Welcome back Country Ass Cane!

Sounds like you truly have grown and had time to step back and put things into perspective. We are all sorry for your loss, and hope that things continue to improve in your life.

I think the greatest thing about a fine leader and coach like yourself, is that you are always looking to improve, whether it be yourself, or your teams & players.

The greatest calling, (and therapy), is service to others, and your ability to mentor and lead your young players is what you should concentrate on. THAT is what will give meaning to your life.

Great to hear from you, please know that your presence has been missed by your CaneSpace brothers and sisters. Welcome back old friend...

VA Cane

Dear U Friends and Family;

VA Cane here. Before I update you, let me say I am very sorry for my inappropriate comments made on CS. I will not single out anybody, as I am certain I offended one and all. I read some of my comments; shameful wrong thoughtless apathetical...and that cannot begin to cover it. From my heart, I am deeply sorry and very ashamed I spoke to my friends and family in such a manner. I should join the legion of life banned folks....that would not be enough for my uncalled for opinions, rants, and remarks. I ask nothing in return for I deserve nothing. You do not have to like me or accept me or this statement; I owe it to each of you to tell you I am sorry and apologize. Its not pleasant to read the words of a man thought of as a leader, mentor, coach, and father to young men when he sounds like an damn fool. Thank you for listening and I hope each of you will know I speak directly to you.

I made it past my Mom's passing....toughest thing I have ever faced in life, the toughest game is the game of life we all play. I have much to do; this had been coming and I was not ready to accept it. After last Friday, I realized how fleeting life can be, yet we all are moving to finality each day. I have found a new peace and serenity as my Mom would have wanted that for me. She saw every game I played in sandlot, HS and college. She saw all of my teams of 34 years play at least once. She was my guide, my mentor, my angel. With her passing, I am no longer lost....I have found a new peace, a new maturity.

I have been fairly busy appraising, and I am starting a new venture of using my real estate knowledge with a long time banking buddy to renovate some homes, as well as purchase then transfer contracts on homes for a fee. Things are looking up. I plan on coaching next year and the talent I am getting is really good. They won the SB at their level so I am getting some good ones.

Again, thank you, each and every one of you for being my family. A special apology to 86 for dealing with me. Also a special apology to Willie and Cane Rock; sorry for being a moron. I wish each of you the very best, and thank you for making my life better. May God bless and hold each of you and yours during this wonderful season. He sent his Son to save us all from ourselves; think of him and his birth. Merry Christmas to each of you, and I will be checking in and commenting in nothing but positve ways.

your friend,

VA Country Ass Cane

Fellow Spacers, I hope everyone has a merry Christmas and a better New Year and that goes for our beloved Canes as well. The Herb is coast bound for a week and won't be making any comments. My mind is fried from worrying about our defense. So I'm taking a much needed sabatical from posting. I've stated my case to AL and I hope he takes it to heart. That's all!

GOOD! for Mike Rumph.

We are right there with FSU and I don't find that the least bit interesting, as a matter of fact it sux!

Very interesting stuff from Football Scoop on Fisher at FSU on the hiring of his new DC:

"In today's game, being able to go back to front is very critical because of the spread. To be able to match your secondary coverages to your fronts and who's going to fit and how they're going to fit, and how you're going to handle certain play actions and how you're going to handle certain coverages."

"I think it's more important to be able to go back to front than it is to go from front to back."

It's time for Donna to go, since her arrival...NCAA scandal in which she was part of "bowling alley pic", 2 fired HC's2, 2 AD that got the F@@K out of Dodge, Jackson Memorial Hospital med school budget, held back info when interviewing regarding the NCAA investigation and finally takes Spiritual advice from Barry Alvarez who's only accomplishment was winning a Rose Bowl in his 20+ years of coaching

2. I believe he might have Donna bent over a barrel...

1. I am sorry but with all due respect, that statement has aboslutely NO validity whatsoever. None, Zero. Nada. Zilch. If U are not aware that Donna is "The Decider" on all things at UM down to the last detail then U have no clue.

2. OK, I don't even want to visualize that.

5shipsago

86',
What Donna thinks, doesn't matter. What the Golden wants, he will get. I believe he might have Donna bent over a barrel, seeing as how, they weren't to mindful of telling him they were being investigated prior to his arrival. I think he holds all the cards right now, or at least until they stumble backwards.

maybe a possibility

Da U N Houston

Not saying those are the only two, but just that Taylor would bring a lot to the table. The problem is, what's under the table.....

