It should come as no surprise to any Miami Hurricane fan that the University of Miami continues to make excellent strides in the NCAA Annual Progress Report (APR) rankings as well as many other well known and highly respected national rankings of colleges in the U.S.
In fact, the steady and consistent academic progress at UM over the past decade has resulted in Miami now being ranked among the top 40 academic institutions in the entire Nation.
In the 2012 edition of theU.S. News & World Report's annual "Best Colleges" issue, released today, the University of Miami has risen to number 38 - up from 47 last year, a nine point rise.
UM remains the highest ranked school in the state of Florida. In an impressive ascent, Miami has moved up 29 slots in the last 10 years, making it one of the fastest rising institutions among national universities in recent times.
"We are absolutely delighted that U.S. News & World Report has moved the University of Miami from 47 to 38. We were a top 50 school last year and we're a top 40 this year," said UM President Donna E. Shalala. "All the credit goes to our incredible faculty, student body, staff, trustees, alumni, parents, and all our supporters over the years.
Shalala continued by stating: "This has truly been a climb to excellence. The road to excellence means investments in our students, in our faculty, in our facilities. But more than anything else, it's a tribute to all of those who believe in the University of Miami, who believe in quality education. This is a success story not just for the University but our entire South Florida community."
UM is the only school currently in the top 50 to move up nine spots in one year and 29 spots in the past 10 years. UM's remarkable ascent in the rankings can be attributed to its marked improvement in key areas such as the six-year graduation rate, freshman retention rate, average SAT score of its incoming freshmen, and percentage of freshmen who were in the top 10% of their high school graduation class.
Here are some of the critical areas that are measured as part of the ranking process:
- The total number of applicants has nearly doubled from 13,080 in 2000 to 25,899 in 2010 and as a result the University has been more selective by only accepting 39% of all applicants.
- The 2010 mean SAT score is at a record 1295, up from 1175 in 2000.
- Sixty-eight percent of 2010 freshmen were in the top 10% of their high school graduating class compared to 45% in 2000.
- The six-year graduation rate in 2010 was at its highest ever at 80%, up from 62% in 2000.
Just in case you were wondering Miami easily scored the highest among all major colleges in the State. Here are the 2012 rankings for major universities in Florida:
- University of Miami: Ranked #38
- University of Florida: Ranked #58
- Florida State University: Ranked #101
- Florida International University: Ranked #164
- University of Central Florida: Ranked #177
- University of South Florida: Ranked #181

Hey! It's an article showing The Don continues to excel at doing her job over her time in the big chair! Now if only the AD would emulate her lead, we'd be going someplace.
My favorite part about Skreetz deniers, they'll take absolute liberties with the definition of news despite the complete lack of it to disprove the man's existence. So let me get this right, he just reports what's already reported elsewhere, thus proving he doesn't exist, but then doesn't, "report," that which is only rumor elsewhere, thus also confirming he doesn't exist. Certifiably indeed, sounds like reasoning skills acquired at a #58 or lower ranked USN institute of learning.

More on Riley's new Heat vision, LeBron, Heat free agency; Fins, Canes, Marlins
SUNDAY BUZZ COLUMN
### UM says that all of its new players have enrolled except highly-regarded receiver Angelo Jean-Louis (who is prep-school bound but plans to come to UM in January) and bruising running back Danny Dillard (status uncertain; he had been waiting on test scores recently). Former Westminster Christian two-sport standout David Thompson, who enrolled at UM in June, will miss several months after shoulder surgery but wasn't going to play in football games this season anyway. He will be fine for baseball season, and Jim Morris needs him.

j.w., I forget the name of the guy who got the offer out of camp last month that Skreetz put his name out as looking like he had earned it based on his performance over the course his time on campus, but Skreets had it called about 12 hours before it hit the news sources that supposedly Swami was pillaging for his, "prank," so there goes that idea.
Then no, "real reporter from a newspaper," would ever come on the blog again because of Swami's horrendous duping of the people who read here, two weeks later, Susan from the Herald, (that's still a newspaper right of local record?) you know, a beat writer, is on here doing just that, guess that's strike two.
Now Swami doesn't substantiate rumors that are, for the most part, irrelevant, at this juncture in the pre-season with sharing private exchanges shared with him in confidence and now that's supposed to be your proof, except Skreetz did comment on rumors, just not anything he wanted front skreetid, so back to the drawing board for the obsessed delusional? On second thought, let's make that a called strike three, go sit down and take off your (tin foil) helmet, nimrod.
Again, it's impossible to prove a negative, so at best, internet Bruce Wayne can at best prove Skreetz IS Swami!!!!!1!!! but can never prove Skreetz does not exist, the fact that whoever is so obsessed with the former instead of the latter is your circumstantial evidence that they have no clue either way and should be laughed at at every turn.

Here is a question. How did human beings live without electricity or air conditioning? I am currently without either and sweating to death. DC area got a storm and lost power to a million people. I don't think I lost power for this long in Miami during a hurricane lol.
I see it was quite eventful the last couple of days at the space. Let's just get the season going.
To all who come on the space to troll. YOU SUCK. I bope you get stuck without electricity or airconditioning during the hottest days of the year.lol.

Prediction Time
Italy 2 Spain 1
Posted by: The What | July 01, 2012 at 01:58 PM
JUST FOR KICKS:
Spain 1, Italy 0
I really don't care who wins and have no idea what will happen except that it will be BORING as hell. I just hope somebidy scores a goal so it doesn't have to go to penalty kicks.
Posted by: Swami for CEO | July 01, 2012 at 02:31 PM
Tee hee, Tee hee...Spain 1, Italy 0
Posted by: Swami for CEO | July 01, 2012 at 03:03 PM
Dillard isn't dead in the water yet, waiting for the test score sounds ominous now but there's still time for him to get in relatively on schedule, or ahead of it slightly, for a freshman, the thing I'd worry about now is him barely getting the minimal score he needs on his test and then having the clearinghouse hold him out while they get the fine tooth comb out on his transcript of courses he took in high school which could mean just one class not being cleared as sufficient could send him off to the prep school limbo detour. James is going to get the sledgehammer RB touches this year anyway Dillard's path pans out so there's no rush at this point.
Posted by: orange 'n green in the vein | July 01, 2012 at 03:45 PM
And it's already over at half time 2-0 Spain.
I really need to stop making predictions.

The Dude is a life long San Diego Padres fan. Grandal NEEDS to be the cornerstone of the rebuiling effort. At Petco it is SO hard to score runs and so everyone tries to steal bases. Its paramount to have a catcher that can throw guys out. Check out his arm on this play! http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=21974191&c_id=mlb
The other part about playing at Petco is you really cant hide any big sluggers in the outfield. Its so spacious that you gotta have guys who can run around. So the power hitting spots for the Padres are 1st base, 3rd base and catcher. Grandal fits EXACTLY what San Diego needs. I hope he develops into a BEAST!!! Here are his 2 homers to watch, 1 from each side of the plate. http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=22740199&c_id=mlb&topic_id=vtp_klondike

TO THE WHAT----My freshman year at the U, we had NO NO NO Air Conditioning at Mahoney Hall and it reached high 90's every day in September (1966) I could never understand paying the big bucks to go to the U and sweating like a pig, with just a fan in the room.

A HA! Joe Pa knew. This:
"The e-mails also would suggest Paterno knew more than he said: On Feb. 26, 2001, CNN reported, Schultz suggests contacting authorities, but the next night, Curley writes to Spanier that after talking with Paterno, he would like to "work with" Sandusky instead."
