After Miami Hurricanes' football coach Al Golden and basketball coach Jim Larranaga both got their nice new camping gear out recently and decided to put it to good use on Greentree Field and at the BankUnited Center, they apparently then decided to loan it to UM baseball coach Jim Morris in July to set up camp at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field in Coral Gables.
Actually to be fair, all Hurricane fans know that it is Morris who by far has the longest tenure at Miami and also the longest camping history at The U. And since the heart of summer is almost here that must mean that the 2012 Jim Morris Baseball Camp is now open for registration.
Three different camps, including day camps for players ages 6-13 and hitting and defensive/pitching camps for players ages 10-20, will offer instruction to youngsters from one of the most successful and experienced coaching staffs in college baseball.
Morris, along with assistant coaches Gino DiMare, J.D. Arteaga and Lou Palmisano, will be hosting the camps in Coral Gables for hundreds of hopeful young baseball players of all ages and skill levels.
Day camps: Will begin in early July, are expected to sell out quickly. These camps stress important fundamentals of throwing, catching, running and team concepts. Campers are divided by age and ability for games, with group instructions and individual attention. There are three different day camps open for registration (July 2-6, July 9-13, July 16-20), and each is priced at only $235.00.
Hitting camp: This camp is intended for players ranging in ages from 10-20, is scheduled for July 23-24 and is priced at only $175.00. The special two-day camp will feature fundamentals, drills and techniques of hitting that are taught to current Miami Hurricane players.
Defensive/pitching camp: This camp will feature techniques, instructional drills, and a defense-only pro-style workout. This two-day camp is also priced for only $175.00 and is set for July 25-26.
All camps run daily from 9 AM to 4 PM with lunch provided.
To sign up for the premier baseball camps for players of all ages and abilities, make checks payable to: Jim Morris Baseball Camp and mail to: UM Baseball Office, 6201 San Amaro Drive, Coral Gables, FL, 33156. For more information, contact (305) 284-4171
Six...I can see U sitting over there and just thinking to yourself, should I or shouldn't I? You are thinking should I post the following comment on the blog:
"Maybe Morris should hold some of these Day, Hitting and Defensive camps for his own players currently on the UM roster. The past four seasons Miami baseball has had poor fundamantals, sloppy fielding, too many errors and a lack of timely hitting with RISP. A little camping out might do them some good."
And maybe, just maybe, most Hurricane fans (including me) would agree that U would be RIGHT! ;-)

Ozzie being Ozzie:
### James is getting plenty of support from other local teams. “I might be rooting for him more than his own family is,” Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen said. “I’m not a Heat fan but I’m rooting for LeBron because that kid takes so much [expletive]. Every time they lose a game, it’s that poor guy’s fault.”
He said some former players who criticize James “are jealous.” Guillen cracked that he would advise James to hold his middle finger up at the championship celebration.

I feel like the luckiest guy in the world this morning. I was day dreaming about the 74 dolphins and the 80s Canes. You know why? Because i saw the old sports gods come out last nite in the NBA championship. Oh man... just watch these guys leave it on the floor. Thats the team spirit that motivates me in my own life.
King James was absolutely a warrior. Its not easy to show what a warrior is all about. Because you got to rise above the game and experience pain in the victory.I saw the 80s Canes and the 74 dolphins come out of the King last nite. If you want to see what winning is all about its happening before your eyes. This is special. Thank you Pat Riley.

Its sad to watch the best player in the NBA get beat up because he makes it look so easy and most everyone would foul out if they called a fair game.

Totally agree!
The refs did NOT call Durant for several (3) fouls that he committed against James simply because they wanted to keep him in the game NBA style. Instead they called them on another player who happened to be involved in the play or just "nearby".