86Cane

Baggage or not, specualaation or not, I'd hire him over the Crystalball.

Posted by: 5shipsago | December 21, 2012 at 01:07 PM

Have U shared this with Donna Shalala?

No? Yeah, I didn't think so.

What do U think her response might be?

86Cane

5Ships...U might want to consider that Cristobal and Taylor are NOT the only two candidates for the job, in fact it is very possibly that NEITHER one is.

Now, let me be clear, I am not saying that they are not, I am just saying your need to expand your search to beyond those two.

Oh and the small fact that there a MILLION qualified candidates for the job.

Yeah that too.

5shipsago

Baggage or not, specualaation or not, I'd hire him over the Crystalball. I realize he's a Miami guy but he wasn't a WR. He's a former head coach and looking to be one again. We don't need a revolving door of coaches, that's been our problem for ever! Does Al need a former headcoach looking over his shoulder, not to mention, one that played here? Taylor is good position coach and great recruiter, not good or okay but great. I'm sure Al knows, what's going on or if he is on the up & up. He too, has been a roamer and will be looking for the next big pay day. I'm looking at it for purely recruiting reasons and we needs to be keeping up wiff duh Jonzes, if we want back up front.

86Cane

tay away from Trooper the Bagman Taylor nothing but trouble.

Posted by: Terrance Sullivan | December 21, 2012 at 12:24 PM

THANK U!

One voice of reason above the roaring crowd.

86Cane

Taylor is NCAA trouble. Not gonna happen.

"In addition to the official announcements of Johnson and Lashlee Friday Morning, AuburnSports.com's Jay G. Tate reported that Malzahn will not retain wide receivers coach Trooper Taylor. Taylor has been a controversial figure at Auburn, being responsible for connecting with many of the Tigers' biggest recruits, but also being seen as playing fast and loose with NCAA rules."

Look I love Cristobal but what does he REALLY know about coaching WR?

C'mon people: THINK!

j.w.

Too many heads would be scratching if Taylor gets hired, IMO. There are just way too many rumors going on with that guy, if FSU were hiring him we would be all over them for it. Cristobal as a WR coach? Obviously that would be a stepping stone, and I have no problem giving him the job knowing he is going somewhere else as soon as the next offer comes, but doesn't that say a lot about how much you need to know to coach that position? :)

CaneRock

But, need to make sure there's no NCCA baggage

Trooper coached at Auburn. And if u check his history, he has a good track record. A coach that head coaches try to take when they leave.

But, need to make sure there's no NCCA baggage

trooper can recruit his ass off tho. and reuben foster loves him and is a great coach

Troops been in the college game forever, especially in the SE plus an A one recruiter.

LB

"Would we actually even consider hiring Trooper Taylor as WR coach/recruiter? Really?"

There's a lot wrong with that equation, despite the obvious. First of all, Taylor may use UM as a stepping stone to the NFL. Would one 9-10 win season be worth the risk?

Da U N Houston

Ohio Cane, two candidates who's name are circulating are Trooper and Cristobal......like both.....Taylor I think would be a GREAT Asset!!!!!!!

If you noticed most of the guys, like Whitfield, Collins, & AJL were all speed guys that we can't afford to loose. I'd rather those boys come in the weekend before signing day, so we would be fresh on their minds but then again, 80% already have their mind made up and it's nothing more than a vaction on our dime!

Ohio_Cane

Also, if U noticed, Kermit Whitfield is visiting. He told Pete Ariz Golden and staff has been to his school the past 2 weeks. Golden making a push for him, hard.

Ohio_Cane

I'll say this... If Ray Lew II is there when all those kids and parents are, SIGN EM ALL UP!

Ray Lew + Golden recruiting face to face? IT'S OVER FOR OTHER SCHOOLS!

Just pray the Ravens don't make the AFC Champ game, cuz then he won't be able to come.

Geez RL II there to help recruit MT. Not too shabby. Get RF there as well.

86Cane

The Miami Hurricanes opened their Atlantic Coast Conference schedule in near-flawless fashion Thursday night, overpowering the visiting NC State Wolfpack 79-53 at the BankUnited Center.

Miami took early control with a 16-3 run out of the gates, extended its lead to 24 by halftime, and put the Wolfpack away for good with a 14-0 run to start the second frame. Powered by a season-high 21 points from Stefanie Yderstrom, the hosts earned their 47th home win in the last 48 tries.

