NEW BLOG IS UP!

mi@mic@ne

I work with a guy who was a college receiver and is now about 35 years old. He played for a small college but he was very fast and scored a lot. In one game he chipped his front tooth. The other day the tooth fell out. Its a very noticeable change in his appearance but he doesnt have the money to pay to have it replaced.
I was thinking about all the people who profited from his success and the fans who got to enjoy victories because of it. It makes me sick to see a family man suffer without being repaid for it. Why should Al Golden be penalized for something that happened 4 years ago? You know that any time you get caught up in a situation where you lively hood is affected that you can sue the person who slandered your name and who went after your livelihood. I dont understand why people think there is no injustice done to people when the NCAA arbitrarily causes injury to innocent parties. In my opinion its the same thing as being harmed by someone personally.

VA Cane

Though some NCAA rules are pure bull hockey, its a shame this school cannot play with the rules and guidelines. RS was spot on with Shapiro...and other jerks like him. You have to keep the lambs from the wolves....and this may mean former players having limited access. Irvin said he used to call and text.....talk about a undesireable role model. I find him to be a very repulsive human....crying at HOF and crap...he is not a family guy at all...great player no doubt...but another loudmouth...I do not want him influencing players one on one....encouraging the team as a whole is one thing...calling and talking that ancient art of magic ie SWAG to kids....not good at all. Sad thing is that this happens just about everywhere.

Tonycane

4real, he'll no! I'm as big of a cane fan as anyone! I just fear that if the allegations are proven, the NCAA will have no choice but to come down with unprecedented sanctions. The spin from the NCAA will be that our violations were in their own way were as bad or exceeding penn state. That said, because penn state did not get the death penalty we will not. I hope that I am wrong. It's vital that Miami get six wins this year and take another bowl ban. I think the minimum bowl ban by the NCAA will be three years.

SinisterCane

All this was allowed to go on by UM top brass, so who will be the first to resign?

Tonycane

I fear that the reason that Norte dame is essentially in as a 15th member, besides the obvious is that miami's long term future as a viable CBS football program is in doubt. A death penalty or the type of sanctions I spoke of earlier would force the acc to drop Miami, or for shalala to either suspend the program or drop it down to 1aa status.

VA Cane

No harm no foul on Mandingo....he has a job to do, and is reporting facts after the fact that the NCAA already has this info. He is a great guy!!! We need to focus on UNC and playing fundemental football....especially D.

4-Real

Let's not 4get that Manny is a Fiu grad. He could care less bout tha boyz.

VA Cane

I think the NCAA is like a mountain lion, laying in wait, ready to pounce. We got in trouble before, and it looks like we have been doing bad stuff since...at least in the NCAA thought process. They will do all they can do to crush us this time...if they can. Look at PSU...those kids did nothing...the adults were at fault. If things play out badly, the adults and kids are at fault.....and we get crushed by the slow turning but deadly wheels of justice. If the penalties are as harsh as PSU....we will suffer for a long time. Hey we can always pull for UF or FSU....LOL

4-Real

Damn Tony, u want us to killed don't u?

USAFCane

even with Allen, if there is no proof as in no former canes to confirm what he and Shapiro say, where can it go? Players already suspended, self imposed ban, no former players talking?

orange 'n green in the vein

Yeah, if Drunk Dork Allen sought Manny out, he's basically got his hands tied at that point, write the story or get fired and Manny's got a family to provide for so I'd say let Manny get a pass.

USAFCane

The MH read on this Allen isn't pretty. those of you who don't want AG, read that and try and figure out who we could possibly get with this all looming. Wish this thing was done, the longer it goes, the worse it will be IMO.

Montreal-Cane

The letter of allegations from the NCAA should be sent to UM this month according to Manny.

I just received an email from Manny Navarro explaining why he published his Pee Wee story earlier today...to be fair with him i will post here his explaination...

From Manny Navarro:

I have nothing to do with the timing of this article. Because of its length it would have had to run on a Sunday because that is the biggest paper of the week (sheer size). Whether it was this Sunday or two Sundays ago or two Sundays from now people would have been upset with the timing because it would have come after a Canes game regardless.

