This year when trying to decide a theme for our 2012 Canespace T-shirts our reigning blogger of the year OhioCane came up with a great idea: "I Earned My Swagger, How 'Bout U?" Well, we liked it so much that we selected it for the back panel of the Canespace T-shirts.
I have been to just about every home game at the Orange Bowl and Sun Life Stadium this year and the year before that, and before that, and that one too, and then the other one as well since about 1980.
But to be honest I began wondering when, or maybe if, this team and this new stadium was ever going to get their swagger back.
As I was tailgating in Section E5 of the parking lot of Sun Life Stadium yesterday I was thinking about when was the next time a really big game was going to be played at this stadium.
It did not take long to see that in fact this was a really BIG game and all the big time party people, and even some hard core Hurricane and Seminole fans were in the house for this little nasty intra-state soiree.
Now I don't know if you have ever had the opportunity to have the luxury of having attended a game at "The Old Lady" but when she was ON, she was electric bordering on ballistic and always at risk of going completely nuclear.
The west end zone crew knew what to do and they would send the Orange Bowl into a staggering and stunning wave of noise that could drown out 747 planes flying overhead on their approach to MIA.
Well last night at Sun Life it was very close to that experience. I haven't seen so many people kicked out of a game since the days back in the heart of the 305 on NW 7th Street and 12th Avenue. If you ever doubted if Sun Life could rock it like the old OB then doubt no more.
Sun Life Stadium was on fire last night for the Miami vs FSU matchup. Forget who won or lost the game, Miami most definitely won the recruiting matchup BIG time against the Noles last night.
For all of those who claim that an off-site stadium can't work I say BS. Where else can you meet J12 by walking by and handing him a Canespace T-shirt?
This place was ballistic and revved up for football (and a few other things that we can't mention) last night. Even some of us East-siders dared to go over to the Dark-side and try to get into the West-siders territory.
That place is just down right scary. No really, it is seriously scary!
We even found some of our old friends from Canespace like Carlos, who single-handedly drove Patrick Nix out of town. And our old friend Keoki who makes a Rum punch that will make your eyes water. Well at least it did mine.
If you are from Iowa, Indiana, Oregon, Nebraska, Utah, Minnesota or maybe North or South Dakota then you just should NOT go there. I'm jus sayin.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot. And then there was the game between UM and FSU. It was a good game for three quarters. The defense showed up but the offense did not. The Canes lost the game but that's a story for another day.
The Hurricanes may have lost the game on this night, but their fans, the team and the players they are actively recruiting clearly won BIG time!
Sun Life Stadium was totally rockin' for one loud, late night in October.
Just as it should be...
Good fans showing. Put together a strong atmosphere for a couple of recruits. Love it.

REPOSTED FROM THE MH BLOG:
We had 26 First Down Play Calls (including the 4 first downs on the last Drive)...we ran the ball 9 times for 36 yards and 1 TD
We passed the ball the other 14 times with 7 Incomplete, 2 Sacks -6 yards each,1 False Start, 1 FSU Penalty, and were 3 completions for 28 before the Last Drive where were were 3 for 50 yards.
That is 71% Negative Plays!!!!!!!!!I
nstead of having Second and 6 7 more times in the game, we were second and 10 or more 10 times in the game!
We had 4 3 and outs...2 with Incompletes on First Down.
FSU scores after 3 of 4 3 and outs for 16 points. No wonder we lost the game!
Morris was 25/43 (7/7 on the last drive). That means he was 18/36 with 7 incompletes on First Downs with 2 additional Sacks.
That means he is 18/29 with out those 7 Incompletes on First Downs...that is 62% and if you add in the 7/7 on the last drive he would have been 25/36 69.4%!
I bet we run the ball on the 7 first downs for an average of 4 yards a carry like we did not the 9 other first downs an we have a chance at the end.
I do not think it is Morris checking to all those First Down Pass Calls...Most of it is calls from the sidelines...
Offensive Play Calling has been poor in the Second and Third Quarters all season...OC gets away from the run game too quickly...
Why does OC call toss to Duke into the boundary all the time?
Why have I not seen the Counter Play Duke and James had long runs at the first of the Season?
LIKE I SAID ALL ON THE OFFENSE!
Posted by: 86Cane | October 21, 2012 at 09:09 PM
The surprising thing for me on the offense was how Golden talked about not giving up on the run game despite getting some negative plays, yet it seemed we did just that. Like others already have said that pass on 3rd and 2 was a head scratcher..

A-freakin-men. H gives his best, but the kid should have stayed at Buffalo. Remember when we signed hm, and that DT fom Illinois who got booted for rape? I said back then that these under the radar signings rarely work, and we'd be lucky if 1 of the 3 worked out, and that one would probably be Caine. Was told by several former spacers how good Gaines would be, what a steal they said.

