The canes are a better team this year and they will shock some rope. They just need to improve in some areas on defense like with their assignments and communications. And they will get better. Perry man is all acc and player of the week. Duke is freshman of the week
I think we saw something special yesterday on the road by true freshman. I think al golden likes the potential he sees. Manhattan Kansas will be the canes opportunity to announce to the world that they are now really back for years to come.

"I could sit there and say, we should have just stepped on their throat when we were up big number and we let them back a little bit," Golden said. "But that's kinda who we are right now."

“I couldn't be prouder of a group,” Miami coach Al Golden said. “Down 14-0 in the ACC in a terrible environment, rattled a little bit, dropping balls, offsides and things like that, just to hang in there, that was good.”

They can beat K State. IF they hold them to FG's they can outscore them. The D will give up sh*tload of yards though...
Posted by: CoCane | September 02, 2012 at 10:22 AM
Someone mentioned to Golden that it might be a “little disconcerting” that the Eagles passed for 441 yards.
“Just a little disconcerting?” Golden replied. “We’ll get it worked out. I knew it wasn’t going to be perfect. But look at how many of those [young] guys were playing for us and look how many came through for us. We made a commitment to do that. It was wholesale.”

I guess Lol means no prediction from you. Or... You're laughing at the score you would predict. Either way, laughter keeps you young

I agree Co, they can beat K State. The team definitely looks in better condition. LOL but I saw Bama last night and those guys are monsters
Posted by: CGNC | September 02, 2012 at 10:30 AM
Co I will say this: If the D keeps missing assignments and have players out of position we win maybe by 3. If they can fix some of that we can win by 10. How's that? LOL!

"step on their throat"--when is the last time we heard a um coach say something like that? likey!

Man it was nice to see Davon Johnson catching balls yesterday! A lot of kids would have given up on Miami but he hung in, worked harder and got what he wanted finally. I am so happy for him!

I have no doubt our offense will show up against KSU but i am scared for our defense in that game, not saying we'll lose but that Klein kid is gonna run wild on us next week!

Just for yucks, I checked out what the Boston papers were saying. Duke Johnson is finally mentioned in the last paragraph of the entire article and only his 54 yard run merits any notice.

Canes 40 KSU 31
We have lots of tape on them now. As they do us.
We'll find a way because we have some selfless leaders now.
Protect the football and we win
2 ints for Tracy Howard and 1 for Kacy Rodgers-- their QB doesn't respect our defense so he will give them opportunities.

Good win yesterday for our Canes, Next big game on my radar for our Canes is in Atlanta on September 22nd. It would be nice to beat Kansas State but not a must win game. These conference games especially these division games hold most importance to me nonconference games are icing on a cake for our Canes right now. Go Canes
Posted by: Tsully76 | September 02, 2012 at 11:04 AM
If we get to the head, the body will fall = Colin Klein has to go. Denzel or Shayon must get to him.
Posted by: Zakkee | September 02, 2012 at 11:07 AM
K State is really an option offense. So our D needs to be disciplined and focus on the man they are supposed to pick up.
The defense will get better as the season progresses. Its not like the old days where the majority of the college game was running the football. Theres a lot more scheming going on. At some point tho we will get to the point where we can beat a team physically on the inside.. pass rush and stuffing the run.. not sure we are at that point yet. More depth of big guys with a motor will solve the problem.
We had the opportunity in the fourth to blow them out of the game. Just needed a couple of plays in out favor that would have made it look easier. But we sort of lost our composure. Great win.

"The game was tied at 9 early in the third quarter before Kansas State piled up 42 straight points against the team picked to finish last in the Missouri Valley Conference."

Let's try this for the third and final time:
1) Morris is much improved- still had his share of mistakes that he got away with, but he looks like a leader on the sidelines and, when he commits to a throw, it's on the money.
2) Get used to saying DUUUUUUKKKKKEEEE for 3 years, that kid just gets it. Nothing else you can say, other than isn't it great to see a natural talent again?
4) Hurns looked good, Scott made rookie mistakes that should be correctable, Dorsett is a heck of a returner and looks like in time will be a weapon, Davon was a pleaant surprise, more so as a mentor than a producer but I'm proud of the kid, and KT looked like KT unfortunately (hope he snaps out of it). TE largely disappeared.
5) OL looked dominant at times, solid throughout. We can win with this group, they look storng and athletic.

