That is it: I am officially boycotting McDonald's.
Even I have to admit that occasionally I use the drive thru lane at McDonald's for a quick cup of hot coffee or even a greasy cheeseburger or a tasty fish sandwich every once in a while when I am on the road and in a hurry, but I had no idea that at least one UM coach does too.
University of Miami wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator George McDonald also apparently likes the always fast and efficient drive thru lane at the fast food restaurant named after him.
Or at least the one that now apparently exists a The U?
McDonald became the first UM coach on Al Golden's staff to leave his position at Miami when he accepted the same coaching position at the University of Arkansas. New Razorbacks head coach Bret Bielema who was just hired away from Wisconsin selected McDonald to join his staff.
Obviously McDonald's experience in working in and recruiting South Florida was a big factor in the hiring process. As any head coach including Bielema knows, you have to have access to the South Florida talent pipeline if you are going to win and win big in college football.
That fact alone makes all Miami coaches attractive targets to other schools across the Country. As a result, it would not be surprising if other major universities with open coaching positions came calling on other UM position coaches and coordinators during any and every off-season.
With other cash rich conferences always at the door, it is always possible that other UM coaches could be tempted to leave for something we all want in life: more money.
In the current culture that is college football that is just the nature of the beast. It is a beast that UM head coach Al Golden and the UM athletic department will have to try to tame when they can and simply understand and let go of when they can't.
As a small, private institution in the ACC, unfortunately that is reality.
Now, as for replacement candidates we like former UM WR Lamar Thomas who just so happens to be currently coaching wide receivers at Hampton University. Yeah, we like that a lot.
But until then, we are boycotting McDonald's.
tay away from Trooper the Bagman Taylor nothing but trouble.

One voice of reason above the roaring crowd.

Baggage or not, specualaation or not, I'd hire him over the Crystalball. I realize he's a Miami guy but he wasn't a WR. He's a former head coach and looking to be one again. We don't need a revolving door of coaches, that's been our problem for ever! Does Al need a former headcoach looking over his shoulder, not to mention, one that played here? Taylor is good position coach and great recruiter, not good or okay but great. I'm sure Al knows, what's going on or if he is on the up & up. He too, has been a roamer and will be looking for the next big pay day. I'm looking at it for purely recruiting reasons and we needs to be keeping up wiff duh Jonzes, if we want back up front.

5Ships...U might want to consider that Cristobal and Taylor are NOT the only two candidates for the job, in fact it is very possibly that NEITHER one is.
Now, let me be clear, I am not saying that they are not, I am just saying your need to expand your search to beyond those two.
Oh and the small fact that there a MILLION qualified candidates for the job.
Yeah that too.

Have U shared this with Donna Shalala?
No? Yeah, I didn't think so.
What do U think her response might be?
Posted by: 86Cane | December 21, 2012 at 01:19 PM
Not saying those are the only two, but just that Taylor would bring a lot to the table. The problem is, what's under the table.....

86',
What Donna thinks, doesn't matter. What the Golden wants, he will get. I believe he might have Donna bent over a barrel, seeing as how, they weren't to mindful of telling him they were being investigated prior to his arrival. I think he holds all the cards right now, or at least until they stumble backwards.

1. I am sorry but with all due respect, that statement has aboslutely NO validity whatsoever. None, Zero. Nada. Zilch. If U are not aware that Donna is "The Decider" on all things at UM down to the last detail then U have no clue.
2. OK, I don't even want to visualize that.

It's time for Donna to go, since her arrival...NCAA scandal in which she was part of "bowling alley pic", 2 fired HC's2, 2 AD that got the F@@K out of Dodge, Jackson Memorial Hospital med school budget, held back info when interviewing regarding the NCAA investigation and finally takes Spiritual advice from Barry Alvarez who's only accomplishment was winning a Rose Bowl in his 20+ years of coaching

Name one thing she has done to your gain your support with her handling of athletic department? Donna maybe not ANTI football but she ain't leading the charge to getting us back to the top, How many football studs wanted to go the U but couldn't get passed Donna's admission standard, keep in mind they players are smart for the NCAA standards

Very interesting stuff from Football Scoop on Fisher at FSU on the hiring of his new DC:
"In today's game, being able to go back to front is very critical because of the spread. To be able to match your secondary coverages to your fronts and who's going to fit and how they're going to fit, and how you're going to handle certain play actions and how you're going to handle certain coverages."
"I think it's more important to be able to go back to front than it is to go from front to back."

Fellow Spacers, I hope everyone has a merry Christmas and a better New Year and that goes for our beloved Canes as well. The Herb is coast bound for a week and won't be making any comments. My mind is fried from worrying about our defense. So I'm taking a much needed sabatical from posting. I've stated my case to AL and I hope he takes it to heart. That's all!

Dear U Friends and Family;
VA Cane here. Before I update you, let me say I am very sorry for my inappropriate comments made on CS. I will not single out anybody, as I am certain I offended one and all. I read some of my comments; shameful wrong thoughtless apathetical...and that cannot begin to cover it. From my heart, I am deeply sorry and very ashamed I spoke to my friends and family in such a manner. I should join the legion of life banned folks....that would not be enough for my uncalled for opinions, rants, and remarks. I ask nothing in return for I deserve nothing. You do not have to like me or accept me or this statement; I owe it to each of you to tell you I am sorry and apologize. Its not pleasant to read the words of a man thought of as a leader, mentor, coach, and father to young men when he sounds like an damn fool. Thank you for listening and I hope each of you will know I speak directly to you.
I made it past my Mom's passing....toughest thing I have ever faced in life, the toughest game is the game of life we all play. I have much to do; this had been coming and I was not ready to accept it. After last Friday, I realized how fleeting life can be, yet we all are moving to finality each day. I have found a new peace and serenity as my Mom would have wanted that for me. She saw every game I played in sandlot, HS and college. She saw all of my teams of 34 years play at least once. She was my guide, my mentor, my angel. With her passing, I am no longer lost....I have found a new peace, a new maturity.
I have been fairly busy appraising, and I am starting a new venture of using my real estate knowledge with a long time banking buddy to renovate some homes, as well as purchase then transfer contracts on homes for a fee. Things are looking up. I plan on coaching next year and the talent I am getting is really good. They won the SB at their level so I am getting some good ones.
Again, thank you, each and every one of you for being my family. A special apology to 86 for dealing with me. Also a special apology to Willie and Cane Rock; sorry for being a moron. I wish each of you the very best, and thank you for making my life better. May God bless and hold each of you and yours during this wonderful season. He sent his Son to save us all from ourselves; think of him and his birth. Merry Christmas to each of you, and I will be checking in and commenting in nothing but positve ways.
your friend,
VA Country Ass Cane

Welcome back Country Ass Cane!
Sounds like you truly have grown and had time to step back and put things into perspective. We are all sorry for your loss, and hope that things continue to improve in your life.
I think the greatest thing about a fine leader and coach like yourself, is that you are always looking to improve, whether it be yourself, or your teams & players.
The greatest calling, (and therapy), is service to others, and your ability to mentor and lead your young players is what you should concentrate on. THAT is what will give meaning to your life.
Great to hear from you, please know that your presence has been missed by your CaneSpace brothers and sisters. Welcome back old friend...