Second, Sean Allen sought The Herald out -- particularly me. He came to our editors to tell his side of the story and said he would only speak with me. So, essentially I had no choice but to become involved.

Lastly, what we reported is simply what Allen has already told NCAA investigators and what they are already aware of from his testimony and interviews. We wrote this story to share with our readers what that was and to give them a better understanding of what UM is up against before the NCAA sends them it's letter of allegations which will likely happen this month. It honestly doesn't look good for UM at all.

Again, as one of the team's beat writers it wasn't easy for me to get involved with this story because I know the perception it would create. I certainly didn't get involved with this story by choice. It chose me and I fulfilled my duty as a journalist for The Herald. I hope somehow you and other Canes fans can understand that and look back to my track record instead of just this story.

WWIN

Laquinton, sorry to hear about your cousin, I'll pray for you and your family

WWIN

DJ,

We both totally agree on your last paragraph. Yes I think Vernon is a beast personally and was my LOF pick, but he didn't get to really play because of the suspension. So how can you miss guys that were not playing and guys who didn't produce?? How could we miss Lee Chambers, I guarantee you most of our fans forgot all about him. The offense lost the most productive players and is still doing better than the defense.

VA Cane

Tony,

if that happens, we will have to drop to Div 2....that is severe.....we will need to drop football. No recovery from those kind of snactions. You can bet that the NCAA is going to pounce...been waiting to do so.

dj moonbat

Out of all the names you mentioned, Jo Jo produced and Marcus Robinson produced just a little That is all. The rest were suspended, hurt, or might as well been suspended or hurt.

Posted by: Willie Will in Nashville | October 07, 2012 at 05:11 PM

Like I said, we can argue about who was and wasn't of any use (I think Olivier Vernon is missed, for instance, and you apparently don't), but the point is that if you lose 11 guys from the 2-deep, it's going to hurt, EVEN IF THOSE GUYS WEREN'T THAT GOOD.

But again: we STILL shouldn't be this bad. No matter what. The U's recruiting is good enough that there is simply no reason for us to field the worst defense in the nation. And after giving up almost 600 to the sixth-worst offense in the nation, I feel confident saying that yes, UM's is as bad a defense as there is in the nation.

LB

Our Coastal opponents:

Duke. Good record. Really haven't played anyone yet. Stanford whipped them. Solid in the air and solid scoring.

Virginia. A bad team. Gave up 19 points to Richmond, and a 3 game losing streak (including La. Tech). Another solid passing team, but that's it.

North Carolina. They score a lot. Shootouts could get messy.

Virginia Tech. Nowhere near what they were. They've only looked good vs. the MAC and Austin Peay. Vulnerable.

Florida State. Big, mean, nasty and overrated. Lost to someone we beat. It'll be a fight to the death.

South Florida. Their only wins come against Chattanoga and Nevada.

Our season is hardly over. As stated before, one more win vs. a Coastal opponent and the division is ours to lose. There are a lot of opportunities to win. I also think it's possible to win out.

I'm not crazy enough to believe that, though. But the ACC Coastal is definitely up for grabs. Beat NC.

Tonycane

If in fact the allegations are true here is what will happen:

5 year bowl ban. The self imposed stuff will be ignored by the NCAA.

5 year tv ban.

Loss of 15 schokarships a year, for 10 years.

Forfeiture of all bowl revenue from 2002 to 2010.

Forfeiture of all game revenue from 2002 to 2010.

Forfeiture of all wins between 2002 and 2010.

Jack

Manny -

Blah blah on that article!! Canes will rise, always have and always will!!!!

WWIN

The most important part of having a good defense is players have to buy in. They have to buy what the coaches are selling and believe in it 100%. So I ask, would you buy that sack of BS that D'no is selling??? Playing 10 yds off every play, 3 and 4 man rush when you say you don't have any pass rushers.

Our offense is just as young as our defense and how many good games have they played out of 18? How many good defensive games have we had out of 18, I think 1?

