Ray Ray put this in your pipe and smoke it.
I wish you the best.

NCAA compliance expert John Infante said such a move "almost never works."

"Being on the team, practicing, competing, etc. is all a privilege and can be taken away at any time for any reason (or no reason at all)," said Infante, author of the Bylaw Blog. "Courts also have rejected the argument that dismissing him from the team harms him by hurting his draft status. Courts say the money you will make as a professional athlete is too speculative to deserve relief from a court in the form of an injunction or monetary damages."

"Offense: Mike James
Defense: Denzel Perryman
Freshman: Tracy Howard
Coach: SP Teams (Brennan Carroll)?"

CaneRock,

Keep in mind those aren't my picks. The first two, however, are identical to mine.

I love the fact that Mike James is getting fan support. Love it. By far my favorite player on the team, and at least in my top 3 of all time. Kick returner, fullback, tailback, great hands, and an even better human being. Was chosen with Horn last year to speak to the media after the Shapiro story broke. Calm. Doesn't take himself too seriously. A fantastic ambassador. A workhorse (his picture was taken with a sledgehammer). Productive (8 TD's as a backup). I'm a big fan of #5.

My picks stand as such:

Offense: Mike James
Defense: Denzel Perryman
Freshman: Ereck Flowers
Coach: Terry Richardson

Perryman is a given. A tackling machine who will only get better. James is a beast who waited 3 full years. Now he's the man, and there's enough talent behind him (Clements, Johnson, Dillard) to keep him hungry.

My freshman reasoning:

I think Tracy Howard is good and will be excellent, but I think a true freshman in that position was oversold a little. Good, not great. A year will make him VICIOUS. As in Philip Buchanon-esque vicious.

Duke is a game-changing specimen and will be the future. He is also the 3rd string back behind two excellent choices. He will score, probably a lot. But I can't pick him due to that depth.

I hope to be wrong here, but I don't see any receiver stepping up as the go-to guy. I see a lot of really good guys getting a lot of touches. Hence, Lockhart/Waters/Lewis/Carter will probably be at the same level, maybe a little under the Hurns/Dorsett/Scott combo... getting no more than 30 catches this year. Great for the future, bad for picking "the freshman of the year." These guys tie for #4.

Telemaque is the most experienced player on the defense, and he will probably start. Else Deon Bush would be higher on this list. #3.

If the linebacking corps weren't so talented as a whole, I'd pick Kirby in a HEARTBEAT. He's my #2.

Two new starters are on the o-line, and it's pretty thin. I think Ereck Flowers will slide in at tackle (probably right) and steal the job at some point in the season.

Richardson has too much to work with not to produce results. Offense is looked on as the weaker component of the team. Richardson has a ton of weapons who do pretty much everything well. McDonald could also be in this category, but Richardson gets the nod due to experience from James & Clements.

Though I'm pretty much guaranteed to be wrong, it's still in good fun!

Just say no to social media college athletes, trust me, your predecessors still lived it up without it and got all kinds of fringe benefits before these things were invented and you'll probably use the free time derived from shunning them to get better as a player anyway.

Last year, coach Fisch's performance was a HUGE relief to me.

I say that as only a couple of years earlier, he was the OC of a Minnesota Gophers team that was one worst offenses in the nation and many a fan put that blame on Fisch. Seriously, it was big time ugly.

Of course, he didn't many weapons with which to work, but the cupboard wasn't completely bare either.

No matter, so far, it appears that he has learned along the way.

This year will be a challenge for him as he has fewer weapons and a QB with limited experience.

George McDonald also coached at Minnesota and did a solid job both with the WRs as well as with recruiting FL.

The Canes will not reinstate RayRay and shouldn't. Let me preface this and say I was the biggest Randy supporter and apologist out there. But the words impermissible benefits and your college name are not something you ever want to read about in a newspaper. When something happens under your watch, you are responsible.

