Take my advice: This is going to be one wild ride!
Another National Signing Day (NSD) is just around the corner and just like the opening ceremony at the Olympic Games every few years you never know quite what to expect. However, we can be almost certain that head games, hat games, misdirection plays, double switches and some dirty dealing and double crossing are definitely on the agenda.
The only thing that is clear is that at some designated time in the early morning hours of Wednesday, February 6 the NCAAwill declare NSD open for business at college campuses all around the Nation with what basically amounts to a loud proclamation of: "Let the Games begin!"
Fax machines will begin to whir as they spring to life with what is the life blood of any college football team: A National Letter of Intent (NOI) from high school seniors and JUCO players across the Country.
Both coaches and fans alike will alternately cheer and curse as the news of who signs where comes out in rapid-fire succession as each NOI is received and formally approved by the compliance departments at each school. Spontaneous celebrations of joy will break out and a few cell phones will be smashed in mad desperation about the one that got away.
To follow the fast-paced action, of course you can tune into Canespace as our recruiting gurus will be on hand all day to report each official "Welcome to The U!" as it is announced. In addition, we strongly encourage Hurricane fans to check out these exciting options that the University of Miami athletic department is offering Hurricane fans on NSD 2013:
Both HurricaneSports.com and ESPN3 will provide live Signing Day Coverage of the Miami Hurricanes footballprogram. The Voice of the Miami Hurricanes, Joe Zagacki, and color analyst Don Bailey Jr. will host a live Signing Day show from 8:30-10 a.m. on HurricaneSports.comas NLIs begin rolling in on Wed., Feb. 6. ESPN3 will then pick up national coverage from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.Joe Z and DBJ will interview head coach Al Goldenand the Hurricanes assistant coaches in addition to Miami’s early enrollees and some of its current stars. As Miami receives each NLI, HurricaneSports.com will have video highlights, recruiting rankings and assistant coaches on camera to talk about the Hurricanes’ Class of 2013 additions.
Coach Golden will address the media for National Signing Day press conference at 4 p.m., followed by the Hurricanes’ Fan Signing Day Party from 5-7 p.m. at Buffalo Wild Wings in Sunset Place.
However you choose to spend your National Signing Day we recommend that you buckle up tight. It is sure to be one wild and crazy ride all day long.
I hope I am wrong, but I think Collins goes to Arkansas. Something about his coach/mentor/adoptive father and his relationship with the Arkansas coaches just doesnt give me a good vibe. I also think we loose out on Bostwick and Keef. BUT, we get Matthews, Grace, Kirkland, Coley a couple others...imo of course.
Posted by: UMike | January 31, 2013 at 10:05 AM
^^^ I mean Matthew Thomas, not "matthews" lol
Posted by: UMike | January 31, 2013 at 10:07 AM
This may change in a day or two..but here are some of my predictions...
Matthew Thomas - Miami
Denver Kirkland - Miami
J. Grace. - Miami
Stacey Coley - Miami
Edwards - Miami
Bryant - FSU
Collins - Arkansas
Bostwick - Florida
Cunningham - Stanford

UMike,
If Collins goes to Arkansas, he will be the 2013 version of Jacoby Brissett. Basically going to the wrong school for the wrong reasons and passing up the opportunity to play almost immediately. If Collins wants to play now, have a great situation and he has thought this through he goes to Miami...period.

Boy, this is as dumb as you can get. Play for San Fran and dis gays. That's right up there with Ozzie praising Fidel in Miami.
"I don't do the gay guys man," said Culliver (per Yahoo! Sports). "I don't do that. No, we don't got no gay people on the team, they gotta get up out of here if they do.
"Can't be with that sweet stuff. Nah…can't be…in the locker room man. Nah."
Posted by: Old Skool | January 31, 2013 at 10:17 AM
Uh that's DB Chris Culliver speaking. He's madly trying to find reverse gear right now.

I agree..although he may have a little more success than Brissett.

Why would ANYONE from FLORIDA want to play for ARKANSAS?
Why would ANYONE from ANYWHERE want to play for ARKANSAS?
I just don't get it!

I just read that Arkansas had an in home visit with Collins Tuesday, but offered another RB Wednesday..could be good sign if true
Posted by: UMike | January 31, 2013 at 11:14 AM
A former Arkansas assistant coach once told Osceola (Ark.) running back Korliss Marshall, "I want to recruit you. You're good enough to play in the SEC. Give me a reason to recruit you."
Over the last year or so, Marshall has been working on giving teams a reason. He dedicated himself to becoming a better student, a better teammate and an overall better person. That hard work paid off on Wednesday when Arkansas head coach Bret Bielema told him the home state Razorbacks were ready to extend an offer...
Posted by: UMike | January 31, 2013 at 11:19 AM
Arkansas has no other RB commits..so it may not mean anything at all.
Posted by: UMike | January 31, 2013 at 11:19 AM
UMike, Ark is going hard after Altee Tenpenny, unless they're recruiting him for a different position.
Actually, 4/6 "experts" are picking him to Ark over Bama
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | January 31, 2013 at 11:22 AM
LSU and Michigan both have 16 4-Star recruits..that is a lot lol

He has been a Bama commit for over a year..nut Arkansas had their visit after Bama..but it doesnt mean they dont want 2-3 RB's this class
Posted by: UMike | January 31, 2013 at 11:25 AM
Marshall is a 3-star RB currently committed to Central Arkansas..Arkansas is his only major offer..I bet he bites lol

Yeah but a lot of those are the result of the combination of a healthy dose of dear antler extract spray and affiliated fan subscription numbers so they don't really mean that much when you take those two factors into consideration UMike.