LB

Given the circumstances, Al Golden is absolutely overachieving.

D'Onofrio is underachieving, regardless.

In 7 games last year, the defense gave up over 20 points. 30 points? 2.

In 6 games this year, the defense has given up over 30 points in every game vs. a BCS eligible opponent. 40 points? Twice. And we're halfway through the season.

Granted, the rest of the schedule looks much better. I do think another victory in the Coastal makes it ours to lose.

But is there any reason to think, that even with the return of Perryman/Kirby, that this defense can dramatically reverse the trend? NC, FSU, Va. Tech, UVA, Duke, South Florida. Absolutely winnable games (especially with FSU's loss). But this defense may dramatically lower UM's ceiling.

D'Onofrio needs to go. It's not overreaction. I could care less. The stats do not lie.

WWIN

DJ,

D'No's defense, by contrast, lost Sean Spence, Ramon Buchanan, Micanor Regis, Marcus Robinson, Jordan Futch, Andrew Smith, Marcus Forston, Lee Chambers, Olivier Vernon, JoJo Nicolas, and Ray-Ray Armstrong. Obviously, only Denzel Perryman, Deon Bush, and Anthony Chickillo have made any plays at all, so none of that defensive production has been replaced.

Out of all the names you mentioned, Jo Jo produced and Marcus Robinson produced just a little That is all. The rest were suspended, hurt, or might as well been suspended or hurt.

"But when you smack a team so many times in the mouth, eventually they're going to want to stop playing, and that's what happened today."

Originally attributed to Mike Tyson...this would piss me off. Stop playing? A guy saying that...not that he was wrong....it would piss me off as a defender that I let that happen....you do not get punched in the mouth where I come from or stop playing...on D it cannot happen. I would cut that out and remember it next time I played...ie this week vs NC....and especially next year vs ND...I give ND a lot of credit, they came to play...but I do not like them...much less they punch me in the mouth and say it....You have to have some pride as a player....and coaching needs to reinforce it....let them know they got punched...and that it cannot happen....I call it passion from player and coach....got to have it...J God that makes ME mad....up here now...a guy say we stopped playing...unaccpetable X 10....JMO

"They were all upbeat and jumping and all that stuff in the beginning," Wood said of Miami, which held the Irish to 28 rushing yards in the first quarter.

"But when you smack a team so many times in the mouth, eventually they're going to want to stop playing, and that's what happened today."

War of attrition only gets your side killed, even when it works you end up undefeated and in second place at the end of the year with a pederast for a DC. That's who they are.

Old Skool

Hmmm I wonder if its the same when a football team loses. There's certainly a lot of anger here.

When the scientists analyzed the testosterone in the saliva generated by all that gum chewing, they noted a dramatic pattern: men who had voted for the losing presidential candidate, John McCain, suffered a big drop in their testosterone after hearing of his defeat.

The scientists reported that the male McCain voters “felt significantly more controlled, submissive, unhappy and unpleasant.” The testosterone effect was “as if they directly engaged head-to-head in a contest for dominance” and lost, one researcher told a reporter when the study was published in 2009. The men who voted for Obama fared better.

Politicians mining the gender gap should pay close attention to the study. Women had no change in testosterone levels, regardless of whom they voted for.

Here's where the info came from

Now, now, 4-Real, Golden's momma told him to wear that tie on the sidelines at Temple so something about his game-day presentation would look somewhat sharp since the team he was coaching wasn't going to fill that bill. You expect Al to tell his mom to go saw? He can't even do that to his old college roommate, how's he going to do that to his mom?

God bless you and your LQ sorry to here that...hope things will go well for the family.

Except 4 Earl Moore go check out most of the dt's offer list. It ain't about stars its about the offers u have. Ladaruis Gunter is from Alabama yet he had no offers from Auburn or Bama, not even Troy & UAB. What the hell did Golden see that Saban & Chizick didn't see? Just sayin its time 4 Golden 2 stop believing his own hype that he can develop a bunch of $55 kids into AA's & get off his flat can & start recruiting some real ballerz! And take that goofy azz tie off 4 the sake of gettin camera time. Dude aint nuthin but a novelty act right now. Thru venting family, enjoy the rest of ur day.

