Hassan, OGV and co. great to have you back.

Barry Jackson:
### The NCAA delayed (for a day or two) scheduled Monday calls to former UM coaches and staffers to tell them what they’re charged with. Meanwhile, we confirmed at least five former Canes players ended up talking to the NCAA after the NCAA mailed them an ultimatum to do so.

Attorney Bruce Fleisher said his two clients – whom he wouldn’t identify -- spoke to the NCAA, before an extended Jan. 3 deadline, and they said they received no benefits from Nevin Shapiro. “In order for them to continue going on the UM campus, they had to give statements to the NCAA,” Fleisher said. “None of these guys wanted to be banned from that activity.”

### The UM basketball program, also awaiting potential allegations, is the only team with a Top 10 RPI ranking (fifth) that’s not in the AP Top 10. But it's more irritating that that.

In fact, UM (12-3) isn’t even in the top 25. Miami was eighth in "others receiving votes," which would place it 33rd.

Conversely, Syracuse is sixth in the AP poll but 13th in RPI, well behind Miami.

Jim Larranaga isn’t angry because he knows RPI -- which places strong emphasis on strength of schedule -- weighs more heavily than ranking with the selection committee.

“The thing that makes them dangerous is they’re old,” Maryland coach Mark Turgeon said. “That team fits together. They’ve got shooters, some inside presence.

Defensively, they’re good. Shane Larkin is really good, kind of makes them go.”

Wow...that Barry Jackson peice CaneRock just posted....well...nevermind lol

Congrats! to Marc Trestman, the new HC of the Chicago Bears.

That makes 3 former coaches from the U, who are now HCs in the NFL.

Good grief. So unless former UM players allow the NCAA to extort information from them, they're not allowed on campus?

Ohio_Cane

@CaneSport: Interesting development ... UM making big headway w/ Rashard Robinson. Think it'll B enough 2 land him from LSU? http://t.co/QGIKDK4k

Lol....

DeployedDiehardCane

Ohio, think Alex (Collins) will be a cane when all said and done? Him and 6 are the keys to this recruiting year imo.

4 indeed.
We need to add that to our accolades, the next time we do a PSA to these recruits.

Ohio_Cane

Pete Ariz - -Watch out for RB/FB Augustus Edwards from Staten Island, New York. I exchanged messages with him earlier today and he will be visiting on February 1st. Edwards was a long-time Syracuse commitment before Doug Marrone took the Head Coach position for the Buffalo Bills. He has opened up his recruitment and told me that Miami, Rutgers, and FSU are the three schools in the mix for him. According to Edwards, Miami offered him last spring and it is his "dream school" (cue the responses to that comment). Even if Miami feels confident with Alex Collins, I wouldn't be surprised to see them take a commitment from Edwards if he wanted to pull the trigger. He is in the mold of Florida State senior Lonnie Pryor, where he can add another dimension out of the backfield from the fullback spot. A possible Najeh Davenport type threat?

I believe so, yes. Both of them should be Canes. It's no lock, obviously. But I'm pretty confident on both

Ohio_Cane

Looky, looky, looky, everyone is FINALLY on the "Rashard Robinson to UM" train. Only about 3-4 weeks late.

86, when did I email U that? 3 weeks ago?

Brevardcane

So is Coley out because of numbers or just BFF at FSU?

A bit of both, I think. Not really sure on what went down there. Didn't follow Coley too much as his commitment would've just been a nice luxury this year.

CaneRock

"He has opened up his recruitment and told me that Miami, Rutgers, and FSU are the three schools in the mix for him."

FSU?!
WTF!
Hmmm!
Smells like they got somebody workin' on the inside, I wouldn't put it past em' in this day and age.

UMike

Im starting to wonder if FSU is going after guys JUST because Miami is..not the big name guys..but some of these other guys like Kerr, Edwards etc..they have the schollies to throw away and if they flip a few they can hold it over our head when recruiting

CaneRock

Edwards does look intriguing though, although I would question the quality of competition He faces in NY.
But then again, Stephen McGuire was a helluva back, and He was a straight up Brooklynite.

CoCane

So what's happened that's causing so much doubt with Coley? Just a feeling or something solid?

UMike

From what I understand he tried to commit to UM like 6 months ago and we said no based on either grade or character issues..maybe both. IDK if that is still the case, or if he is just leaning towards FSU..he might not like our new WR coach lol

Because Jimbo's an @-Hole, that's why LOL.

But you know what, it's gonna be interesting to see if Jimbo can REALLY! recruit, after getting all these top ranked classes handed to Him these last few years.

And when I say REALLY! recruit, I mean can He find His OWN talent, like AG did with a Gabe Terry,Alex Figueroa,Eddie Johnson,etc..

