WHY DOESN'T IT SURPRISE ME THAT 77 IS A LEMON. Every 5 star player we've gotten the last 6 to 8 years has been one.

HurricaneMan'

So soccer fans who wins Real vs Barca this Saturday??

Heat on a 5 game winning streak.
Marlins on a 4 game winning streak.
Hurricanes football team is undefeated in spring....

Oh yea and expect my boys Bayern Munich too stun Real Madrid next Wed.

orange 'n green in the vein

Uh, not sure how a guy who's a Freshman All-American, then gets injured and still logs significant minutes as a sophomore as a lineman is considered a lemon going into his third year? If anything, this should be the first year he's seeing the field at all regardless of injury history so I'd say he's on his way to panning out OK all things considered.

HurricaneMan'

Ohio I understand, the best way to get a feel for a kid is to watch a full game film. There are a few sites that have that available, but most of them are pay sites for coaches and such.

D'Mauri has all the essential tools, but like most athletes U never know what they can or will do until you put them into the fire and test them.

Apparently the kid has been busting his a$$, but I don't want to sound like a downer but every kid says that this time of year. Then we hear about a half dozen freshmen that came into camp out of shape.

The only reason I'm big on Deon Bush, is because not only does he have all the tools but he has been working out with the UM team on his own time and at his own risk and I'm just surprised more kids form South Florida don't take advantage of that opportunity.

Plus the kid can already do as many bench reps at 225 as Spence did at the combine (albeit his shoulder was apparently hurting) and he is an 18 year old DB.

3G Cane

Too early to consider Trel a lemon, we can re-evaluate after 2012.

HurricaneMan'

Seantrel isn't a lemon, but he still needs to continue to put in more work. The coaches know that and hopefully Al and Kehoe know how to pull it out of him.

The fact is, he is mentally or physically strong enough as a Junior lineman especially at his stature.

HurricaneMan'

*The fact is, he is (not) mentally or physically strong enough as a Junior lineman especially at his stature.

3G Cane

Its already been established that Trel is behind in the strength dept due to his injury, once he remedies that he should be back to mauling.

3G Cane

Say/think what you want about The Decision but if LBJ ever pulled the weak ish that weasel Howard has pulled this season he would of been lambasted to the Nth degree (as if he wasnt anyway). Now, the degree to which LBJ is criticized and Howard the Coward isnt, might have to do with the fact that he's the best player on the planet while the latter is just a glorified Ben Wallace w/some scoring ability.

Texascane

Hurricane...should be interesting to see the two best players in the world play against each other...not to mention the richest- Real paid $100,000,000 for Rinaldo and Messi has a 330,000,000 dollar buyout clause with Barcelona (yes, those are millions).

UMike

3G..I'm with you..Howard is only considered the best center in the game because this is an era with no true centers. If he played in the 90's with Hakeem, Ewing, D. Robinson, young Shaq Muntombo,(however you spell it) etc etc he would be the 5th or 6th best center..if that lol

HurricaneMan'

Yea, the way Lebron got ostracized for his right to sign with a new team in free agency and how Howard didn't get blasted the same way for basically torpedoing his whole team's season is a SHAM...

But ESPN has always been a a SHAM there worse than FOX news (well maybe not that bad but close)

HurricaneMan'

I love watching Rinaldo and Messi go at it, its like a Bulls vs Heat playoff game... It gets pretty chippy mate'...

Rinaldo (53 goals) vs Messi (63 goals??record) you can't beat that but the supporting cast is what will be key on both sides. Real should be more aggresive offensively, though there coach is defensive minded. I think they play better against Barcelona when they attack.

Also should be interesting to see who gets the 4th place spot in the Barclays Premier League.... Since the title is sewn up.

HurricaneMan'

And it's a shame that the CONCAFA champions league final will be two Mexican teams. The MLS got embarrassed.

The to be fair, 3 of the best American players Donovan, Dempsey, Howard were all playing for European teams at the time.

FYI I love what Dempsey is doing this year by having the best season for an American in the Premier league, but lets get him on a better team. Where he has a shot to shine on some huge stages next year. Especially since USA won't even be in the Olympics for the summer. Fulham though solid will not be a viable competitor int he Premier League next year.