VA Cane

EJ44 looked pretty good. The way I see it, we are in a read and react D....but the problem is how passive it is. I like Read and React...but you have to havr gap resposibilities and job assignemtns with that. I want to be on the ball, in your face and blasting you from the start. I was taught, and have taught for 35 years that you take it to them, you be the instigator you pull the trigger your are the hammer. I felt the D was the nail..Ouch. I would rather lose a game going after people...beating their AZZ for 60....thatn sit back and get my AZZ pounded!!!! JMO When you are passive, you get more people in space, and when you have to make a play, its like Whats my Line?....so you hesitate more....and either get blasted...or they are off to the races. A back has to be turned inside....they were not going to throw....so the corners first job is contain, turn it to the pursuit....stay home and do your job. LBs are critical as they are the pursuit from in to out...turn the back....and then the LB Tatumizes him.....at least the way I do it. EJ44 is not so big, but he is tough. You cannot have LBs standing and reading only to take on a TE or FB....with a 8 yard head of steam. Very tough to do.

LaQuinton

I read all the comments and I believe that most of the fire D'NO, kids didnt come to play and Fire Golen ?? are alll too soon.

I watched the game twice now. And I just dont see proper execution and/or players focusing. This is how ND was 3 years ago.. Miami is. This is a young team. Dorsett who is a good player just didnt bring IT yesterday. Still no pass rush, the DLINE coach was the DL coach at USC in 04-05 and they were good. This Miami DL no pass rush.. NO push.. TE's were non existent and The Total D was just lost at times. As most said this team makes average QB's look all world. Gionni is what Gaines was last year. KIrby looked good honestly. Perryman and E.Johnson too. Getting blown out was a darkside nobody thought would happen because the 2 previous weeks we faced a very good team. Miami is 3-0 in conference play. IDC about yesterday the game is over. Is miami back no. But they are a good team. Just young. I dont care about Mannys article because what Mr.Allen said..he is telling the trust NCAA will hammer Miami and we cant do anything about it. GO Canes and thanks guys. My cousin was a good man.. just had a kid too sucks but life

Al

Bring Butch Back. Fly that over SLS.

dj, they do that because if they make a play like Luther did against BC and don't follow the scheme, it makes D'No look bad (not possible to make the worst of all time look worse but hey, he got a PSU education so logic and morality are probably lacking from his skull) and that's a bench-able offense at UM now.

86, I just paid for my UNC tickets so I'll be at this game Saturday cheering for an ACC division title that no one should care about, especially me.

So drop me a line and let me know what's going down re: tailgating because at NCST I only downed six beers in an hour and a half and I'm thinking I can't let some 80's kicker show me up two home games in a row, can I?

Oh, and fire D'No a year and a half ago. Almost forgot that crucial part.

dj moonbat

We have to get up on that ball, keep our heads up, be responsible for your assignment, use our hands, shed blocks and HIT somebody on D. This film should throw down a challenge to do better.

Posted by: VA Cane | October 07, 2012 at 02:07 PM

So many times last night, I would cringe while a defensive player would get a free path to the ballcarrier, and just sort of FREEZE, as if thinking, "OK, what's my assignment?" as he watched the guy run past.

VA Cane

My buddy from Chi town went, said UM came out hot, made many mistakes....fell apart and got run.

VA Cane

Soup, glad to see you are alive and well....thought you might have really tied one on..it would have been easy to do as we looked bad.

VA Cane

After all is said and done, we got to regroup, stop snivelling, stop the excuses...players, coaches, fans....and focus on UNC. AG, staff and players need to watch thefilm, and feel the pain. There are many lessons in the film, though painful, they can learn from them. We have to get up on that ball, keep our heads up, be responsible for your assignment, use our hands, shed blocks and HIT somebody on D. This film should throw down a challenge to do better.