We've had a lot of great returners even over the last 6 years. The fact that none can really finish the deal outside of Lamar Miller and Travis Benjamin vs. O-State is a testament to just how heaven sent Devin Hester was and is. Think about it: If these guys are so talented, then how do we describe Hester? Just saying, that boy is special.
He finishes the deal routinely.
Posted by: Zakkee | September 02, 2012 at 11:57 AM
(I split this in two hoping things work out better)
6) DL, other than Robinson, disappointed. They don't look overmatched, just lost at times to me. Chickillo doesn't look bad, he's just getting double teamed and hasn't figured out how to fight through yet. WIlling to bet they will get better.
7) Perryman is the best LB we've had in a decade. This kid is damned special! Gaines looked like Gaines for most of the game, but made a few nice plays in the 2nd half. Wish he were big enough to play at DE, he is fine when he has to go straight ahead, but misdirection kills him. Kind of like watching Doofenschmirtz fail to recognize Perry the Platypus without his hat on. And 31, please change your number! Spence made that one special, and I can't remember ever seeing one player chasing someone so many times on long plays. Hoping this is a case of being young and not ready.
8) Finnie looked ok, the DB looked real good against deep passes, not so much against anything else. I need to adjust my expectaitons re: Telemaque. He isn't going to be the guy we thought he was.
9) Loved, loved, loved special teams. Botts is a real weapon, he doesn't get flustered and really is a find. Kick coverage units are great, this is a good sign for next year for us re: defense.
10) Conditioning is unbelelievably better than at any time in the last decade. No cramps, no injuries that I saw, the team looks strong and tough. Golden has accomplished something really special with this area of the team.
11) Golden looks more relaxed, kidn of like he knows what to expect and knows how the kids will react, where last year he hoped he could get through to them. Fisch did exactly what he said he would do, and say what you want about yards given up, but D'Onofrio's D kept the Eagles out of the end zone for 3 quarters, despite a lot of proven talent.
Overall, it was fun to watch this game, the team is entertaining again for the first time in a long time and looks much, much better in terms of fundamentals, conditioning, strength, and attitude. We're moving forward, and it's been years since we've said that.

I was, CEO- love to hear his comments on 31- or anyone else's for that matter.

K-State stole that game last year with a simple offensive scheme (OSU's one effective play down D'No's throat all day) and are stronger this year. They will probably not come up with the breaks as often as they did last year, for example don't expect Fisch to get too cute on the play calling with six feet to go for the winning TD with the game on the line this weekend, hopefully, and won't rack up 10 wins but will be tougher to beat on the road with a bigger stadium and a more supportive home crowd. Golden could use a day of out-coaching one of these legends in the stadium named for him to get some traction going and had the team play well in the second half of back-to-back road games last year but Armstrong's absence back there on defense is glaring right now and I'm not sure there's a five day fix for the defensive issues. When you're undefeated in college football, every game is important and this game will garner UM some poll votes if they can escape with a win.
Maybe D'No watches the footage and realizes his corners in press resulted in positive defensive plays and switches it up finally. Better late than never.

CGNC,
Don't forget K State's defense is better than BC's.
Win the turnover battle, hold them to FG's while we score TD's & don't let Klein go Cam Newton, we'll win...

When Fisch sent in bogus plays...you could see Morris check out (mentally). You have to keep these young kids interested, they know when you're trying to dial them down and just cruise. Unfortunately, this generation of kids doesn't possess a cruise control, they totally black out, and thus near pick 6's to end the game.

Best part of conditioning work is that 7 guys aren't on IR already as opposed to every previous year pretty much.

My kstate prediction is that we put up points on them and if..and I mean if we make good adjustments to defense then Miami will win. These freshman became men yesterday and that was a great way to start their college career. The nerves I don't think will be as bad as they were that first quarter yesterday.
Miami 31

Fisch kept sending in plays where the WRs didn't have to do much work to get open. Because those guys aren't good at getting open. If they do start being able to get separation downfield, Morris has more than enough arm to score a ton of points.
But for now, Fisch is going to keep sending in screens, short out routes, and the occasional slant pattern, because it's working, even if it's not pretty. If Morris "checks out," that's on him, not on Fisch.