UMike I disagree Howard is the real deal at the Center Position

The pace the game is played at today is slower then the 80's and 90's this effects All manner of stats in a negative way for Howard. Howard has 41 20/20 games in his Career far more then all on your list and 3rd since the NBA/ABA Merger Moses Malone 109
Hakeem Olajuwon 42
Dwight Howard 41
Charles Barkley 41

Of Course Malone was a HOF and benefited playing in the era of faster pace.

Dwight is the only 3 time DPOY and should get another one this year. Dwight is the ONLY guy in NBA HISTORY to lead the league in BLOCK & REBOUNDS and he did it 2 years in a row.

Dwight is stronger then every guy on your list. Dwight is more athletic then all of them as well, Young Ewing and Olajuwon and Robinson were good athletes but Howard was recently tested by ESPN sports science as having touched the highest ever certified at 12'6 with a 39.5 inch vertical. ALl of the guys you mentioned are better offensive players then Dwight, however all of them got better with age, Olajuwon was much like Dwight early in his career just a defensive guy who scored using his athletic abilty around the basket. Dwight is not as bad offensively as we think. He is the #1 option on the team and the only post presence, has no other scorer to really take away defensive pressure.

Dwight in VS. Ewing in his Prime

Dwight is stronger, he would bull him similar to Shaq. His D would make the Difference in this one. Ewing was a good one and this would not be a landslide but Dwight is an ALL TIMER in D and that can not be ignored.

Dwight 10 Ewing 7.5

Dwight VS. Mutumbo in his Prime

On Offense Dwight has always struggled against taller players like Shaq and Ming. However those game were several years ago and dwight is far from a finished product. He has developed a couple nice pivot moves and shoots hooks with either hand. he can now step out to 12 feet and bank it as well. Dwight wins this battle because although both are not too good at O Dwight is better and although both is all world in D Dwight is slightly better there too.

Dwight 10 Mutumbo 7

Dwight VS. Robinson in his prime

Robinson was long and a good defender but like many of these guys he struggled against powerful men like Shaq, Malone, Olajuwon. Dwight would be a a force down low and get his share, on teh other end Robinson was an NBA leading scorer and was as agile as Dwight is, this one would be really close, I think Dwight Wins because Olajuwon beat Robinson many times and Dwight has a lot of the same game and D in him.

Dwight 10 Robinson 9

Dwight VS Shaq in his Prime

Shaq was a lot of the things Dwight is in his youth only bigger. Shaq however was never the rebounder Dwight is and rarely hustled on D. When motivated though this would be a battle of titans. An immovable object going against an irresistable force. Dwight Could slow down Shaq who led the NBA in scoring in his youth enough to make this one interesting however a motivated Shaq and his length could force Dwights limited O down low into misses.

Shaq 10 Dwight 8.5

Dwight VS. Olajuwon in his prime

These two remind me of each other more then any of the others. O was listed at 7 feet but was closer to 6'10 and was a strong 250. He was very agile and a great leaper in his prime. O was in his prime was the best defender in the league and a feared rebounder. Dwight would have struggled to score well on him and although he is fully capable of slowing down O he would not shut him down enough to make up for his lack of offense.

Dwight 8 Olajuwon 10

Verdict Dwight would be the 3rd best behind these guys which is not bad considering you have about 7 Defensive POY's 5 rebounding titles 8 NBA titles 2 scoring titles and all going in the HOF between these guys excluding Dwight. BTW Howard is not done yet.

3GCane,
Well if he don't hurry up and catch up, his eligibility will have run out! Dudes 6'9 and a mountain of a man but, it's all about what have you done for me lately, same goes for under achieving, Ray Ray, this is it for him.

HurricaneMan'

Also I think people misunderstood Miami Norland's comments when he said, Duke won't carry the ball 30 times a game and meaning that he won't contribute immediately.

He will get touches I expect 5-10 per game depending on the defensive matchup.

But anybody expecting him to carry the ball 30 times would be silly.

They should just convert him into a TE then. I sure he would make a hell of a TE.

HurricaneMan'

Hassan, Ewing would have dominated Howard and it isn't even close.

Shaq/Olajuwon in their prime, it isn't even close. Both would have manhandled Dwight.

I can bare both of your comparison's to Robinson and Mutumbo.