We won yesterday morning crushed them in second half. I pulled starters after 1st series of third, we win 41-0. We move to 5-0, work hard this week...I like to pretend we are 0-5, and have to get better.

thanks for the update read th article. I say NCAA comes down hard. I think in the next few years, the CFB scene is going to change. The Big boys with the big budgets, coaches etc will be in D1 or top level. You will have II and III, I still call them that. We have a program that is going to be hammered, a small private school, no on campus stadium, and the school is tops in academics. It will be D2 time for the U. The academics are why the school is there, so maybe we take the NCAA pill, really look at where we are now, see the complete collapse that started with Fiesta Bowl....and accept our fate. It is food for thought!!

dj moonbat

Fisch's scheme and playcalling aren't lighting college football on fire (at least, not consistently). But they are functioning, and occasionally functioning quite well.

That's on an offense that lost its starting QB, starting TB, Streeter and Benjamin. That is to say: pretty much all of the yardage and scoring, gone. But replaced, more or less, with Morris, Dorsett/Scott/Davon Johnson, and Duke Johnson.

We can argue a lot about the value of any one of those individuals who is gone from the defense. But that's a LOT of names on that list.

So it's hardly surprising that the defense is bad.

Still, it shouldn't be THIS bad. Something has to change. As some have noted, immediately firing D'Onofrio probably will not all-of-a-sudden make this awful defense good. But at least it will send a message that when things are this bad, there will be accountability not just for players, but for the coaches as well.

4-Real

Randy Shannon is the reason we won't get the death penalty Al! Randy couldn't stand that snake Shapiro but was ordered 2 leave that punk alone by yours truly....Shalala & Hocutt, aka Bonnie & Clyde lol

Al

Shalala's shit has hit the fan. We all know she doesn't give a peanut about winning on the field. It's all academics for her, so she just wants cheap coaches and a cheap AD to keep the program clean. Now let's look at the results.
1) Coker, blaming his assistants. (Look at where they are now and where Coker is. I only wish he had them back.)
2) Randy. (No need to elaborate on his coaching. He got us in deep trouble for nothing. If you are going to do this shiat at least win. Ex. USC)
3) Golden. (Team is going in reverse. We suck and I don't see the light in the end.)
4) Two AD who did nothing. Nada. Zip. Gone for jobs which pay higher than minimum wage.
5) We are in deep shit with a bad team just waiting to get spanked.

I think it's time to take a closer look at Shalala. Since she has been around, it's all going down the drain.

4-Real

Speaking of win, lose or tie brown recluse, I personally think Golden should LOSE THAT STUPID AZZ TIE !!

The Brown Recluse

On the bright side...Canes lost to 2 teams that are in the Top 10.
Unfortunately they were crushed by said Top 10 teams....
Canes are not back, and a lot of you were proclaiming that after the NC State win. With that being said, 8-4 is possible but stop counting UNC as a win already.
This defense is a liability. The defense is worse than I have seen in 10 years. Fire No'D now, and bring in a hungry young assistant from the NFL. I foresee at least 2 more blowouts to FSU and Vagina Tech, even though those squads are completely beatable.
These young Canes are just as good or better than players on any other team, but their is a culture of underachievement at the U for some reason. Canes are going in the right direction, but the road is all uphill and filled with haters.
Keep Golden, fire his buddy No'D, forgive Dorsett, go to the home games, and win, lose, or tie...it's all about the U!!!

4-Real says, "Our athletics are going down the tubes . . . "

Ain't that the truth. And it's not just football.
The FB program is supposed to generate excess revenue for the athletics department, kinda like a rising tide that raises all ships. But when the tide goes out, the ships go down. Regrettably, that's what's happening at the U. The tide ain't so high anymore.

Account Deleted

Our chances to win the ACC will last about one more game. Another defensive gem like the last few and we'll be trashed by NC next week. With FSU up next we'll be 4-4....

NCAA stats - of 120 teams we're

118 on total defense
116 on rushing defense
101 on scoring defense

and guess we wore them out, cause we're only 91st in passing defense (why throw when you can run)

Wasn't easy to get this bad....or was it???