OGV...there is not a single person on this blog who would could state that you have supported the current coaching regime since they were hired. U have used detrimental, humiliating and negative comments against them. That IS rooting against your coaches, players and team no matter how U define it.
U WANT THEM TO FAIL AND THAT MAKES U A SAD AND NEGATIVE PERSON AND A NON-FAN IMHO.

86 u are on point tonight. In total agreement man. I need to buy one more White Canespace XL t-shirt from ya my Canes brother.

Miami has played 2 of the top 5 BCS teams, 3 top 12. Lost them all pretty badly, but still I don't think many orger scholls can say that.

Terrance...here is the deal: Everbody on Canespace has had the right to say whatever they want for years now. Yet at the same time I have been muted. That is no longer going to be the case. TRUST ME!

Listen up EVERYBODY:
I am so done with trying to make this the MOST popular blog on the Internet. All I really want is to relax, enjoy and talk with positive Canes fans.
If U think this team, these coaches and these players all suck then go the the MH or the SS and have at it.
The criticism is of their performance is valid and warranted.
The hatred and character assasination is NOT.

I don't like to put down our players but i felt like posting the same thing on the blog last night. It is obvious that the kid doesn't play agressive and plays very bad at his position with no instinct...The same with Jimmy G. On the possitive freshman Tyriq McCord made some impressive plays and he should be a beast by next year with 30 more pounds.
Posted by: Montreal-Cane | October 21, 2012 at 10:15 PM
Btw why doesn't davon get more playing time..is it to get the younger guys more pt? That kid has shown me a lot.
Posted by: pbcfrcane13 | October 21, 2012 at 10:27 PM
Based on performance DJ should get more PT. I think it is because he is not "explosive" in speed or YAC. Other then that I have no idea why not? He has appeared to be the Canes most reliable WR performer?

I support the coaching staff and our students athletes all the way but i have to admit that OGV has made some very valid points. We all saw how poorly the Canes were coached last night. Golden and Fisch called a bad game. Do we have a TE coach??? Do we think that the DB coach is up to the task? D'no's Defense was a bit better more intense for 3 quarters.
I still believe that we will see improvement
in the last 4 games so that my prediction will hold at 8-4. 86 I respect OGV's opinions
it's just that he doesn't drink as much kool aid as we do so let's be cool all the way.

Those pictures and that experience have me extremely jealous!
Glad you guys had fun, it was a beautiful night
That entrance gave me goosebumps, can't imagine how it was live!

1. Fisch did not have his best night but I think those are still to come. He is good but gets cute sometimes.
2. We do but I do not know how effective he is. He is a great recruiter but maybe not such a good coach? DB's and their coaching were fine last night. There is no doubt that D'No's group played well until it was too late to matter.
3. There is a difference between drinking the Kool Aid and just continuously bashing and ridiculing the coaches, players and team 24/7. Look if a player or coach needs criticizing then fine, do it ONCE (see Kacy Rodgers). But to live and breath each day just to do it AGAIN AND AGAIN AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN serves no purpose other than your own.

The swing state was swinging and spectators loved it. UM got to experience the electricity that energizes most major programs every week from the Big House to The Swamp to Death Valley.

Finally it was fun to see life in Sunlife. It looked good on ABC but must have been great at the stadium.
I hope there will be 60,000 plus vs VT.
Posted by: Montreal-Cane | October 22, 2012 at 12:03 AM
Alright. Canes are looking at a 4 game stretch of "winnable" games. I feel like we should win all 4. VTech is the worst VTech team I have seen since I can remember. Goldie needs to beat VTech. Dispite the loss to FSU, I saw SOME good things and our D might be coming together a little. We have 2 weeks to prepare for VTech. No matter what ANYONE has to say here, good coaches win off byes. VTech will be VERY, VERY telling about our staff. We need to out-coach VTech. O needs to step it up. I didnt think Morris QB'd well enough to beat FSU. I will chalk some of that up to his injury but he needs to make smarter decisions like throwing for the sticks o 3rd down. If we win out our last 4, everyone here will have to be pretty satisfied. We would be 8-4 and 5-2 and possibly in the ACC championship game. Morris has 2 weeks to get well.

