CEO, just to add one small point to the article. Call it a small rebuttal, call it me playing Devil's Advocate for this article if U will. By no means am I a baseball expert, but really I'm just pointing out something on the subject.

Although true that no other sport rests their starters for Conference Chamionships, no other sport is like baseball, and no other position is like pitching. No other position at any sport requires U to rest for 2-3 games after playing a full game. I don't know the exact rules, but isn't there one in college similar to little league where the amount of pitches thrown determines how long U sit?

I agree that the Conf Championship should be important, but should it be more important than the elimination possibility in the World Series? Especially early in the tourney they've been eluded by for some time?

Again, I'm not agreeing with the current practice, I'm simply pointing out its not as simple as comparing it to football or basketball.

Ohio_Cane

21 wins in May for the Marlins. Impressive.

Be strong and be well my friend.

UMike

I got to admit, I dont like the whole "give me an offer or I wont come to camp" stuff from Michael Deeb (if in fact true), but when looking at his Twitter it is obvious the kid has his head on straight and is a hard worker. He talkes about football/practice/being thankful for offers/grinding etc more in a day than some current canes have since they signed lol

Papa Cane - Recruiting Update: 5-Star Matthew Thomas, 6'4'' and 210 lbs, lists Miami, Alabama, UGA, FSU and UL in his Top 5. I predict Miami - 80%.

Hopefully we get a couple of players from BTW..Kirkland also

CEO

Ohio...good arguments that I took into account when I wrote the piece.

Erickson, Miami's #1 pitcher pitched on Wednesday. Are U telling me he couldn't have pitched 3-5 innings on Sunday?

And he would have 5 days off until Friday against Stonybrook.

LB

Louisville is in Thomas's top 5? Curious...

:)

Ohio_Cane

CEO,

If U go by (just for example) an MLB rotation, yes, he couldn't have pitched on Sunday. I haven't researched studies or anything, but I know that pitching too close together is generally thought of as an injury risk.

Granted, it's a little different in the Majors, but the reasoning remains the same. MLB rosters have a 5 man starting rotation, meaning the "starter" wouldn't pitch more than once every 5 games, a minimum of 5 days. 1 game per day.

Like I said, I don't disagree that it would've been nice to get that win, and if I were coach, Erickson would've been on the mound.

That said, I get it. They have their eyes on the BIG prize. The CWS.

CEO

Ohio...U are simply stating the obvious and yes we agree on most if not all of that.

But take it beyond baseball and compare it to football and basketball and the COMPLETELY different emphasis and approach to winning a conference title.

Football and basketball would give their left arm, right eye and both legs to win an ACC title. Baseball? Well not so much!

That was the MAIN point of the IMHO article.

UMike

All I know is when I play catch with my kids my arm gets tired about a few mins..idk how these guys throw as hard as they can 100 times lol

CGNC:

Mil gracias for the Canes hockey links!!

I honestly would never have thought it. Great for them and I wish them continued success and growth.

OGV - That game last night was a great game one. Not that I made any prediction, so the score not withstanding, it played out just like I thought it would.

NJ kept the odd man rushes and breakaways to a bare minimum...until the very end when the last guy you want all alone closes the deal. Still, a ton of great all around play and I think it will only get better.

It's one game and I envision a full seven. There is a lot of grit on both sides, including behind the benches. It's going to be some great hockey. You gotta love it!! And from the 8th and 6th seeds!

CEO

UMike...c'mon man, buck up! LOL

I'm checking on Thomas and Kirkland with the source. Waiting for a reply.

CEO

I just had a thought. I know this is highly unlikely but what IF a football team in the ACC went 6-6 and was unranked but ALL of their wins were against ACC teams and they advanced to the conference title game and won.

Could a 7-6 team that was unranked or ranked 23 or 25 go to the BCS bowl game as an automatic qualifier?

Ohio_Cane

On the basketball note, did anyone else notice Pierce walking away from the game in the tunnel before anyone else?

