Gin and Tonic...welcome back to da Space!

Susan Miller-Degnan from the Miami Herald is supposed to be here tonight at 8 PM.

See U then...

Montreal-Cane

Plain and simple Susan who is the better QB
Morris or Williams?

Do you see improvement from last year and do you think an 8-4 season is realistic?

Anything new on the NCAA investigation?

Beside Scott and Perryman who are the most improved players?

Do we have any injured players who won't be able to start fall camp? Anyone out for the 2012 season because of surgery?

4-Real

Is it me or does this coaching staff seem 2 be doing more evaluating than recruiting??

Ohio_Cane

4-real, is that a worry of yours, or just a general question?

SOUP

Trying to raise Susan on email and Twitter. She said yesterday on Twitter she would be here around 8ish?

4-Real

A worry.

SOUP

Who said that we are gonna lose to FSU and ND? Ohio was that U?

Ohio_Cane

4-real, I wouldn't worry too much about Golden and Co.'s recruiting. This last class should've silenced how they do things.

SOUP, no comment. ;-)

SOUP

Ohio...U better be careful, U are going to have Da Skreetz come after U!

4-Real

Gotta give Sir Duke & Deon Bush recruiting props 2 Ohio . Delete when ready C.E.O. :)

Susan Miller Degnan

Hello? Anybody home?

herbieibis

Yeah Susan, The Herb of Ibis!

---------------------------------------------

Believe me, that is the last 2 teams I would EVER want to see the Canes lose to. Heck, I'll take those being their only 2 wins. Well, maybe not. It's a catch 22 and I'm going to inact my right to plead the 5th.

It's only a guess obviously. Like my Tracy Howard as the starter that wasn't too popular.

SOUP

Susan...good to see U! There are some questions listed above.

UPDATE: Just talked to her via PHONE she will begin answering questions now...

SOUP

Manny is covering the Marlins tonight who are up 2-0 over the Cubs at Marlins Park. Marlins 2B Donnie Murphy just hit a 2 run HR off of the "art" in Left-Center.

Canes are up 3-2 over the Mad Hatters (LOVE that name) of Stetson.

4-Real

Hello Susan! Which true frosh other than Tracy Howard will make the biggest impact in 2012 in your opinion?

Susan Miller Degnan

Plain and simple Susan who is the better QB
Morris or Williams?

Hi guys! I feel a little squeamish about answering the "plain and simple'' question. I am a bit more of an old school reporter, and since I am supposed to cover the team as the beat writer and not a columnist, I am supposed to be objective.

So, I can tell you that from what I saw, I was impressed with Ryan Williams' calmness and poise and ability to deliver the ball with nice touch in many situations. He seemed to have a good presence on the field, and yes, as Golden said, has great timing on his throws.

I do believe, from what I've seen, that Stephen Morris has a stronger arm, and should know the offense even better right now. He is more mobile than Williams, and has more experience against better competition.

I would say that if Stephen Morris is OK physically, he should have the advantage going into fall camp. And yes, I understand that just because someone has a strong arm, doesn't mean he'll be a super quarterback.

In closing, I was encouraged by Ryan Williams, but still think Morris will be the guy until proven otherwise. The two-man competition will be crucial at fall camp.

The interception problem is one that must be finally avoided this season.

orange 'n green in the vein

Susan, what's the men's basketball team outlook for senior returnees? I really liked the veteran bench mind Jim provided his first year on the sidelines and think if he can convince his front-court to return for another year he can do some damage in the ACC.

SOUP

Let's Take 4-Real's question and make it a multiple choice for Susan and the Canespacers:

A) Tyriq McCord
B) Raphael Kirby
C) Jelani Hamilton
D) Deon Bush
E) Duke Johnson
F) Malcolm Lewis
G) Danny Dillard
H) Jontavious Carter

Ohio_Cane

Susan - Aside from the more talked about players (Rashawn Scott, Dorsett, etc) who do U think will be the biggest difference maker this year.

U dont have to pick someone who's here already

Susan Miller Degnan

4-Real, nice question!

Calling Duke Johnson!!!

From what I saw this spring, he better be the real deal.

The reason I'm picking Duke is that UM desperately needs a strong running back to replace Lamar Miller.

The thing is, Deon Bush is great and Raphael Kirby is so impressive and so are most of the other guys you listed.

Let's hope they all make a huge difference.

SOUP

Canes beat Stetson 3-2.

Now on to FSU where I am waiting!

FINAL

Susan Miller Degnan

Ohio Cane,

I thought Dwayne Hoilett (defensive end) had a nice spring, and defensive tackle Curtis Porter has a ton of talent. And how about Garrett Kidd?? Have to give the walk-on some props.

Denzel Perryman is a beast! And I love Rashawn Scott's attitude.

