Shalala's shit has hit the fan. We all know she doesn't give a peanut about winning on the field. It's all academics for her, so she just wants cheap coaches and a cheap AD to keep the program clean. Now let's look at the results.
1) Coker, blaming his assistants. (Look at where they are now and where Coker is. I only wish he had them back.)
2) Randy. (No need to elaborate on his coaching. He got us in deep trouble for nothing. If you are going to do this shiat at least win. Ex. USC)
3) Golden. (Team is going in reverse. We suck and I don't see the light in the end.)
4) Two AD who did nothing. Nada. Zip. Gone for jobs which pay higher than minimum wage.
5) We are in deep shit with a bad team just waiting to get spanked.

I think it's time to take a closer look at Shalala. Since she has been around, it's all going down the drain.

4-Real

Randy Shannon is the reason we won't get the death penalty Al! Randy couldn't stand that snake Shapiro but was ordered 2 leave that punk alone by yours truly....Shalala & Hocutt, aka Bonnie & Clyde lol

Fisch's scheme and playcalling aren't lighting college football on fire (at least, not consistently). But they are functioning, and occasionally functioning quite well.

That's on an offense that lost its starting QB, starting TB, Streeter and Benjamin. That is to say: pretty much all of the yardage and scoring, gone. But replaced, more or less, with Morris, Dorsett/Scott/Davon Johnson, and Duke Johnson.

D'No's defense, by contrast, lost Sean Spence, Ramon Buchanan, Micanor Regis, Marcus Robinson, Jordan Futch, Andrew Smith, Marcus Forston, Lee Chambers, Olivier Vernon, JoJo Nicolas, and Ray-Ray Armstrong. Obviously, only Denzel Perryman, Deon Bush, and Anthony Chickillo have made any plays at all, so none of that defensive production has been replaced.

We can argue a lot about the value of any one of those individuals who is gone from the defense. But that's a LOT of names on that list.

So it's hardly surprising that the defense is bad.

Still, it shouldn't be THIS bad. Something has to change. As some have noted, immediately firing D'Onofrio probably will not all-of-a-sudden make this awful defense good. But at least it will send a message that when things are this bad, there will be accountability not just for players, but for the coaches as well.

VA Cane

thanks for the update read th article. I say NCAA comes down hard. I think in the next few years, the CFB scene is going to change. The Big boys with the big budgets, coaches etc will be in D1 or top level. You will have II and III, I still call them that. We have a program that is going to be hammered, a small private school, no on campus stadium, and the school is tops in academics. It will be D2 time for the U. The academics are why the school is there, so maybe we take the NCAA pill, really look at where we are now, see the complete collapse that started with Fiesta Bowl....and accept our fate. It is food for thought!!

After all is said and done, we got to regroup, stop snivelling, stop the excuses...players, coaches, fans....and focus on UNC. AG, staff and players need to watch thefilm, and feel the pain. There are many lessons in the film, though painful, they can learn from them. We have to get up on that ball, keep our heads up, be responsible for your assignment, use our hands, shed blocks and HIT somebody on D. This film should throw down a challenge to do better.

We won yesterday morning crushed them in second half. I pulled starters after 1st series of third, we win 41-0. We move to 5-0, work hard this week...I like to pretend we are 0-5, and have to get better.

VA Cane

Soup, glad to see you are alive and well....thought you might have really tied one on..it would have been easy to do as we looked bad.

VA Cane

My buddy from Chi town went, said UM came out hot, made many mistakes....fell apart and got run.

So many times last night, I would cringe while a defensive player would get a free path to the ballcarrier, and just sort of FREEZE, as if thinking, "OK, what's my assignment?" as he watched the guy run past.

86, I just paid for my UNC tickets so I'll be at this game Saturday cheering for an ACC division title that no one should care about, especially me.

So drop me a line and let me know what's going down re: tailgating because at NCST I only downed six beers in an hour and a half and I'm thinking I can't let some 80's kicker show me up two home games in a row, can I?