Posted by: myndraize | June 20, 2012 at 09:46 AM
Miamicane, quit exaggerating & Heat hating. There's only been 3 really bad calls in the series. 2 went the Heat's way & the other went OKC's way. Every Heat hater has cried about Lebron fouling Durant at the end of game 2 but Durant should've fouled out a couple minutes before that when he charged Battier. The only thing that ain't fair about the series is how LeBron is chastizing Durants boney azz. Durant needs to bulk up so he can quit relying on jumpers. Then he will get to the line more. Miami's Jim Kelly To Get National Award:
Kelly, who ranks tenth in Miami Hurricanes' history for career passing yardage (5,228) and ninth in total offense (5,352), was a first-round selection by the Buffalo Bills in the 1983 NFL Draft. The 1992 University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame inductee would go on to lead the Buffalo Bills to four straight Super Bowl appearances from 1991-1994. Kelly, whose #12 is the only one retired in Buffalo Bills' history, was enshrined in Canton during his first year of eligibility in 2002.
"Not only did I feel that I had a responsibility to give back to a community that I was fortunate enough to be a part of; but I also knew that I had an incredible opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others," Kelly said. "Although my playing days are over; my platform has greatly expanded and my commitment to community is stronger than ever."
The Jefferson Awards are bestowed in five categories: national recipients, "unsung heroes" at the community level, champion winners (affiliated with companies or organizations), schools, and, for the third time, professional athletes.

Maybe it's just me, but the only thing I don't like about Heat fans right now, is they're celebrating already.
Yes, no team has ever come back from a 3-1 deficit in the Finals. That doesn't mean the Heat can coast now.
Don't think for 1 second the Thunder are gonna turn around and bend over in Game 5. It's gonna take a big effort from all involved to win again.
That said, I still expect the Heat to pull this one out at home on Thursday.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | June 20, 2012 at 10:08 AM
What I like is the Heat seem like a TEAM now..how else can not 1 heat player even score 30 yet beat a team who has a player scoring over 40 and another with 28...Lebron has been a scorer all playoffs, but was more a passer early in this game. I think the bad calls go both ways, if you hate the heat you see every blown call, if you the heat you see every blown call, just for different sides lol

Im not Heat hating... im complaining about James being treated unfairly...I grew up in Miami in the 70s- 2000...
James is getting pounded every time he gets in the paint. Lately if you watch him and wade they more and more are staring down the refs after there is an obvious foul.
Posted by: mi@mic@ne | June 20, 2012 at 10:25 AM
miamicane...I actually think there have been more miss calls on Wade..imo..how was that Ibaka block play not a foul..they said he went straight up, idk, but tons n body contact

I'm with Six about the baseball. It has suked the last 3 or 4 years watching us dog paddle our way to being mediocre for our standards. You get to play 40 games in the State of Florida, which is a great recruiting tool, not to mention a tremendous advantage. Yeah, we lose a few guys to the pros early but what big time team doesn't. Teaching fundamentals, especially fielding should be a prerequist for all Morris's players to attend all 3 sessions of your camp. I'm Glad the Gators got booted out & I hope the same goes for 0 for the world series for FSU. This baseball program is going down the crapper, like slow death. Both Florida & FSU have left us in the dust & this wasn't even a really good FSU team, most of their starters will be back. Florida on the other hand choked. I think Morris has lost his edge and if they don't want to can him this year, then if the same crap happens again next year, then it's adios time. Maybe it's time to get out of our comfort zone and start taking a trip out West again and playing some stiffer non-conference opponents, to help get us ready for the ACC. All I know, it sick of not being able to talk trash, instead have to keep eating this same old shyt sandwich, that's stale as hell!

umike... the two guys who are physically exhausted at the end of these games are James and Wade. Both have nagging injuries. I wonder why?
Posted by: mi@mic@ne | June 20, 2012 at 10:40 AM
Wade is obviously hurting, his lift is not there..another crazy thing..Miami is doing this to a bigger team..Anthony and Turiaf havent played in this series lol

The same can be said about Boston fans, when they went up 3-2 on Miami. I think it's all in the eye of the beholder, as far as premature celebrating by fans goes. But you can't deny that Miami has the mental edge on OKC...

