Good fans showing. Put together a strong atmosphere for a couple of recruits. Love it.

Felipe

Also, please relegate Gaines to special teams only. Thx in advance.

86 I approve this post you outdid yourself on this one man.ork I was saying that last night well it will be rocking again on September 7, 2013 when the Floriduh Crocs come to Sun Life in Miami Gardens. Let's Go Canes beat Va. Tech.

REPOSTED FROM THE MH BLOG:

We had 26 First Down Play Calls (including the 4 first downs on the last Drive)...we ran the ball 9 times for 36 yards and 1 TD

We passed the ball the other 14 times with 7 Incomplete, 2 Sacks -6 yards each,1 False Start, 1 FSU Penalty, and were 3 completions for 28 before the Last Drive where were were 3 for 50 yards.

That is 71% Negative Plays!!!!!!!!!I

nstead of having Second and 6 7 more times in the game, we were second and 10 or more 10 times in the game!

We had 4 3 and outs...2 with Incompletes on First Down.

FSU scores after 3 of 4 3 and outs for 16 points. No wonder we lost the game!

Morris was 25/43 (7/7 on the last drive). That means he was 18/36 with 7 incompletes on First Downs with 2 additional Sacks.

That means he is 18/29 with out those 7 Incompletes on First Downs...that is 62% and if you add in the 7/7 on the last drive he would have been 25/36 69.4%!

I bet we run the ball on the 7 first downs for an average of 4 yards a carry like we did not the 9 other first downs an we have a chance at the end.

I do not think it is Morris checking to all those First Down Pass Calls...Most of it is calls from the sidelines...

Offensive Play Calling has been poor in the Second and Third Quarters all season...OC gets away from the run game too quickly...

Why does OC call toss to Duke into the boundary all the time?

Why have I not seen the Counter Play Duke and James had long runs at the first of the Season?

LIKE I SAID ALL ON THE OFFENSE!

Brevardcane

The surprising thing for me on the offense was how Golden talked about not giving up on the run game despite getting some negative plays, yet it seemed we did just that. Like others already have said that pass on 3rd and 2 was a head scratcher..

Jack

Let's go CANES!!!

A-freakin-men. H gives his best, but the kid should have stayed at Buffalo. Remember when we signed hm, and that DT fom Illinois who got booted for rape? I said back then that these under the radar signings rarely work, and we'd be lucky if 1 of the 3 worked out, and that one would probably be Caine. Was told by several former spacers how good Gaines would be, what a steal they said.

86Cane

KACY RODGERS...love U, respect U, always a Cane, now just sit down. Thank U!

pbcfrcane13

Our whole section agrees with you 86

86Cane

OGV...there is not a single person on this blog who would could state that you have supported the current coaching regime since they were hired. U have used detrimental, humiliating and negative comments against them. That IS rooting against your coaches, players and team no matter how U define it.

U WANT THEM TO FAIL AND THAT MAKES U A SAD AND NEGATIVE PERSON AND A NON-FAN IMHO.

Terrance Sullivan

86 u are on point tonight. In total agreement man. I need to buy one more White Canespace XL t-shirt from ya my Canes brother.

USAFCane

Miami has played 2 of the top 5 BCS teams, 3 top 12. Lost them all pretty badly, but still I don't think many orger scholls can say that.

86Cane

Terrance...here is the deal: Everbody on Canespace has had the right to say whatever they want for years now. Yet at the same time I have been muted. That is no longer going to be the case. TRUST ME!

Listen up EVERYBODY:

I am so done with trying to make this the MOST popular blog on the Internet. All I really want is to relax, enjoy and talk with positive Canes fans.

If U think this team, these coaches and these players all suck then go the the MH or the SS and have at it.

The criticism is of their performance is valid and warranted.

The hatred and character assasination is NOT.

