If you have been all caught up in the excitement of college football recently and haven't been paying attention to any of the other University of Miami athletic teams then there is something that you need to know:
There is a very positive vibe and a really strong buzz around the 2012-13 UM men's basketball team.
In fact the Miami Hurricanes hoopsters are setting their sites on taking that next BIG step - seriously challenging for the ACC title and earning a trip to the NCAA tournament.
With six seniors and four juniors returning from a 20-win season, including a road win against Duke, this team may have the best combination of experience, talent, and depth in the ACC.
Coach Jim Larranaga, who led George Mason to the NCAA Final Four before arriving at Miami, was the first coach in Miami history to lead a Hurricanes team to 20 wins in his first season.
Strength of Schedule: Wins over Top-25 ranked opponents are a major factor toward earning an NCAA at-large bid. The Hurricanes will have those opportunities when they host perennial Top 25 ranked teams like Michigan State, Florida State, Duke, and North Carolina this season.
You are cordially invited to check out the Canes free of charge when they face Saint Leo University in an exhibition game next Friday November 2 at 7:00 p.m. The game will also serve as a “Select-A-Seat Night”, and our friendly sales associates will be on hand to assist you in determining your preferred seat location. We have a number of very exciting ticket packages to offer you this season.
Season Tickets start as low as $99 and several "Mini-Packs" are also available:
The FAN-tastic Four Pack: $250 for a premium seat for our games against Michigan State – Duke - Florida State - North Carolina.
The ACC Weekend Pack: Starting as low as $63 for our games against Maryland - Florida State - North Carolina - Clemson.
Floor Seats and Suites: Still available in limited quantities.
You will not want to miss a moment of the exciting college basketball action.

The herald and almost any new org can post anonymous sources but Tom's blog requires a source.....
Posted by: Hassan | October 26, 2012 at 11:25 PM
I just love your thinking and rationale on this one. Since everyone else can be rumor mongers and post unsubstantiated rumors then we should do it too? More than that since we are just a blog and not a news org then we should do it even more, right?
Posting unfounded and irresponsible rumors just because U heard it "somewhere" is part of the problem NOT part of the solution.
Saying "WE are hearing rumors that the NCAA will come down in November and the ACC wants us to self impose aban from the ACC championship game" is no more difficult than saying "ITU is reporting that" ...or "I saw someone at the Miami Herald is claiming that that..." or "CaneInsider is saying that a source told them that..."
Posted by: 86Cane | October 27, 2012 at 08:37 AM
Hassan...if U recall some of the people and pay sites that started some "rumors" before were 100% WRONG.
Remember that Gruden was signed with UM?
Remember that Seantrel was gone and enrolled at Minnesota?
Should I go on? Look if U shoot enough bullets U are bound to hit something sooner or later, but most times they are just shooting up in the air and hoping for a hit.

NEWS: New UM Canes depth chart for VaTech; RB E. Clements out for rest of season
Good morning.
First, the injury news: third-year junior tailback Eduardo Clements, one of the most devoted and hard-working Canes that I have come across, is out for the season with an
injury not yet disclosed to us. Feel so bad for him and the team.
In seven games this season, Eduardo had 16 carries for 70 yards and two touchdowns this season as the third-team tailback who is used primarily as a third-down specialist.
He also had two catches for 11 yards.
Eduardo also played on special teams, and had four tackles this season.
We're waiting for practice to end. Please note that the new depth chart only lists Mike James and Duke Johnson at running back -- not Dallas Crawford.

After his team's off week, Miami Hurricanes head coach Al Golden released his latest depth chart Saturday.
Most of the changes were to the No. 2 and No. 3 positions at various positions on the depth. The biggest omission, however, was that of junior RB Eduardo Clements, who is now out for the season due to injury.
Single-game tickets for the 2012 football season are available online, by phone at 1-800-GO-CANES (1-305-284-2263) or in-person at the Miami Athletics Ticket Office, now located on the first level at BankUnited Center. The popular "Publix $9 Before 9" is back for the Nov. 1 game vs. Virginia Tech, while fans can also purchase "The Joe Rose Special" - 2 lower-level tickets and orange parking for $80 - for the VT game.

When the GSR becomes part of the scoreboard let me know so I can jump from joy. For those who think we can win out, remember there is a difference between believing and hoping. I hope we win, but I believe what happened yesterday is happening now and the same will happen tomorrow. Yes, inconsistent play, bad defense, poor coaching, etc. We have done nothing to change this, so if you expect a different result while you do the same thing over and over, you are literally insane. DS I hope you are reading this. Looks like you don't give a dime for our football program. Time to redistribute the billion $$$$ you just got. The program needs better coaches and a thing with grass in it where you play football...some people call it a Stadium.
Posted by: Al | October 27, 2012 at 12:16 PM
Everybody who thinks Golden at Temple = 'MIRACLE,' take note. Larranaga at George Mason = 'miracle.'
Golden at Temple = good move to a weak conference for a program to have something to play for (and still not win).

Hmmmm, how ironic is it that Kacy Rodgers Dad, is teaching Olivier Vernon better technique than our D-Line coach:
“Kacy does as good a job as anybody in the league,” Coyle said, predicting Vernon “will be an impact guy from here on out.” Vernon said: “I’ve learned so much since leaving UM – using my hands way more now.”

