"OGV - I am going to be a Devils fan for this series and out west I have adopted the Kings - LOL

Posted by: CGNC | May 01, 2012 at 04:48 PM"

Quick is the playoff MVP right now and you just know Bettman is getting really eager for that potential New York - Los Angeles final that will set ratings records and make him look like he knows what he's doing for once.

Devils have no fifth leading NHL scorer to work over the depleted Philly blue-line now but they'll put Larrson in and move up a rookie defense-man to wing maybe? If they can steal this one they have a real chance, if not, it's a long climb out of a commanding lead hole.

CGNC

GV, we could've lent you Malkin, oh wait, he didn't score much in Round 1 - LOL! I read that SI article on the Kings and Dustin Brown and apparently (if the article is true) Sean Avery is a galactic tool.

I was surprised in the first Philly-NJ series at the lack of hits. The Pitt series was not that quiet to say the least. Try not to look at Hartnell too much, bad for your eyes ;-D

86 - LOL why are the Owls throwing up the U? that is hilarious

WindyCane-Forecast1

Omar Kelly is a clown. He got his butt handed to him by Michael Irvin the other day he tried to say that the difference between a 2nd rd player and a 6th rd is insignificant he could not be more wrong.

Last year's Round 2, Pick 1 Ras-I Dowling 4year/5.304mil 2.357 signing bonus

***
Last year's #165 overall pick (last pick in 5th round) 4year/2.18million, no bonus.

Everything after that is pretty close as far as I can tell. about 500k a year and no bonus.

So the difference is about 700k a year and difference of up to $2mil plus guaranteed and ZERO. And that doesn't even consider getting more reps and more chances the higher the pick you are.

Strange but true files: Ray Ray is predicted to be a 2013 1st Rounder (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/writers/andrew_perloff/05/01/2013.nfl.mock.draft/1.html)

This is why following Coach Golden's advice by coming back for another year makes economic sense. If Ray Ray performs like I think he is capable of, he will make more money in 2013 than this years' Canes avg. underclassmen draftees will make in 2012, 2013 and 2014. This will send the right message throughout the program. Ray Ray will be Golden's role model for future underclassmen who listen to Coach's advice.

I could tell U but I would have to kill U. LOL

Just curious...have U been getting my emails?

pbcfrcane13

So has anybody figured out why they are throwing up the U...Is that to show respect for Al Golden.

CGNC, I didn't see the article you're mentioning but was there ever any doubt Avery was a tool?

Tonight was huge for the Devils, expect the nastiness to pick up in game three as both sides dig in to try to keep or regain home ice.

SOUP

HS recruit names of interest:

Denver Kirkland
Paul James
Ricky Town
Hayden Rettig
Wesley Bullock
Matthew Thomas

OGV, very big 3rd period and W for the Devils tonight.

CGNC, Avery has always been a tool. He's one of those guys that if he was kicked out of the league, it would be better because of it.

orange 'n green in the vein

O_C, NHL is Avery-less now after he called it a career when he got sent to the minors.

After game one I had this funny feeling in the back of my skull that Philly was fortunate to catch the Devils out of gas after their third overtime game in a row but somehow the fact New Jersey ended up with one more win yet one less point during the season was being unfairly dismissed only due to how the Flyers handled most people's Cup pick in the first round. Now seeing the other 30 goal guy on the Devils step up and finally score, the winner, mind you, with Kovalchuk out while Larsson jumped right in so well for his first playoff game ever, I'm thinking the Flyers are going to have to score four a game just to stay in this for a long series with their defense injuries and their usual lack of vintage Hextall backing them up. Getting Kovalchuk back and productive by game four is going to be a must to pull this off though for New Jersey.

Going to Waffle House at 3:36 in the AM is always a good thing.

That is all.

Great article. Golden's track record demonstrates he can recruit and develop 0-2 stars raw recruits into NFL draft picks. I can only imagine the success he will have with the talent he recruited to Coral Gables.

Even the most hardened cynic (raises hand) can't ignore the evidence which blantantly hits them in the face. Al Golden is doing a good job, and here's why:

1. Staff continuity.

It's a big deal. The Jacory Harrises and Sean Spences went through coordinators-o-plenty until Al got the job. D'Onofrio & Fisch in multiple years can only help.

2. Statistical improvements.

Golden beats in the media about penalties and turnovers. That's pretty obvious, but that's not all. We know that Miami got a 1,000 rusher for the first time since Willis McGahee. The line also plowed its way for 7 TDs for Mike James. However, the biggest improvement was on special teams. Miami was 13th in kickoff return yardage defense, averaging 18.58 yards per return (http://www.ncaa.com/stats/football/fbs/current/team/1058).

3. Toughness.

We've seen the evidence all over the place. From the improvement in strength, to the UTough segments... Golden's Canes are savage in their intensity. It's only a matter of time until that translates into the field.