You say other's benifited from a faster paced league, but Dwight's rebound numbers are inflated by the fact that he plays in a perimeter oriented league, with no true centers and more power players playing outside ala Nowitski or even Bosh for that matter. Howard sits in the paint ALL DAY, he literally has no other job than to jump up for a rebound (which he is a freak athletically and phsyically) and then deter defenders.

FYI Dwight is no the defensive player of the year. Lebron James should be and it is not even close. He is the only person that can and has legitimately guarded every position on the court. If and when the Heat need him to, he can essentially guard any position and even guarded Howard in moments against Orlando. And only does Lebron do all of this defensively but he shoulders a much larger offensive load than Dwight has to even consider, making the effort he puts forth on the defensive end every night ridiculously unprecedented in recent years.

I just saw U on espn3 soup. : )

Montreal-Cane

Jim Morris you have been great but it's time to retire. The Canes cannot even compete with the Gators and the Noles. Since 2008 you have gone nowhere and you became an average recruiter. Time to get a young and hungry coach to bring back Canes baseball to where it belongs.

Montreal-Cane

SOUP i really hope you changed your plans and didn't go to this massacre in Tally.

Not sure Trel is a lemon but I do agree The U has become the place where 5-star recruits go to die these past few years.

I'm sure other schools use this against us but I'm not too worried since Golden has righted the ship and recruits can see that. Player development matters and that's AG's specialty (along with being the face/CEO of the program).

I wouldn't say recruiting stars don't matter but they definitely matter less with a guy like Golden at the rein of your program as he has proven on more than one occasion.

GO CANES!!!

Montreal-Cane

In the 8th FSU 11 Canes 1

SOUP just finished his 2nd bottle of Captain Morgan in Tally and is sleeping at Dick Howser stadium.

Ohio_Cane

LMAO, Monty!!

I left the stadium already and I am drinking Vodka tonight.

Wake me when this nightmare is ova...

I was there and that Tomahak chop is definitely gonna leave a mark.

SOUP

Left in the 8th, back at the hotel, still wearing The U. Went to ABC liquors on the way back to the hotel (vodka) and the cashier there was a Canes fan and even threw up The U.

Only time I smiled tonight.

Everwhere U go U can find The U!

SOUP

Nobody wants to read a blog about the game tonight so it can wait until tomorrow PM.

The game tomorrow in Tally has been moved up from 6 PM to 12 Noon due to some NASTY weather coming here tomorrow PM.

That weather will work its way South to Central FL tomorrow night.

Be safe Canespacers!

UMike

I would like to nominate Herb Waters as the newest Cane "Twidiot" lol

Montreal-Cane

CGNC Fleury was outstanding tonight. I don't know what happened to the Pens in the last 15 minutes of the game but a win is a win.

CGNC

For Ohio, Canesteeler and Montreal

Montreal-Cane

SOUP i am glad you are safe. This game and the series against the Turds won't help recruiting. I think Morris is on another planet right now with the young wife and the baby.

CGNC

Monte- yes he was. They had a hard time keeping it out of their zone at the end, but credit the Flyers, they gave it everything they had.

CGNC

Holy smokes - what is Morris doing with a young wife and baby?

Ohio_Cane

Fleury was amazing. So was Staal. Pens bunkered down too soon, but I get it. Gives em some confidence and made Flyers earn every shot. Scared me but I was ok w it

Pens win 3-2!!

CGNC

Ohio, did you check out the pic?

Ohio_Cane

CGNC, YES!! I love that and saved it!

The Dude

Is J. Hamilton a future DT?

Montreal-Cane

CGNC just the pic should scare Briere and Giroux.

Hope the Pens win the next one. I can only imagine how good game 7 will be.

The Dude

Basketball: worst officiated sport in all the world... cant stand it... star players get the calls... I can never determine what is or isnt a foul... a ref does jail time for fixing games... Im always like "WHAT! That was a foul?" or "Wheres the foul on that?" Drives me nuts.

Dwight Howard: judge players for their era, for the things they have control over. Dwight one of the best big men in the league. Bynum is making his case right now.

MAYBE? Will start at DE but with his size and frame MAY move to DT.

UMike you should write to the President and the coaches at UM like i just did...You should read what Hagens just wrote on twitter...Not very smart.

The Dude

My thought on Hamilton is he can play DE in a 3-4, but I dont think he has that step to play DE in a 4-3. I see him as a William Joseph type.
