Canes' RB Duke Johnson becomes target of Twitter thug after commenting on LeSean McCoy's baby mama drama

From the zany world of Twitter here's a new story making the rounds: UM running back Duke Johnson apparently became a target of one of LeSean McCoy's twitter followers for publicly voicing his opinion on the Eagles' star running back's baby mama drama.

BlackSportsOnline first got wind of the story Sunday and now it's spreading after a few retweets. Here is a link to the story and the details.

In a nutshell, Johnson criticized McCoy publicly -- as other athletes have -- for his public battle with his ex-girlfriend. One of McCoy's fans @John082583 then began attacking Duke for his comments.

Johnson hasn't paid much attention to it. His response on Twitter: "My mom always told me beware of the Internet thugs....✌"
UM fans have of course come to Duke's defense.

It will be interesting to see if UM coach Al Golden says anything about this. He's been pretty lenient on guys having Twitter accounts.

UM releases statement on baseball strength coach Jimmy Goins

Unless you've been sleeping for three days you know by now a new scandal involving performance-enhancing drugs and a long list of major league baseball players and a Miami clinic has been in the news lately.

The Miami New Times released a report of a lengthy three-month investigation Tuesday morning and listed among the names of clients who allegedly purchased PEDs from this clinic: Jimmy Goins, a longtime University of Miami baseball and track and field strength and conditioning coach.

Goins, who has been at UM for the last nine years, is recorded in multiple client lists according to Tuesday's New Times story. "In one detailed page dated December 14, 2011, [Biogenesis owner Tony] Bosch writes he's selling [Goins] Anavar, testosterone, and a Winstrol/B-12 mix and charging him $400 a month," the story said. "Another [report] from this past December includes sales of HGH and testosterone."

It's not clear in the report whether or not Goins was a runner for former UM players also named in this report (Cesar Carrillo and Yasmani Grandal) and former South Florida baseball stars (Alex Rodriguez and Gio Gonzalez) or if he was supplying current players with PEDs. UM isn't commenting on anything right now. The feds are investigating.

But Goins, who was listed on UM's baseball roster as of Tuesday morning, is no longer there.

“The University of Miami is aware of media reports regarding one of our employees and an intensive review is underway," the school told The Miami Herald this afternoon. "We will not comment further on personnel matters."

Stay tuned for more on this story.

WHOO HOO we got us a punter boys

Barnard, who is ranked as the 6th-best punter nationally by KornblueKicking.com, is hoping to earn a scholarship in the future as he’ll be in a battle for the starting job this season after Dalton Botts graduated.

“Coach told me if I win the spot and do well then I will get a scholarship the following year,” Barnard said.

Barnard averaged 44 yards a punt as a senior and received preferred walk-on opportunities at Stanford, Notre Dame, Mississippi, and Rutgers. He had scholarship offers from Georgia Southern and Fordham.

When does Golden have an in home visit with Bostwick and Thomas? Has it already happened?

Canesfan_1

Saying he could have been a runner is extreme. $400 a month is the minimum an individual would be charged for his own therapy. Goins is in his forties. One of the main customer groups for these outfits is men over 40 and for an HGH/Testoreone therapy it costs minimum between 5,000 to 10,000 a year. It makes much more sense he was getting it for himself which is what I'm sure he'll say.

Agree, Cf_1. No chance $400 per mo. would not have paid for any player. All the guys implicated seem to be professional athletes, or people with money. Not saying college baseball players at UM are necessarily broke, but they're usually getting money from parents who aren't going to pay thousands per year for something like this.

Hassan

My gut tells me the strength coach was just getting this stuff for his own personal use, Also aren't medical records private? what happened to HIPPA? I would sue for this, they are trying to sink UM as usual and putting his private info out there.

j.w.

I was thinking the same thing, Hassan- whomever copied and distributed these records violated HIPAA, if they are really medical records. I assume they are from the article but there might be an argument that these are not true medical records.

They don't appear to be medical records as much as ledgers that a bookkeeper or drug dealer might keep.
The hits just keep on coming! Didn't a UM baseball player get busted for Roids a few years ago during a drug investigation?
Thank God all the canes mentioned were pro athletes when the violations allegedly took place. Donna must be blowing a gasket as we speak, plus you know the NCAA is going to come hard at us to drum up some new business!
Just another day in the life!

If I were an athlete there is no way in hell I would purchase my own PED,S. it seems as if the suppliers keep a detailed list which they have no problem distributing once they get busted. Correct me if I am wrong but didn't an ex Canes baseball player get kicked out of school for roids? AG close strong.

Defense attorney for UM baseball conditioning coach says his client didn't break law or NCAA rules

The attorney for University of Miami baseball strength and conditioning coach Jimmy Goins told The Miami Herald his client hasn't broken any federal laws or NCAA rules and that the article in Tuesday's editions of Miami New Times has jumped to conclusions.