Oh, and fire D'No a year and a half ago. Almost forgot that crucial part.

orange 'n green in the vein

dj, they do that because if they make a play like Luther did against BC and don't follow the scheme, it makes D'No look bad (not possible to make the worst of all time look worse but hey, he got a PSU education so logic and morality are probably lacking from his skull) and that's a bench-able offense at UM now.

Any chance we see a plane flying over SLS this weekend with a banner ???

I read all the comments and I believe that most of the fire D'NO, kids didnt come to play and Fire Golen ?? are alll too soon.

I watched the game twice now. And I just dont see proper execution and/or players focusing. This is how ND was 3 years ago.. Miami is. This is a young team. Dorsett who is a good player just didnt bring IT yesterday. Still no pass rush, the DLINE coach was the DL coach at USC in 04-05 and they were good. This Miami DL no pass rush.. NO push.. TE's were non existent and The Total D was just lost at times. As most said this team makes average QB's look all world. Gionni is what Gaines was last year. KIrby looked good honestly. Perryman and E.Johnson too. Getting blown out was a darkside nobody thought would happen because the 2 previous weeks we faced a very good team. Miami is 3-0 in conference play. IDC about yesterday the game is over. Is miami back no. But they are a good team. Just young. I dont care about Mannys article because what Mr.Allen said..he is telling the trust NCAA will hammer Miami and we cant do anything about it. GO Canes and thanks guys. My cousin was a good man.. just had a kid too sucks but life

VA Cane

EJ44 looked pretty good. The way I see it, we are in a read and react D....but the problem is how passive it is. I like Read and React...but you have to havr gap resposibilities and job assignemtns with that. I want to be on the ball, in your face and blasting you from the start. I was taught, and have taught for 35 years that you take it to them, you be the instigator you pull the trigger your are the hammer. I felt the D was the nail..Ouch. I would rather lose a game going after people...beating their AZZ for 60....thatn sit back and get my AZZ pounded!!!! JMO When you are passive, you get more people in space, and when you have to make a play, its like Whats my Line?....so you hesitate more....and either get blasted...or they are off to the races. A back has to be turned inside....they were not going to throw....so the corners first job is contain, turn it to the pursuit....stay home and do your job. LBs are critical as they are the pursuit from in to out...turn the back....and then the LB Tatumizes him.....at least the way I do it. EJ44 is not so big, but he is tough. You cannot have LBs standing and reading only to take on a TE or FB....with a 8 yard head of steam. Very tough to do.

Except 4 Earl Moore go check out most of the dt's offer list. It ain't about stars its about the offers u have. Ladaruis Gunter is from Alabama yet he had no offers from Auburn or Bama, not even Troy & UAB. What the hell did Golden see that Saban & Chizick didn't see? Just sayin its time 4 Golden 2 stop believing his own hype that he can develop a bunch of $55 kids into AA's & get off his flat can & start recruiting some real ballerz! And take that goofy azz tie off 4 the sake of gettin camera time. Dude aint nuthin but a novelty act right now. Thru venting family, enjoy the rest of ur day.

Now, now, 4-Real, Golden's momma told him to wear that tie on the sidelines at Temple so something about his game-day presentation would look somewhat sharp since the team he was coaching wasn't going to fill that bill. You expect Al to tell his mom to go saw? He can't even do that to his old college roommate, how's he going to do that to his mom?

Hmmm I wonder if its the same when a football team loses. There's certainly a lot of anger here.

When the scientists analyzed the testosterone in the saliva generated by all that gum chewing, they noted a dramatic pattern: men who had voted for the losing presidential candidate, John McCain, suffered a big drop in their testosterone after hearing of his defeat.

The scientists reported that the male McCain voters “felt significantly more controlled, submissive, unhappy and unpleasant.” The testosterone effect was “as if they directly engaged head-to-head in a contest for dominance” and lost, one researcher told a reporter when the study was published in 2009. The men who voted for Obama fared better.

Politicians mining the gender gap should pay close attention to the study. Women had no change in testosterone levels, regardless of whom they voted for.

Here's where the info came from

"They were all upbeat and jumping and all that stuff in the beginning," Wood said of Miami, which held the Irish to 28 rushing yards in the first quarter.

