With only about 5-6 spots left in our 2013 class UM is wrapping things up soon and we still have a few kids waiting to announce at all-star games. Here are my thoughts on UM's Top 10 Targets:
1. RB Alex Collins - 5 star RB is the Mcgahee to Duke's Portis. Big time difference maker is close to 6'0 and 205 has only played FB for 2 years and is getting good in a hurry, he runs a 4.38 faster then Duke's reported 4.39. Prediction 7 out of 10 he will be a Cane.
2. RB David Williams - 4 star kid is a big back 6'1 and about 195 with ability to add weight. Miami has visited him recently in his home in Philly, Al has a lot of cred in Philly, look for him to commit if Collins gives us a no. Prediction 8 out of 10 if Collins does not sign with UM.
3. OL Denver Kirkland - 4 star OL, He is a ROAD GRADER at the OL. He is big 6'4 ish and 330. Is extremely strong in the weight room with a 395 Bench and 675 Lb Squat which is a lot more than any Cane I have in recent memory (UM record is Sileo 700lbs.) Prediction 9 out of 10 he is a Cane.
4. DE Tim Williams - a 4 star OLB/DE Hybrid he is about 6'3 and 225ish. He is not big but has excellent quickness and pass rush ability. His first step is deadly reminds of McCord. Will need to add weight, is the top rated prospect in L.A. Prediction 4 out of 10 he is a Cane, Hard to get guys from L.A.
5. LB Matthew Thomas - 5 star 6'4 215 lb LB. has offers everywhere is close to Canes coach Barrow. Playmaker is what comes to mind when seeing this kid play, long frame to add weight explosive and fast. Prediction 7 of 10 he is a Cane, FSU is on him but I expect him to join his teammate Kirkland.
6. LB Jermaine Grace - 3 star undersized 6'1 205 lb LB out of Miramar HS. He is close to many current Canes and is a very active LB, A RS year would do him well to add weight. I am not sure if he would project to OLB or Safety but has a visit next week and was on campus recently. Prediction 10 out of 10 he is a Cane, kid was born a Cane.
7. DT Toby Johnson - 5 star JUCO Massive DT 6'5 and 310 lbs. Was not recruited out of HS but has made a big splash in JUCO and his recent ACL injury has not caused Miami to back off. Prediction 5 out of 10 he is a Cane, hard to compete with SEC money.
8. DT Lavon Hooks - 4 star JUCO DT is 6'2 295 and was actually a B - Ball player in HS. He did not play FB until JUCO so you know he is a quick twitch athlete which is something very sought after at the DT position. A visit is set up for Dec 6th. Prediction 4 out of 10, we will know more after his visit this weekend.
9. TE Beau Sandland - 4 star big TE 6-6 260 JUCO. He is athletic and many could make the comparison to another JUCO TE who came to the canes Jeremy Shockey. He will not go to a SEC school as they do not accept on-line math courses he took. He is from Cali and is worried about our sanctions. Prediction 3 out of 10, West Coast kid we have 4 TE on roster and 3 committed.
10. DT Jaynard Bostwick - an undersized 6'4 280 lb DT 3 star guy from SW FLA. His cousin is Thurston Armbristor we have been his leader the entire time. Prediction 8 out of 10 he is a Cane (conditional offer if other prospects do not commit).
Overall Prediction: At least 5 of the guys on this list will be the last 5 or 6 or so commits we get. There is always the chance another kid can enter the picture late if there are coaching changes or any late de-commitments.

Hassan, nice article. I do have a couple rebuttals.
Sandland: He is visiting this weekend and Canes are at the top of his list, so I say 8 out of 10. Not sure why U think 3 out of 10
Also, no mention of LB Alex Figeroa? He's visiting also and may commit this weekend.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | December 01, 2012 at 06:32 PM
^^^ Friendly rebuttals, of course.

Great job Hassan.

He graduated from UMaine in December 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in child development and family relations
I want to offer my prayers for that lil girl. reminds me of Sean Taylor's lil girl. I hope the team can set up a trust for her.
-------------------------------------------
Willie I replied to you on the last blog.
Ohio I think Fig is a big kid about 6'3 235 but he is projected as a DE and is def behind a few kids there. His grades kept him from getting big offers and most sites do not even list him as having a offer... from anyone.

Thanks for the info Hassan

By following Keith Bryant on Twitter, he is definitly loving the attention and is activily promoting his teamate and rb Spells. FSU could offer to get him like they did with Collins.

Man, is it me or has Uncle Luke been on a UM bashing spree lately?
Posted by: UMike | December 01, 2012 at 07:01 PM
Thanks for the recruiting update. These prospects all look good.
I hope we can sign Alex Collins on NSD.
Posted by: nemo2002 | December 01, 2012 at 07:07 PM
Hassan,
Thanks and thanks for the update. I'm EXCITED about next year.
Off the subject, I think people are sleeping on Antonio Crawford, I think he'll be just as good as Howard. Any insight on that???

this Belchor suicide is crazy. I just saw this last week at thanksgiving I am tired of selfish people hurting themselves and others

Boy, Cooper is a beast, Golden didn't offer the kid soon enough. I hope nothing like happen again
Posted by: caniak | December 01, 2012 at 07:43 PM
Caniac...U don't have a clue.
Golden could not offer a $25K Rolex or a $30K trucK to his best friend that he rides around in when he comes back to the 305.
Next question?

