Take my advice: This is going to be one wild ride!
Another National Signing Day (NSD) is just around the corner and just like the opening ceremony at the Olympic Games every few years you never know quite what to expect. However, we can be almost certain that head games, hat games, misdirection plays, double switches and some dirty dealing and double crossing are definitely on the agenda.
The only thing that is clear is that at some designated time in the early morning hours of Wednesday, February 6 the NCAAwill declare NSD open for business at college campuses all around the Nation with what basically amounts to a loud proclamation of: "Let the Games begin!"
Fax machines will begin to whir as they spring to life with what is the life blood of any college football team: A National Letter of Intent (NOI) from high school seniors and JUCO players across the Country.
Both coaches and fans alike will alternately cheer and curse as the news of who signs where comes out in rapid-fire succession as each NOI is received and formally approved by the compliance departments at each school. Spontaneous celebrations of joy will break out and a few cell phones will be smashed in mad desperation about the one that got away.
To follow the fast-paced action, of course you can tune into Canespace as our recruiting gurus will be on hand all day to report each official "Welcome to The U!" as it is announced. In addition, we strongly encourage Hurricane fans to check out these exciting options that the University of Miami athletic department is offering Hurricane fans on NSD 2013:
Both HurricaneSports.com and ESPN3 will provide live Signing Day Coverage of the Miami Hurricanes footballprogram. The Voice of the Miami Hurricanes, Joe Zagacki, and color analyst Don Bailey Jr. will host a live Signing Day show from 8:30-10 a.m. on HurricaneSports.comas NLIs begin rolling in on Wed., Feb. 6. ESPN3 will then pick up national coverage from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.Joe Z and DBJ will interview head coach Al Goldenand the Hurricanes assistant coaches in addition to Miami’s early enrollees and some of its current stars. As Miami receives each NLI, HurricaneSports.com will have video highlights, recruiting rankings and assistant coaches on camera to talk about the Hurricanes’ Class of 2013 additions.
Coach Golden will address the media for National Signing Day press conference at 4 p.m., followed by the Hurricanes’ Fan Signing Day Party from 5-7 p.m. at Buffalo Wild Wings in Sunset Place.
However you choose to spend your National Signing Day we recommend that you buckle up tight. It is sure to be one wild and crazy ride all day long.
Nope. It's Keef. Because Keef is still keefin', and will continue his tom-keefery until he chooses to dekeef his keefin' ways.

From Ariz..
**Alex Collins: Collins had a successful visit to Arkansas over the weekend, but Miami is sitting in a very good spot. A source close to the situation told me today that he feels like Miami will ultimately be the decision, but that Collins has not necessarily made his final choice yet. This person also told me that Collins is fully aware that Miami is the best school in the mix and that he knows Miami puts top backs in the NFL, so those are two major aspects of his decision. Something interesting I was told as well is that Collins is "becoming his own man" with the decision. Interpret that however you like. 70% Miami
**Matthew Thomas: Despite James Coley's departure from Florida State, the Noles are still in the picture here. I've spoken to two people in the last day with close ties to Thomas' family and they both feel like he will end up at Miami, but that's not to say anything is set in stone. This will continue to be a dogfight over the next week, but Miami has the upper hand. 70% Miami
**Denver Kirkland: This is very similar to the Thomas situation in that Miami holds the advantage, but he has not made his final decision as of yet. Somebody told me tonight that Kirkland's step-dad isn't all in on Miami so that is a minor hold-up as of right now, but that the coaching staff is working on settling those concerns. 65% Miami
**Stacy Coley: I have heard nothing but positive buzz for Miami on Coley over the past two days and I've had three different people tell me that he has made up his mind and will be a Hurricane come signing day. Another positive development in the Coley sweepstakes is that his very close friend Eddie Jackson will reportedly choose between Alabama and LSU, eliminating FSU. If Jackson would have chosen Florida State, that would have been a blow to Miami's chances. Like I said, the noise has been in Miami's favor the last couple days, but I'm always cautious with kids who very rarely speak to the media. 70% Miami
**Keith Bryant: Barring a last-minute miracle by Golden and staff, he will be a Nole. Golden, Carroll, and Franklin will go in-home with him on Friday before he takes his final visit to FAU this weekend. 20% Miami
**Rashard Robinson: Someone from the LSU side told me that Robinson is "telling Miami what they want to hear," and that the LSU coaches have been reassured countless times by Robinson that he will stick to his commitment. Obviously take that with a grain of salt since it's coming from LSU people, but this is from a very reliable source. Even if he does stick with them, do not completely count out the chance that he winds up at Miami at some point. There are major question marks about whether or not he will qualify, and if he has to go Prep then Miami has set themselves up nicely for a second crack at him. 25% Miami

86 - the Panthers and Bolts are a tale of two teams: One plays like there was never a lockout and the other plays like they don't realize the NHL season has begun. The rest of the conference is stuck somewhere in the middle, including my Pens

That's the way to read subtext, Ohio. It's going to be a nice day.
Thomas, Grace, Coley, Collins, Kirkland, Bostwick... Canes.
Robinson stays at LSU.
Keef commits to FAU only to decommit and recommit to FSU. Transfers out before the season starts to FIU. After sitting out, he calls up Golden. Poor Keef.
And a nice surprise, a good one.
Add in what we've already hauled in, and that's a nice day.

