The Shortlist to South Beach closes out November with major changes in the rankings of the ten teams still left in play for 2012, as they stand as follows:
Notre Dame, Ohio State, Kansas State, Oregon, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, FSU, Clemson and Louisville.
It only took three months but I'm finally pleased to announce that not a single team either won or lost a game that I did or didn't respectively predict them to be eliminated from the Shortlist as a result of. I feel better than Maryland's athletic department getting invited to join the Big 10 after getting blown-out by a ranked team to secure a losing season for yet another year in a row right now. So you can imagine how annoying it is that I even have to pick a winner in this weeks de-facto Shortlist to South Beach elimination game between the lesser two of Florida's Big Three programs, no matter how obvious the loser is this year.
The teams I predict will be eliminated from Shortlist contention this week are: Oregon and Florida.
I've been impressed with the season Mike Riley and the Beavers have quietly turned in this year while exceeding expectations and think the trend of the visitor in the Civil War rivalry having a tough go will continue this year.
Meanwhile, up in the Sunshine State capitol, the visitors lucky run is just about to reach the breaking point as one half a football team can only take you so far any given year, even if its the defensive half that knows what it's doing with any weekly competence.
Enjoy the games this week as finally the contenders here step up into rivalry competition to set the final roster heading into postseason play and join me back here next week as the Shortlist to South Beach reaches this season's nail-biting finale.

STORY LINES
• After being picked to finish fifth in the preseason, the Miami Hurricanes (6-5, 4-3 ACC) have the chance to secure a share of the ACC Coastal Division crown Saturday at Duke (6-5, 3-4 ACC). It would be Miami’s first conference title (division or overall) since joining the ACC.
• Saturday will be the 10th series meeting between the schools – and eighth as ACC rivals – with Miami owning a commanding 8-1 series advantage. Miami has won eight straight meetings, including all four previous trips to Durham.
• Through 11 games, the Miami Hurricanes are converting 87 percent of their red zone opportunities (40 of 46), which ranks as the fourth-best percentage in the ACC.
• 22 of Miami’s last 23 red zone trips have resulted in a score, including 12 touchdowns. Dating back to the third quarter of its 44-37 win Sept. 29 vs. NC State, Miami has converted 18 consecutive red zone trips in ACC play, including 13 TDs.
• Duke Johnson is tied for the national lead with 10 all-purpose plays of 50+ yards and is one of only 12 FBS players with at least two plays of 90+ yards.
• Junior QB Stephen Morris is tied for third nationally with 14 passes of 40+ yards and 8 passes of 50+ yards
• Freshman KR Duke Johnson leads the nation with 5 kickoff returns of 50+ yards and is also tied for the nationally lead with 4 returns of 60+ yards, 4 returns of 70+ yards and 3 returns of 80+ yards.
• Senior PK Jake Wieclaw is 18-of-23 on field goals this season and has made 10 consecutive tries.
• Through 11 games, Miami has forced 22 turnovers (11 INT, 11 fumbles), seven more than the Hurricanes forced during the 2011 season (15 turnovers).

Ya they have leaving wvu and at watching Miami practice the other day.
Posted by: Mcginns ale house | November 23, 2012 at 03:35 PM
Ivan may be better off over at FIU-we don't have many schollys left do we?
Posted by: tjl3909 | November 23, 2012 at 03:47 PM
or Randy can get him to TCU-since Randy recruited him hard
Posted by: tjl3909 | November 23, 2012 at 03:51 PM
Latest has him enrolling in jan. and trying to get hardship transfer from ncaa
Posted by: Mcginns ale house | November 23, 2012 at 03:57 PM
Don't know if we should want him or not.Was seen eating lunch with Howard and Lewis.

Posted by: Mcginns ale house | November 23, 2012 at 03:57 PM
If that's the case, then that would make Him count against this years signing class, wouldn't it?
If so, then that would essentially make Him a gray shirt...no?
Posted by: CaneRock | November 23, 2012 at 04:21 PM
86 - LOL that freaking gator is huge. ZOIKS is all I can say to that.
Posted by: CGNC | November 23, 2012 at 04:48 PM
I am not sure on the grey shirt status. He was currently a third year junior.
I wonder how much we are allowed to have contact
With him. Does it factor in that he has withdrawn from wvu?
Posted by: Mcginns ale house | November 23, 2012 at 04:57 PM
One thing for sure is there is enough real film on him
For Goldie to know if he could help us. Be it one year or not.
Also leaving according wvu was a freshman Wr named copeland
I think?. He is also from Florida.

One Internet sports site reporting "inside source at
Um has golden leaving " Well he sure does not give me that impression
From his statements. I know people will say remember what saban
Said before he left. If golden had leaving on his mind
He would not be so flat out with his statements on staying. He is a
Good speaker and smart, would no better then to make so
many unneeded statements that would damage his reputation
as a recruiter and a coach.
Posted by: Mcginns ale house | November 23, 2012 at 05:27 PM
Golden is not going anywhere. Any site that claims inside info that he's leaving is trying to drive up subscriptions before the season is over tomorrow.
Again, it's COMPLETELY FALSE that Golden is leaving UM or has even contemplated leaving UM.
Carry on.

ByPapaCane 21 Nov NCAA's Molly Richman is over hear head. Her letter has been a massive embarrassment for NCAA. Legal standing is paper thin. Silly approach.
No wonder why she is an Alumni of the University of Florida.

IMO..I dont want McCarthy..not because he isnt talented, but we have a staple of YOUNG wr's and we are building for the future. No need to waste a spot for a wr when we have plenty of talent there. We would use that scholly on a D-Lineman where we need to help and will have him for 3-4 years

I don't know about no stable UMike, we're gonna need WRs. You figure with Thompkins and Johnson graduating, and Lockhart and Lewis being out for the Spring, we're gonna be down four people at that position. I mean, if everything checks out with McCartney, go for it, especially if He get's cleared to play next season.
Posted by: CaneRock | November 23, 2012 at 06:43 PM
CaneRock..maybe not a full stable, but I just think with the limitations we are going to be dealing with and with the talent we have at WR with Dorsett, Lewis, Scott, Lockhart, Hurns, Jones, Carter and Waters, I think the scholly could better be used on an area of need, like the DL. And we get the kid for longer. JMO of course
Posted by: UMike | November 23, 2012 at 06:49 PM
The WV Rivals site has him listed as a JR, do we need to waste a spot on a WR that may not even start, for 1 year?

http://articles.sun-sentinel.com/2012-11-08/sports/fl-miami-malcolm-lewis-injury-update-1109-20121108_1_injury-ankle-al-golden
"Today, he's all about the twice daily rehab routine completed seven days a week. Still attending team meetings as if he were playing every Saturday, Lewis has four years of eligibility after being granted a medical redshirt. Doctors gave him the standard six to eight week window for recovery, and he's already thinking about spring practice."