Monty...don't get confused, OGV is my friend, I hang out with him all the time and he is a obviously VERY smart guy, there is no doubting that. Also he contributes a lot to this blog and his points are valid. I am not questioning that.
The ONLY complaints I have are to stay stuck on ONE negative issue or idea and to just constantly harp on it day after day and week after week. There is no need for that and it does not do the blog or anybody here any good. And the other is to wish for someone to fail. To me that is just wrong no matter how U slice and dice it. It is clear that OGV has rooted against Golden and D'No since day one.
Is ANYONE here completely happy or pleased or satisfied with the team's perfromance this year? Of course not. I am not pretending that anybody should be. But say your piece and move on to the next topic or subject.
To stand around beating a dead horse, drag its body through the streets, cut its head off, yank its tail and then disembowel it and throw it in everybody's face time after time after time serves no productive purpose whatsoever.

8-4 is very achievable. The worst of the Canes schedule is behind us, with 3 of the 4 losses to top 10 teams. If the Canes win the Coastal, then the coversation about Al Golden goes from pariah to hero and ACC Coach of the year

Zilla...totally agree with you about the Ornage Bowl vs Sun Life Stadium. But like me you have been to ALL of the games and this was a completely different atmosphere.
And U know what? IF that's as good as The New Place can be then that is just fine with me. Like U said when we start winning again that place will ROCK.
I think it was a HUGE recruiting win for UM.

Been sick for a few days.
3 losses in a row after 3 wins.
I'm very glad the rest of the schedule is manageable.
Posted by: LB | October 22, 2012 at 08:42 AM
Kansas State, the new No. 3, might be the biggest threat to join an SEC team at the BCS title party. Bill Snyder’s team is No. 2 in computer average, plays two ranked teams (No. 14 Texas Tech and No. 23 Texas) the rest of the way and won’t play in a league title game. Although the weak closing slate could hurt the Wildcats in a debate with Oregon, it’s time to embrace the very real possibility of a perfect season for K-State.
Notre Dame didn’t dominate its Week 8 opponent, but the Irish didn’t need to. With Notre Dame, it’s all about the two marquee road games, the first of which arrives this week at Oklahoma. If Notre Dame wins in Norman, it heads to USC on Nov. 24 to play for a spot in the title game. Given Notre Dame’s computer clout (No. 3 average) and the schedule it has played, if it wins out, it deserves to be in.

In honor of his legacy, #UM has created the Ron Fraser Wizard Fund to build a bronze statue to be placed at A-Rod Park:

3 of our 4 losses are teams ranked #3, #5, and #12 in the country.

In recognition of his lifetime accomplishments and a distinguished legacy of helping others, the University of Miami has created the Ron Fraser Wizard Fund to honor the Hall of Fame coach with a bronze statue to be placed at Alex Rodriguez Park.
Fraser coached the Hurricanes for 30 years from 1963-92. While never posting a losing season, his teams won 1,271 games and captured the 1982 and 1985 national titles. More than a hundred of Fraser's ballplayers went on to professional baseball and many more started successful careers.
"Our entire family is deeply touched and excited about the plans for a Ron Fraser statue," said Elizabeth Fraser Kraut, one of Ron's daughters, "and that it will stand at the stadium that always represented his dedication, determination, pride and his deep love for not only the game, but for his players, the University of Miami, the fans and the entire South Florida community. This season will mark the 50th year that we became a part of the U Family, so the timing could not be more perfect."
The Ron Fraser statue will be located at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field.

And I am OK with that. It is the UNC loss that was unacceptable IMHO.
UM was not going to beat KSU or ND this year but FSU was a very winnable game also.
Posted by: 86Cane | October 22, 2012 at 10:44 AM
On the "criticizing the team on the blog" thing let me say this: Zakkee and I do not agree on a lot of things but generally when he criticizes the coaching, or players or team he does so in a creative, contructive and professional manner, not just bashing for the sake of it because it seems like the fun or funny thing to do.
Yesterday he posted about Golden not having the "IT" factor where he can out-scheme and out-coach another team to the point where UM beats a team that is superior in talent to them. Even RoachCane reluctantly agreed with him. That was a new idea and approach and just not the same old criticism.
That is a good example what is interesting and helpful versus just posting something that is mean spirited or hurtful.

86 I DISAGREE. THE ONLY LOSS WE SHOULD HAVE THIS YEAR WAS TO K-STATE.NOTRE DAME COULD BE BEAT.IF DORSET CAUGHT THE PASS AND D DIDNT DROP THE INT.IT WOULD BE A DIFFRENT BALL GAME.OH ALSO IF WE HAD NEW UNIS WE WOULD OF BEAT K-STATE...NO?

This is funny to hear people accusing others of constantly bashing. I wonder where that came from....maybe its because we have been having the same problems from the first game to game 8 for the most part. Like i said before i called 8-4 preseason and its right there infront of us . We have a bye week to rest of a tough 8 weeks and fight our way into the ACC title game, regardless of what happens that would be progress. Lets see if these coaches are gonna earn their salary
