Stay strong, Mike. There's warmth and sun on the other side of the storm

orange 'n green in the vein

Ask Kansas how being ticked off that your coach is verbally unpolished being the reason behind a change in the staff works out for you?

solarcane

cg,

Pretty sad list isn't it?

Remember how we were gonna win the Coastal in 07 and NC by 10 at the latest and Louisville and Boise State couldn't carry our jocks cause it was all about the U and you play for us or get beat by us and on and on and on?

All those teams in that list were our peers or lesser programs in 07.
Each one took care of business while we made excuses.

TCU linebacker Joel Hasley has been named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week for his play in the Horned Frogs' 20-6 victory at Kansas.

A sophomore from Aledo, Texas, Hasley totaled a career-high 12 tackles (eight solo), including two sacks.

Hasley, making just his second collegiate start, was instrumental in the Horned Frogs limiting the Jayhawks to two field goals, extending TCU's streak to nine consecutive quarters without allowing a touchdown.

who is this guy's linebacker coach again???

Posted by: solarcane | September 18, 2012 at 10:20 PM

LOL. There is a big difference between a linebacker's coach and head coach PLUS Patterson has been rolling for awhile now. I wanted either he or Peterson to come here when this position opened up

C U guys tomorrow

Anthonyjmanis

CGNC are talking about the Russel Wilson game in 08'. Were after the last pick me and my 8 month pregnat wife got up and left and of course they waited til I got past them to run there mouth at her about her shirt pointing to her big stomach saying future cane that game sucked Ive never been that wet and cold.Plus I had been to a dozen or so games and that was the first time I saw them lose like that in person. The Gt reggie Ball game in the Atl was a loss but everyone was scared when we had the ball with 17 seconds left. They couldnt belive they won. Ill be in the atl this weekend but not in attendance my wife bands me from away games I get carried away with the opposing fans win or lose. I be flying the flags.

UMike -

I echo the sentiments of Solar and the others!

Hang tough, amigo

Pre83

This to me demonstrates how poorly UM football has been run from 2007 to the 3ed week of 2012

How our progress from 2007 til now compares with other teams rebuilding in 2007

Alabama 2007 7-6 current rank #1

FSU 2007 7-6 current rank #4

S Car 2007 6-6 current rank # 7

Stanford 2007 4-8 current rank # 9

ND 2007 3-9 current rank # 11

KSU 2007 5-7 current rank # 15

Lvlle 2007 6-6 current rank # 20

UM 2007 5-7 current rank # 53

I'd go on but I got vomit on the keyboard

Solar - Great analysis!! It sure is very telling.

If anyone should see this, it needs to be the Don. Or at least those in charge of hiring the HC.

I understand that for the most part, the academic aspect of the U has improved.

Does it really have to be one or the other?! The Ivy Leaguer of the West doesn't believe so as Stanford demonstrated.

Should the U?

Is it a lack of commitment from the top? A series of bad decisions? Both?

Whatever it is, it needs to change and in a big way in a big hurry.

Hell, we thought we waited a long time when RS was hired.

The Don should be bringing AG coffee in the morning as she is on strike two and behind in the count...

Just to answer the question from the previous blog by Canerock. Here was how the article and the reference to "garbage" players who needed to be weeded out read.

Here’s something that might make UM fans like D'Onofrio a little less: he didn't offer any quick fix remedies Monday. Instead, he basically asked for more patience, and compared Miami's defensive mess to a reclamation project, like the ones he undertook as a linebackers coach at Rutgers and then as defensive corodinator at Temple with Al Golden.

There, D’Onofrio mixed what little talent he inherited with a lot of freshmen and sophomores. Eventually, the garbage was weeded out, and the defenses improved. With 17 freshmen and sophomores on the Canes' two deep on defense, the plan here is essentially the same.

Read more here: http://miamiherald.typepad.com/umiami/2012/09/when-it-comes-to-fixing-ums-defense-donofrio-is-thinking-long-term-not-immediate.html#storylink=cpy

Now, did the reporter use the term garbage or did D'Nofrio? I don't know. I must admit when I read it I thought the "garbage" reference was a direct quote from D'Nofrio. But clearly there are no quotation marks around the statement in the article.

I could probably find the interview but it isn't worth my time. And I want to move on.

I want to say that Mike James is a great kid, and he produced spectacular yards last week. I thought he was decisive in his reads and played an excellent game. We need him big time this week for us to have a chance. But everyone really needs to step up.

GT is better than VT even though they lost the game against VT on a boneheaded play by Tevin Washington when they had at least a field goal in the bag in overtime. Al Groh finally has recruited the right players to play his defense.

The GT offense is not as strong inside the tackles as it has been in years past, which is, from a defensive perspective, our weakness. But if we don't see 7 guys between the tackles in this game, even if they cheat a little to the outside, I'll go ape chit. Of course, my wife has lately been going to the zoo and is preferring the apes lately to me during Canes games.

TonyCane

Pre83, it was a few things:

1) Listening to the team who did not want to switch systems in 2001, and hiring Coker over Alvarez.

2) Getting out recruited for offensive skill positions players (particularly QBs and WRs) for four consecutive years - losing key recruits to Syracuce of all places - to the point where punters and prize cornerbacks had to be converted to wide outs.

3) Dithering for weeks to hire a replacement to Coker, missing out on Stoops, failing to hire Leach, and badly hampering the 2007 recruiting class.