He pulled a Randy Moss and I hate that kind of crap

Its almost similar to the crap LeBron James did when he walked off the court after the Magic beat the Cavs in the playoffs, not shaking anyone's hand

I don't care if there are .0000001 seconds left in the game and there's no chance of you winning - you don't f*****g leave your teammates out on the floor/field/ice to get to the locker room before them

Come on Pierce

Thanks for the check on Thomas, CEO. I know the Louisville in the top 5 may be funny considering, but it's also a little too weird.

Gatorade National HS Player of the Year is going to be announced later today

My bet on who is going to win it ...

Local kid, Lance McCullers Jr. from Jesuit

His dad was a 2nd Round pick and his pitching coach was a 1st Round pick (Geoff Goetz)

He has a season ERA of 0.18

He throws in the 95-99 range with a nice slider and off speed as well

He's a UiF commit - pretty sure he's not going to go there b/c he'll be a Top 15 pick probably

herbieibis

Okay, you play Pete O'Brien, knowing his wrist is probably sore as hell, and you shelve your best pitchers and not try to win the ACC ship, what's that all about? Maybe another 10 days of rest and not playing in the tournament would of prevented him from seeing the doc today. You play your best hitter, who is still hurting but you throw your scrub pitchers and rest your best. You have a week before you even play a regional, why not at least throw one of your better pitchers 4 innnings and let him get some work. I tanked a tournament championship game one time only because the state tournament started 2 days later and that was the only reason and lets face it, it's not like we've set the world on fire with our bats & defense.

The Heat are proving they belong in the finals. Theyve got all the pieces in place. Like last nite being down 10 to 15 most of the game but you see they are like the older brother who is gonna come back at the end. You just know its gonna happen. Thats what we need to get back to with the U.

Everybody pitching in and feeding of the other persons success. We need to build that unity where we are the next man up, the man who steps up when the game is tight and makes the play that turns it in our favor.

Back in the day as a fan in the ob with the winning tradition and knowing what was expected when the team got in the ob we just seem to have a spell on the other team. Because of the chemistry and the hard work along with refusing to get beat by FSU we as fans knew that when we showed up we were gonna see our Canes come out on top. And it was more than just talent and speed it was a mentality that just refused to lay down. Its time to put that older brother spell on our opponents . Its time to win the mental game even before the game starts. CANES

The Dude

CEO,

After reading the article I couldnt help but notice you wrote no solution to the problem. How do you think it should be fixed? Maybe allowing more time for teams to rest before the tourney starts?

Hassan

Deeb is a good kid, Deeb is talented as hell about 25 offers right now, and Deeb loves UM, despite all those facts it is possible to have talented good kids that want to come to UM and they still do not "fit". Deeb's take is that UM came to see 2 of his practices and that should be enough, UM's take is they want him in camp before they offer. Deeb has declined to go to the camp, that is where they "fit" part has come into play. I really think the kid is a good young man, some team will be lucky to have him, it looks like we will not get him unless there is some kind of a change on both parties.

The Dude

Posted by: SlingBlade | May 31, 2012 at 01:04 PM

Just got done with first season... totally unsatisfied with the story. Its just a never ending build up to nothing happening in my opinion.

The Dude

Hassan,

Is Deeb afraid of camp? Why not go? Doesnt everyone go eventually anyways? If you love The U, wouldnt you be dying to go in front of the coaches?

The Dude

SlingBlade,

I wish HBO would do a series on all the things that actually happened from Alfred the great through Henry III. No that is some must see stuff. Nothing beats the real story of the English monarchy. Its so full of twists and turns.

The What

Season 1 of Rome was amazing on par with season 1 of Game of Thrones. Season 2 of Rome was disappointing but it was cause they decided to abruptly end the show due to its big production budget. I'm waiting for Game of Thrones to end to start watching season 2. If TV was a la carte I would get hbo, ESPN, Gol TV, TBS (gotta watch Seinfeld reruns) and local channels and I would be good to go.

Between strong and hurtt Louisville has a good pipeline into Florida. They will be dominating the big east for quite a while unless Boise state can get another good QB.