I don't like to put down our players but i felt like posting the same thing on the blog last night. It is obvious that the kid doesn't play agressive and plays very bad at his position with no instinct...The same with Jimmy G. On the possitive freshman Tyriq McCord made some impressive plays and he should be a beast by next year with 30 more pounds.

pbcfrcane13

Btw why doesn't davon get more playing time..is it to get the younger guys more pt? That kid has shown me a lot.

86Cane

Based on performance DJ should get more PT. I think it is because he is not "explosive" in speed or YAC. Other then that I have no idea why not? He has appeared to be the Canes most reliable WR performer?

I support the coaching staff and our students athletes all the way but i have to admit that OGV has made some very valid points. We all saw how poorly the Canes were coached last night. Golden and Fisch called a bad game. Do we have a TE coach??? Do we think that the DB coach is up to the task? D'no's Defense was a bit better more intense for 3 quarters.

I still believe that we will see improvement
in the last 4 games so that my prediction will hold at 8-4. 86 I respect OGV's opinions
it's just that he doesn't drink as much kool aid as we do so let's be cool all the way.

Zakkee

Those pictures and that experience have me extremely jealous!

Glad you guys had fun, it was a beautiful night

1. Fisch did not have his best night but I think those are still to come. He is good but gets cute sometimes.

2. We do but I do not know how effective he is. He is a great recruiter but maybe not such a good coach? DB's and their coaching were fine last night. There is no doubt that D'No's group played well until it was too late to matter.

3. There is a difference between drinking the Kool Aid and just continuously bashing and ridiculing the coaches, players and team 24/7. Look if a player or coach needs criticizing then fine, do it ONCE (see Kacy Rodgers). But to live and breath each day just to do it AGAIN AND AGAIN AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN serves no purpose other than your own.

Terrance Sullivan

Finally it was fun to see life in Sunlife. It looked good on ABC but must have been great at the stadium.

I hope there will be 60,000 plus vs VT.

The Dude

Alright. Canes are looking at a 4 game stretch of "winnable" games. I feel like we should win all 4. VTech is the worst VTech team I have seen since I can remember. Goldie needs to beat VTech. Dispite the loss to FSU, I saw SOME good things and our D might be coming together a little. We have 2 weeks to prepare for VTech. No matter what ANYONE has to say here, good coaches win off byes. VTech will be VERY, VERY telling about our staff. We need to out-coach VTech. O needs to step it up. I didnt think Morris QB'd well enough to beat FSU. I will chalk some of that up to his injury but he needs to make smarter decisions like throwing for the sticks o 3rd down. If we win out our last 4, everyone here will have to be pretty satisfied. We would be 8-4 and 5-2 and possibly in the ACC championship game. Morris has 2 weeks to get well.

The Dude

I am trying to tell myself that this is the last 6-6 season we will see.

The Dude

And that this is the last time 6-6 will be acceptable.

86Cane

Monty...don't get confused, OGV is my friend, I hang out with him all the time and he is a obviously VERY smart guy, there is no doubting that. Also he contributes a lot to this blog and his points are valid. I am not questioning that.

The ONLY complaints I have are to stay stuck on ONE negative issue or idea and to just constantly harp on it day after day and week after week. There is no need for that and it does not do the blog or anybody here any good. And the other is to wish for someone to fail. To me that is just wrong no matter how U slice and dice it. It is clear that OGV has rooted against Golden and D'No since day one.

Is ANYONE here completely happy or pleased or satisfied with the team's perfromance this year? Of course not. I am not pretending that anybody should be. But say your piece and move on to the next topic or subject.

To stand around beating a dead horse, drag its body through the streets, cut its head off, yank its tail and then disembowel it and throw it in everybody's face time after time after time serves no productive purpose whatsoever.

8-4 is very achievable. The worst of the Canes schedule is behind us, with 3 of the 4 losses to top 10 teams. If the Canes win the Coastal, then the coversation about Al Golden goes from pariah to hero and ACC Coach of the year

And U know what? IF that's as good as The New Place can be then that is just fine with me. Like U said when we start winning again that place will ROCK.

I think it was a HUGE recruiting win for UM.

canezilla

IT WAS A FUN NIGHT 4 SURE... NO MORE NOON GAMES!!!!!!!