"But when you smack a team so many times in the mouth, eventually they're going to want to stop playing, and that's what happened today."

War of attrition only gets your side killed, even when it works you end up undefeated and in second place at the end of the year with a pederast for a DC. That's who they are.

"But when you smack a team so many times in the mouth, eventually they're going to want to stop playing, and that's what happened today."

Originally attributed to Mike Tyson...this would piss me off. Stop playing? A guy saying that...not that he was wrong....it would piss me off as a defender that I let that happen....you do not get punched in the mouth where I come from or stop playing...on D it cannot happen. I would cut that out and remember it next time I played...ie this week vs NC....and especially next year vs ND...I give ND a lot of credit, they came to play...but I do not like them...much less they punch me in the mouth and say it....You have to have some pride as a player....and coaching needs to reinforce it....let them know they got punched...and that it cannot happen....I call it passion from player and coach....got to have it...J God that makes ME mad....up here now...a guy say we stopped playing...unaccpetable X 10....JMO

DJ,

Obviously, only Denzel Perryman, Deon Bush, and Anthony Chickillo have made any plays at all, so none of that defensive production has been replaced.

Out of all the names you mentioned, Jo Jo produced and Marcus Robinson produced just a little That is all. The rest were suspended, hurt, or might as well been suspended or hurt.

LB

Given the circumstances, Al Golden is absolutely overachieving.

D'Onofrio is underachieving, regardless.

In 7 games last year, the defense gave up over 20 points. 30 points? 2.

In 6 games this year, the defense has given up over 30 points in every game vs. a BCS eligible opponent. 40 points? Twice. And we're halfway through the season.

Granted, the rest of the schedule looks much better. I do think another victory in the Coastal makes it ours to lose.

But is there any reason to think, that even with the return of Perryman/Kirby, that this defense can dramatically reverse the trend? NC, FSU, Va. Tech, UVA, Duke, South Florida. Absolutely winnable games (especially with FSU's loss). But this defense may dramatically lower UM's ceiling.

D'Onofrio needs to go. It's not overreaction. I could care less. The stats do not lie.

WWIN

The most important part of having a good defense is players have to buy in. They have to buy what the coaches are selling and believe in it 100%. So I ask, would you buy that sack of BS that D'no is selling??? Playing 10 yds off every play, 3 and 4 man rush when you say you don't have any pass rushers.

Our offense is just as young as our defense and how many good games have they played out of 18? How many good defensive games have we had out of 18, I think 1?

Jack

Manny -

Blah blah on that article!! Canes will rise, always have and always will!!!!

If in fact the allegations are true here is what will happen:

5 year bowl ban. The self imposed stuff will be ignored by the NCAA.

5 year tv ban.

Loss of 15 schokarships a year, for 10 years.

Forfeiture of all bowl revenue from 2002 to 2010.

Forfeiture of all game revenue from 2002 to 2010.

Forfeiture of all wins between 2002 and 2010.

LB

Our Coastal opponents:

Duke. Good record. Really haven't played anyone yet. Stanford whipped them. Solid in the air and solid scoring.

Virginia. A bad team. Gave up 19 points to Richmond, and a 3 game losing streak (including La. Tech). Another solid passing team, but that's it.

North Carolina. They score a lot. Shootouts could get messy.

Virginia Tech. Nowhere near what they were. They've only looked good vs. the MAC and Austin Peay. Vulnerable.

Florida State. Big, mean, nasty and overrated. Lost to someone we beat. It'll be a fight to the death.

South Florida. Their only wins come against Chattanoga and Nevada.

Our season is hardly over. As stated before, one more win vs. a Coastal opponent and the division is ours to lose. There are a lot of opportunities to win. I also think it's possible to win out.

I'm not crazy enough to believe that, though. But the ACC Coastal is definitely up for grabs. Beat NC.

Like I said, we can argue about who was and wasn't of any use (I think Olivier Vernon is missed, for instance, and you apparently don't), but the point is that if you lose 11 guys from the 2-deep, it's going to hurt, EVEN IF THOSE GUYS WEREN'T THAT GOOD.