Vernon's learning more because he listens and cares more. That's what dollar signs will do for you! He's no different than any other player that left here who was average in college and plays better in the pros.
Posted by: herbieibis | October 27, 2012 at 01:13 PM
The only average season in college Vernon had was the one he had to sit out half the year due to copping to the rat fink midget benefits then stepped into the worst coordinated defense in UM history until this year.
Jethro sucks, Vernon bolted before he got wasted in a dumb scheme asking him to get nuked at the line of scrimmage hand fighting with a guy who outweighed him by 60 pounds.
Posted by: orange 'n green in the vein | October 27, 2012 at 01:22 PM
Olivea Vernon should have stayed! He just may have been a 1st or 2nd rounder had he stayed. He was raw but athletic, we really miss him on D!
Posted by: Jack | October 27, 2012 at 01:39 PM
Olivier Vernon = average at UM
wow. dudes are auditioning for Chris Freet's job.
Our players are only motivated by dollar signs huh.
And that culture began where? With them?
Alright..
Ok..

Nah, He made the right decision in leaving. He's getting better coaching, He's productive, and, He's getting paid. So it's win, win, win.
Posted by: CaneRock | October 27, 2012 at 02:18 PM
That's right average. Was he all conferance while he was here? What did he do outstanding? Blaming Jethro is senceless. To be honest, we really haven't had a good dee-coordinator, since we made the misstake of hiring Dandy as head coach, once that occurred our dee has not been the same since.
Posted by: herbieibis | October 27, 2012 at 02:18 PM
RASHAWN SCOTT starting is one of the reason we won't see any progress with the offense, can't do the one simple thing "CATCH" but continues to start
99 Jelani Hamilton 6-5, 271, Fr. hopefully will move to DT, dude is big for a Fr.
Posted by: SinisterCane | October 27, 2012 at 02:27 PM
He blew by tackles with an outstanding first step that made him a feared speed rusher when he was 18 and 19 coming off a broken foot as a 17 year old.
Keeping toking the Temple strain and convincing yourself Lovett wasn't any good herb. You're making a lot of sence.

Zakkee, herb says he's average, so that doesn't count for anything. If he was such a great end at 18 he would have been named all conference at least right?

Billy Corben makes good documentaries. However, I can't stand listing to him on WQAM! Dude must be 4 foot tall, cause he has "little man syndrome". He is a loud mouth....
Posted by: Jack | October 27, 2012 at 03:13 PM
Canerock -
Vernon would be making a lot more $$ had he stayed another year. Plus if those juniors stayed and started to truly turn things around they would always be remembered for that. Instead L Miller, Streeter ,Vernon and company will be remembered for leaving prematurely. FYI coaching and player's are better in the NFL. NFL = The best of the best!!

New Info from Manny or at least info I didn't know ...
Third-string running back Eduardo Clements, who sustained an undisclosed season-ending knee injury against Florida State, was at practice Saturday to work as a coach with his teammates.
UM offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch said Clements, the team's third down specialist, was averaging about 12 offensive snaps a game. Fisch said those will now be split by senior Mike James and new third-string running back Dallas Crawford, who continues to work primarily as the scout team quarterback. Golden said that as of now he doesn't want to have to burn the redshirt of freshman running back Danny Dillard.
Posted by: Old Skool | October 27, 2012 at 04:28 PM
Out of all the juniors who left prematurely last year the running back position may be justified. They do have a short shelf life at the next level. The rest od rhe guys should have bounded together and stayed to be a part of something special. Just imagain if this youthful inexperience team makes it to the ACC championship game.
Posted by: Jack | October 27, 2012 at 04:37 PM
I'm glad we don't play Oregon... They had Colorado 56-0 at the half...
It would probably be 70-0 against D'Nos' defense at the half...

FSU pouring it on Duke 31-0 at halftime. FSU looks like to old FSU and Duke looks like the old Duke.
It appears that after today, the Canes will be tied for the Coastal Division lead.
Thursday's Canes game against Virgina Tech will be for the Coastal Division lead and probably the Coastal champtionship.
And the Canes WILL NOT forfeit the Coastal Division Champtionship and choose not to participate in the ACC Championship game.
My source - Logic and common sense!
If the Canes self impose anything (and I am not sure they will) it will be their bowl game.

The University of Miami women's basketball team will enter the 2012-13 season as the No. 24 team in the nation as announced by the Associated Press on Saturday. It is the second straight preseason ranking for the Canes after they entered the poll at No. 7 a year ago.
Saturday marks just the second time that the Canes have been ranked in the preseason poll.
"Our program has been so successful the last two years and although we have lost a lot to graduation, I am pleased that people recognize that we have some other players who have been working hard and have Miami pride," said head coach Katie Meier. "I feel like we have a big-time program here and sustained success is the final step in our growth."
Miami returns two All-ACC players in Stefanie Yderstrom and Morgan Stroman. Each was named to the conference's third team, Stroman in 2011 and Yderstrom in 2012.
UM also will see the addition of three freshmen that made up a signing class that ranked 19th according to ESPNU Hoop Gurlz.
Caprice Dennis (5-9, G, Detroit, Mich.), Keyona Hayes (6-1, F, Marietta, Ga.) and Macy Keen (6-6, C, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) will each look to make an immediate impact in their first collegiate season.
The Canes will face five teams that are ranked in the AP Top 25 poll, including No. 3 Duke, No. 5 Maryland, No. 8 Penn State, No. 20 Tennessee, and No. 22 Georgia Tech. Miami will play Duke and Georgia Tech two times each during the regular season.

Big windy
I think that if we don't forfeit the acccg the NCAA will make us pay for it. They want us to show them that we are willing to give up something big to receive less punishment. How would it look to the NCAA if we played in the acccg and then declined to play in a toilet bowl??? It shows them that we are trying to choose our punishments. If we take the forfeit it would be huge for our future