4. Margin of loss.

Not once was Miami blown out last year. The biggest margin was 8. The average was less than a touchdown (5.5). They never gave up. Why does that matter? See above. Imagine what multiple years in the Golden system can do. Even in the face of opponents with much greater talent (FSU, VT)... Miami came dangerously close to making that 6-6 record much more pleasing.

4. Trimming the hedges. I'll let that float about.

Al Golden is a fine coach, with a great staff. I like him. I like how he conducts himself and how he embraces the media (no Twitter bans here). He holds the team accountable and to high expectations. I like that he seems to have a sense of humor despite all the crap that flowed his way through his first few months. He recruits well, and transcends the mistruths and negativities of the Muschamps of the world.

So Soup, how's that for a change of pace?

Exactly. It's been wonderful too. My point of using the words "kicked out" was that there's a couple other guys just like Avery that need to be banished. Raffi Torres and Steve Ott, just to name a couple.

UMike

Not a Cane..but I hope this kid makes a roster...great read.. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/writers/the_bonus/04/24/jaashawn.jones/index.html?hpt=hp_c2

Adam Schefter - Class story of day: Buccaneers announced today that they signed former Rutgers DT Eric LeGrand, who was paralyzed in 2010.

This is just fantastic, and probably made him so happy.

Ohio_Cane

UMike, that's a fantastic story. I agree, I hope that kid makes a roster.

CGNC

86 - yes I do get the emails

OGV and Ohio - apparently he caused dissent in the Kings locker room and used to bully Dustin Brown because he didn't think his wife was hot enough. Idyat.

LOL well the Pens made the Flyers look better than they actually are IMO, as we did not play good D, they were allowed to use the stretch pass and Fleury was out of it. You can thank us later as that series was a hard hitting, glove dropping one and I am sure the cheesesteak boys are banged up because of it.

4-Real

The bucs just signed a kid who wuz paralyzed couple yrs back & yall giving our under classmen a hard time?

Eric Legrand WILL make the Bucs' roster, according to this article: http://www.nj.com/rutgersfootball/index.ssf/2012/05/eric_legrand_signs_with_buccan.html .

A very nice gesture by Schiano... Contract involves no money but I assume they'll pay for the kid's expenses and grant him benefits?

Maybe this is the kind of inspiration the Bucs need.

GO CANES!!!

Ohio_Cane

That suspension hurts Vilma so bad. Not in the pockets, he's good there. But as player at his age, a whole year out hurts REAL BAD.

Nice gesture by the Bucs and yes our underclassmen deserve the grief they are recieving being someone who was sold on they are the next big thing and star ratings yada yadayada they did nothing but teardown the tradition xset before them....I wish them success but also good ridance they were cancerous frm their entitled attitudes to their poor work ethic dont cry for them cuz as the song says they "Partied LIKE Rockstars" accomplished Nothing but scandal....12% anyway the new regime will be ready n gyi I was and am a Huge Jacory n Shannon supporter jus gotta call a spade a spade....cant wait for tht new shirt I wear my other proudly n love this site..

LB

I once went to a Hank Williams, Jr. concert...

...and I wasn't even on drugs. My best friend from the Bahamas convinced me to go because "I'm sick of playing Playstation." I loathe country music, and somehow I knew that going to a quaint gathering might get us into quite a pickle. Why I listened to him, I still don't know.

Sometimes, free tickets aren't worth it when the crazed Caucasian hillbilly crowd assemble in mass. Needless to say, the old PS2 got a lot more usage after that.

Cheers.

3G Cane

I imagine Vilma will be appealing that suspension but in the interim he has a lot more free time to hang out at the U and coach up some young LB's...

So basically what u r saying along with many other ' canes fans ' Rccf is that Lamar Miller, Tommy Streeter, Brandon Washington , Olivier Vernon & Marcus Fortson are 2 blame 4 all of Miami's problems?

Inside the Heat's and LeBron's clutch play and myths; Fins, UM, Marlins tidbits
WEDNESDAY BUZZ COLUMN

### Even though he missed spring ball after back surgery, UM’s Stephen Morris actually has improved his already strong chances of starting, and not only because Ryan Williams fizzled after a strong start.
When asked his most pleasant surprise this spring beyond receiver Rashawn Scott, offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch said, “Stephen. His growth as a leader, mentally, how quickly he processes it, has been amazing for someone who hasn’t taken snaps. Listening to him, it’s like having a coach back there. It’s awesome.” As Al Golden said, “He’s so much more mature now.” UM wanted him to speak more clearly and authoritatively in the huddle, and he has worked on that by practicing in the mirror.

### All the notable departing UM players will be at NFL rookie camps the next couple weeks except Aldarius Johnson, who wasn't invited to join any NFL team after missing all of last season on suspension. The Dolphins - who will give Jacory Harris a tryout - declined Johnson's overtures the past few days. Johnson has received a "sniff" from the CFL, an associate said.
