They say everybody gets their fifteen minutes of fame one way or another. Still, it would seem that some people deserve a little more than the bare minimum. I think all Miami Hurricane fans can agree that former Miami head coach Jimmy Johnson is definitely one of those people.
Former University of Miami head coach Jimmy Johnson, who led the Hurricanes to their second National Championship in 1987, is one of 17 former players or coaches that were selected by the National Football Foundation to be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.
Johnson becomes the third head coach from UM to earn the honor and will now join Jack Harding (1980) and Andy Gustafson (1985) in the exclusive club.
While at Miami (1984-88), Johnson compiled a 52-9 record over five seasons and guided the Hurricanes to a perfect 12-0 record in 1987. That year UM defeated six nationally ranked teams including the top-ranked Oklahoma Sooners in the Orange Bowl for the National Championship.
Johnson’s teams were known for their intimidating style of play and most of all for their totally dominating, relentless and suffocating defense. He built a solid foundation for a Miami team that consistently found success against many of the top teams in the Nation.
In fact, his Hurricanes would go on to beat Oklahoma, Florida State and Notre Dame three times in a row during Johnson's time at Miami.
Prior to arriving in Miami, Johnson spent five seasons as the head coach of Oklahoma State. His overall career collegiate record was 81-34-3.
Johnson was the only one of the many successful UM head coaches who left Miami and found any real measurable success. He left Coral Gables after the 1988 season to replace the iconic and irreplaceable Tom Landry as head coach of the Dallas Cowboys.
His five-year tenure in Dallas resulted in back-to-back Super Bowl wins in 1992 and 1993, making Johnson one of just six NFL head coaches to lead his team to consecutive Super Bowl wins.
Johnson becomes the ninth former Hurricane to be selected into the College Football Hall of Fame. In fact, he coached two of them: DT Russell Maryland (2011) and S Bennie Blades (2006).
The other former 'Canes that are in the CFHOF are: Don Bosseler (1990), Ted Hendricks (1987), Gino Torretta (2009), Arnold Tucker (2008).
No way!

RUNNING WILD IN DA SKREETZ...
1. Your boi bout to drop a dime on those * gazers. Ill use our boi Flowers as an example as how f d up them b!tch azz posers workin on them paysites. I wont name the site that said straight up to a HS coach that if Flowers had been offered by either UF or Bama he would of been put on that 5th *.
2. My boi D'Mauri was a 0 until he gotz that Miami offer which then gave him a 2 only to have the f n motorcycle crasher offer him and he went to a 3. This came straight from his coach that I know pretty f n well.
3. That boi Jelani who stayed at 4 despite a bad wheel and missed 3/4 of his season never moved cause only 1 team pulled his offer.
4. Did boiz also know that Denzel was a high 4 until he commited to Miami and turned down a visit to South C. then fell to a mid 3. Babyface gets blasted to a 3 from a 4 cause he/coaches didnt allow access to boi yet. Yah, thats the way to evaluate playahs lol.
5. Nobody knew bout 0* RaShawn til Al offered him, then WVU and Mich. St offered and came to see boi ball and he then sees 3*. The same f n fool that said he was a good athlete until your boi right here asked if he seen him ball and f boiz answer was, well no, but I was told by a guy that seen him that hes smooth.
6. Here, foolies might love this. They all claimin how they went to at least 3 of that boi Dallas games but when Newt says what # was he wearin they stuttered like little pimp limpers and couldnt answer. Yah, they got that * system on lock.

Thank you skreetz for as always telling it like it is. I've heard lavar Arrington on the local radio call out Tom lemming for lowering his star count simply for refusing to go to UF (Florida). He stated that throughout his senior year in highschool he got pressure from "talent evaluators" from espn and other big name sites to go to specific schools that they favored like the example of Tom lemming above. When he refused they decreased his stars.
If talent evaluators were honest then Boise state would have had a top 5 recruiting class in 2008. TCU would have had a top 10 recruiting class within the last 4 years, Houston top 25 recruiting at some point, Florida state not close enough to sniffing top 15 recruiting rank. When the recruiting sites actually rank a Boise or TCU in the top 10 of recruiting and it actually proves true then I will believe them. Until then I have canespace as my source.

JJ - my favorite coach EVER!
Posted by: CGNC | May 16, 2012 at 09:41 AM
I don't know how many times I can say this, and have it actually sink in to everyone who is a "* chaser"...
Stars are given out by ONLY how many offers a kid gets and how big those schools that offer are. THAT'S IT. NO OTHER REASON.
Example: If Bama, USC, OSU, FSWho, Miami, Floriduh, etc offered a HORRIBLE high school player, he'd be a 5*.
Example 2: If San Diego St, Marshall, Akron, South Central Louisiana St Mud Dogs, etc were the only ones who offered the best player in the nation, he'd be a 3* or lower.
Get it?

CEO, JJ deserves way more than 15 minutes of fame for what he did at UM. He deserves a lifetime and more of recognition, which is exactly what he'll recieve being inducted into the HOF.
Very nice and timely article.

Alright, Floridians, tell me, is Yeungling Lager beer any good? If it gets warm does it taste awful. I'm going on a Disney cruise soon and that's what they recommended I buy ahead of time. My lasting memory of beer in Florida (from 22 years ago) is that most of it tastes awful due to how they stored it when I was there (in the heat, never kept cold until consumed). Of course back then Budweiser, Busch, Miller Lite, etc. were expensive on my budget. :)

I'm no Floridian, but I've been drinking Yuengling for months now, and I love it, warm or cold.

Ohio, the Lager is good? That's what they recommended. My typical choices are Sierra Nevada Seasonals or Pale Ale, Longboard Lager (loving their seasonal brown with toasted coconut though), Anchor Steam, etc. Thanks for the advice!
Posted by: j.w. | May 16, 2012 at 02:19 PM
Yes, the lager. Yuengling light sucks.
I also drink a good pale ale, don't know if they have it down there tho. It's made by Magic Hat, called "#9". Very good.

TX WR J'Mon Moore considering UM:
Missouri City (TX) Elkins High School WR J'Mon Moore is a Missouri commitment.
But he says he's also giving serious consideration to the Hurricanes.
"I have a decent interest level in Miami," he said. "I'm considering Miami for sure. I like a lot about the school, the environment. I first started liking Miami in the 1990s, when they were a really hyped school. My dad was a big fan, so I was raised up watching them a lot when they had Ray Lewis and the whole crazy the U thing. That's what drove me to them more."
Moore lists a Hurricane scholarship offer and says he plans to visit the school at some point this summer or fall.
"Me being recruited by them, it just makes me more interested and I want to learn more about it so I'm planning to visit," Moore said.
Moore currently lists 13 offers and says "I made a commitment to Missouri, but I'm still pretty wide open to everybody."
So what would Miami have to show him to pull even with Missouri?
"Just show me the campus," Moore said. "If I feel Miami is the better fit for me and I can showcase my talent much better at Miami, then Miami would take the lead."
Moore finished his junior season with 30 receptions for 737 yards and eight touchdowns.

Wait, a high school going to be senior is unfamiliar with the definition of commitment in regards to his college athletic scholarship choice? You don't say!

Uh Oh, Greeks withdrew 894 million dollars from their banks (in one day). Looks like things are going to get ugly. Greece's financial problems wont affect us too much, but if Spain, Portugal or Italy go, there are going to be very big financial problems here.
On a lighter note, Jimmy Johnson by far is my favorite college and NFL coach of all time. The man wrote the blue print on how to win on both levels.