LB

Been sick for a few days.

3 losses in a row after 3 wins.

I'm very glad the rest of the schedule is manageable.

86Cane

Kansas State, the new No. 3, might be the biggest threat to join an SEC team at the BCS title party. Bill Snyder’s team is No. 2 in computer average, plays two ranked teams (No. 14 Texas Tech and No. 23 Texas) the rest of the way and won’t play in a league title game. Although the weak closing slate could hurt the Wildcats in a debate with Oregon, it’s time to embrace the very real possibility of a perfect season for K-State.

Notre Dame didn’t dominate its Week 8 opponent, but the Irish didn’t need to. With Notre Dame, it’s all about the two marquee road games, the first of which arrives this week at Oklahoma. If Notre Dame wins in Norman, it heads to USC on Nov. 24 to play for a spot in the title game. Given Notre Dame’s computer clout (No. 3 average) and the schedule it has played, if it wins out, it deserves to be in.

86Cane

In recognition of his lifetime accomplishments and a distinguished legacy of helping others, the University of Miami has created the Ron Fraser Wizard Fund to honor the Hall of Fame coach with a bronze statue to be placed at Alex Rodriguez Park.

Fraser coached the Hurricanes for 30 years from 1963-92. While never posting a losing season, his teams won 1,271 games and captured the 1982 and 1985 national titles. More than a hundred of Fraser's ballplayers went on to professional baseball and many more started successful careers.

"Our entire family is deeply touched and excited about the plans for a Ron Fraser statue," said Elizabeth Fraser Kraut, one of Ron's daughters, "and that it will stand at the stadium that always represented his dedication, determination, pride and his deep love for not only the game, but for his players, the University of Miami, the fans and the entire South Florida community. This season will mark the 50th year that we became a part of the U Family, so the timing could not be more perfect."

The Ron Fraser statue will be located at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field.

And I am OK with that. It is the UNC loss that was unacceptable IMHO.

UM was not going to beat KSU or ND this year but FSU was a very winnable game also.

86Cane

On the "criticizing the team on the blog" thing let me say this: Zakkee and I do not agree on a lot of things but generally when he criticizes the coaching, or players or team he does so in a creative, contructive and professional manner, not just bashing for the sake of it because it seems like the fun or funny thing to do.

Yesterday he posted about Golden not having the "IT" factor where he can out-scheme and out-coach another team to the point where UM beats a team that is superior in talent to them. Even RoachCane reluctantly agreed with him. That was a new idea and approach and just not the same old criticism.

That is a good example what is interesting and helpful versus just posting something that is mean spirited or hurtful.

canezilla

86 I DISAGREE. THE ONLY LOSS WE SHOULD HAVE THIS YEAR WAS TO K-STATE.NOTRE DAME COULD BE BEAT.IF DORSET CAUGHT THE PASS AND D DIDNT DROP THE INT.IT WOULD BE A DIFFRENT BALL GAME.OH ALSO IF WE HAD NEW UNIS WE WOULD OF BEAT K-STATE...NO?

jiggafras

This is funny to hear people accusing others of constantly bashing. I wonder where that came from....maybe its because we have been having the same problems from the first game to game 8 for the most part. Like i said before i called 8-4 preseason and its right there infront of us . We have a bye week to rest of a tough 8 weeks and fight our way into the ACC title game, regardless of what happens that would be progress. Lets see if these coaches are gonna earn their salary

CaneRock

My biggest question with the coaching staff is personnel placement.

First off, why is Chickillo lined up on the strongside?

Why did they put McCord and Howard on the same side during the game? And most importantly, why was Howard lined up as a strong-side CB, nevermind boundary or field?

Why is Jelani Hamilton!...NOT a strongside DE?

Why don't we just call it a day and put Bush and Cornelius at the Safeties? If I'm not mistaken, didn't Cornelius have a big stick in the game...

4-Real

Quinton, no way our staff goes after Paul James. He has 2 many major offers.

