Day six of #CanesCamp and the intensity reached a new level Wednesday as the Miami Hurricanes endured their first two-a-days practice at the Greentree Practice Fields.
The morning session featured full pads and lasted a little more than two hours, while the afternoon session – helmets and no pads – lasted one hour and 45 minutes.
Second-year head coach Al Golden didn’t expect his team’s intensity to fall off between the morning and afternoon sessions for the first two-a-days practice.
“They know the morning is run emphasis, and the afternoon is a lot of third down and pass (skeletons), things of that nature,” Golden said during Wednesday’s pre-practice media availability. “You gotta bring the intensity in the afternoon. So that’ll be really critical for our leadership to make sure that happens.
"There really aren’t two-a-days anymore,” Golden said. “We used to do three weeks of them in a row (when I played). We’ll do only four or five total.”
Redshirt senior LB Ramon Buchanan served as the player/coach during the morning session. However, it was the offense that made noise in full pads. Redshirt sophomore TE Clive Walford had two impressive catches – the first was a spectacular toe-tapping grab along the sideline for a sizeable gain and the second was a 15-yard pass down the sideline from Stephen Morris.
Midway through the morning session and after a nice play by the offense, offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch couldn’t hold back his excitement, yelling “that’s pretty, that’s pretty”.
The big defensive play of the morning came from senior DB Brandon McGee, who made a solid pass break-up with a diving deflection.
Four hours later, Wednesday’s second practice commenced with the Hurricanes donning only helmets, tops and shorts. Redshirt junior DL Shayon Green was the Canes’ player/coach during the afternoon practice.
The defense stepped up in the afternoon, applying pressure on QBs Morris and Ryan Williams. Redshirt sophomore DB Ladarius Gunter provided a pair of pass break-ups and redshirt senior DB Vaughn Telemaque picked off a Morris pass. On the offensive side, redshirt senior WR Kendal Thompkins has a 13-yard TD catch from Morris and freshman RB Duke Johnson added a 15-yard TD run.
#CanesCamp continues Thursday with the Hurricanes’ eighth practice of the fall. Practice is set for 8:20 a.m. at the Greentree Practice Fields.

I'm feeling 8 wins potentially 9. But I'll say this. If we get to 8 wins you have to consider that a very good season. This team is stronger, more physical, more determined, have more heart, work hard, have stability in the coaching staff, 2nd year in the system, overall upgrades in most positions. There may be only 2 downsides that I can think of. Youth and depth. Otherwise this team is young and talented and will set up something special for 2013. I just can't wait for this season to start.

#8 fitting Paul up for that red-shirt he should have taken last year. I've heard of breaking ankles, but ripping ACL's? Nasty.

8-4 Final answer
Sat, Sep 01 Boston College WIN
Sat, Sep 08 Kansas State WIN (KSU won't be a surprise this year).
Sat, Sep 15 Bethune Cookman WIN
Sat, Sep 22 Georgia Tech WIN
Sat, Sep 29 North Carolina State Loss (good team/trap game)
Sat, Oct 06 Notre Dame Win - I just don't think ND is as good as advertised
Sat, Oct 13 North Carolina WIN
Sat, Oct 20 Florida State LOST
Thu, Nov 01 Virginia Tech WIN (defense good offense bad)
Sat, Nov 10 Virginia Loss (after playing FSU and VT this will be a let down game)
Sat, Nov 17 USF WIN
Sat, Nov 24 Duke WIN
Montreal I agree with the final record but the wins losses I disagree with. I got 9 wins with the potential for one more loss.

I am not making any final picks on these games but here are some early thoughts on the schedule.
BC at BC. Always a very tough place to play. But they lost the key defensive guy Butkus Award winner Luke Kuechly, and their offense is not exactly a juggernaut. Still, UM has a really young team. Morris played solidly against a very average Maryland team last year first game on the road but not enough to win the game. I'll give us a 58% chance to win the game.
KSU at KSU. We had them last year at home, and Jacory couldn't vault into the end zone for the win. If we can't beat em at home, how we going to do it on the road. The QB is back, both Brown brothers are back. They has some issues but I like their senior depth. I see us 50% here.
Bethune Cookman - Next. 100%
GT in Atlanta. Normally, I would be real reluctant to do anything more than a 50% chance with freshman on the road with a tricky offense. But BC is the week before so the Canes will have some triple option work on defense. History shows that when a team practices the defense against the triple option, they do well. GT lost Stephen Hill but he was a very consistent reciever who dropped alot of sure touchdowns last year. Tevin Washington is not a good thrower but he is good at the option. He is not as good as his predecessor. I am scared by the immaturity we go up there with but we have the talent edge. I say 54% chance of a win.
NC State at Miami - NC State has a very good QB. They have major issues in the interior of their defense. I give us a 65% chance to win the game at home.
I can see us either 0-5, 1-4, 2-3, 3-2, 4-1 or 5-0. My heart tells me 5-0 of course, but I am leaning toward 3-2 or 4-1. I won't do the 12-0 prediction this year. As these first five games are actually a lead up to the real competition. I'll hold off thought about those games until I see us actually play.

Bryce brown was a 7th rounder with the eagles. Arthur is back and sad to say is a beast
Posted by: Laquinton | August 09, 2012 at 01:16 AM
Wow, thanks for the correction. I assumed he was still there. I can't believe he made the same mistake of coming out early that some many in that 2008 class made. I also can't think of any highlight he had to show the Eagles or anyone else why he felt he was worthy. Weird. Very weird. Looks more like adults wanting to be paid than what was best for him.

Dear coach Golden,
This is the no excuse mentality for Canes players. If this men can qualify for the finals at the Olympics our team can go 12-0. Show them this video clip once in a while and they will all believe that there are no excuses. Just do it!
Let's go Canes!!!
