GREENSBORO, N.C. – University of Miami senior punter Dalton Botts was named to the 2012 Preseason All-ACC Football team, the conference announced Wednesday. The Preseason All-ACC team was voted on by media members at the annual ACC Football Kickoff.
The Taft, Calif., native was the lone Hurricane player tabbed to the Preseason All-ACC team. Botts, who served as the Hurricanes’ punter in all 12 games as a junior last season, finished second in the Atlantic Coast Conference with a 42.7 yards-per-punt average in 2011.
He booted a season-long 62-yarder in the season finale against Boston College and had one of his best games against then-No. 17 Ohio State with an average of 47.8 yards on four attempts. He had only three touchbacks in 48 attempts, with 11 kicks inside the 20 and 11 punts of at least 50 yards.
Earlier this month, Botts was named to the watch list for the Ray Guy Award, which honors the nation’s top collegiate punter.
Miami will open fall camp on Fri., Aug. 3, and will open the 2012 season on Sept. 1 with an ACC matchup at Boston College.

I heard something on Cowherd today.
Lane Kiffin & Nick Saban both took over programs under sanctions and infamous for their work ethic. They are also renowned recruiters.

Carter has some nastiness in the return game, too.
Hopefully another speedy recruit will join the fold. My second favorite of the 2013 UM prospects, in fact (Olsen as 1).

I think after seeing what happened to penn state and the tough talk by Emmett everyone got or is getting a little nervous. Had they waited on the PSU punishment I would have felt better cause that would have been the last word on punishments. The fact that we are up next makes me a little nervous cause you can't follow up the PSU punishment and the tough talk with a slap on the wrist. And thats what worries me about the potential punishment.

"...you can't follow up the PSU punishment and the tough talk with a slap on the wrist. And thats what worries me about the potential punishment."
THAT RIGHT THERE is what I'm saying too...
Nice post "What."
Glad to hear we have another commit... Golden is STILL THE MAN!
Wish we knew what these sanctions will be though...

@Mia_Hurricanes: "Funny side note, FSU James Coley called Carter's coach and ask him why would Carter commit to Miami with all the NCAA stuff going on, Coach Green told them they weren't worried about that!"

Somebody has to know something about whats going to happen to us. Everytime Golden talks he says that he believes the worst is behind us....recruits and players talk as they have no worries about it. No way Golden would sit there and say this without having an idea about what we are going to get....I stick with the 2 year bowl ban 5 schollies for 3 years probation for 5 years and maybe having to pay back the bowl money from 2002-2010

Like I just said a little bit ago, better for the sanctions to come out now so they can't recruit against us using the unknown as a scare tactic
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | July 26, 2012 at 04:04 PM
The sanctions haven't seem to bother So. Cal and they still have a year to go on ship reductions. It just boils down to who's doing the recruiting, the school and how much BS they can shoot that's believable. I can think of one school I mentioned yesterday, Clemson that seems to be the best at it right now, well So. Cal too!

Papa Cane on FSWho ppl saying Coley didn't try to scare Carter and his coach:
"Did happen. Several folks witnessed it not just me. Deal with it. "

Myndraize, if the NCAA can prove half of what Shapiro alleged, we'll get what Penn State got less the $60M fine.

Tony...U are WAY off base and being completely unreasonable.

Agree with Soup on this one, Tony- Penn State set the outer limit for punishments. And their crimes/infractions are way worse than what any team who has been investigated has done. My guess continues to be something between Ohio State and USC sanctions. But no 4 year post season bans, as Robinson himself finally admitted, this is a garden-variety investigation.

So last year FSU gets that LB to switch on national signing day, and then one of their guys tries to scare carter into not committing to the U. I have no problems being competitive for recruits and doing your best to get the best players you want. But have some f#%}*ing class when doing it.
F FSU. In the grand scheme of things you are irrelevant. Take your 2 NCs (one of which was a gift), your sucky coach who chokes without fail back to that garbage dump. You will never be The U.
We get documentaries made about us on the world wide leader of sports. To all recruits if you wanna be immortalized you come to the U. If you want another disappointing season go to FSU.
Posted by: The What | July 26, 2012 at 05:32 PM
Our defensive backfield is going to be tight, after adding, Burns & Carter, not lets finish it off with either Hargreaves or Robinson. The lb's would be great if we can flip Thomas's mind, get Kearse back in the fold and pair those 2 up with Grace. We got Bryant, although recent reports have him visiting FSHOO at least 3 times recently, add Bain & Bostwick, scoop to DE's and we would be off the charts with talent.

Does anyone know if Rashard Robinson is a lock for lsu or is there time for the coaches to bring him in?
Posted by: myndraize | July 26, 2012 at 05:59 PM
I'd say there's always time, especially 6 months away from signing day.
I hope I never see another preseason all-ACC team, with nothing but a punter listed! That's pitiful! I know what we lost some talent and it's still pitiful!

It's not over yet
Also no denying that the Crocs D is not bad at all, that's one thing Muschamp knows how to do, esp. with the type of kids the Crocs can get
8th in the nation last year in Total Defense

I have the same feeling. I think he kept it low key with the opportunity to decommit. If golden wants him and fights for him I like our chances.
Posted by: The What | July 26, 2012 at 08:08 PM
JW...I hope you're right. I go back and forth on this. I want to be optimistic and believe the 5 scholie, 2 year bowl ban.
One thing that got me worried was reading about SMU's situation in the 1980s. When the final set of allegations broke, they were very proactive in cooperating with the NCAA. Some in the NCAA were recommending an extension of the existing sanctions, but they were overruled and all the cooperation got SMU was a 1-year shutdown instead of a 2-year ban. I just hope that our cooperation with the NCAA yields real benefits, and not just a tiny reduction in a ridiculous sanction.
That said, no more posting my worries about what could or could not happen. Not productive. I'd prefer to concentrate on each upcoming game and hoping that UM wins them all.
Seeing Miami at 6-6 is like seeing the United States as a second-rate power.
Posted by: TonyCane | July 26, 2012 at 08:14 PM
Herbeibis, don't worry. This should be the last year in Al Golden's tenure that you see an ACC list like that. He just laid the cement foundation for the program this year and part of the frame. Next year the rest of the frame goes up. 2014 is the roof and interior fittings.

Rivals - 10 commits, with avg. star 3.6 - only 4 teams on rivals top 25 have a higher average star rating.
Espn - 10 commits, with avg. 3.7 stars. The 5 ESPN 150 and another in ESPN 300 is among the tops.
Scout, avg. 3.5, rank 21
The quality is there, its just the numbers are small.
