umike,
I thought I was going GT up here and UNC down in Fl but a change in work plans has me visiting beautiful South Carolina for a month or so from Oct 1, you guys have a blast at the game.
Stay off MARTA after midnight. Don't wander around near the GT campus alone after dark, keep a friend close by.
Lock all your good stuff in your trunk before you go into the stadium.

I see alot of optimism for this game from alot of people. I don't see it, GT looked big and physical everytime when i watched them v VT and UVA. No'D is still our co-ordinator and he sucks and last year we had players who seen the Option 3 or 4 years so am not giving No'D any credit for that. We have the athletes to do it but this team is more indiscipline than they were under Shannon, which is very hard to imagine. They make no adjustments from a coaching standpoint. I will be drinking alot from maybe 10 in the morning because i dread them putting 470 rushing on us like in 08. I hope they prove me wrong

I would second just about everything in this post. UM has a punchers chance with a good offensive game plan but the defense is going to have to surprise like they did last year with their 60 minutes which included some big fourth down stops.

WWIN

Soup,

What happened to Dallas seeing the field this year, 4th string rb after all the hype during the off season?? I don't get what's going on. I mean we heard gunter was the best cb we have and he's not really seeing the field either. Then you got jimmy gaines who got all kind of write ups last year before the season started and the coaches talked about how smart he is and how good he's doing and he earned a starting position but now a year later and after U Tuff he can't start?? I'm not saying I like gaines but its funny how the coaches minds changed all of a sudden. Darius smith was un blockable but now?? Etc, etc???

Totally man I just don't see why people are acting like GT are scrubs, they are better than we are. Particularly on D, i have seen them going from lost timid players in that 3-4 scheme to now shutting teams down. Playing VT and UVA starting out is no joke and they could have won both games and they dominated UVA. If Morris can't get the team lined up and moving the offense down the field, its Kansas St ugly again because i don't see us stopping them at all. Beating BCC showed me nothing except Duke is insane but we already knew that.

/\/\/\

I disagree with this post, the Virginia schools are still the for lovers state schools, nothing special but they don't roll over for a belly pet on command. However, GT had that opener won then got dumb with the QB making some Morris-esque' moments of decision making in overtime. If Stephen can't get this one going, there needs to be a hook ready to go because there's too many weapons on offense if he can't stop throwing too high and Williams deserves the chance to play because so far, in the red zone in 2012, he's been on the money which is what this team needs to unleash the offense.

I meant to say GT are NO scrubs and they are better than we are. I also said they could have won against both UVA and VT and they dominated UVA. And that is no joke to start off the season.

orange 'n green in the vein

Unlike Miami's coach, I do not consider the turkey's as the standard of anything, except a practical joke of a football team. UVA is a bottom half of the division team this year I have a sneaking suspicion, although I respect the job London is doing there, although he's no George Welch and TCU is going to buzz-saw them this week.

Yeah short of me inventing the next facebook that is not going to happen.

The Dude

Nice article Hassan. Canes need a new climate controlled stadium, close to campus that seats maybe 50,000. They should change some stuff up. They should still run through the smoke, but no blow up helmet it looks silly. Also the smoke should fill up the entire ground, no guys firing off fire extinguishers but a pump system that does it. Also it should be a super loud stadium so we can be loud a hell and stop offenses. Inside the stadium it should have palm trees and statues dedicated to each one of our national championships. And we should open it up with the most high tech uniforms that are throwback style.
And the 20 Yard line should have Reed written right across the top of numbers. Oh and instead of a 50 yard line? A 52 yard line. That right boys its 52 yards to center feild. The stadium should be name The Orange Bowl at Schnellenber Feild.

LETS MAKE IT HAPPEN

Finishing the first quarter of the season at 3-1 would be a very good accomplishment, given that UM would be 2-0 in conference play in an extremely weak ACC. It sets tempo, pace, and an opportunity to gain momentum before playing some more ranked opponents under difficult circumstances. If so, I happen to believe that one of those ranked fellows can and will be upset by our beloved Canes.

