Former NBA star and now TV personality Charles Barkley made a very good living as a fat man who could do one thing and one thing really well: rebound the basketball. Barkley did not fight but instead embraced his largeness and not only became one of the best players in NBA history but also became known as the one and only highly original "Round Mound of Rebound".
Current University of Miami basketball player Reggie Johnson appears to have grown seriously fond of Sir Charles and seems to be trying his best to imitate him. Johnson, who weighs in very close to a whopping 300 pounds, scored 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to help Miami hold off Stetson 87-79 on Friday in the season opener for both teams.
UM's Kenny Kadji finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds for Miami, which trailed by seven late in the first half, then wasted most of a 13-point second-half lead before hanging on in the final minutes. Trey McKinney Jones scored 14 points, Shane Larkin added 13 and Rion Brown had 10 for Miami.
Adam Pegg scored 22 points, Aaron Graham added 21 and Chris Perez finished with 12 for Stetson, which shot 13 for 31 from 3-point range.
Miami - a team with hopes of contending in the Atlantic Coast Conference despite losing an exhibition game to Division II St. Leo earlier this month - struggled early. By the time the Hurricanes had seven field goals of any kind, Stetson had already made six 3-pointers, and the Hatters led for much of the first half.
The Hurricanes had to rely on "The Big Johnson", who is officially listed at 6-foot-10 and 292-pounds on the UM roster, which makes him at least 32 pounds heavier than anyone on the Stetson team. Johnson had five rebounds in the first half, all of them offensive, and he turned those second chances into nine points. The last five of those came in the final 2:01 of the half, and the teams were tied at 34 at the break.of scoring after the break.
Miami led by as many as 13 points in the second half after a quick burst of scoring after the break. But the Mad Hatters would not go away quietly and hung around long enough to make it closer than was comfortable for the Hurricanes' coaches, players and fans in attendance at the beautiful Bank United Center in lovely Coral Gables.
NOTE: Season tickets, mini-plans and non-conference single-game tickets are on sale now, and can be purchase at CanesTix.com or by calling the BankUnited Center Ticket Office at 305.284.2263. The ticket office is open Monday-Friday from 8:30 AM to 5 PM.
SPECIAL NOTE: The Hurricanes played without guard Durand Scott, who still has two games remaining on a suspension imposed by the NCAA late last season for receiving impermissible benefits.

Anybody that knows anything about Golden knows he's got Morris' back.
Deal with it.

This is possibly the dumbest thing ever written on this blog. EVER.
Dumbest thing ever written on your blog ever?
Do you not read your own blog?
There is nothing dumb about it. The point is Morris doesn't have to play an "A" game every week to keep his job. The staff does have his back because they feel that overall we have the best chance to win with him under center. They've seen enough of both quarterbacks and know exactly what they have. Williams is a servicable backup. That's all.
They only way they pull him is if he has a Jacory Notre Shame type of game or if we're way ahead or behind.
Get used to Morris. He's not going anywhere.
Deal with it.

Canesrock so the Seminoles lost to the South Alabama Jaguars out of Mobile wow.

Starting strong side linebacker Eddie Johnson will miss Saturday’s game at Virginia due to a suspension.
I hate it when players are selfish.
Johnson, Perryman and Bush not playing...Not very confident about the outcome tomorrow.

Next man up no excuses let's go Canes.

as if I couldn't be any more nervous about tomorrows game. EJ being out doesn't help. I hope these backups realize this is their time to shine, this type of situation is how you can earn a job. I am going to go with as long as the offense plays like they did before the North carolina game "Except vs Kansas State" then we should be ok. I think the line is showing some positive signs and should be able to make some plays tomorrow.
LETS GO CANES!!!!!

can we do like Notre Dame and if a player breaks the rules "SUSPEND" him for 1 drive and act like that was any real punishment.
Posted by: Panamacitycane | November 10, 2012 at 12:06 AM
^^^^^^^^^^^
You don't think notre dame taught their starting qb and the whole team a lesson??? He had to sit out a WHOLE drive, you know how much that had to hurt him, I'm sure he'll never violate another rule again. Next time it might be TWO drives, who can take that type of punishment?? Notre dame is tuff

Per ESPNL
In each of its five wins this season, Miami has scored at least 30 points, including three wins when scoring 40 or more points -- all in ACC play. The Hurricanes have won seven consecutive games when scoring 30 or more points and are 16-1 in their past 17 such games.

Per Miami Herald:
"[Golden] said the Hurricanes are learning how to be frontrunners.
“It’s difficult because it’s the first time that we’re navigating that,’’ Golden said. “We were pretty much out [of the race] by this time last year. This is where you [need to be] disciplined, and your habits and process either hold up or crack.
“For us to go where we want to go in the coming years, this is the first step.’’

I posted the rationale for my statement giving what I thought was a a reasoned argument
If you disagree, no problem. But your response really seems like that of a petulant child. No rationale, no logic, just like a defiant child saying "because I said so". You really can't refute what I'm saying if that's all you've got.

Lewis rushes for 252 yards, winning score as Lake Mary Prep (10-0) nips Orangewood
Lake Mary Prep beats Orangewood Christian 19-16
Lake Mary Prep senior Ray Lewis III carried the ball a career-high 41 times for 252 yards while playing nearly every down on defense and special teams Friday at Orangewood Christian.
His final rush of a grueling afternoon was his shortest but sweetest gain. The son of All-Pro linebacker Ray Lewis scored from inside the 1-yard line on a fourth and goal play with 21.8 seconds to go to give the Griffins a 19-16 win at Orangewood Christian (6-4) and a 10-0 regular season.
"I'm definitely not a one-man team, but I knew the guys were depending on me,'' Lewis said. "I had to bring it home for my team.
Orangewood got 20 tackles from sophomore linebacker Jimmy Martin and led most of the way after Daniel Ebert blocked a punt, scooped the ball and scored from 72 yards out. Lewis returned a punt 67 yards to set up his first of two TDs to give LMP a 12-10 advantage late in the third quarter.
The Rams went back ahead after Martin intercepted a tipped pass and returned the ball 18 yards to the 9-yard line. That set up a B.J. Welch TD run with 7:48 remaining. Lewis started the Griffins' game-winning drive with a 29-yard kick return, then had runs to convert two fourth downs and a broken-play scramble for 15 on a third-and-11.
