James is one of only 11 college football players from the Football Bowl Subdivision to be honored with the award, one of the most prestigious community service awards in all of college football. He is the sixth Miami Hurricane to be named to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, joining Robert Bass (1993), Tony Coley (1996), Ryan Clement (1997), Nate Books (1998) and Joaquin Gonzalez (2001).
For 21 years the award has honored the college football players who charitable involvement and community service contributions stand out among the more than 50,000 student-athletes participating in the sport. The student-athletes nominated for this prestigious honor embody the true spirit of “teamwork” and “giving back.” There were 117 nominees for the award this summer and a special voting panel selected 11 members from the FBS and 11 more from the FCS, Divisions II, III and the NAIA.
During his career at the University of Miami, James has contributed countless honors to supporting community service organizations in the Miami community, including volunteering for Empowered Youth, an organization providing mentoring to at-risk youth, serving as a project manager for the 2012 University of Miami Bone Marrow Drive and serving meals to the homeless with the Miami Rescue Mission. James has also been involved with The Ronald McDonald House, Rushing the Community and Canes on Patrol.
In order to meet the criteria set forth by Allstate and the AFCA, each player must be actively involved and committed to working with a charitable organization, service group or community service while maintaining a strong academic standing.
James, who is on pace to graduate in December with a degree in sport administration with a minor in sociology, will be invited to join fellow 2012 Allstate AFCA Good Work Team members in New Orleans to participate in a community project before the Allstate Sugar Bowl in January. The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team will also be honored during halftime of the Allstate Sugar Bowl on ESPN.

For me its more the atmosphere, my love for the Canes, not the product at that particular moment. Sure its more fun when we are winning, but it wouldn't be the reason I would or wouldnt go. I go to ever high school home game in my town and they suck, but I love being there..but everyone is different lol
Posted by: UMike | September 18, 2012 at 02:49 PM
UMike...I am with U 100%. I would go see the Canes play football at any location and under any circumstances.
Well that and the cheerleaders.
Shoot I would go JUST for the tailgate! More on that later...

Times are changing and have changed. The times of Miami getting away with putrid attendence and still getting elite recruits will be over IMO. Kids these days want more than just "tradition and prestige." It's more than that to them now whether that's right or wrong. There is no reason that Miami can't fill the stadium 6 times a year with 4+ million people living within an hour of the stadium. Like I said in the last blog that EVERYONE needs to be held accountable for the decline of the team from the players and coaches to the fans and administration. Everyone can do better. Again, just my opinion...

Run on us maybe, but I doubt she could pass against us.

Posted by: CoCane | September 18, 2012 at 04:13 PM
Congrats to Mike James
Co - I am with you and Al Davis - LOL. I sat through so many cold, wet games here to watch ints get thrown, tackles missed and us lose so that other teams fans could dangle keys in our faces....that happened at Blacksburg and in Raleigh. The tarheel fans were nicer and at Wake and Duke we actually won

UMike...what happened to your sale?
Posted by: 86Cane | September 18, 2012 at 05:10 PM
If we WIN they will come..
This has always been our fan modus operandi..
There is so much happening in So. Fl that the 'Canes winning would be an event to be experienced...In those games that warrant interest the Fans will be there.
Winning I agree changes everything..Top 20 gets there.. Top 10 it would be like the old OB..FACT.
Go 'Canes Always

86, we were literally TWO DAYS away from 85K, had the contract signed and all, we were just figuring out a closing location. The for some crazy reason one of my vendors, my main vendor, decided to stab me in the back so he could get a larger account from my old boss who sued me a few years ago. When the buyer contacted my vendor to open an account, the vendor took his information and passed it to my old boss (current competitor) who had his lawyer send the buyer a threatening email of lies. The buyer backed off and said we had to settle it first. We offered them 20K which is all we would of had after paying of debt, not only did this scumbag reject the 20K, he wrote my wife and mother-in-law and told them I was meeting woman from online sex sites when I worked there. It took everything in my power, and my Faith to not drive down to Florida, or have some old friends shut him up. So..we werent able to sell and the debt grew and so did the stress,..so its not time to let go.

The stats dispute that claim. Even in the "glory" years (early 2000's) watching arguably the best college football team ever assembled the attendance wasn't that great. Like I said times have changed we and the fans need to go to games to make recruits want to go there...

NFL Films President Steve Sabol dies at 69
The Associated Press
NEW YORK -- NFL Films President Steve Sabol has died from brain cancer. He was 69.
The NFL said Sabol died Tuesday, 18 months after he was diagnosed with a tumor on the left side of his brain. Sabol started working with his father Ed, NFL Films' founder, in 1964, and their innovations revolutionized sports broadcasting and helped make the NFL the country's most popular sport.
Ed was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame last year. The two received the Lifetime Achievement Emmy from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in 2003.

3 things on where I stand this year. 1 we must win 6 games so we can forfit a bowl game. 2 we need to recruit a class that addresses our issues and train like hell in the winter and spring. 3 I would LOVE to spoil someones season, I'm looking at you FSU! I will take VTech as a 2nd, lol. The 1st 2 things must happen. Mandatory items or I lose it. Not that I have any power, but I WILL go crazy and take it out on digital teams on my PS3 and will sign a new digital coach. The last thing will just make me feel like this was a good season. Especially if its FSU and if we are their only loss. I would take a 6 and 6 season with a FSU win.

Thanks guys..I know God has a plan for me, and I know Im not always going to like that plan, but I have enough Faith to trust His plan. I struggled with it because I was taught to fight evil with evil, im from Opa-Locka, this type of stuff don't slide..BUT, that old person doesn't roll like that any more. I just pray for them as well as me....so its all good...my next business (hopefully launched in the next few weeks) will be bigger and better lol

This to me demonstrates how poorly UM football has been run from 2007 to the 3ed week of 2012
How our progress from 2007 til now compares with other teams rebuilding in 2007
Alabama 2007 7-6 current rank #1
FSU 2007 7-6 current rank #4
S Car 2007 6-6 current rank # 7
Stanford 2007 4-8 current rank # 9
ND 2007 3-9 current rank # 11
KSU 2007 5-7 current rank # 15
Lvlle 2007 6-6 current rank # 20
UM 2007 5-7 current rank # 53
I'd go on but I got vomit on the keyboard

No surprise, but - Injury Update: Freshman LB Raphael Kirby will not play against Georgia Tech - He's still regaining form. Needs practice time.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | September 18, 2012 at 09:15 PM
Peoples claims in the countersuit that every decision he made was approved by Keith Young. And he calls Vince Young's unwillingness to accept responsibility "a common occurrence ... as (former Titans coach) Jeff Fisher, (Texas coach) Mack Brown, numerous NFL executives, coaches, teammates, scouts, girlfriends and illegitimate children will attest."
Oh snap, ha ha ha ha!

For all them peoples tryin to start up sh$# bout TH3 & Coach D need to squash that f n sh$#. Yah Coach D can be tough but thats what you want at Miami. U dont need m fers clappin their hands on the sideline no matter if sh$# went good or bad.
Butch and popz Vern would say sh$# right in your face callin, you, your family and friends every f n name they could. Butch was famous for callin ballahs a female body part if you got blasted or missed a tackle.
ITS F N FOOTBALL AND NOT BIBLE STUDY TIME.