Sliding in at 2-2 in the face of the disaster at Manhattan would be horrible. Coaching changes abound. Nightmares for the rest of the season. I actually did not predict an outcome for KSU, but simply hid under a rock until it passed.

This is perhaps the most important game in Al Golden's career. Another win on the road makes the Canes interesting and can truly solidify the future. A loss? Nastiness abound, from all sides... and not wholly undeserved.

Beat Georgia Tech. By 1 or by 40, it matters not. Crack some heads and win so we as Cane Nation can finally take a breath...

Alright sports fans, here we go. I hate to be the Grim Reaper but this could get nasty. I see no way we turn these defensive problems around in one week. We coughed up over 200 yds, on the ground to Betty Cookman, so it doesn't bode well for us to stop Tech. We do have a mi-nute chance if Jedd Clampet opens up the play book, we hold them to around 200 yds on the ground and they get real generous and turn the ball over 3 times, can you say Fat Chance? It pains me to watch us get gutted but the reality of it is, we just don't have the horses up front on dee, to stop a dam leak. Tech 34-21. Hope I'm wrong!

Jiggafras

No'D has no idea what he is doing, he has no idea how to devise a gameplan to stop anybody. we have the players to stop GT, i just don't think we are coaching them enough to do it and am sorry to say but Dinich probably have the score in the right area. We have to be realistic, after what we saw at K State, that was awful and nothing i saw against BCC tells me we are getting better.

CGNC

Posted by: Jiggafras | September 20, 2012 at 01:11 PM

True but at K-State our QB checked out and there were drops galore. KState is a team that uses alot of clock and when we went 3 and out and put our young D back out there, well.....a couple of sustainable scoring drives and it would have been a better outcome

Ohio_Cane

UM Injury Report for Georgia Tech: Out This Week = Perryman, Porter, Kirby & Swasey. Out for Season = McNally & Buchanon

Jiggafras

Posted by: CGNC | September 20, 2012 at 01:20 PM

GT hogs the clock more than K State and its kinda hard to keep focus on offense knowing every play is life or death because your defense allows the opposition to score on all but one drive in the first half, and only once was it not a TD. Here is the constant throughout our mediocrity....Mediocre defense! LSU offense was putrid but they end up SEC champs and in the NT. You would think some of these dudes we have had as coach would understand that. They negligently recruit DTs time and time again. Our DTs are poor, yet we only have one committed, we need to stack up on monster DTs or coach up the ones we have, is it any wonder we cant stop the run.....and the coincidence, most of the teams in our division are running teams. Mind boggling.

herbieibis

Jiggafras,

I hear ya dog! Been saying it for 2 years. Just wish Al would listen.I know he knows the problem but we can't keep getting middle of the road dudes and expect to win consistently. Keith Bryant is a soft verbal, and there are a couple others we can scoop. We just need 2 to begin with and build from there.

CGNC

Posted by: Jiggafras | September 20, 2012 at 01:55 PM

maybe go JUCO for DT's then? Morris is going to have to be on his game if GT is a clock hogger

UMike

Im not currently a D'No fan, BUT we did beat GT last year. I don't think the amount of yards matters that much as long as we keep them out of the end zone. I think we can score on them, and if we stay aggressive we can definitely win. GT is not such a great team, and we have stopped them for years, including LAST year with D'No. Having Hurns back is huge. IDK if we win, but I'm not about to predict us getting smacked around

Man up. Custom RaizeCane Game day recipe:

1. Mix a STRONG Cap'n N Coke.

2. Get your Canespace gear on.

3. Sit in your lucky chair (don't ask, yes, it is STILL lucky).

4. Do what U gotta do: Pray, beg, plead, grovel, use up all of your Karma for a victory but do NOT whine.

5. During kickoff: STAND UP!

6. After the first UM score do a shot of Cap'n and then mix another moderate drink.

7. At halftime get up and celebrate Miami's halftime LEAD.

8. Cut, copy and paste...Remember I told U this: Canes win 37-31.

9. Oh yeah and this: Dallas Crawford.

Whatever we have to do, get Shapiro out of prison and get the boat, call the limo, send the entire coaching staff to these kids house and get atleast 3 top DTs in here. Not 3 year projects, dude we are going to demand PT immediately. You'd be surprise how the D would take a 180 even with No'D coaching us, we would still be able to knock off the average programs in the ACC who keep beating us by running up the middle. Look what FSU did, they have like 100 DTs, becuase they made it a priority, why cant we get some good ones to commit.....and we have a few here in South Florida too. This is not Temple, you cant take 5 projects at a position of need. Just as how we attacked the CB position last year, we need that type of class on the DL

No'D gets no credit from me. Most of last year's team had face GT 4 years at that point. Since they drubbed us in 08 that was our 3rd straight win and none were close. They understood after that embarassment its all about assignments...point blank. If they beat GT this year then ill give No'D credit for it. And GT is a good football team particularly on D, Groh has them firing. Golden and No'D are gonna earn their paycheck coming up in these games.

I listened to No'D on WQAM....what is his infatuation with talking about Temple?....am like dude you coached here last year for god sakes.

WWIN

Jigga,

I believe I counted 7 DT's on our roster recruited by Golden and co, also Darius Smith came from a juco recruited by Golden and co

orange 'n green in the vein

Jigga, Temple didn't have a single win before the MAC staff of Miami arrived. They didn't even have a conference to play for a championship in. The MAC staff got them to never win a conference title during their time there either. Don't you see the amazing miracle job that was pulled off by the MAC staff there? What do you mean you were watching Randy Shannon put up a better career coaching record against much tougher competition at the time? The MAC staff was coaching at Temple! You should have been paying attention to what an amazing miracle job was being done there instead while they never finished first in the division! Why can't you see the brilliance of what was done at Temple Jiggafras?

WWIN

^^^^^^^

OGV,

You are funny lol

orange 'n green in the vein

Willie, personally, I think my favorite D'No excuse is when he says that the other team that just got done torching his side of the football for school record yardage totals again, 'ran things we didn't see on the film.'

Wait, you're telling me that other teams don't do exactly what they did in their previous games when they play you? And this happens often, like on a weekly basis? Well, what did you do at Temple when this happened D'No? Other than not win the division ever?

pbcfrcane13

WOW I hope some of these canes players watched this R. Lewis its a football life!! WOW. Not that any of thses kids need to be like him, but just learn what dedication to your craft really looks like and means. If you want to live your mark on this game just look a him... the proof is there you put in the work in this game you can become one of the greatest of all time....how great do you want to be canes?

UMike

Jigga..I understand we had players that played against GT before, but they still had to play that game in D'No's scheme. Those players didn't just go out there and play the years before scheme that they knew, they practiced a scheme and we won. Again, I am not saying D'No doesnt have issues, but he knows this offense from seeing GT and Navy and we won last year. All Im saying is it gives me some hope and I don't believe we will get blown out.

Jiggafras

Posted by: Willie Will in Nashville | September 20, 2012 at 03:13 PM

How many of them are project players? Thats my point, they have a Temple mentality here. Yeah you can transfer some principles but you can't recruit 5 projects at a position of need. Over the past 2 recruiting classes, we have brought in 2 250 pound DEs and turn them into DTs and 3 projects at DT. That is a Temple state of mind