When you saw lamar did you point out how good this team could have been if everyone didnt leave early? I know you didnt but man I wish they would have stayed. Oh well..we need to heal up for the last stretch of the season..all these teams are beatable easily but how many times have we said that and turned around and got beat...how many close games with duke when theu should be blow outs?

Defense is looking better over the past couple games..I think the offense is going conservative due to injuries and maybe all the dropped passes caused us to be scared of the deep ball now?

Ken roberts

The game was on replay last nite on some of the espn channels.

There has been question, do we have the talent and bad coaching, or good coaching and no talent. Golden seems to be saying that we have bad talent and the coaching is OK.

So, OK big guy, hit the recruiting trail and bring in the bacon. Gotta get ready for UF next year.

CGNC

Raize - yeah I exchanged emails with Six, he has been crazy busy too

j.w.

4-real? When did he do that? I read as much as everyone, and if Golden has one trait you can rely on, it's never blaming anyone. He has their backs even when its obvious someone isn't getting the job done.

LB

North Carolina was an awful loss, the worst of the bunch. Good news: our opponents are pretty awful (with the exception of Duke).

More good news: we get an off week.

We need some monsters on the d-line to start eating offenses. That cures a lot of ills.

How about a tight end to come in and just start killing defenses?

I have no issues with Golden or Fisch. The winds are sailing back to QBU. Now we need to provide them with weapons.

calGary Cane

Blaming the kids that he recruited and is failing 2 develop. Class act.

2 part accusation...

failing 2 develop...not sure how you can come to the conclusion so fast. Please let me know you figure that there has been no (insufficient) development.

4-Real

Definitely need 2 hit the recruiting trail hard & heavy, and no more experiments. Giving schollys 2 kids @ summer camp cuz they move their hips well in shorts is absurd. Gotta start back battling the Bamas & Floriduhs 4 recruits and not the Marshalls & Western Michigans.

Herbieibis

A few words from the Herb.
Morris had a chance to throw the ball away and instead coughed it up to set up FSU's first TD.
I get throwing the ball to the backs but 12 to 15 times is going over board.
We are still not utilizing all our weapons on offense, ah la our TE's. Maybe their not great but we have to throw something besides a 5 yd pass to them.
Are you kidding me a fade, with 2 yds to go for a first down, why not use Hagens.
I look at Sports Center and I see other teams wr's running open all day and we can't get anyone open.
I'll tell you why our dl line gets gutted:
King **
Smith***
Ivery***
Moore***
Pierre***
Robinson***
Grimble ****
Porter***
I don't want to even mention the LB's because we have one 4 star.
Either Jethro ain't doing his job or you can't tell me stars don't matter.
I get the fact that we are young and the worm will turn, it's just not fast enough sometimes. I like the potential of this team, just not the scheme. If we're going down, lets go down in a blaze of glory, let's play press coverage all over the field not just inside the 20 and lets blitz more, because our interior defense ain't getting to the QB, without it.
FSU, like UNC tried to give us the game but once again we just didn't want it, with some of the play calling. We got by with a couple of sweeps but going to the well once to often against speed ain't happening. The defense played admirably but for the 8TH game in a row we coughed up over 2oo yds on the ground not a recipe for winning football and this is why we will be lucky to finish 6-6 and we desperately need 6 wins, with the NCAA hangmans noose dangling over our heads!

I think u will find if you follow the NFL draft? A great majority of the first rd draft picks are 1-3 star picks !! JJ Watt not rated!! -- Alonzo Highsmith (@alonzohighsmith)

j.w.

Willie Will: that is simply not true. The majority of 1-3 round picks are 4 and 5 stars. Phil Steele did something on this last year. There isn't as big a correlation between stars and productivity in the NFL, but among draft choices there is. Everyone remembers the exceptions, but they are not the majority.

4-Real

None of them Hurricanes though Will lol.

I think this team will get better. It's just that we didn't get into this mess in one season and so we are not getting out of it in one season either.