posted earlier, just wanted you guys to know what is up...this one will be for CS. I feel a big win, cause we gonna bring the wood on the O and D lines, and all hell will follow them!!!!
Hey all, we beat Prince George in Round 1 of the Hopewell Bowl last night 24-0, my oldest kids are 13, we beat a 14 year old team. Today we smoked a strong Richmond team 28-0, tomorrow we play Henrico County for the title. We have won the last 2 Hopewell Bowls. Henrico team is an All Star team from West End of Richmond....rich kids rich parents, liberals, Obamaites. They do not clap on a good play, they rattle their jewelry. Their coach asked me did I like 2nd place.....told him I dont know I have only finished 2nd once in the last 6 years, you know These guys are yuk yuks... their league does not have teams like ours. They and their parents like to talk alot. I promise you guys they wont be talking tomorrow. I got their number, watched them beat a weak Colonial Heights team 10-0. Tomorrow they will meet their Waterloo. Their QB asked my QB....the best QB in the county by far...how did it feel to be the N Word!!!! What a smartass jerk racist. I really hate when kids do that...and adults do not control it!!! Thats ok though....we will erase all doubt tomorrow. These guys are weak and loose. I told my guys to stay cool...cause tomorrow we play Apocalypse Now Ball...you know....2 ways home...Death or Victory. I promise we will destroy them....I told my guys we can win 7-0.....but they will carry people off the field for them. My guys are so ready. Sent them home, told them eat good, watch SEC game....I will call each guy and we will be ready. I have never played dirty....but tomorrow we will do some serious hitting between whistles. This ones is for Canespace...and DNo cause he doesnt know how to play like an Assassin!!!!

Coach Golden please get Collins we need to pair him with Duke and start to lighting teams up on the ground and through the air as well. I got all the faith in the world in ya.

Brent Musberger looks 1000 years old-and mentioned how FSU recruits so well in SOFL. hes still an asshole
Posted by: tjl3909 | December 01, 2012 at 08:47 PM
Just finished watching the SEC championship. Looking at the size, speed, and sheer violence at the point of the attack--- we have a long, long way to go. Those two teams look like us years ago. I hope ALGO (AL GOLDEN) stays so we dont have to start ober. The underclassmen we have now are a good start.

Does anyone know when do we play ND next year at home?
Posted by: Da U N Houston | December 01, 2012 at 09:17 PM
I can't find a negative from us having these guys in the weight room.......
Posted by: Da U N Houston | December 01, 2012 at 09:18 PM
Man, recruiting after the season. The perfect time for it.
Why the bust from Tampa didn't spike the ball on first down instead of throwing the completion to the short out that ended up killing the clock dead for them instead of giving them two more shots at the endzone is a perfect example why he'll go down as having never won anything worthwhile in college. Irish/Bama title game? Ratings will be record breaking, so will the amount of vomit ejected at the end of the game around the country no matter who wins.
86, I agree with you, the problems that are obviously apparent with this coaching staff are tiring to discuss every day, but if they weren't there it would be something else, just like at the start of fall camp Seantrel watch got monotonous. But just like that single player fixation in the preseason was a story due to basically the lack of anything else worth discussing due to its primacy to the upcoming part of the football cycle, this off-season is going to be one big question about the defense due to that being the noteworthy story line of 2012, just how bad it was players and coaches.
FSU is cutting through Groh's former play-called scheme like a hot knife through leftover butter tonight. How expected.

Man, if we could get a bigger back + speed (better than Mike James) = Alex Collins with our O-line n " the hottest QB in America" we could really make some noise next yr!!!!!!

Do we anyone that will EE? I thought we had one maybe two spots from last year?
Posted by: Jlott6 | December 01, 2012 at 09:54 PM
Jean Louis will EE and possibly 2 juco kids. We have 3 spots avail for EE
Posted by: hassan | December 01, 2012 at 09:58 PM
So if the EEs count against last year's numbers then the 15 or so number Al gave could be more?
Posted by: Jlott6 | December 01, 2012 at 10:02 PM
Nice, Hassan. Really clean. Good work.

Posted by: Brevardcane | December 01, 2012 at 10:41 PM
What is wrong with Navarro??? The last year was really not his best at the herald...read the comments...Trash journalism...
From GAmepropA 1:
Manny did yo dumbazz really think this article was necessary??? There is nothing new and this notion that Miami is expected to get one or 2 more bowl bans only shows that you are nothing but a TMZ low level beat writer trying to stir up a story to advance your pathetic career.
You are one of the reasons nobody respects S. Florida newspapers..... you are nothing but a joke. You would rather UM sink for a 15 minute story then get passed all this Shapiro bs. SMH pathetic.

Figs did not play this past year. Tote his labrum in a allstar game in July. Was in CC is a full qualifier.
Posted by: hassan | December 01, 2012 at 10:46 PM
WOW Manny getting killed for helping writting that article on the Herald page.
I mean it is all nothing, but old news again, must be a slow sports Saturday.

I was kinda thinking the same thing with that article at the herald. Truly didn't seem like anything new.
Posted by: Brevardcane | December 01, 2012 at 10:48 PM
Btw watching this Fsu GT game...AH we should be playing...I should be drunk in the cold!!! Canes would have had a chance!

Good stuff, Hassan!
I've tried to say nada about the game, but, I just can't let it go- thank God we skipped this one, FSU looks unbeatable. Lol. This was so friggen stupid to skip a chance to win this.
Posted by: j.w. | December 01, 2012 at 11:04 PM
JW you wont be saying that next year when were in this game with 2-3 losses instead and not having to stay home because of a bowl ban or two years from now when we are playing for a title shot and we have to skip it because we played fsu as a 7-5 team who has not business being in a conf champ game