UMike

The way we attacked the DB position with STUDS last year and so far this year is what they need to do with the DT's. I know it may be difficult with the majority of top DT's going to SEC schools, but if FSU can do it, Golden sure can..imo

herbieibis

Willie,

It probably is true that we have 7 DT's, Let's see Porter, Dude had an appendectamy 6 weeks ago and they still don't know when he'll be back. Maybe just like last year the last 2 games of the season. Pierre & Grimbal came in as DE's, din't get to reshirt and have put on like 35 lbs in one year, too much weight to soon. King finally got to see the field last week and he was a late addition to the team 2 years ago. Smith, a nose tackle, oh I forgot we don't run a 3-4 defense, Robinson, this being his 4TH year, is servicable at best and that leaves Big Earl, a freshman. I believe Briscoe and there is one more Freshman that will reshirt. I forgot about Jr. Alexis, has he played. Not a pretty sight. I'd love to come on here and say wonderful things but truth is the truff. We have Band Aids up front and what we need is a tourniquet.

Jiggafras

Posted by: UMike | September 20, 2012 at 03:38 PM

It doesn't matter the scheme you play in. Against GT every guy on the defense has to stick to their asignment until the ball comes to them. Shannon had the team practice with 3 football to learn this and we drilled GT every year since. No D got embarass against K State, again the team never saw them before last year even tho we had an experienced team. This year No'D had seen K State before but most of the players hasn't and we get drilled. So basically if the players havent seen it we lost, because we have a bozo coaching us who thinks everything thats wrong is caused by youth. LSU had a pretty youthful defense last year, not as youthful as ours but quite youthful and much more youthful than Bama's. No'D keeps on saying wait, wait my ass. I expect teams to be stronger than these FR because they are more mature physically. I dont expect them to be bomboozling us with the same plays over and over and over and over. Physical break down....thats on the players. Not ready schematically(mentally)...thats the coaches.

herbieibis

Pointing out whats wrong and what needs to be fixed is not negative nancy. Its the truth, something that has been missing while we wallow in mediocrity. I was super excited to watch us play K State and am super excited to watch every cane game every season, in person or on TV but i quit buying what people are selling until they go out there and prove it. I'll gladly eat crow and give No'D is props if we beat GT. He gets none when we are averaging 463 ypg( 100th), 31.3 pts(92nd), 205 rushing ypg (102nd), passing 257ypg (86th). These things are cause for concern and deserve discussion about the problems, not for us to be living in lala land.

If am wrong and the stats improve then, ill come and say it, im not gonna run and hide. I hope No'D call better defenses, that would mean we are winning. He is not doing it now tho

86, if you can point out why being pessimistic with 2012's edition of the Hurricanes who are 1-1 with a scrimmage to this point and an all time shellacking on the road is unfounded, I'm all ears.

If your reasons consist of any of the following phrases; "wildcat, Temple, rebuilding, or UTough," you need better reasons.

Points if you know this reference "SMASH at the 14"

Here are my reasons:

1. Wildcat
2. Temple
3. UTough

Willie, personally, I think my favorite D'No excuse is when he says that the other team that just got done torching his side of the football for school record yardage totals again, 'ran things we didn't see on the film.'

Classic

LOL when No'D says things like that, the follow up question should be then why are you calling plays?

OK, now for real, here are my reasons:

1. ANY Saturday, any teasm can beat any other team. I will NOT waste my time bringing up the 1,000 examples of total and complete underdogs beating ranked teams.

2. EVERY Saturday every fan of every team should have at least a faint glimmer of hope and faith in their team before the game starts.

3. ALWAYS believe your team is going to win. Why have them losing before the ball is even kicked off? What possible good does that do? How is that fun? Why would you be proud of that thought?

4. WHEN the game is over there will be PLENTY of time to do one of these two things:

A. Celebrate with my good friend RaizeCane and drink enough Captain and Coke to float a boat while smiling and watching girls dance on the bar in Buckhead; or

B. To commiserate with my friend OGV who has been known to pour shots of vodka into his cans of beer until he can't remember the third down call in the fourth quarter.

Jack: "Either way I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to."

Tom: "Did U order the Code Red?"

Jack: "YOUR DAMN RIGHT I DID!"