SOUP

I pick...wait for it...hold it...wait for it, OK here it is:

RB Danny Dillard

I am going to say it here FIRST: He has the potential to be Willis McGahee like. I know that "potential" is an over-used word but in this case I feel confident that it will come to full fruition.

Susan Miller Degnan

I interrupt this blog to announce that The Canes have won a baseball game. Every win is nerve-racking.

Susan Miller Degnan

Do you see improvement from last year and do you think an 8-4 season is realistic?

OK, Tom, don't shoot me. I know. I know. I'm the mainstream media! But I think 8-4 would be a good year. I'm not convinced it will happen. And by the way, I am an optimist!! There's just been so much inconsistency from this team the past few years, that, like Donnie Soldinger used to always say, "Show me!''

Montreal-Cane

Yes Susan Garett Kidd may see some playing time in 2012. The kid is a worker.

SOUP

Susan...did U hear that your favorite player Canes catcher Peter O'Brien is out for FSU with a fractured bone in his wrist?

Also this just in: UM Coach Jim Morris and FSU Coach Mike Martin love each other.

NOT!

Montreal-Cane

Susan do you think big Reggie will come back for his senior season?

Do you think Ladarius Gunter has the talent to be an elite player?

SOUP

Susan...when I talked about the "mainstream media" in this article I was referring to Brian "The Beast" London and Brandon Odoi from CanesInsider. Those guys RIPPED UM football apart after the Spring Game.

IMHO it was UNCALLED for!

Ohio_Cane

Susan, do U think I'm crazy for predicting Tracy Howard as a starter at Corner for game 1 vs BC?

Montreal-Cane

Who will be the Canes best full back in 2012?

Susan Miller Degnan

Do we have any injured players who won't be able to start fall camp? Anyone out for the 2012 season because of surgery?

Well, Al Golden said Jon Feliciano would be back for fall, as well as Allen Hurns and Jermaine Johnson (what's wrong with him anyway, anybody know?) and any other guys I'm not thinking of now. But I'm wondering about Ramon Buchanan. When we talked to him a couple weeks ago he didn't seem like he was that close to returning. That's not good.

Susan Miller Degnan

Montreal-Cane - fullback? They were all injured in the spring!

What I'd be concerned about is tight end. I keep thinking Clive Walford is a talent, but he has choked in some crucial situations.

I also think Asante Cleveland could be the guy.

UM needs a big body that can do some damage blocking and help out in the middle. Maybe Jimmy Graham can return.

4-Real

I called Danny Dillard also Soup! Lockhart is my wr pick.

Montreal-Cane

Do you expect the Canes to get 2 or 3 new players before august (transfers or junior college...)How many players left the program since february?

Susan Miller Degnan

Susan...did U hear that your the Canes catcher Peter O'Brien is out for FSU with a fractured bone in his wrist?

Also this just in: UM Coach Jim Morris and FSU Coach Mike Martin love each other.

NOT!

That stinks about Peter. It changes the whole complexion of that series.

And yes, Jim and Mike are best buddies. That's why it's always fun to watch this series. There's always some kind of chaos or altercation or whatever... I think Mike Martin got tossed out of one game last year. I guess it's Jim's turn.

Montreal-Cane

The Pens are just playing like the Pens tonight.

RCCF

Alabama came frm the dust to powerhouse as did LSU and numerous other schools tht took backseats while the state of Florida ruled college football again I ask if we the fans dont drink the 12-0 Kool-Aid thn why wud the players? Thanks everyone! Have to get going. Talk to you soon. Thanks for chatting. :) P.S. Reggie Johnson, I think, is returning for his senior year.

Montreal-Cane

Thanks Susan!

4-Real

Susan, I know the ink on the 2012 commitment letters have yet 2 dry but do you have any idea on how many schollys UM has 2 offer 4 the 2013 class?

CANELAW: 12% 4 LIFE!!!

SOUP

RCCF...Da Skreetz told me today that the parents of two FUTURE Cane commits read the blog, but mainly the cover story and NOT the comments. He warned them that WE can get critical about any and every thing.

Montreal-Cane

The Pens 10 Flyers 3 in the 3rd.

SOUP

Just got off the phone with Susan. She is just a GREAT person BTW! Friendly, fun to talk to and really sharp.

On a personal note her elderly Mom is in a bad health state after a recent fall and she has been busy dealing with that so her time here has been limited.

We are thankful for her participation on Canespace and wish her and her family health, happiness and God's blessings in the coming years.

Apparently NOT.

But he is expected to be back at FULL strength for Fall so we will see what we see when we see it. He was Golden's MOST improved player before the latest injury.

i'm not buying A.Smith starting ahead of VT,he's to good.Return to form from 2 years ago he's 1 rounder