The Heat haven't crumbled in the last quarter, that's basically the difference in this series. OK C just gets so tight and tentative in the last 5 minutes. On the officiating, I'm just not seeing what some of you are re: James getting fouled but getting no calls. I see him getting away with a lot because he is more aggressive than anyone on OKC- and that's not an indictment against James, it's just the way the game has always been called.

I CONCUR!
Unfortunately, there are THREE reasons why coach Morris will NOT be fired, and therefore our baseball team will continue sliding down the path toward mediocrity:
1. LOYALTY - His tenure with the U, and the record of PAST success, means a lot.
2. MONEY - It would be too costly to replace Coach Morris now. The athletic department budget is tight. The baseball program is no exception.
3. APATHY - No one really cares, if he stays or goes!
The apathy problem seems endemic in UM athletics these days. Why isn't there a stronger WILL TO WIN anymore? With regard to mens basketball, baseball and football, it's almost as if "U've been down so long, it looks like up (to the U)."
Posted by: 2002nemo | June 20, 2012 at 12:49 PM
LOL where is Willie Will to bring up the bad reffing?? LOL! There are things that get called and things that don't. In Game 3, Bosh had 4 straight plays blocked at the basket. 1, 2, 3, 4. With more than one OKC dude there. There was no replay on any of these but kind of funny how all of a sudden he is getting "blocked" 4 times straight. Both teams had fouls called and had their chances at the line.
Posted by: CGNC | June 20, 2012 at 12:53 PM
Its nothing more than the way of the NBA. The stars get calls. Larry & Magic got calls, MJ got fouled just about every time he touched the ball, & with Shaq it was ridiculous. At least Shaq was genuinely fouled a lot of the time, however he basically ran over guys every game and never got called for a charge. The stars get calls. Westbrook and Durant get calls now, but they're young and still earning it. Wait till next season, I bet you'll see those two get a lot more calls.
Every game has come down to the last 3 minutes. These teams are pretty much even, but the Heat has the experience and has played better in the last 3 minutes. The Thunder keeps finding a mistake to make at the end. Heat will win their championship this year. Thunder will be back tho.

Pro basketball is like racing rigged. All you need to do is watch the last quarter in basketball and in racing the last 20 laps. Stars are always going to get the calls, especially at home. James Harden looks like he was paid to take a powder. The series is over and I can't wait. Is it me or does ESPN absolutely over-kill every big game that is played, pre-game or post-game?

86 - I was thinking more about if a repeat of the other night was going to happen after the Heat/Thunder game when LeBron took off his sweaty head band .. tossed it to a lady in the crowd ...... and she then put it on her own head
Nasty
I didn't see that happen last night, so that's good
I don't have a dog in the fight, I'm a Magic fan (hurts to admit it). I like the more physical style of play of these Finals - it reminds me of when the NBA was really good/tough ... back in the days of the Detroit Bad Boys, The Knicks and Charles Oakley, watching Reggie Miller and the Pacers, the Celtics with Bird, of course #23 and the Bulls, even the Sonics with the Rain Man Shawn Kemp/The Glove Gary Payton, the Portland Trail Gangstas, 'Nique Wilkins and the Hawks, etc.
You go anywhere near the paint with some of those teams or try and go down the lane, you're getting punished
Seems like the NBA has turned into the And1 Tour to a full degree at times - and that sucks
It seems that LeBron is finally getting that killer instinct that has left him come playoff time in the past. He's finally realizing what it takes, like a light switch has come on
Westbrook is sick though. That kid is arguably the best PG at such a young age - and he even admitted that he doesn't "get it" yet, but once he figures it out, he's going to be scary
No disrespect to DRose, CP3, Deron Williams or Rondo - but Westbrook is catching up reallll fast

DTC - as far as Shaq goes remember that he stunk it up at the free throw line - hence the "hack-a-shaq". Fouling him was a smart move sometimes