We are 118 our of 120 in CFB. No excuses, results, you are brought to Miami for results and the fact is after 18 games we have went backward. A huge improvement would only bring us to the middle of the pack. Miami is traditionally a elite defense. Kids come to Miami to play aggressive not sit back and get ran over. Talk about talent, strength etc etc, results are what matters. There are plenty of teams with far less that get far more.

mi@mic@ne

Who cares about the administration... they have nothing to do with what happens on the field. If we win it wont be because we have a good president or ad..it will be because we are successful on the field. Your always gonna think the college elites are worthless. As a football guy. lol

Thats why they beat us like a drum with that quick pitch because we never challenged them in bringing up a guy outside our d end.

You keep making relevant points like that through the Socratic method 4-Real and the CEO is going to end up owing YOU $75 to blog here instead of the other way around soon!

If the Al Golden press conference after a big loss isn't entertaining the fans anymore, then the sh!t has officially hit the fan because that's his bread and butter and that's basically this programs ceiling with him in charge until he gets a philosophical realignment of football beliefs of the highest level.

Also, isn't Al a follower of the 'one, true faith?' Reason for him to sign off on yet another worthless defensive game plan or just Al being Al again this week?

Time to see if I can't talk the significant other into going down to watch UNC set offensive records on Saturday in a soul crushing win, their defense will take away the running game and their offense won't give the ball back so it's going to be a long Saturday with 9000 in the stands, at least tickets are under $25 a piece though on the secondary market.

mi@mic@ne

Its a disadvantage to line up in the shot gun if the defense is good at lining up on the line of scrimmage and rushing from the outside in. Like the old bears defense. But we do not even want to appear that we have 9 guys lined up across the line of scrimmage. Thats how you control what they call. lol What kills that miss direction or option from the shot gun is outside pressure. But we got guys coming up from the secondary at the last second when its too late and they are lose 3 seconds of rush time.

4-Real

Our athletics are going down the tubes, our medical school is losing money like crazy and we bout to get hit by sanctions while looking 4 another A.D. Yep, this has Randy Shannon written all over it lol

dg

Sarosta Cane..did not miss the last game at the O'bowl. We are talking about a d coordinator that doesn't seem to be able to make any adjustments and 500 yd/game is the norm. If u r saying the same crap would fly under RS, you are delusional. We would be blitzing every damn down! Every team doesn't look good against this guys defense--they look ALL WORLD. What if we played a truly great offensive team--Oregon. They may put up 1000yds in one damn game. I can't blame the kids.I dare say NONE have ever played 10-20 yards off the ball...they are probably like WTF.

Jiggafras

Listening to some of you make excuses for No'D is just beyond thinking. Some say this is what they expected...really, some say we have no talent, some say give it time on and on. If you ask anyone on this board how many expected our defense to play like Alabama....not one single person would say they expected that. But did anyone expect us to be the worse defense in College Football?!!!!, we are the worst in the country and the worst ever put out by this institution. And what's worse, Golden, whom i really like comes out and says this is a team of no excuses but he trotts out after the game lay excuses and blame on the players and can't even find himself able to mention the defensive side of the ball. Is there any wonder why we are playing infront of empty stadiums? If it is all about experience and nothing top do with our dumb coaching. Start Luther Robinson, The Plug, Greene and Chickillo on the DL, start Gaines and Perryman at LB, Start Brandon McGee, Finnie, Gunter, Highsmith, Telemaque in the secondary. There are 3 SO with experience and nothing but Jrs and Srs i just named. This whole idea that all we have a FR and SO playing was cooked up in the spring by Golden and No'D. Its a big lie to take the heat off the scheme that No'D is running. Run a fucking 46 and let them throw the ball. The guy is a FR QB and once again he had his best game against us. Does anyone have any doubts about what Renner will do to us Saturday? Over under 600 yards?