I hope so. I'm already dreading the creepy commercials they'll roll out if he's good.

herbieibis

Deeb probaly figures he doesn't have to prove anything based on all his offers.
Read earlier, in May where Matt Thomas preferred to go out of state and didn't have Miami in his top 6. It's early and the mind games are starting.
Also read where we were only going to take 2 DB's this year. We are still short numbers at Cb even if we are bringing in 6 dbs.
The solution to the baseball problem is easy; play to flipping win. There is a such thing as momentum going into the regional. Just because every coach does it doesn't mean Morris has too! It's like the dam prevent defense in pros. Stop a team all game long and then start worrying about giving up the big play and they nickel and dime you down the field and score anyway. A bookies worst nightmare or prayer answered.

The What

2 ways the Deeb thing is resolved.

1. Golden refuses to offer him since making one exception can open the flood gates to other players doing the same thing. So golden is kind of forced into not offering him unless he comes to camp. Hence he doesn't come to Miami.

2. The kid changes his mind and goes to a camp. In all honesty that's the reasonable thing to do. The coaches have football questions and you can answer their questions by going to a camp. Do it and let the chips fall where they may. Don't let pride get in the way of a good decision.

Can't wait for the next season of Spartacus!!!!

Old Skool

Brian Banks is a great story. I hope he hooks up with a team.

As for the witch that falsely accused him of rape and received a $750,000 settlement from the school ... a blind date with Rudy Eugene would have been too lenient.

The What

Just read the Brian Banks story. Unbelievable. They should put his accuser in prison for 5 years and force her to wear an ankle bracelet for 5 more. I know that may sound crazy but just as rape can shatter someones life, so too can falsely accusing someone of rape. He lost ten years of his life. She deserves that and five more for the money she stole.

LB

"Could a 7-6 team that was unranked or ranked 23 or 25 go to the BCS bowl game as an automatic qualifier?"

Even though the probability is low, that's a horrible thought.

Also, isn't there some rule that you have to be in the final BCS top 12... or is that just for non-qualifiers?

The Dude

Her and her mom should get the same sentence he got, and the settlement should go to Banks.

I think Deeb feels between the Camps he has been to, Last year's film and Spring practice he Canes had plenty of opportunity to evaluate him and offer him, 25 other schools saw enough to offer him so why can't the U do so with a guy in their own backyard and his dad is a UM alum. I see the kids point very well, and you know I know it is all about the U etc but why can we offer TONS of other kids with way less ability, way less film, camps etc that are not half as good as Deeb. Deeb is a good kid, i am a fan of his and wish we would offer but i give it about a 5% chance we get him now.

That wasn't the worst Devils' playoff game this year (game 5, round 1 in Sunrise, I was there, 3-0 final that turned on a late Marty caught in no man's land puck handling gaffe) but it was the worst from the standpoint of converting wide open net opportunities into scores. Still, that was about as fun of a 2-1 overtime hockey game as you're ever going to see and the two days off (thank you Radiohead fans in New Jersey!) should provide DeBoer more than enough time to fix the problems. I wouldn't be surprised to see Tallinder in the lineup as he was the best defense-man they had when they made the run at the playoff spot from the back of the pack in 2011 and now the first timer finals guys on the roster should have the nerves out of their system so this must win game two should have a better result from a performance standpoint, but the Kings deserved that game one win just by virtue of hanging around, playing tough and converting the few chances they had into just enough to get the duke. The Kings remind me a lot of a better version of the Panthers with a much more reliable starting goaltender.

SlingBlade

Game of Thrones....

i dont know if it is better than Rome, ive never seen it...

the second season is as good as the first...if you have not seen it from the beginning you will not be able to follow it...or it will be really hard to follow...i suggest reading the books...doing so allows you to know what is happening off camera, so to speak...also you can see the differences from the book to movie...

the best season will be season 3...if youve read the books you already know why...i have read all 5 so far and am waiting for the release of book 6 and 7...

i would love to discuss the different plots...but fear that would be a spoiler for most...

The Dude

Looks like 4 star safety Jamal Carter is gonna commit soon. Rivals has him at 80% Cane. So 1 more DB after him, maybe 2 more if VH3 wants to commit later.