You may not have done anything personal in that regard but you had oversight responsibility for those who did, and if you trusted Hurrt and Aubrey Hill without performing the necessary oversight, then you are responsible. I mean come on, Randy checked on kids attendance at classes personally but did not know what the recruiters were doing? That was just misplaced priorities on his part.

RayRay had lied once before, according to information I read, about his involvement with this agent. He was warned, just tell the truth. He chose to lie again. I can't imagine any jury feeling sympathetic to any claim he might make against UM.

It is a sad situation for all involved. His 2011 season performance was not good. He got faked out on some major plays during the season, notably against VT, but he was never in the right position throughout most of the games, including FSU and KSU. He can't send a highlight tape of last year to teams and ask them to sign him.

Yet, he has certain physical talent that would entice lesser schools to take a chance on him, and the number of players who play in the NFL from smaller schools seems to grow exponentially each year in the NFL. I hope he drops this nonsense, drops down in competition, excels, and draws NFL interest. I appreciate his selection of UM but it just didn't work out as a mutually beneficial circumstance for both parties.

pre83

Alright, not to wait until the last minute:

Offense: M James - They will need a running game to keep the O on the field and this time good guys finish first.

Defense: A Chickillo - Pressure on the QB will be needed to take the pressure off the young secondary. Plus, he brings it every play.

Freshman: D Bush - Some guys just have "it".

Coach: WR Coach G McDonald - He will need to work some magic as he will have to pull a receiver out of his hat since depth is not at all in his favor. Plus, with a new QB, new weapons will be needed so he has targets to throw to.

BigTimeCane

Has a previous regimes staff and players caused so much havoc to any other team in the history of the NCAA? From crooked assistant coaches (hurtt, hill, stoutland) to towel boys like Allen who assist other teams in recruiting while working for Miami, to players that leave early and leave the team high and dry, or players that get suspended for not telling the NCAA the truth, or talking to agents, or smoking weed, or just not showing up, or throwing snowballs, or simply not putting effort. Enough of all that. This program is moving on with new faces and new attitudes. If you are part of the cancer that golden has been trying to remove for the past 1+ then you need to move on cause the canes surely have.

Everyone rooted for ray ray and wanted him to succeed. Just one year that's all that was left of his college career. Then he could have talked to all the agents he wanted to. After all this program has been through, all golden asked was for 100% effort and a drama free year and he couldn't even do it. I'm sorry to say but everyone has moved on and it's time for him to do the same.

Best of luck, but the cancerous randy Shannon days are over with. Either you are fully on board or the train to a National Title is leaving without you

SJMPARMAN

I never get these LOF right so take it with a grain of salt...

Offense - Duke Johnson

I don't like picking a true freshman but he seems like the most explosive player on the offense.

Defense - Denzel Perryman

I liked everything I saw from his play last year. If anything, they brough him along too slowly last year when he clearly outplayed Gaines.

Freshman - Tracey Howard

By season end, no passes will comes his way. It just won't be worth the risk.

Coach - Mike Barrow.

Only because the heat is on and I think, if the group can stay injury free, it can be the most improved this year.

I have stated on this blog during the 2011 football season and playoofs that I saw Duke play in high school and he is the best HS RB I have seen in years. I also ran into him about 2 months ago, and I noticed that he had gotten a lot bigger. Duke really wants to be the best and he is willing to put in the work. Duke has the heart of a lion and when he runs the ball, he just looks very special, even when running a simple drill.

Duke will be a special Cane!

Uh, Ray, Golden's just not that into you. You can still go to class at UM, he just doesn't want you on the team so enjoy tearing it up in lower division football or taking a redshirt and playing a fifth year in 2013 somewhere else under the big lights if you can find someone who wants to go that route with you.

A tragedy, all around. Just say no to social media college athletes, trust me, your predecessors still lived it up without it and got all kinds of fringe benefits before these things were invented and you'll probably use the free time derived from shunning them to get better as a player anyway.

