When your University of MIami men's basketball team squares off against the #1 ranked Duke Blue Devils in an ACC college basketball game on Wednesday night in Coral Gables that will almost certainly be as good as it gets.
Maybe an appropriate question to ask is: "Can it get any better than this?"
It is not often that the top-ranked college basketball team in the Nation comes to play at the Bank United Center (BUC) on the lovely, topically landscaped UM campus in sunny South Florida.
And even when they do it is not often that they will face a nationally ranked (#25) University of Miami hoops team that just might beat the devil out of a national power like Duke.
But on Wednesday night, in the crazed atmosphere of a rocking, frolicking BUC, anything can happen and it probably will.
Oh yes, we definitely believe it will. And we have never, ever been wrong.
OK, there was that one time, or maybe ten, but who is counting anyway?
GO CANES, BEAT THE BLUE DEVILS!!!
First

What did I miss?

No to any FSU offensive assistants. That offense is why they're still not 'back' yet right now, Dumbo's grab bag of spread principles mixed in with the Gulf Coast offense leftovers from the 90's is hardly inspiring.
IMO, grab a David Shaw affiliated assistant and hope for the best.
SOUP, you be taking in some pimping tomorrow I'm guessing?

It's great to see the Canes ball team in such a big game. They deserve it.

Coach L is doing a great job with Frank Haith's recruits. Amazing what insisting on aggressive defense will do for a basketball team.
Coach L is the goods.

OGV...I never thought of that? LOL

January 22nd 2013 From AP and The Miami Herald with John Infante former compliance officer at NCAA Division I schools
From AP
Associated Press Got It Correct Miami Reported Shapiro way before the Yahoo article.
The University of Miami turned in Shapiro to the NCAA two months before Yahoo published it's initial article.
"Shapiro, the former booster, is serving a 20-year sentence in federal prison for masterminding a $930 million Ponzi scheme. All of the individuals who were named by Shapiro in his detailed claims that were published by Yahoo Sports are no longer at the university. The NCAA inquiry started several months before that August 2011 article."
John Infant is a former compliance officer at NCAA Division I schools here is his take on the Miami investigation from the Miami Herald:
Miami is reaching a certain level of cooperation that has significance in the NCAA investigation where they might get a break on a penalty as a result."
From Manny Navarro at the Herald: Former coach Randy Shannon has not linked to any of this. In fact, we've heard stories and its been reported he was telling his players and coaches to stay away from Nevin Shapiro. Does that help Miami's football program in this case considering it appears Haith was involved with Shapiro?
"It certainly does help. We've seen Shannon not being named in any of the violations and him not facing any unethical conduct or failing to promote an atmosphere of compliance charges. Because he is the head coach, he is supposed to be the one as the direct link to the administration and what they do in terms of monitoring and applying compliance.
Part 1
Posted by: Montreal-Cane | January 22, 2013 at 07:27 PM
Part 2
Would exceptional cooperation be telling former athletes that if they didn't cooperate they wouldn't be allowed back on the sidelines? We've heard that and our Barry Jackson reported that last week.
"If they were able to get people who normally wouldn't have replied to the NCAA or allowed themselves to be interviewed by the NCAA and Miami helped make that happen -- especially athletes UM has no jurisdiction over -- that's going above and beyond what the NCAA asks on the case. That may lead to a lessening of penalties
That's when you see something like exceptional cooperation. It could be that [the NCAA is] giving [Miami] a little bit of praise.
Miami's cooperation is considered better and the coaches don't perform well in the hearing that could lead to the COI sort of finding that in spite of institutional failings by Miami this was more the coaches fault and bring the penalties down on the coaches more than on the institution -- especially considering the three post-season bans the [football program] has already imposed."
The COI will impose other penalties they see fit and not go into any further post-season bans. If they did that's something Miami would probably appeal."