Posted by: The Dude | May 31, 2012 at 03:11 PM

There IT is right there.

U really think Golden is gonna get black mailed into an offer? If so U don't know Al Golden! He'd rather have a no name come to camp and BALL OUT than a big name set the terms of the deal.

Bottom line: Deeb is no Duke Johnson, Anthony Chickillo, Kevin Olsen or Tracey Howard. And I mean that in MORE ways thatn one.

NEXT!!!

Ohio_Cane

Deeb is not the kind of kid that Golden wants. Not saying he's a bad kid, cuz I don't know him. Just saying Golden has said numerous times "We want kids who WANT TO BE HURRICANES". Anyone that says "offer me and I'll come to your camp, don't and I won't come" isn't getting an offer. Period. End of story.

Golden will take a no star, 2, 3 whatever over a 4 or 5 star that says "I want to be a Cane, so I'm coming to the camp to EARN AN OFFER, whether U want me there before hand or not"

TheWhat

I love those PBS empires documentaries. The one on the Israelites, the one on Japan, the Medici, the greeks, and the Islamic empire one. All classic documentaries. Highly recommend them.

I do believe Louisville is gonna get busted at some point in time for their recruiting. If your top schools are miami, fsu, uf and Louisville then I simply question Louisville recruiting tactics. Fact is hurtt is dirty and suspicions about strong are out there.

Anyone know how much a P.I costs. We can quickly find out how dirty louisville is.

TheWhat

As for deeb. We have had more drama more turbulence more nonsense the last 2 years than any other program (followed by Ohio state, UNC, Pittsburgh, etc). We don't need it and don't want it any more. If you are causing drama during recruiting then you will cause drama during your time at school.
How many players felt they didn't need to show and prove their talents, felt their high school tape and offers spoke for themselves. How many of those players were throwing snowballs when losing a bowl game, or skipping the weight room or not putting 100% effort.

ENOUGH!

If you can't do something as simple as attend a camp at goldens request then you simply don't belong at miami.
Not saying deeb or any of the players of the last few years were bad kids. But we just want players, winners, hard workers (on and off the field), and kids that trust golden and his plan. Period, end of story.

4-Real

I luv Golden & co. but I need help following "The Process". I have read with my own eyes on tos ( free 30 day subscriptions) that at least a dozen top notch recruits in this year's class & next have serious, SERIOUS interest in the U, but hasn't received so much as a text from Golden & co. What gives? When the 4 & 5 stars come knockin we turn em away, claiming that they have been tainted, can't qualify, got character issues or just flat out don't fit Golden's system! Then when these same kids commit 2 bama, LSU & Fsu and ball out & win titles WE SWEAR BY THE CROSS that these kids were bought!? What gives?? I know u guys got a million answers but all I need is THE RIGHT ANSWER!! HERBIE, can u pleeze help a brother out?? U 2 Ogv.

4-Real...Here is my theory on the issue: Those players you talk about are all either left handed or have small feet. Obviously Golden doesn't like left handed players or those with small feet. Any other questions?

4-Real

On a lighter note, what do u guys think about the " Real Life Zombie Holocaust"?

orange 'n green in the vein

4-Real, first of all, let me roll my eyes at the prospect of talking about which 17 year old is getting enough attention, now that that's out of the way, consider the source of the information, which you paid the price of its actual value to read with your own eyes, by the way. Realize the prospects can say whatever they please about what's going on with their recruitment and by NCAA rule, UM can't comment individually about anything that comes out of their mouths.

Now that you've come to terms with the ramifications of that matter of fact, go back and read the assumptions you're basing your question on (seriously, it says FSU and winning titles in the same sentence! When was the last time the Indian impersonators did that? LSU was the worst and most undeserving "BCS cha[u]mp" under Miles ever.) and realize you're making a bunch of to do about a lot of mostly nothing all because of some hit bait headlines on a site run by tosser high school jock sniffers who have no access to the UM football program but will run your credit card after 30 days if you don't act to cancel your trial.