Article

An attorney representing former Miami safety Ray-Ray Armstrong says he plans to file an injunction this week asking the school to allow Armstrong to practice with the team until the NCAA determines if he has violated any bylaws.

"Miami made a unilateral decision to dismiss Ray-Ray without NCAA process," attorney Matt Morgan of Orlando said. "We believe Miami is using Ray-Ray as a sacrificial lamb to the NCAA."

According to Morgan, Armstrong was dismissed after several incidents. Armstrong attended a dinner with his girlfriend, who works for a sports public relations firm and who paid was called into question. Another time, according to Morgan, Armstrong was at a South Florida hotel with his girlfriend. When questioned, he failed to admit being there before then saying he was, but that she paid for the room.

In at least two instances, Armstrong's use of social media led to questions from the school. According to a source, Armstrong's alleged receipt of a sports jersey at one point was also called into question.

Miami, which declined comment, is being investigated by the NCAA for illegal benefits allegedly accepted by many players over many years from a prominent former booster. The NCAA has interviewed Armstrong on multiple occasions, according to a source.

"Why should Ray-Ray's draft status be affected?" Morgan said. "Why should he have to play at a NAIA or Division II school this year when to my knowledge the NCAA has not concluded he even violated rules?"

In past cases such as one involving former Oklahoma State wide receiver Dez Bryant, being found to have lied or misled the NCAA or a school has been considered a violation of NCAA rules.

In a statement provided by Morgan, Armstrong said: "I have thoroughly enjoyed my time spent with The University of Miami. I hope they reconsider their decision and allow me to play football as a Hurricane this season."

Not sure about true freshmen without doing some research, but I can think of a redshirt freshman who won a NC playing the most important position on the field...on a pro-style offensive team, not being carried by great RB.

herbieibis

If we play well & Bryant's mom comes on a visit, he'll stay, Collins is feeling his oats & I think he just may think the "U" is beneath him. That would be a tough loss for us, so I hope Goldie has a nice back up plan.

Da U N Houston

I am going off of history. Can you find one team in college history who started TWO freshman (or first time guys are on the team) and were sucessful? You will be searching for ever. I don't know the future, but learning from the past it does not look good for our present.

EMAIL FROM UM AT 12:39 POSTED HERE AT 12:48:

For the first time during #CanesCamp, the Miami Hurricanes football team donned full pads Tuesday at GreenTree Practice Fields. Tuesday’s practice featured a live short-yardage, goal line period towards the end of practice.

Second-year head coach Al Golden doesn’t view practicing in full pads any differently than only shoulder pads.

“We don’t want to do it any different than in tops,” Golden said during pre-practice media availability. “(We need to) be sure we protect ball carriers, keep them up, no side shots. Obviously, we need to try to protect our team.

“Lower pads are for protection,” Golden said. “It allows them to do some cutting in a compartmentalized state in their individual period.”

During the first half of practice, redshirt senior LB Ramon Buchanan was flying all over the field on the defensive side of the ball. At the end of practice during the live short-yardage period, Buchanan and Co. were encouraging their defensive teammates, leading the corps in spirited cheers.

As was the case during Monday’s practice, sophomore DL Olsen Pierre knocked down a pair of passes at the line of scrimmage.

Two of the biggest offensive plays came from junior QB Stephen Morris during the short-yardage drills. Freshman WR Robert Lockhart Jr. hauled down a Morris pass in the corner of the end zone, managing to get one foot down before falling out of bounds. Morris’ second nice play came a few minutes later. After being forced out of the pocket, the junior signal-caller showed nice field vision by rolling to his left to find sophomore WR Rashawn Scott in the end zone.

After Morris’ TD pass to Scott, redshirt sophomore QB Ryan Williams threw a dart to freshman WR Herb Waters for a score.

#CanesCamp continues Wednesday with the Hurricanes’ first two-a-days practice of the fall. The morning practice is slated for 8:20 a.m.