4) Being too thrifty to open the purse strings to Shannon.

That's just for starters.

Basically 2002 - 2006 was spent being outrecruited until we were a shell of an offensive football team, and 2007-2010 was spent spinning our wheels due to a constantly rotating cast of coordinators, an absurd number of transfers, and a lack of player development.

I'm not sold that Golden is the next Nick Saban or Bill Belichek in terms of strategy, but I think he will prove to be a major, long-term upgrade in recruiting. Bottom line, what are Butch Davis, Urban Meyer, and Mack Brown known best for (besides the national championships in the case of the latter two)? It's their recruiting.

SJMPARMAN

As for Butch, it wasn't just recruiting great talent, which he did, but it was being organized enough to understand how you have to recruit from year to year that made a difference. You have to understand how the recruits you currently take will lead to a stable program over 4 years.

Even if the NCAA lets you take 30 recruits in a year, you probably don't need to use every available scholarship on a quick fix. You got 85 scholarship players, and you should time your recruits over the four year cycle. Yes, if Duke is there, you take him. But don't take a 2 or 3 star unless your gut tells you they are a special player.

Save that scholarship for the next year. Plan four years out. Create a system where you recruit for immediate need but also have a vision of where you have a team that you can say, if I am great coach, I can develop these guys along the way, and when they are juniors and seniors, they will produce for us. For a decade, we have recruited for need and not focused on the big picture. Butch focused on how to lead us back to glory in the long term, and took his lumps during the process. Jimmy eventually did it. Erickson benefited from what Jimmy did after he left. That is what we need from Al. We need a system and not just a collection of recruits we play as freshmen.

Panamacitycane

Not sure if someone already posted on previous blog I don't feel like looking but Kellen Winslow signed with the patriots to replace Hernandez while he is hurt

BigWindyCane1

I guess we will have a better idea of what kind of season the Canes will have after this weekend. Ga. Tech is one of the best teams in the Coastal and already have one conference loss, and they will be at home and ready.

D'No's D improved slightly last week, but the Canes will play a much better D. I am sure they have practiced against this, but it will be assignment football in its ultimate form. Assignments, Leadership and communication and reading your keys will be the key to victory.

If the Canes can find a way to win this weekend, they will be in the drivers' seat in the Coastal and that KSU performance will be a distant memory.

nemo2002

I can't wait for Saturday.

Indeed. It can't be overstated how critical this game will be. Win. Now.

I can honestly say that I am not looking forward to this game.

CoCane

If we play a close competitive game against GT win or lose, the KSU game was probably a fluke & the players are developing. If we get slaughtered, it's a bad sign of things to come for the rest of the season...

Ohio_Cane

KSU vs OU this weekend will be telling of what kind of team we got stomped by 2 weeks ago.

UMike

How many of you guys have scalped tickets at the game before...or waited to you got to the game to buy tickets? My friend wants to do it rather than pay extra for shipping/will call etc..but I have never done it and dont know if it is a good idea lol

PS: I will be quietly rooting for FSU lol

By the end of the day on Saturday we'll know whether the U is busting out or whether we're busted.

The Dude

I had a dream last night we beat GTech 5-3. It came down to a last minute play where GTech ran the ball instead of trying the FG. We stopped them on the 2 yard line. Chick made the play.

Tsully76

UMIKE yes sir. Go to Ga. Tech athletic site. Under Ga Tech single game parking pick option A 3rd Street A T & T deck near the Varsity bruh. We tailgating on the top deck bruh

UpNorthCane27

UMike

Tsully76

UMike u can pay in advance or whenever you get there bruh. Gonna be a blast. Go Canes beat Ga. Tech

UMike

Tsully..ok..were gonna do that...I will get with u off the blog before then and exchange numbers so I know who I'm looking for lol.....who else is in?

LB

Just read that Hurns is back. Great news!

Man, Mike James is one awesome dude... it's about time he gets that recognition.

Hassan

Bubba wanted to come back in the game right away, he says he was fine but the UM staff is VERY cautious about the head injuries.... SO expect Hurns to play at a high level this week.

BTW Josh Witt still is having memory loss from his head injury, spoke to him a few days ago. So I do not blame UM for being extra cautious on the head injuries.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Man up. Custom RaizeCane Game day recipe:

1. Mix a STRONG Cap'n N Coke.

2. Get your Canespace gear on.

3. Sit in your lucky chair (don't ask, yes, it is STILL lucky).

4. Do what U gotta do: Pray, beg, plead, grovel, use up all of your Karma for a victory but do NOT whine.

5. During kickoff: STAND UP!

6. After the first UM score do a shot of Cap'n and then mix another moderate drink.

7. At halftime get up and celebrate Miami's halftime LEAD.

8. Cut, copy and paste...Remember I told U this: Canes win 37-31.

9. Oh yeah and this: Dallas Crawford.

umike,
I thought I was going GT up here and UNC down in Fl but a change in work plans has me visiting beautiful South Carolina for a month or so from Oct 1, you guys have a blast at the game.
Stay off MARTA after midnight. Don't wander around near the GT campus alone after dark, keep a friend close by.
Lock all your good stuff in your trunk before you go into the stadium.

STAY OUT OF EAST POINT http://www.neighborhoodscout.com/ga/east-point/crime/

note 100 is the safest neighborhoods in America while is 0 the most dangerous neighborhoods, also note the BIG 0 on East Point.