Matthew Thomas -- Wednesday, Feb 6th, 9AM, ESPN
Rashard Robinson -- Wednesday, Feb 6th, 9AM

I dont think there will be any surprises outside the names we already expect.
Posted by: UMike | January 30, 2013 at 11:01 AM
I know on thing it will suk to lose these recruiting battles to FSU, especially, after their coaching staff was gutted, mostly in the last month. You're looking at Bryant, Thomas, Coley, & Kirkland, plus Edwards. That's some serious star power, that we need, to move forward. Then you have Bostwick going to Florida this weekend. I want to be positive and it really does no good to worry but we could end up with zilch at DT. Golden can not keep letting this trend happen with us, with LB's & DT's. been like this for the last 4 or 5 years, where we come down to the witching hour and either have 1 or none at those positions.
Posted by: herbieibis | January 30, 2013 at 11:22 AM
I'm expecting/hoping for a major surprise.
If so, the guy will provide a major pimp slap to the recruiting media analysts.
He will have bluffed everyone and shown a ballsiness and maturity well beyond his years.
Not only that, but he will generate significant publicity far beyond the false drama of the hat cliche'.

7 Days away!!!!!! 6 days for Alex Collins!!!!......... Just finished watching the video of al golden and the coaches talking to recruits after announcing, this man is special people we are the luckiest Football program in the Nation. Al Golden is going to get it done!!
Posted by: UpNorthCane27 | January 30, 2013 at 11:28 AM
If we get a "surprise", it will probably be from a guy we had at least somewhat expected, like a Keith Bryant. Even without the surprise, we should finish up with all 4-star and up players, with the exception of maybe Edwards
Posted by: UMike | January 30, 2013 at 11:37 AM
UpNorth, 5 days for Collins. He's announcing on Monday the 4th
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | January 30, 2013 at 11:55 AM
I do have a strange feeling about Robinson though. I know Ohio mentioned him a while ago BEFORE all these other places, but there are some signs of life there. The whole "he is just telling coaches what they want to hear" doesn't add up when your make trips to Coral Gables to hang out with Miami recruits. And these are not his teammates or best friends, just fellow recruits. Also, is there a need to announce on NSD if your a solid commit to LSU? I saw this somewhere else also..but he may just be afraid to tell the LSU coaches he is interested in Miami, after all a lot of coaches pull scholarships for less.

UMike, U got my email a month or so ago. U know what's gonna happen w him.

ooo yea my bad Ohio... I have a good feeling about this final push by the staff...
For the soccer fans on the Blog.... Barcelona vs Madrid today at 3pm....... LETS GOOOO BARCAAAAA.
For those who admire seeing tremendous athletes look no further than Lionel Messi the best to ever play the sport.
Posted by: UpNorthCane27 | January 30, 2013 at 11:58 AM
He's going to play it up for signing day, just like Bryant. Want it to be a spectacle, plus grades may be an issue. At any rate, if he goes to prep school, will get him on the rebound.

hey ohio have you heard about jaylen Strong visiting this weekend?

UpNorth, no and last I heard it's doubtful he does. Haven't paid much attention to him, tho.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | January 30, 2013 at 01:37 PM
UpNorthCane,
I'm not completely happy where we are sitting right now. We have Olsen, Burns, Carter, Sandlin & Mohammed but Adam Gorney is right about one thing, we shouldn't be in this position with all the talent within 100 miles of the school, waiting on signing day to make or crush us.
Posted by: herbieibis | January 30, 2013 at 01:38 PM
Golden is in Tampa today checking up on 2014 kids, so I don't think he's too worried about NSD.

herb,
Isn't keef a smurf according to you, and you still want him? The reason why we are in the position when we are 100 miles away from all the talent is because MOST of the good players wait till signing day so they can have their moment. If they wasn't good they wouldn't be waiting. Or do you want us to lock up on all the players thats average, which I know the star power inside you doesn't want that right?
Once again, settle down, go to yo medicine cabinet and find the pills labled "Chill Pills" and take about 10 of em, don't watch or read anything about recruiting till February 7th, yes the day after signing day.
