The University of Miami men's basketball team will open its 2012-2013 season at the Diamond Head Classic in Honolulu on Saturday, December 22.
The Hurricanes will face off against the University of Hawaii on ESPNU in the opening round of the tournament held at the Stan Sheriff Center.
After their match-up with the Warriors, the Hurricanes will then face Arizona or East Tennessee State in the second round. With a first-round victory, UM's second-round game will be on ESPN2, while a defeat would put Miami on ESPNU. Times for all games will be announced at a later date.
The top half of the bracket features Ole Miss vs. Indiana State and San Diego State vs. San Francisco, with both matches taking place on Dec. 22. The second round of the tournament will be played on Sunday, Dec. 23, and the final round on Tuesday, Dec. 25, with the championship game set for broadcast on ESPN2.
Click here for the complete bracket.
ESPNU will carry eight of the tournament games, including all four first-round games. ESPN2 will air the third-place game and the Championship Game on Tuesday, December 25, along with the one of the semifinals on Sunday, December 23.
ESPN3 will have one game and the entire tournament will be available through WatchESPN, accessible online at WatchESPN.com and through smartphones and tablets via the WatchESPN app to fans who receive their video subscription from an affiliated provider.
Tournament highlights:
• ESPNU will show all four first-round games featuring Ole Miss vs. Indiana State, San Diego State vs. San Francisco, Arizona vs. East Tennessee State and Miami vs. Hawaii.
• San Diego State is ranked No. 16 and Arizona stands at No. 17 in ESPN.com's early men's preseason top 25 poll.
• Six of the eight teams grabbed 2012 postseason berths.
The 2012 Diamond Head Classic, an eight-team men's college basketball tournament, will feature 12 games over the three days. Each team will compete in one game per day, advancing through a bracket-tournament format. The two teams that remain undefeated throughout will face off in a championship match.
The family-friendly tournament and resort destination of Honolulu will host the teams to three days of play, practices and the unique spirit of Aloha from the Hawaiian Islands. Teams will also have the opportunity to attend the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl played during the same week.
Additional information, including travel packages, can be found on the Diamond Head Classic Web site at www.diamondheadclassic.com.
In 2012-13, Coach Jim Larranaga and his staff will begin their second year at the helm in Coral Gables. Having posted a 20-13 record and an appearance in the NIT (second round) in his first campaign, Larranaga was the first Canes coach to open his UM career with 20 wins.
Miami finished the season tied for fourth in the conference, a program-best, and registered Miami's first-ever winning record in the ACC (9-7).
I forwarded everyones thinking that there is no reason to go to Clemson because there is nothing to do there.
He put it in perspective,
maybe great players come to Clemson because its a football town and they are football players.
Kids go to miami so they can dik around at the beach and cruise in to the NFL on former players coat tails
U are telling the truth my man! See above previous post as to why I agree with u! Ask your co-worker how many NC's Clemson has won?.......
crickets.........

Thats what I thought and then ask him hey didnt someone hand up 60 on yall last year?

Now Six, you may have boots on the ground and there may be some very valid points being made here about the former Hurricane linebackers coach's son, but I just don't know how UM's going to get around that new rule the NCAA put in that says tweets in late summer are now binding and unalterable on behalf of a prospective student athlete?

86, sorry, I've been kinda busy the last couple hours. Just catching up since the last time I posted.

Exactly how much boredom does it require for U to troll another teams blog? Serious question.

Damn, one guy's retirement means more difficult and challenging work for me. And to think I thought I always wanted those assignments! Really I do, but didn't expect to get it overnight.

The comment some people never learn was directed at the trolls.
Posted by: 86Cane | July 27, 2012 at 05:12 PM
ahh, now I understand! :)
Montreal- the one part of the olympics that I
ve never cared for are the ceremonies. The closing is something I'm more likely to watch, but never cared for the opening. Show me the events and I'm usually into it.

canerock elliot calm down and read the comment a couple more times...
you aren't supposed to be afraid of Clemson the football team, you are supposed to realize the dude is talking about Clemson, Tuscaloosa Boise and all the other schools kids go only to play football, not get paid to hang out in strip clubs and make SI a billion dollars a year in magazine sales while dedicating a couple hours a day to being Miami Hurricanes
Sorry neither one of you got the guys point, he is dead on.
If you are dylusional enough to think
CJ Spiller,Terry Kinard, Da'Quan Bowers, or Sammy Watkins wouldn't have started on any of our national championship teams well keep rockin your 2001 jersey and jumpin around to your Destiny's Child CDS.

4-Real... Didn't you read the article?

I'd say that's a fairly decent start... give him a little time. (We're not exactly a basketball Mecca after all... ) YET!

Below is a post from another site. No matter what happens, anybody that thinks we should get even USC type punishments is insane. Maybe we get screwed, idk, but poster makes sense abt bucknutz and tar heels misdeeds and they get wrist-slapped
***************************
USC loses 30 scholarships, Penn State 40. Both Ohio State and UNC lose less than 10.
USC's roster is capped at 75, Penn State 65. Ohio State and UNC are around 82.
USC missed out on two bowls, Penn State four. Ohio State and UNC have a one year bowl ban... In spite of coaches playing ineligible players, lying to the NCAA, serving as a runner for an NFL agent, academic fraud dating back to 1999, Booster involvement, and extra benefits received by multiple players at both schools.
Both USC and Penn State received harsh punishments - Which was my only point - but the same can't be said for Ohio State and UNC, considering the breadth of wrongdoing at both schools.

I knew where your friend was coming from, I get your point.
And my point is, that Miami's won 5 NCs despite not being a College town.
And yes, I'll continue to live in 2001, I have NOOOOOO problem with that...AT ALL! 2001 was the standard, Boise,Alabama, and especially Clemson, DON'T COMPARE!
Posted by: CaneRock | July 27, 2012 at 09:00 PM
alright canerock I respect your loyalty.
I've been a Cane fan for 36 years
I choose to root for the current team, "this year's model" if you will.
Everyone feared Attila The Hun and his team too, how many championships have they chalked up lately?
Posted by: solarcane | July 27, 2012 at 09:43 PM
Ahh Solar... It's great to have you back, dude.