My advice to you is worry for now about what really is important: Can Al Golden raise his coaching acumen on Saturday to a level that will get this team in contention now instead of four years from now when his college roommate finally has a whole slew of fifth year seniors to field? It's pretty obvious he knows how to get guys to lift weights and achieve impressive physical gains ala your TCU's and VT's of college football, now lets see what he can do to gain a schematic edge week to week, 2013 recruiting shouldn't be on the radar until at least the bowl prep. IMHO of course.

I think of a few reasons why Golden wouldn't take someone:

Academics, drugs, propensity for legal troubles, sociopathic behavior, narcissism, apathy, lethargic play (as mentioned above), known to live for the $100 handshakes, lack of core strength, poor fundamentals, unteachable, bad attitude, personally reckless, toxic locker room presence, the Imelda Marcos factor (see Jordan Jefferson), and most importantly...

...they don't want to be at Miami. That's off the top of my head.

Brevardcane

I remember shortly after finding this blog thinking why would I ever get an account at one of the pay sites. It's easy to see there is better quality of info hear than most other places, especially to someone who is a football novice compared to most on here.

I got to admit...maybe we have just been trained...but its hard for me to NOT look at a highly ranked recruit, especially from the miami area and think we NEED him lol...unfortunately the internet has made it possible for these pay sites to give us information we THINK we could never get ourselves...even they dont evaluate them at all, we have no other source except here and there from insiders who really only know about local recruits...hard not to pay attention to the pay sites

4-Real

I don't think I can say it any better than this,

When Bama, Lsu, Usc & Fsu get these top recruiting classes and Win championships ( Alabama, Lsu, possibly Usc ) don't be hating by assuming they bought their players, followed by a lotta wishful thinkin & praying that these schools may 1 day go on probation.

UMike

4-Real...I get what your saying..but I think Miami is in a unique/tough situation...I do think some recruits are bought one way or another..definitely not all, but I think what hurts us even more is the academic standards and how far we seem to go to avoid character issues. Lets face it, the majority of the time great players arent great academically and since their highly rated feel they dont want/need to go to prep school when they can get into FSU, Bama etc. And with the microscope always on Miami we are far less likely to take a kid with character issues where other schools can fill their rosters with them (see Florida under Meyer)..I think this year is also different in Golden knows we are going to be hit with scholarship reductions and has to be more sure than normal who he extends offers to...of course..all this is jmo

4-Real, there's a significant difference between those schools and Miami the past 7-9 years, pre-Golden. They all developed their players.

We got maybe the recruiting class of the century according to a lot of people after the 2008 MNW class came in. Now what's everyone say about those "Can't miss 4 and 5 star recruits"? Nothing but "good riddance" from what I've read here and everywhere else.

^ Spence obviously not included in that example

I remember shortly after finding this blog thinking why would I ever get an account at one of the pay sites. It's easy to see there is better quality of info hear than most other places, especially to someone who is a football novice compared to most on here.

There IT is right there.

1. When Bama, Lsu, Usc & Fsu get these top recruiting classes and Win championships ( Alabama, Lsu, possibly Usc ) don't be hating by assuming they bought their players.

Did U get dropped on your head when you were a baby? Just kidding, just kidding!

Who is ASSUMING anything? We KNOW it as a FACT.

WR Amari Cooper - Bama (trust me on this one)

CB Patrick Peterson - LSU $60K

RB Reggie Bush - USC $250K

Oh and BTW did the NCAA ever look into the leased car with temp tags that Sammy Watkins was driving around in when he got popped for the weed at Clemson?

I'm jus sayin...