My opinion, I don't think He can do it, straight up.

Montreal_Cane

Congrats! to Marc Trestman, the new HC of the Chicago Bears.

Yes Trestman really helped Kosar and he did a great job in Montreal.

Pete Ariz did an interview with Bball signee Deandre Burnett, brother of Dalvin Cook:

Miami football fans are also interested in Burnett because his brother, Dalvin Cook from Miami Central, is one of the top players in the country for next season. Cook is currently committed to Clemson, but Burnett has high hopes that will change.

“Every time I talk to him I just tell him why not make it a big family thing at the University of Miami right at home with a very known football program. It’s not a sure thing he will go to Clemson, and I have another year to change his mind. I also tell him to just remain focused and keep his eyes on the goal in life.”

LOVE IT!

First, we should never have been in this place with Robinson to begin with. I know Golden is a great recruiter but offering a kid a ship and then putting him on ice until mid December after he already has verballed to LSU, and then showing him all kind of love, is like playing Russian Roulet. I realize this goes on everywhere. Someone steals somthing from you and you steal something from someone else. What irks me and has irked me for a couple of years, is our DT position. Having a bunch of bodies, doesn't get it for me. Like the old Wendy's commercial, "Where's the beef"! Hey the bigger the better. We monkied around with Bryant, thinking he was all wrapped up like a christmas present, and then he goes and drops us. All of a sudden it's time to start offering more DT's a ship. Sorry Al, it's one thing to offer a kid a ship, it's another to make him feel like he's really needed.
We are not where we need to be yet in terms of nat'l relevance, so we can't get away with tossing a kid a ship at the last minute and think we are mighty Miami, he should be honored and we'll get him. Yes, we will get some glamor boys to come and visit the last 2 weekends before signing day, we always do but mostly it's a vacation for those guys. I not interested in turning a tweener prospect from the Memphis States of the world or some other loser school to come join us, I'm interested in seeing us turn some dam talent from the the big boys, like Bama, LSU, etc, to come join us, that's when you know you are back on top. One defensive tackle is not enough we need 2. We need depth at CB and we need depth (of talent) at LB. If we get Coley or not I ain't crying. Hell we got 15 WR's, although no ones been too consistant. We need a bigger back and whether it's Collins or Edwards or both, that's great but there is also a chance we get neither, then what, i guess we steal a back from FIU. What happens if Bostwick doesn't have the grades and Bryant goes to FSU, then what, we steal a kid from the Tulane's of the world? We are close, I can feel it. We can't keep settling for medicracy in recruiting because that's what's got us in the position, we've been in. I don't like looking a bunch of NR'S beside a kids name. Simply put he's a tweener. With this small a class, we already have to many of those and ships are tight.

86, just FYI, I'm AGAIN all in for NSD here on the Space. Got the ok with work for the day off and with the wife as well (which was more difficult than work lol)

So I'll be on here on Feb 6th starting around 6 am until all of them are "Signed, Sealed, and Delivered".

I'll be manning as much as possible, including updates here (First), then twitter, with the live feeds running in the background from my command center that I manufacture every year.

Aaand with those two consecutive posts I can't help but stop LMAO at the thought of three of the most overrated football figures of the modern era all being pelted to death by a hail of batteries thrown by Flyer fans when they all flame out in spectacular fashion collected together on one sideline for the entire world to see. Ron Mexico can be all like, "I once got blown out for a national title in college and then beat Brett Farve before everybody realized he was all washed up," Kelly, "I took Oregon to Rose Bowls just like my two predecessors before me but one time I had a team that couldn't tackle a scat-back so that's why I have this job," and Tebow, well, he won't really say anything, more like lisp some platitude about how awesome not playing a different position is and then he'll kneel while too many people click on a story about it on the internet. Maybe they can sign McNabb as the third string and play the Rocky theme when Tebow gets more CTE on a designed run and he has to take the field the week Ron Mexico has a flare up and can't start.

Actually, there's a .1% chance of a Kelly hurry up zone read shotgun backfield of Mexico/Teblow/McNabb working like a charm and being unstoppable next year so maybe I shouldn't be giving them any wacky(ier) ideas.

It's just a matter of time before a majority of these pro teams all switch to some form of spread. While the spread is entertaining offensively, it doesn't really prepare QB's to play in a pro-style offense, that those traditionalist have loved for ever. The pro-style QB, is getting to be a thing of the past. There aren't many colleges still running it or a true form of it. The problem in the pros their not going to spend 20 mill. a year for their QB to end up like RG3, with his leg dangling like a broken tree branch in the wind. They'll eventually get to a point where all the back-ups will be former spread QB's. The Brady's and Mannings of the world will become extinct.
