Tomorrow, on August 3, your University of Miami Hurricane football team will run out onto Greentree Field behind the Hecht Athletic Center to begin the annual ritual known as Fall practice.
What happens on the practice field in Coral Gables will eventually lead them to the start of the 2012 college football season on Saturday, September 1 against Boston College in Chestnut Hill, MA.
According to all of the college football media "experts", the young and inexperienced Hurricanes are not really expected to do much this year in the ACC or on the National scene. However, there are around 85 players and about 10 coaches that would beg to differ with that prediction.
This Hurricane team will be led by head coach Al Golden who is headed into his second season at Miami. Golden got some much needed relaxation after a difficult first 12 months at UM by spending some quality time this Summer doing some off-shore fishing with former UM coach Jimmy Johnson.
Golden and his coaches and players undoubtedly have much bigger plans and loftier goals and expectations than most pundits would project for Miami in 2012. To put it simply, Golden and crew hope to land and fillet some bigger fish than many of the National experts have predicted.
Yet even Hurricane fans are torn as to what this 2012 team can and will accomplish. Miami fan predictions are all over the board and range from 12-0 to 5-7 in Golden's second year of rebuilding the team and depth on the roster.
One of the biggest battles this Fall will be at quarterback between UM Senior Stephen Morris and Memphis transfer Ryan Williams. Today UM released video interviews with both players.
First lets see what Morris had to say about the QB battle and the 2012 season:
Here is Williams describing his take on the QB position and the 2012 team:
In the end Miami will only go as far as either Morris or Williams will take them. It is a given that the QB battle will shape the 2012 team and very possibly the future of the Miami Hurricane football team going forward.