This problem is seen when we judge the new philosophy with the old one. Its a simple difference in the kind of players that ND recruits because they are in a different area and the kind UM recruits. It was obvious that ND was a slower team but very disciplined. As I said before the way to beat a stronger and bigger team that is slower is to create space and be successful on the perimeter. Well look at the first two shots we had with Dorsett... it was obvious that we had an advantage since he had run by their secondary... the problem was that we did not catch 80 percent of the balls that Steven threw.
When they got ahead they were able to play more prevent defense. It was safe to do in the second half. Because we did not catch the ball they did not respect us and they shut our running game down.

On the d side of the ball we have the same situation as Weiss. Just because you know the latest schemes in the NFL doesnt mean that its gonna translate into success in college ball. Its obvious why we were successful in the 80s running a defense where the linemen as a general observation were quicker than our opponents .. by their quickness would shoot the gaps to get the first advantage against a much slower but stronger offensive line. But now we are being pushed around because we are not allowed to penetrate into the gaps but we are taught to meet their linemen head on. And so you see us getting pushed around like a high school team.

We still can win the ACC Coastal this year.
Let's seal the deal by crushing NC on Saturday.

They're mad because Manny wrote a scathing article about the UM/Shapiro scandal. Our worst fears have been realized. The NCAA can tie all the allegations together through an $ 8.00/hr equipment manager at UM!
Manny would lose his job for NOT writing that article! We're so screwed it defies comprehension! Joe Paterno is embarrassed for us!

Grrrrrrrrr 'canes!

LOL! Nice one CGNC.

4-Real

The last game @ the orange bowl was during Randy Shannon's first year of his 1st ever head coaching job correct?

DallasTX Cane

Yeah, CGNC I know. We've been getting crushed for so long now it takes the wind out of the sail. I wanted a win last night so badly...grew up around a bunch of ND fans, but always rooted against them. Loved beating them in the 80's. Last night was such a huge disappointment.

I'm not buying into the adjustments thing tho. In the 1st half, we had our chances on O but flubbed them. When ND scored to open Q3, we were down 20-3. Given that our D wasn't going to ever stop ND, that lead was pretty much insurmountable. ND only had to adjust to not give up a big play = basic prevent D really. Add in that they controlled the LOS on both sides and I don't think there was much in-game coaching that was going to help us.

IMO, the coaching change we need has to do with the D and it's not an in-game thing.

Last night, we needed to take advantage of all our opportunities, play mistake-free & get a little lucky. Instead, We dropped TD passes, held on a TD run, got a bad call after a great defensive series that led to a ND TD, and got no luck / help from ND mistakes. If we had been able to score a couple of early td's, it might have been a much different game. Kinda feels like groundhog day...I think I've said the same thing after every big game CANE loss over the past 8 years!

U r right tho...on to UNC. We can beat them! Gut check time.

Sarasota 'cane

I doubt the administration would bother to fire any of our coaches with the NCAA sanctions looming. It's time to stop pretending that the elephant in the room is not really there. Manny's article today is more than telling.
I said this last year and I'll say it again today, if you can't stand to watch this 'cane team with all it's faults, then you'll likely jump off cliff when the NCAA gets through with UM!
They're gonna gut Miami like a fish. What they did to USC will look like foreplay compared to our punishment.

Grrrrrrrr 'canes!

Can someone tell me what a couple of people were raising cain about in regards to Manny? I saw a couple serious comments, but did not see reason why. Please advise.

Alright good people, out for awhile. Enjoy the photo!

"Fire Al Golden"?

Seriously?? Get a clue...

No talent on d? Duke Syracuse and a directional Michigan school are in top 50 ranked defense...how many duke lb's are in nfl?
If d'no is trying to cover up weaknesses of our d by scheme....wouldn't it be smart to run a different scheme if its not working?
I'd rather lose being aggressive and blitzing than running the same shit and giving up 376 yards on the ground ...obvious the scheme isn't working......

CGNC

DTX- its not that we are losing to ranked teams, its that we are getting crushed and the way we are getting crushed. I was never one to think "we're back". Even if we had scored on every opp in the first half, they adjusted in the second.

