Miami's 2012 Recruiting Class Ranked Ninth

CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- In its 30th annual breakdown of college baseball's top recruiting classes, Collegiate Baseball newspaper ranked the Miami Hurricanes' 2012 class as the ninth-best in the nation.

The Hurricanes' 13-member class, comprised of 11 true freshmen, one redshirt freshman and one junior, was ranked third-best in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The rankings are based on players who enroll at school each fall. Players who initially signed with a school and then signed a professional contract after being drafted do not count in the overall evaluation.

Clemson (No. 5), North Carolina (No. 8), Florida State (No. 19), Georgia Tech (No. 28) and Virginia (No. 32) rounded out the ACC teams ranked in the top 40.

1 Vanderbilt Commodores
2 UCLA Bruins
3 Arizona State Sun Devils
4 LSU Tigers
5 Clemson Tigers
6 Stanford Cardinal
7 Florida Gators
8 North Carolina Tar Heels
9 Miami Hurricanes

If we beat NCST and UNC the we set up against FSU where ANYTHING could happen?

Watching the Miami / ga tech replay 4 the second day in a row. Can't tell u how many times I watched the YouTube highlights since Sunday. Just like the U documentary, if its on I'm gonna watch it!

RDurk4

Here's my analysis. If we beat NC State, we'll be ranked. We probably deserve it. But we may get over ranked because people want us to be over-hyped for the ND game for ratings, and to boost them up if we lose, or lessen the impact on ND if we win. What do you guys think?

The Dude

Posted by: RDurk4 | September 25, 2012 at 10:02 PM

If we beat NCST we may be ranked top 25.

It will be close and will depend on others win/losses.

Zero chance we are over ranked for rating purposes or to help the Irish's fall from grace if we beat them.

The Dude

Its not for sure we beat NCST. I've saying it since the spring. NCST is a TRAP game. Canes better be focused.

Keep in mind, depending on what poll you are reading Miami got 1 or 2 votes. That means we will have to blow the doors off NCST and jump some people or 17 teams in front of us need to lose. We are not as close to the Top 25 as you are thinking we are.

The Dude

http://www.capitalonebowl.com/vote

Alright seriously people vote for Sebastian, we can not lose to Ms. Wuf for Christ sake! Especially not this week we; can guarantee victory here.

TonyCane

We are NOT ranked if we beat NCST. We only got one vote in the AP this week. If we beat Notre Dame we probably break in at #23 or 24.

I remember a Miami Hurricane squad in 2006 that reached 5-2 and was still unranked.

The Dude

Posted by: TonyCane | September 25, 2012 at 10:26 PM

I may be a touch more optimistc than you TonyCane. If we win our next 2, one of which is on the road vs a top 10 team, I will go out on a limb and say we get to between 17 or 19. But yeah, beating NCST and getting ranked is a stretch. It will really depend on how we win.

The Dude

I imagine NCST will do much of the same as Boston College did and they will be the first team we've faced since BC that has the drop back and pass scheme, except NCST is better. We will see how far our coordinator that doesnt coach offense has come. As far as David Amerson is concerned, alot of what you saw agaist Tennessee was the safety not staying back and Amerson realeased the WR to the zone. That being said, NCST wants that kid to take chances because he is a playmaker and can hurt the Canes. We should pick and choose how attack him and keep up with that SWEET 9 step drop we've been working on.

LaQuinton

The dude.. That's spot on sir.

Looks like glennons favorite target is a 6'4'' junior so far he has 18 catches for 338 yards and 1 td. im confident in Brandon he has been playing smart and aggressive

Well done Laquinton. Well done!

Laquinton

What are the chances of um landing Jermaine Grace and Matthew Thomas ?

The Dude

Can we put cash in the envelope?

The Dude

Posted by: Laquinton | September 25, 2012 at 11:31 PM

Interesting question. Grace said he wanted to go where Thomas goes or maybe he said he wanted to wait like Thomas was, I cant remember. But I like us getting Grace more than Thomas. Last Booker T. kid we got was OT under Shannon. I think it depends on some on sanctions too and how some SEC schools go after them. I'll say its less than a coin flip, but the chances go up with every win and how well the coach on the non offensive side of the ball can sell them on his scheme and being a pipeline to the pros. 40%ish, but I dont know.

The Dude

So you think Miami needs 2 LBs in this class? What about Stacy Thomas?

The Dude

Plus there is the kid from Washington DC Yannick Ngakoue.

The Dude

We really dont have but a few more spots left.
1 QB Olsen
2 RB Collins
3 RB Lewis III
4 FB/TE Johnson
5 TE Standish
6 OL Kerr
7 OL Gall
8 OL Kirkland?
9 WR Jean-Louis
10 WR Cunningham?
11 NT Bryant
12 DT (Bostwick?)
13 LB (Thomas?)
14 LB (Grace or Ngakoue?)
15 DE (I dont know)
16 CB Burns
17 DB Carter

Ohio Cane, is that about right?

The Dude

Alright, now I'm a blog hog.

SJMPARMAN

Can anyone give us a realistic viewpoint of the NC State team? I remember visiting their stadium in 2009, and thinking we would win, and getting crushed in the 2nd half. Their quarterback Glennon is from my area, he had a brother that played NCAA ball as well, and people say he is better than his brother. Just how much of a threat is NC State? I would do the stats analysis this week, but am a little busy but does anyone know whether they are a legit 3-1 team? I ain't talking just numbers but also level of competition. Anyone know?

Jiggafras

Posted by: SJMPARMAN | September 26, 2012 at 12:39 AM

They have only played one true road game v Uconn, they won 10-7. They played UT in Atlanta and look horrible. Glennon had 4 picks in that game. Their other 2 games were at home v South Alabama and The Citadel. Most of their stats are average considering the opponents they have played imo. One thing stood out, they are 113th in sacks allowed nationally, 11th in the ACC having given up 14 sacks. we have given up 6 in comparison and we played 3 true road games.

LaQuinton

Glennons brother had the chance to compete with tyrod Taylor and went...

and np guys.

WWIN

Posted by: SJMPARMAN | September 26, 2012 at 12:39 AM

I seen em play Tennessee and was not impressed. Glennon didn't impress me either, he took a sack while out of the pocket when he had time to just throw it away. Their best db got beat for 2 td's

WWIN

But on the other hand, you know how we make even third string qb's look. I don't know if we turned the corner last week or it was just against ga tech?? We shall see Saturday

Interesting read on ncst

Panamacitycane

Laquinton. The best part of that was the comments from the fans..all they wanted to talk about was how cool the picture they used is. I think they are having issues with injuries are RB. So lets pressure the QB and drop 6 in coverage..have to make this qb beat us dont let us beat ourselves! GO CANES!!!

IraqiCane

Is there anything new on Kevin Olsen's broken foot?

BigWindyCane1

Per Barry Jackon of the Miami Herald (Evidence of Culture change in Coral Gables):

### How much has UM’s conditioning improved (which was key in the Georgia Tech win)? In August 2011, 40 players failed Golden’s conditioning test. None did this year.