But again: we STILL shouldn't be this bad. No matter what. The U's recruiting is good enough that there is simply no reason for us to field the worst defense in the nation. And after giving up almost 600 to the sixth-worst offense in the nation, I feel confident saying that yes, UM's is as bad a defense as there is in the nation.

VA Cane

Tony,

if that happens, we will have to drop to Div 2....that is severe.....we will need to drop football. No recovery from those kind of snactions. You can bet that the NCAA is going to pounce...been waiting to do so.

WWIN

DJ,

We both totally agree on your last paragraph. Yes I think Vernon is a beast personally and was my LOF pick, but he didn't get to really play because of the suspension. So how can you miss guys that were not playing and guys who didn't produce?? How could we miss Lee Chambers, I guarantee you most of our fans forgot all about him. The offense lost the most productive players and is still doing better than the defense.

WWIN

Laquinton, sorry to hear about your cousin, I'll pray for you and your family

The letter of allegations from the NCAA should be sent to UM this month according to Manny.

I just received an email from Manny Navarro explaining why he published his Pee Wee story earlier today...to be fair with him i will post here his explaination...

From Manny Navarro:

I have nothing to do with the timing of this article. Because of its length it would have had to run on a Sunday because that is the biggest paper of the week (sheer size). Whether it was this Sunday or two Sundays ago or two Sundays from now people would have been upset with the timing because it would have come after a Canes game regardless.

Second, Sean Allen sought The Herald out -- particularly me. He came to our editors to tell his side of the story and said he would only speak with me. So, essentially I had no choice but to become involved.

Lastly, what we reported is simply what Allen has already told NCAA investigators and what they are already aware of from his testimony and interviews. We wrote this story to share with our readers what that was and to give them a better understanding of what UM is up against before the NCAA sends them it's letter of allegations which will likely happen this month. It honestly doesn't look good for UM at all.

Again, as one of the team's beat writers it wasn't easy for me to get involved with this story because I know the perception it would create. I certainly didn't get involved with this story by choice. It chose me and I fulfilled my duty as a journalist for The Herald. I hope somehow you and other Canes fans can understand that and look back to my track record instead of just this story.

USAFCane

The MH read on this Allen isn't pretty. those of you who don't want AG, read that and try and figure out who we could possibly get with this all looming. Wish this thing was done, the longer it goes, the worse it will be IMO.

orange 'n green in the vein

Yeah, if Drunk Dork Allen sought Manny out, he's basically got his hands tied at that point, write the story or get fired and Manny's got a family to provide for so I'd say let Manny get a pass.

USAFCane

even with Allen, if there is no proof as in no former canes to confirm what he and Shapiro say, where can it go? Players already suspended, self imposed ban, no former players talking?

4-Real

Damn Tony, u want us to killed don't u?

VA Cane

I think the NCAA is like a mountain lion, laying in wait, ready to pounce. We got in trouble before, and it looks like we have been doing bad stuff since...at least in the NCAA thought process. They will do all they can do to crush us this time...if they can. Look at PSU...those kids did nothing...the adults were at fault. If things play out badly, the adults and kids are at fault.....and we get crushed by the slow turning but deadly wheels of justice. If the penalties are as harsh as PSU....we will suffer for a long time. Hey we can always pull for UF or FSU....LOL

4-Real

Let's not 4get that Manny is a Fiu grad. He could care less bout tha boyz.

VA Cane

No harm no foul on Mandingo....he has a job to do, and is reporting facts after the fact that the NCAA already has this info. He is a great guy!!! We need to focus on UNC and playing fundemental football....especially D.

Tonycane

I fear that the reason that Norte dame is essentially in as a 15th member, besides the obvious is that miami's long term future as a viable CBS football program is in doubt. A death penalty or the type of sanctions I spoke of earlier would force the acc to drop Miami, or for shalala to either suspend the program or drop it down to 1aa status.

SinisterCane

All this was allowed to go on by UM top brass, so who will be the first to resign?