"I can tell you Mr. Goins has no knowledge of any wrongdoing and hasn't done anything wrong personally on the behalf of Miami. He's kind of been blindsided by this," said attorney Gordon Fenderson of Fenderson and Hampton, LLC.

"We're not going to talk about whether he was a patient or not. There are privacy concerns there. But as far as using or purchasing anything that would be contrary to any rules or laws, he's been blindsided by those allegations.

"It's very presumptive to just say because a list comes out and one person may be accused of wrongdoing everybody on that list is accused of wrongdoing."

Can someone please explain the phenomenon known as a Canes football fan in the fall but a North Carolina bball fan in the winter/spring. I call them situational fans. Am I wrong on this. Canespacers speak on this.

Mcginns ale house

i am just saying when i played college football my head coach was Dick Mcpherson.Other notable coaches on the staff were Jim Tressel-George O"leary-
clerance Brooks and Ivan fears we did not call any of these coaches by there first name out of respect and fear. The only coach on that staff who i ever heard a player call by his first name was Randy Edsall and he was G.A. The player was Doug Marrone and he put a coach in front of the randy and still was running two hours after practice.

Not to beat this to death. But i have one more example.(please tolerate me)A few years back went on a whitewater rafting trip
on the chatuga i think it was .My high school teammate and lifelong best friend KEVIN FAGAN also made the trip. While sitting around the campfire somebody asked him "How was it playing for bill waslh jimmy johnson and howard?"fage said "coach schnellberger was the best." The guy said you dont have to call him coach,he is not here.dont be scared"Fage answered "I do that out of respect and some fear"

### The Shapiro camp has tried to introduce a UM gambling angle with the NCAA investigation, but there’s no indication anything came of it.

With Shapiro writing a lot of the questions, Perez asked Sean Allen 39 questions directly or indirectly about gambling in his deposition.

Among the questions: whether coaches gave Shapiro any inside information about injuries to help him win bets (Allen said he never heard that happen); whether UM players were aware of Shapiro’s gambling (“Randy Phillips had to have known because he was around him watching sporting events,” Allen said) and whether he give money to student athletes to facilitate their own gambling (“I’m not aware of that,” Allen said).

Of UM players, Allen said under oath: “I do feel like Nevin tried to separate the gambling from those guys.” That Allen deposition will be tossed out if the NCAA confirms its belief that the information was gathered improperly.

### Delray Beach Atlantic defensive tackle Keith Bryant, a former UM oral commitment, now has FSU and South Carolina as his co-leaders, with UM running third.

Terrance Sullivan

OGV my take is personally if I am a Canes fan in football and be rooting for them to beat say North Carolina in football, it seems crazy to turn back around and root for Carolina in the Winter/Spring to beat Miami since both teams are in the Coastal division of the ACC. Just seems like a conflict of interest. But Sarasota put a interesting take on it. Anyway Virginia Tech butt is next tomorrow night.

UM faces obstacles in pursuing NCAA settlement; Dolphins, Heat, Marlins, Canes notes

WEDNESDAY BUZZ COLUMN

UM president Donna Shalala and NCAA President Mark Emmert have a good relationship, and if Shalala can somehow convince Emmert and the NCAA to allow a settlement that would bypass the typical enforcement process, it will rank among Shalala’s most impressive achievements at UM.

That’s because NCAA experts say it's unlikely Emmert could strike a deal with Shalala without the approval of both the NCAA’s Board of Directors (made up of 18 presidents) and the executive committee (made up of 17 presidents). Both of those bodies authorized Emmert to bypass the infractions committee last summer and levy major sanctions on Penn State for the Jerry Sandusky child molestation scandal.

And it’s highly questionable whether other college presidents would allow such a settlement when no other schools were afforded the same opportunity for a case involving recruiting violations, a UM official conceded.

“If the NCAA cuts them a break, you would immediately see action from USC and other schools that were punished,” ESPN’s Jay Bilas, who has sharply criticized the NCAA in the past week, said by phone Monday.

Nope. It's Keef. Because Keef is still keefin', and will continue his tom-keefery until he chooses to dekeef his keefin' ways.

Per Ariz at Caneinsight (the percentage game):

70%: Collins, Thomas, Coley

"Collins had a successful visit to Arkansas over the weekend, but Miami is sitting in a very good spot. A source close to the situation told me today that he feels like Miami will ultimately be the decision, but that Collins has not necessarily made his final choice yet. This person also told me that Collins is fully aware that Miami is the best school in the mix and that he knows Miami puts top backs in the NFL, so those are two major aspects of his decision. Something interesting I was told as well is that Collins is "becoming his own man" with the decision. Interpret that however you like"

"I have heard nothing but positive buzz for Miami on Coley over the past two days and I've had three different people tell me that he has made up his mind and will be a Hurricane come signing day."