For those who underestimate the contribution of sophomore Clive Wafford, a comparison of his production to the top Canes TEs over the last 10 years is interesting, albeit Wafford accomplished his during the most productive passing year:
2012
Clive Walford 25 451 18.0 65 (TD) 4
2009
Dedrick Epps 19 247 13.0 33 (TD) 3
Jimmy Graham 17 213 12.5 22 5
2008
Dedrick Epps 22 304 13.8 69 (TD) 2
2006
Greg Olsen 40 489 12.2 41 (TD) 1
2005
Greg Olsen 31 451 14.5 63 4
2004
Kevin Everett 23 310 13.5 57 0
Greg Olsen 16 275 17.2 51 1

I meant last 8 years. The 2003, Winslow had 60 catches for about 600 yards, but they had no good WRs and the Canes wer still in the Big East.

The rebound was as large as the UNIVERSE!

Big Windy- What you compare his stats to is absolutely true, but from a game-by-game standpoint, he hasn't been too impressive. If he showed consistent production, we would ALL like that. We would all like that a lot haha.
2012- Clive Walford 25 451 18.0 65 (TD) 4
Broken down into:
KSU, USF, Duke- 10 295 29.5 65 (TD) 3
Other 9 games- 15 156 10.4 30 (TD) 1

WWiN, I usually always make sense and I'm a free man, TYVM. Honestly, The, not mine, the, Pimp is about to match-up with the greatest of all time so he'll be lucky to escape with his face unadjusted when that's over and I'm just hoping he can salvage some street cred against Hamilton over the weekend personally.
Ah, the Failures gooning it up like a bunch of jabronies when they get blown out, I recognize this sport now! NHL hockey! Welcome back!

Windy-
Yea I feel like we'll see some more 2 TE packages with Clive and Beau. With AG being a TE I feel like that position is gonna be better as the years go on.

Congratulations to my favorite player, #11, for getting the Panthers job. You best believe he'll be back at UM for some point.
Walford's stats mask the fact that he wasn't that big of a threat. Outside of the three games previously mentioned, it wasn't there.
Graham had one year of college football and he scored 5 TD's. Olsen had 71 catches in two years, thus making the two FEARED entities.
Dobard has been touted as "the beast" of 2013 class for MONTHS, and I'm inclined to believe it. Add in the top JUCO TE (Sandland) offered by practically every major NCAA school...
...things are going to get just nasty. Oh, and these two are entering early.
Prediction: one of these two are going to start Game 1, and by Game 5... they will be 1 & 2 on the depth chart.
Predictions:
Jermaine Grace: UM
Jaynard Bostwick: UM
Alex Collins: UM
Keef Bryant: FIU
Matt Thomas: UM
Denver Kirkland: Prep, then Marshall
Stacy Coley: FSU
Rashard Robinson: LSU

Shannon = integrity and good character ! I truly was rooting for him his first 3.5 years!! It seems to me Randy Shannon did promote the proper atmosphere and it was a few rouge coaches breaking the "ridiculous rules"
Player's need to form a union and negotiate pay and these ridiculous rules with the NCAA. As a cunsumer of college football I am tired of all these NCAA investigations!
Posted by: Jack | January 23, 2013 at 08:30 AM
"it was a few rouge coaches breaking the "ridiculous rules"
Lord. I just had a vision in my head of Hurtt and those other stooges singing Moulin Rouge.

Kirkland has the grades. No need for prep school.
I don't think Standish even plays right away. Walford has developed steadily & after another off season of training, he'll be too developed for Standish to take his spot this year. I could see Sandland starting & Walford completing the 1, 2 punch.
Dobard will be groomed to be Olsen or Dewey's toy in the flats & seams. Imo
Posted by: CoCane | January 23, 2013 at 08:56 AM
Co, 2 TE sets = Clive and Standish/Beau. Mix and match. Especially being an EE, he'll play. A good bit, too.

For those who haven't seen, Jeremy Kerr decommitted. No surprise. UMike and I said this a week or two ago, as well as numerous others on other sites.
Being pushed out to make room for someone else, IMO. Most likely on defensive side of the ball.

Ohio...I also think Golden saw the writing on the wall and there was no way he was going to have him flip on NSD..imo or course.