I watched the game again and thought Trel did a good job against the DE,s particularly the german dude. Trel ate that guy up on running plays and pushed him out of the way to the outside on pass plays. The sacks given up were not on him. I guess Susan from the herald is happy?

pbcfrcane13

Golden was great on Wqam this morning if you didn't hear it I would. The best part about it was when he talked about getting Jucos....

Basicallly he said he doesn't like that because if he would have done that when he came in now all the kids would be gone by the end of this year and he would be starting over next year with young kids and no PT experance. Also stating that he will use them to fill the roster with needs. He said hes like a GM....and he stated that he knows what this team is going to look like from today...2013,14,15. Basically what I got from it was that Golden is not worried about trying to fix this team for this season he's going to set this up like Butch set it up to the point by year 4-5 the team is set up for a 5 year run.

People need to understand that this isnt' the late 80s early 90s late 90s early 2000s.....this is late 70s and mid 90s were we are at right now. With the sanctions your not going to find that many more coaches who are going to want this job....maybe Mario would, but thats about it. Golden has done what all fans want he got you a top 10 recruiting class in his first full year of recruiting even with sanctions hanging over his head. Now we need to see if he can develop them. This D is starting to show flashes. now lets see what happens when they can get bigger and faster if they can start trusting them to play different schemes.

WWIN

4-real,

What about ed reed or santana moss???

pbcfrcane13

What did LUther dad say on the radio I missed it?

Dude on a Pale Horse

I am kind of liking where our D is going. LOVE Denzel and Johnson is coming along. We still need 3 more guys to step up. CB looks good. Finnie and Gunter and Howard next year. Safety is still an issue but Bush reminds me a little of Kenny Phillips. DL is still a work in progress. Pierre is talented. Chick will get better and McCord is coming on now. We still need a nose tackle.

Zakkee

j.w.

Either way, though, Golden said Morris’ teammates need to provide more help, whether it’s the receivers catching passes or the linemen holding blocks.

“Stephen was hit too many times [against FSU] to have a good completion percentage,” Golden said of Morris, who completed 25 of 43 passes for 223 yards against FSU with one touchdown and one interception.

“He didn’t practice all week because of his injury. And then, as the game went on and we got behind by two [scores], he started to take more hits and more pressure.”

Golden acknowledged that the running game needs to be more productive. Against FSU, Johnson was held to 27 yards on nine carries, and Mike James had 25 yards on seven rushes.

“A lot of the runs we tried left us in second-and-long [situations],” Golden said. “Then we got behind, and it became very difficult to stay with the run game. The [run-pass ratio] got skewed late in the game, and Florida State is a tough team to get balance with.”

This comments are examples of how Golden is evading any responsibility for performance. He says that the offensive line didn't do a good job. This is irresponsible of him. The coaches abandoned the run which forced the o-line to play in the defensive (pass rushing) posture the entire game against All-ACC DE Carradine and All-American DE Werner. Run plays provide the o-line an opportunity to inflict aggression and impose their physical will on the opponent's D-line.

The Hurricane OT's and line were doing so well in pass coverage (despite Golden and Fisch's insistence on passing--putting them and are hobbled QB at a physical disadvantage) that FSU burned 5 stars DT Goldman and DE Dante Fowler Jr's redshirts in order to get addition push up front.

Henderson, Feliciano, and Bunche were stoning those boys!!

And Golden's comments don't acknowledge this at all. Its all on the players.

Also, its a fact that a team cannot run the ball if they don't practice it. What you see on game day is what was practiced during the week.

So what did/do we see? Think about how the team plays in games.

8th game of the season and we can't run the ball = we don't practice running the ball much in practice.

If we did, would the defense do so poorly at stopping opposing rushing attacks?

Our passing attack or scheme had been successful in practice because the defense plays 10 yards off the ball in practice.

Golden needs to humble himself and ask everyone to be patient with him and his coaching staff as well. In truth, they're closer to the inexperienced players than they let on.

Question: How did NC State manage to defeat FSU with less talent depth, and experience than the Semenoles?