NEW ORLEANS – Six-foot-eight-inch Bryant McKinnie, towering above everyone else in the Superdome, smiled and shared a joke about his old college team.
"We used to say if one of us didn't get to the Super Bowl," the former Miami Hurricane and current Baltimore Ravens offensive lineman said Tuesday, "we'd all take a pay cut and play for the Dolphins."
No need for that plan now. McKinnie and his Ravens teammate Ed Reed, another former 'Cane, will both play in Super Bowl XLVII on Sunday. So will Frank Gore, for the San Francisco 49ers. They were all on the same 2001 Miami Hurricanes roster that many consider the best collection of college talent of all time. And they are all stars.
In a league where the average career lasts four years, these three former college teammates continue to dominate more than a decade later.
And they're hardly alone.

Thanks Ohio!
And by the way, I was inspired and had the idea to write about this one because of what I've seen on this board.
I don't post as much as you guys because I like to see everything Miami fans are talking about. I'll throw in my two cents once in a while, but trust me guys, I have read every comment since I met 86.
Appreciate all the help and if any of you have an idea that you want to see written about, just comment here on CS or tweet at me.
Appreciate it guys!

86...I say we play a game, like our "Legends of the Fall" with recruiting predictions. List 5-10 targets and whoever wants to play just predicts where they will go. The person with the most right wins something..or just bragging rights lol
Posted by: UMike | January 31, 2013 at 11:58 AM
Something interesting I found out in a journalism class today. I met a kid who loves The U and played with both Duke Johnson and Allen Hurns in high school at Norland and Carol City.

Now that the alexander twins are not a package deal... Do you think the better twin ends up at Miami as a surprise committment??? Ohio whats the word on that
Posted by: UpNorthCane27 | January 31, 2013 at 12:04 PM
UpNorth, highly doubtful either Alexander comes. Barring a miracle, that is.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | January 31, 2013 at 12:04 PM
No way..Miami has been out of it with Alexander for a while now.

SHEEZ!
Ohio_Cane, what do you know about George Williams out of Hialeah?
Posted by: CaneRock | January 31, 2013 at 01:00 PM
I'll tell U what, call me biased, call me an Al Golden homer, call me whatever U want, I think Golden is actually orchestrating a huge marketing ploy for UM on NSD.
Take from this what U will:
We have 9 guys that COULD pick us. 8 of them are announcing on NSD, on live TV, on one of the major networks (ESPN and ESPNU)
The other 1 out of those 9 (Collins) is announcing on Fox Sports up in Atlanta.
Add to that, Golden set up live coverage with ESPN from 11-12:30 (right in the heart of NSD)
I may be wrong, but I think Golden KNOWS this is going to be a HUGE day for UM, and is planning it to work out to show the country what he's building.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | January 31, 2013 at 01:01 PM
Williams is a 3-star guy..kinda short at 5'11. He has a Miami offer (not sure if its a "committable" offer) along with plenty of other big names. Florida and FSU have NOT offered..although Im surprised FSU didnt once Miami did lol

Not a lot, really regarding recruiting. Hasn't been on any of UM's radars for a while, from what I've read.
He has an offer, but not sure if it's committable or not. Haven't heard his name in months.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | January 31, 2013 at 01:06 PM
Ohio..I definitely think we get some of our targets otherwise Golden would never go live, can you imagine how that would hurt to be live and get rejected over and over? I dont think we get them all, as I said earlier, but no doubt Golden knows something.
Posted by: UMike | January 31, 2013 at 01:06 PM
Beat me to that Williams response, UMike. Lol, nice
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | January 31, 2013 at 01:07 PM

Thanks UMike and OC.
But MAN!, lookin' at His YT stuff, no way in HELL! that boy's a 3 star.
Kid reminds me of Denzel.
Posted by: CaneRock | January 31, 2013 at 01:12 PM
CaneRock...I have seen anything on him, BUT I do know, or think, Golden went into this year thinking he would have a very small, very specific class and that left a lot of worthy guys on the outside looking in. If the kid had a couple more offers from some big boys he might be a 4-star. Hes height might hurt him also in that regard.

Dam Doping, Daliances and Shapiro ...
sports news seems to be about everything but competition.
Here's the latest bombshell: Dan Marino pulled a QB sneak off the field and scored ... He's got a 7 year old daughter with a former production assistant at CBS Sports’. Apparently, Dashing Dan spent his spare time calling more than Maroone.