"Every game is important," Yderstrom said. "In the ACC, anybody can beat anybody, and it's going to be a tough game every game. You have to play hard every game."

GG,,

A lot of bad recruiting is taking place at a LOT of these other schools you mentioned. For example some of them offer EVERYBODY and don't even have room for them, that's throwing out a big net, it's great for the school but what about the kids that get told sorry no more room for you? Some coaches are star gazers too and look at recruiting site's and don't do their own EVALUATIONS. I hope you know that Alabama does not have to get any player less than a 4* unless they want to, they can get all the 4*'s they want. So why would they take a 3* player?? Probably because they believe that he's better than that and under the radar.

But anyways, I was not talking about you in the statement I made earlier I was just trying to make an example. So if I offended you I apologize.

I do this wit a lot of bloggers lol. This was yo initiation.

Like the CEO says,
Welcome, post here and post often, I think that's how is saying goes lol

G Girard I have enjoyed reading your post.

G.Girard

Its plenty of good players in the NFL that were not 1st or 2nd rounder's and its plenty that were, so it can go either way

You missing my point.

Posted by: Willie Will in Nashville | December 20, 2012 at 04:46 PM

agreed... and I get your point about recruiting ratings clearly. But the Top kids do not go unnoticed by the Top Teams. I don't go by those stupid website ratings. I go by what kids have confirmed offers from the Alabama's, Notre Dame's, Florida's, Florida State's, LSU's, Texas', USC's, Georgia's, Oregon's, Ohio States and Oklahoma's.The recruiting sites, when those teams offer, just bump 2-star kids up to 3-stars and 3-star kids up to 4-star. And when those teams offer, as do we, we rarely if ever get any of those kids in numbers anymore. Sure we get a few here and there, but not enough and that's been our track record for far too long. Conversely, when those teams do not offer, we tend to be in the hunt for those mid-level kids. Not because Scout, Rivals, ESPN and others rate them 2-3 Stars. It's because the top programs don't want nor need them. And we have been getting 10 Top kids along with 20 mid-level projects for far to long now. While the Top teams stack 20 Top kids, that THEY evaluate, and mix in 10 mid-level kids to develop. And of course not all the top kids excel and some projects turn out nicely. But that formula, 10/20 rather than 20/10 over time will not produce and maintain the required depth year after year that is paramount to sustain Championship level Football consistently. It's Top 25-50 6-6/7-5/8-4 Football...

As for the Dolphins, they're a mess. And of course there are Gores and 3-7 rounder's that turn out to be Pro-Bowlers. And I guarantee they were Top-recruited High schoolers heading into college and really good/great College players. Also there are roughly 128 Players drafted in the 4-7 rounds yearly. Many really good players that will turn into stars. And there are 96 players taken yearly in the first 2 rounds. Of course, not all will be Pro-Bowlers, and some will be major busts but I assure you, that a far higher percentage of Top 3 round picks litter Playoff team rosters than not... The same is true with College BCS teams that do THEIR OWN evaluations, which makes them elite.

Listen Willie Will, I'm new here and I'm not trying to chap your ass on this. You seem like a cool fan, like many others here that I'd love to sit down and discuss this and other Cane topics with. It's far more productive than writing it down at the risk of being taken the wrong way or an idiot. I just consider myself a realist that has been attending Cane practices and Games on the sideline compliments of my very good friend and colleague Christ Vagotis and others since '78. This past Spring I remember going to the Spring game and listening to a few fans rage on how this Cane Defense is a group of studs and specimens will absolutely dominate in 2012 again. And I recall thinking to myself, they must be just seeing the uniforms, helmets and the U stickers on them. Because I saw a woefully average, undersized, depthless overall D-Line unit, with a few decent players, that would struggle mightily against average to good O-lines. And it pained me to think that. Having said that. I know for a fact that Coach Al Golden knows exactly what he needs and how to do it. And the very first thing to address is what's the problem and how to fix it. And there is absolutely nothing that a group of very good coaches needs to accomplish that... and that's great players, and a lot of them.

"No Bucks... No Buck Rogers" And we need more 8 and 12 Point Bucks.

Sorry if I offend. I don't mean to. I'm just irked that we get some really, really good talented kids to buy in, then waffle and now have to resell to them... Whooosh Whooosh

86Cane

Chris Carter (I highly doubt) would be ideal!!!!!