Well deserved. I hope they will do the same with some former fotball coaches and players.

Any news on Duke Johnson who got x-rays/ or an MRI?

NC State one because Jimbo play calling was awful!! Im buddy who flew doen for the game and is a die hard noles fans said that Jimbo by half time just wanted to run the ball and get out of there which in turn let NC state back in the game late.

I disagree we have not been able to run the ball all season other than a couple big runs which skewed the numbers. Other than GT UM run offense has been horrible. YOu ever think that our Oline is undersized to get a good push off off the line against big teams like ND, Kstate, FSU? What they can do it pass block because they have quickness....

The oline was not playing well I watched the game in person and watched it twice on DVR Morris had people on him all game. The only passes we were able to complete all game was to he RB because the push the D line was getting on our Oline was letting the RB sneak out with nobody around him.

...Also, its a fact that a team cannot run the ball if they don't practice it. What you see on game day is what was practiced during the week...<-- definition of young team!

Which is also why we cannot make too many adjustments!

pbcfrcane13

btw UM has played 5 game against FBS teams with winning records our stats in rushing...avg are 29 attempts per those game with an avg over those 5 games of 2.88 yds a carry. Maybe this is why we dont run the ball. Because we don't practice? So now were going to claim that we know what the team practices and doesn't. Really?

I would say that we don't run the ball a lot because of two reasons man one is we have played 3 teams who have top D! Also we have been getting killed in 2 of those games. The other one we played the 4th best rush D in the nation and we tried to attack them with Mike James a nice RB...but not superstar and a freshman who FSU D has the speed to close him off when he runs outside and also got hurt in the 3rd quarter when the game was close.

j.w.

Zakkee, I think you know the game pretty well and usually I agree with you. But it almost seems like you're looking to find fault. We played as poorly on offense as we could have at times, but its not like we were playing Boston College out there. FSU is good, our QB was hurting, our young WR look like freshmen (good one game, lost the next, etc.) and our most explosive RB was at 80% during the first half and hurt at the end. Those are facts. Golden is right that Morris got hit too many times, our pass protection wasn't as good as it has been through the first 7 games, but I think Morris' lack of mobility caused a lot of the problem.
To answer some of your other questions, Goldmen and Fowler came in because of injuries, didn't they? FSU's DL suffered at least two. They have depth to replace them that we don't, unfortunately.

As for:
8th game of the season and we can't run the ball = we don't practice running the ball much in practice.

If we did, would the defense do so poorly at stopping opposing rushing attacks?
How do you know they don't practice running enough? I find it really hard to believe they don't. I agree we needed to run the ball more, but I think the fact we didn't is more a reflection on a philosophy- Almost without exception, when FSU showed 8 in the box Morris either audibled to a pass, or passed without audibling. Then we got behind by two scores and abandoned the run. I'd prefer they ground and pound FSU than do this because FSU didn't seem to have an answer on those toss-sweeps to James. But I don't think that our decision to get away from the run was due to lack of practice.

The coaches should be talked about like the 3 and 2 play call was HORRIBLE!!!!!!

I think everybody knows when over power one side of the line and Duke is in the back field its a pitch to duke to that side.....fake it one time!!!! The development of TEs they can't block or get open. dyron Dye is in at TE its run or hes staying in to block....barely goes out not making it hard for the Defense to figure things out with him in the game.

Coach Dno will lol the one good thing is that he is starting to show more press and blitzes.....not as much as I like but hey.....and Gunther wow welcome to the U buddy lol

The one thing Im starting to like to see is the passion from all the Freshman Bush was playing all out....EJ was getting pissed on the field after giving up a big play....Gunther was dancing around before plays....like see the kids get into this and show passion!

I'll say one elongated reason about this VT game and why Canes better NOT lose...

They have 1 1/2 weeks to prepare for a THURSDAY NIGHT GAME AT HOME against a 4-4 team, who's right on their heels in the ACC race, who almost lost to GT and did lose to PITT and Cincy!!