4-Real,
I get what you're saying but if you look at our track record at least the last 8 years, 80% of the 5 star player we've gotten, except, Henderson, Armstrong, Johnson & Howard, the jury is still out on them, have flopped like a fish on a boat deck. Yes most of them got drafted and they had a moment or 2 while they were here of granduer but for the most part, they just went through the motions. It hasn't helped that we've had umpteen position coaching changes, as well as 2 useless former head coaches. Another thing that Golden is trying to change is from us being small, fast & weak, to bigger, stronger and faster. I've been ranting on here for 2 years, that we need to improve our de-line, especially d-tackle. We've had no monsters up front in a New York minute and to me if we get that solidified, everybody behind them will be much better. We tend to wait around until the last minute to go after some bigger name players and we will get a bunch to visit, the last weekend before signing day but this is nothing but a paid Christmas vacation for those kids, they ain't coming here. Fla. St, Lsu, Bama, USC & Tex. always out recruit us as far as the big name players go but that don't always translate to Ships but it does however mean that they will probably win at least 8 to 9 games a year. I know FSU has not had that much success with the win column and Tex flopped last year but at this point I like their chances of having an 8 or 9 win season compared to us this year.I'll have to admit, I'd rather have 10 5 star players than 10 3 star players, any day. Even if a few flop I'm still going to be loaded.

Hassan, whats the deal with the Alexander brothers? They both have offers or what?

Posted by: 4-Real | May 31, 2012 at 08:28 PM
-------------------------------------------

The twins do not both hold offers, the less heralded brother Mackenro I think his name is does not hold an offer, he is very talented and has played a bit out of position, they tried to come to spring game but had issues with their transportation. The other brother has been asked to come camp and earn his offer. I trust the coaches, we are in a talent rich area, there are more kids then we can take and if the coaches want to find the right chemistry that is fine with me, the Eagles last year was supposed to be a dream team and they did not do too well. So I trust the coaches to find the right mix of talent. Da Skreetz is spot on wit that he is saying, and I must say I get guilty of seeing these highlight tapes and drooling over kids nd wanting every talented baller to play for the U, but there is a lot more to the process then just being a talented kid. That is exactly what Coach Golden GETS and the previous staff did not.

UMike

All I know is..when a kid from liberty city all of a sudden wants to go to freakin Alabama...something is fishy lol..I completely understand wanted to get out of a bad area..I get that 100%, but Bama, Auburn??? lol

4-Real

Thanks Herbie.

SKREETZ WALKIN...

1. After readin that list of ballahs boi done put out there its time for boi to answer this f n question. At least 3 of them ballahs want nothin to do with Miami and ballin here, sh$# like that happens in the real world bruh. Now do you want Al and his recruiter spendin minute after minute butt humpin a ballah with 0 chance of bein a Hurricane or usin their time the way it should be, with ballahs that have a legit chance of ballin here?

2. Yah, hes right make those few boiz to sit, listen about this program and still not f n care about comin here. Then will peoples flood messages wantin to know why Al and staff stopped gettin at a boi maybe a commit already? It cant be just everyway fans want it to be.

3. Ill put it out right now that if Al lost a ballah cause he was chasin some m fin hilite 5* that has no chance of slidin, by a mane at a site that aint seen boi ballout I would lose my f n mind. And nah, answer aint by doin both so let this boi get that out there.

4. Miami fans are all in wit Al and staffs decision makin with recruits or theres a f n sh$# smellin school off 75 that would love to welcome more fans. Advice, if you goin to roll that way, yank all but 2 teeth buy a crib on wheels, marry a cousin with less teeth then him and get used to the smell of raw sh$# on a hot summer day. If you commit 100% to that then you can be a faithful UF fan

I'm all for earning offers at a camp but the proof in the pudding is playing in games and starring. I've seen guys look great in batting practice and couldn't hit a beach ball in a game.

Ohio_Cane

Jim Morris - Eric Erickson pitching tonight vs Stony Brook. I fully expect O'Brien to start. Game time 7:00. C U hear! 3

Brandon Washington: "If I knew I was going to be drafted that low, I would’ve stayed in school" http://bit.ly/KRC7SU

UMike

Idk if anyone noticed..but Keith Bryant was upgraded to a 4-star on Rivals

UMike

That means 5 out of our current 6 commits are 4-stars, with Raw Lewis III being the only 3-star

UMike

ATTN: Michael Deeb..read this... "This local DB recruit is being actively recruited by UM and hopes to land an offer after this weekend's Al Golden summer camp. He already lists seven offers, including Florida State, LSU and Wisconsin."