Anyway on to NC Tar Heels. We can beat them

Kelly and Co made adjustments in the second half, and we, well..........

don't forget the Bearcats had an undefeated season the last year he was there. And yes he he has been there a little longer.

VACane - I live in Charlotte. I want to relocate back to South Florida and live in Jupiter Farms - that way the horse can be on the property :-D

DallasTX Cane

CoCane - a FG at that point makes it a 7 pt game going into 1/2. Basic football is to never leave points on the table. Yes, after watching the kick miss the upright by about 30 yards its an easy call to say go for it. However I think kicking it was the right call. The kick should've been made and then U would've been able to say that even after all the drops, penalties and missed opportunities; we' re only down by 1 td. Going for it there would've reeked of desperation.

If the players are going to give up after 1 1/2 of football because the HC decided to kick a FG, we got much bigger problems than scheme.

CGNC

Let's Go Canes - Tar the Heels

VA Cane

CG where are you in NC...my wifes people are from Henderson and Goldsboro....are you moving for a job....don't forget the horse....he will never forgive you!!!!

VA Cane

Raize DTX good points. I think many Canes fans get going around the curve, pick up speed and the cart gets ahead of the horse. Then you hit a bump...KSU, ND.....and we are pissed. I under stand that. Man, I hate losing in anything...I was racing at the grocery store this morning down the isles!!!! The offense had some bad spots as well...drops, got away from run heck we only scored 3...the D was bad. We are not Top 25 yet...and I can live with that. Why think you are back, when really you are not. Honestly, I expect we are right where we should be....bright spots, but a lot of haze in the air and on the horizion. These kids are good kids...I saw some frustration, embarassment, a little anger....but they fought on. These things are good in the long run of building blocks. Our foundation is still soft...the lines. The O is further along for sure. D line is not quick, sharp, aggressive....se do not shed blocks or use our hands well either. However, we cannot quit at this point...there will be more pain, but we push on...as a team...try to learn and improve...together. JMO

DallasTX Cane

CGNC - most would say turning Temple around was a harder task. And don't forget our HC has only been on the job for less than 2 seasons and 1 complete recruiting cycle. Kelly is a good coach, but he's also had more time at ND. Like someone else posted, UM is about where ND was 3 years ago. It wasn't that long ago that Navy beat ND.

Before the season every single one of us, well expect RCCF (the original 12%er!), would have taken a 4-2 start and undefeated in league play in a heartbeat. So, there's a lot to play for and this can still turn out to be a very good season.

The D HAS got to get better tho. I agree with the "sky is falling" crew on that one. Whatever the coaches are doing isn't working & must change.

Hey...when U move, will U drop the "NC"??

For all of RS' issues, HE WOULD HAVE NEVER LET THE D LOOK ANYWHERE CLOSE TO THIS SH!T! WHY EVEN PRACTICE???Everybody looks GREAT against the defense. Golden the answer, yeah right. He was a damn d coordinator under Al Groh--oops, that explains it

You obviously missed the last game at the Orange Bowl!

Again, you can talk about firing people all you want, but i do not know that will solve things. The scheme looked flawed, but so did the players. Who really came up and hit someone? Who whipped their guy on the line and blasted the QB? who stayed at home, and put a shoulder in Atkinson when he cut back? I saw scared little fellas, weak small kids cowering, arm tackling, horse collaring, fear of God deer in headlights effort, players jumping in front of ballcarriers at the goal line to make it look like they were there.....poor poor play. Really? those same guys will start for the big boys and be All Americans? they will be part of Sabans bunch? What I saw last night could play for my CQL team or the HS team I am helping.....and they are #1 in central VA very very good. One has to understand the difference between HS ball, offers and where you go in college. Make me an offer, I will take it. Does not mean I can or will play at the next level. Coaching is 1 side of the equation, effort and animosity, being willing to unmercifully punish your opponent as a player is another side. Neither side functioned last night. It takes both; we need to see that one hand washes the other....lots of dirty hands last night. JMO
