the storied and illustrious history of "The U" that six or more Hurricanes have been drafted in one year. With the six newly selected NFLU draftees Miami has now produced 309 drafted players since 1938.
The Canes' six draftees ranks tied for third among the nation's football programs behind only Alabama (8) and Georgia and Oklahoma (7). Cal, Michigan State, Iowa, Wisconsin and Boise State each had six draftees.
CANES IN THE 2012 DRAFT
DE Olivier Vernon - 3rd round (72nd overall) to the Miami Dolphins
LB Sean Spence - 3rd round (86th overall) to the Pittsburgh Steelers
RB Lamar Miller - 4th round (97th overall) to the Miami Dolphins
WR Travis Benjamin - 4th round (100th overall) to the Cleveland Browns
WR Tommy Streeter - 6th round (198th overall) to the Baltimore Ravens
OG Brandon Washington - 6th round (200th overall) to the Philadelphia Eagles
Offensive players who were signed were OL Harland Gunn (Cowboys), OL Tyler Horn (Falcons), TE Chase Ford (Eagles) and WR LaRon Byrd (Cardinals).
Defensive players who signed NFL free agent contracts included DL Adawale Ojomo (Giants), DL Marcus Forston (Patriots), DL Micanor Regis (Falcons), DB JoJo Nicholas (Giants), LB Jordan Futch (Bucs).
In addition former UM players QB Jacory Harris and OL Joel Figueroa also recieved invitations to rookie camp tryouts with the hometown Miami Dolphins.

Man, talking about a season turned sour. The baseball team needs a shot in the arm and quick! What gives?
That was in good part rhetorical. You simply can't make that many mistakes game in and game out and win.
I'm not an alum nor a die hard fan (unlike football), but it appears it's time for Eichorst to stop working on his tan and get after finding a new HC.

So, with Tebow in the Phins division now and Tannehill selected to be the Savior in South Beach, is it safe to say there won't be another "Timmy Day" at Sun Life this season?
Not that I care as I don't give a phuck about the Phins, but that move had to piss off more than this Cane fan and it was one of Ross's oddest moments - and that's saying something!
Then again, what do you expect from Wolverine alums? (I keed - but I do hate UMich)

I'm seriously waiting for the bearded lady, the strong man, the juggling clowns and the elephants to be lead onto the field every time the Canes take the baseball diamond
Let's see, for the 3 game series with UVA that the Canes just finished and were swept - AT HOME - here we go
UVA 31 hits 1 error
Miami 15 hits 14 errors
Anyone, anyone please come up with any sort of legitimate reason that the Canes don't need to make a change at the helm (and haven't needed to make a change for the past few years)
I feel like the old anti-drug commercial where the girl puts an egg in the skillet on the stove and says "this is your brain", then takes the skillet and starts going insane with it, taking batting practice by smashing everything in the kitchen for 10 seconds and calmly says - "this is your brain on drugs, any questions?"
That combined boxscore of the 3 games is equivalent to the skillet smashing everything in the kitchen

Did anyone else notice that the Arizona Cardinals put the franchise tag on Calais Campbell? That means he will be guaranteed top 5 DE money for his new contract. He was never healthy while at Miami but has really balled in the NFLU.

Omar Kelly is a clown. He got his butt handed to him by Michael Irvin the other day he tried to say that the difference between a 2nd rd player and a 6th rd is insignificant he could not be more wrong.
Last year's Round 2, Pick 1 Ras-I Dowling 4year/5.304mil 2.357 signing bonus
Last year's Round 2, Pick 32 - Randall Cobb 4year/3.21mil 834k bonus
Last year's Round 3, pick 1 - Terrell McClain 4year/2.8mil 703k bonus
Last year's Round 3, pick 33 - Sione Fua 4year/2.55mil 514k bonus
Last year's #98 Overall pick (Round 4, Pick 1) signed a 4 year 2.74million contract with 700k signing bonus.
Last year's #131 overall pick (Round 4, Pick 32) signed 4year/2.34million with 300k signing bonus.
Last year's #165 overall pick (last pick in 5th round) 4year/2.18million, no bonus.
Everything after that is pretty close as far as I can tell. about 500k a year and no bonus.
So the difference is about 700k a year and difference of up to $2mil plus guaranteed and ZERO. And that doesn't even consider getting more reps and more chances the higher the pick you are.

Great news six, Olsen seems like a really good player, I like good QBs.
Nice to see J12 get an invite, but think about how he holds that ball, does not read progressions well. Then think of a NFL rush as opposed to what he has faced...and the Dolphins are pretty bad......he takes a hit that will kill him....make the UVA hit fell like a nudge. J12 is a nice young man.....he is not an NFL, Canada, Arena, or Indoor league QB. I would think he would be a great teacher, and he would probably be a good coach at some level....very good guy.
Posted by: VA Cane | May 01, 2012 at 11:13 AM
VA CAne i do agree with you on some points but i feel that there have been some really bad Qbs in the NFL worse then Jacory that have gotten some playhing time. But idk im just pulling for the kid he went through alot in his career and he loves the U.
Posted by: UpNorthCane27 | May 01, 2012 at 11:25 AM
Hey VA Cane that kid Phillip sims from a couple years ago is transferring out of Alabama, never beat Aj Mccarron for the spot... Did u ever get to watch the kid play?
