That is it: I am officially boycotting McDonald's.
Even I have to admit that occasionally I use the drive thru lane at McDonald's for a quick cup of hot coffee or even a greasy cheeseburger or a tasty fish sandwich every once in a while when I am on the road and in a hurry, but I had no idea that at least one UM coach does too.
University of Miami wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator George McDonald also apparently likes the always fast and efficient drive thru lane at the fast food restaurant named after him.
Or at least the one that now apparently exists a The U?
McDonald became the first UM coach on Al Golden's staff to leave his position at Miami when he accepted the same coaching position at the University of Arkansas. New Razorbacks head coach Bret Bielema who was just hired away from Wisconsin selected McDonald to join his staff.
Obviously McDonald's experience in working in and recruiting South Florida was a big factor in the hiring process. As any head coach including Bielema knows, you have to have access to the South Florida talent pipeline if you are going to win and win big in college football.
That fact alone makes all Miami coaches attractive targets to other schools across the Country. As a result, it would not be surprising if other major universities with open coaching positions came calling on other UM position coaches and coordinators during any and every off-season.
With other cash rich conferences always at the door, it is always possible that other UM coaches could be tempted to leave for something we all want in life: more money.
In the current culture that is college football that is just the nature of the beast. It is a beast that UM head coach Al Golden and the UM athletic department will have to try to tame when they can and simply understand and let go of when they can't.
As a small, private institution in the ACC, unfortunately that is reality.
Now, as for replacement candidates we like former UM WR Lamar Thomas who just so happens to be currently coaching wide receivers at Hampton University. Yeah, we like that a lot.
But until then, we are boycotting McDonald's.
GG,,
A lot of bad recruiting is taking place at a LOT of these other schools you mentioned. For example some of them offer EVERYBODY and don't even have room for them, that's throwing out a big net, it's great for the school but what about the kids that get told sorry no more room for you? Some coaches are star gazers too and look at recruiting site's and don't do their own EVALUATIONS. I hope you know that Alabama does not have to get any player less than a 4* unless they want to, they can get all the 4*'s they want. So why would they take a 3* player?? Probably because they believe that he's better than that and under the radar.
But anyways, I was not talking about you in the statement I made earlier I was just trying to make an example. So if I offended you I apologize.
I do this wit a lot of bloggers lol. This was yo initiation.

The Miami Hurricanes opened their Atlantic Coast Conference schedule in near-flawless fashion Thursday night, overpowering the visiting NC State Wolfpack 79-53 at the BankUnited Center.
Miami took early control with a 16-3 run out of the gates, extended its lead to 24 by halftime, and put the Wolfpack away for good with a 14-0 run to start the second frame. Powered by a season-high 21 points from Stefanie Yderstrom, the hosts earned their 47th home win in the last 48 tries.
"Every game is important," Yderstrom said. "In the ACC, anybody can beat anybody, and it's going to be a tough game every game. You have to play hard every game."

No Willie that's not him. I will think of his name in a minute.
Man Jan 18th is turning into one hell of a recruiting weekend.
Adding to the already impressive list is Kirkland -Thomas-Whitfield
Posted by: Mcginns ale house | December 21, 2012 at 01:05 AM
If you count Dobard - Williams-Robinson -foster that's like over a dozen recruits that weekend. They must have something big planned. I hope the Heat are in town!

"My family really wants me here in Miami, especially my momma. Playing early is a big factor too so after seeing a lot of the young guys play this year that's a big deal for me."- Jamal Carter, via Canesinsight

Jan 18th is a big day recruiting wise for our coaches, they better have soemthing good planned.
Posted by: UpNorthCane27 | December 21, 2012 at 09:33 AM
^^^^^^^ Golden would be one of the smartest people ever to schedule Ray Lew II and III the same weekend as these kids, especially Thomas. Ray Lew is Thomas' idol.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | December 21, 2012 at 09:34 AM
Geez RL II there to help recruit MT. Not too shabby. Get RF there as well.
Posted by: Old Skool | December 21, 2012 at 09:37 AM
I'll say this... If Ray Lew II is there when all those kids and parents are, SIGN EM ALL UP!
Ray Lew + Golden recruiting face to face? IT'S OVER FOR OTHER SCHOOLS!
Just pray the Ravens don't make the AFC Champ game, cuz then he won't be able to come.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | December 21, 2012 at 09:40 AM
Also, if U noticed, Kermit Whitfield is visiting. He told Pete Ariz Golden and staff has been to his school the past 2 weeks. Golden making a push for him, hard.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | December 21, 2012 at 09:42 AM
If you noticed most of the guys, like Whitfield, Collins, & AJL were all speed guys that we can't afford to loose. I'd rather those boys come in the weekend before signing day, so we would be fresh on their minds but then again, 80% already have their mind made up and it's nothing more than a vaction on our dime!

Good grief. If the Lewis family gets on campus that weekend, it's OVER.

Would we actually even consider hiring Trooper Taylor as WR coach/recruiter? Really?
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | December 21, 2012 at 10:59 AM
Ohio Cane, two candidates who's name are circulating are Trooper and Cristobal......like both.....Taylor I think would be a GREAT Asset!!!!!!!
Posted by: Da U N Houston | December 21, 2012 at 11:27 AM
"Would we actually even consider hiring Trooper Taylor as WR coach/recruiter? Really?"
There's a lot wrong with that equation, despite the obvious. First of all, Taylor may use UM as a stepping stone to the NFL. Would one 9-10 win season be worth the risk?
Posted by: LB | December 21, 2012 at 11:27 AM
Troops been in the college game forever, especially in the SE plus an A one recruiter.
Posted by: herbieibis | December 21, 2012 at 11:34 AM
trooper can recruit his ass off tho. and reuben foster loves him and is a great coach
Posted by: laquinton | December 21, 2012 at 11:55 AM
Were is trooper from?
Posted by: Jack | December 21, 2012 at 12:09 PM
Cristobal would be a HUGE get! He could eventually take over for Jedd?
Posted by: Jack | December 21, 2012 at 12:14 PM
Trooper coached at Auburn. And if u check his history, he has a good track record. A coach that head coaches try to take when they leave.
But, need to make sure there's no NCCA baggage

Stay away from Trooper the Bagman Taylor nothing but trouble.

Posted by: Da U N Houston | December 21, 2012 at 12:19 PM
Yup, especially if they put that show clause on Him, that'll be like self imposing all over again.
Posted by: CaneRock | December 21, 2012 at 12:25 PM
Too many heads would be scratching if Taylor gets hired, IMO. There are just way too many rumors going on with that guy, if FSU were hiring him we would be all over them for it. Cristobal as a WR coach? Obviously that would be a stepping stone, and I have no problem giving him the job knowing he is going somewhere else as soon as the next offer comes, but doesn't that say a lot about how much you need to know to coach that position? :)
Posted by: j.w. | December 21, 2012 at 12:50 PM
Taylor is NCAA trouble. Not gonna happen.
"In addition to the official announcements of Johnson and Lashlee Friday Morning, AuburnSports.com's Jay G. Tate reported that Malzahn will not retain wide receivers coach Trooper Taylor. Taylor has been a controversial figure at Auburn, being responsible for connecting with many of the Tigers' biggest recruits, but also being seen as playing fast and loose with NCAA rules."
Look I love Cristobal but what does he REALLY know about coaching WR?
C'mon people: THINK!
