Take my advice: This is going to be one wild ride!
Another National Signing Day (NSD) is just around the corner and just like the opening ceremony at the Olympic Games every few years you never know quite what to expect. However, we can be almost certain that head games, hat games, misdirection plays, double switches and some dirty dealing and double crossing are definitely on the agenda.
The only thing that is clear is that at some designated time in the early morning hours of Wednesday, February 6 the NCAAwill declare NSD open for business at college campuses all around the Nation with what basically amounts to a loud proclamation of: "Let the Games begin!"
Fax machines will begin to whir as they spring to life with what is the life blood of any college football team: A National Letter of Intent (NOI) from high school seniors and JUCO players across the Country.
Both coaches and fans alike will alternately cheer and curse as the news of who signs where comes out in rapid-fire succession as each NOI is received and formally approved by the compliance departments at each school. Spontaneous celebrations of joy will break out and a few cell phones will be smashed in mad desperation about the one that got away.
To follow the fast-paced action, of course you can tune into Canespace as our recruiting gurus will be on hand all day to report each official "Welcome to The U!" as it is announced. In addition, we strongly encourage Hurricane fans to check out these exciting options that the University of Miami athletic department is offering Hurricane fans on NSD 2013:
Both HurricaneSports.com and ESPN3 will provide live Signing Day Coverage of the Miami Hurricanes footballprogram. The Voice of the Miami Hurricanes, Joe Zagacki, and color analyst Don Bailey Jr. will host a live Signing Day show from 8:30-10 a.m. on HurricaneSports.comas NLIs begin rolling in on Wed., Feb. 6. ESPN3 will then pick up national coverage from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.Joe Z and DBJ will interview head coach Al Goldenand the Hurricanes assistant coaches in addition to Miami’s early enrollees and some of its current stars. As Miami receives each NLI, HurricaneSports.com will have video highlights, recruiting rankings and assistant coaches on camera to talk about the Hurricanes’ Class of 2013 additions.
Coach Golden will address the media for National Signing Day press conference at 4 p.m., followed by the Hurricanes’ Fan Signing Day Party from 5-7 p.m. at Buffalo Wild Wings in Sunset Place.
However you choose to spend your National Signing Day we recommend that you buckle up tight. It is sure to be one wild and crazy ride all day long.
Ohio,
You're right, ain't no use in worrying now. Might as well move on to 2014.

Gotta be some issue if a top 2 CB in the country wanted to come to UM.
Golden didn't just not see him.

I'm trying to guess this big surprise on NSD. I won't say Kieth Bryant. That won't be a surprise. My guess is Dee Liner. I think he's threw with Auburn. Alabama already has Darius Page & I think they'll get Montravius Adams. Then Liner falls in our lap like a drunk stripper...
Posted by: CoCane | January 30, 2013 at 03:00 PM
Alabama may have other issues.

Posted by: Terrance Sullivan | January 30, 2013 at 03:03 PM
Willie,
Tell me something I don't know. Duh, like the signing day ritual of lining up the hats and having their moment, okay, big deal.
No Bryant ain't a smurf. Now your cousins,
Porter, Ivery, King & Moore, there Smurfs, 6'1 & under.
And the star gazer in me is correct. Let me give you refresher course on the stars, as you well know, well since you've been on tour in Nashville, maybe you don't, as alot of our fellow brethren, like to remember our past history of finding talent under the rocks back in the 80's and 90's, all this was true. We did find 2*'s like Ed Reed, hanging out in LA. Flash forward 10 years, ain't nobody hiding under no rocks anymore. Every coach knows who's out their and since you must of jumped on the band wagon late, we used to be a power and that is what we all long to get back too! When it comes to recruiting, which, although I'm no authority, I have been following it for over 40 years, I think I have a pretty good idea on what it's going to take for us to get back, talent wise. We all have one thing in common, on this site, and that's get back to the ship. I'm sorry to say it's going to take talent. Now maybe I'm wrong, but in this day & time loading up on 3 stars, tweeners, & under the radar types, won't get you into no ship. A QB that can manage the game, and line play, are what will give you a chance to obtain that. Until last year we haven't had no manager, at Qb, since Dorsey was here and it's been 6 or 7 years since we've had an A-A linemen offense or defense, not a good recipe for staying power among the nations elite! I got nothing but love for big AL, unlike OGV, and I'm not going to bash DENO like everyone else, when clearly, the firepower he has to work with on defense is more like a cap gun! He does have a few players to work with but the over-all depth of talent, ain't their, yet! So to wrap this saga up, I'll conclude by saying, if we don't get Thomas, Bostwick, Bryant or at least one of those 2 and we don't get Collins, this for me, will have been an average class. The 2 areas we need some serious talent infusion, LB & D-T, are the two areas we keep striking out on and waiting to the last minute and then offering every Tom, Dick & Harry a ship ain't helping either. All i'm saying is we shouldn't be in this boat with 8 or 9 top players, waiting for signing day to sink or swim us. I can see maybe 3 maybe 4 but I've never seen us, in this position with so many star players, choosing between us and someone else.
That was a good dig though, Dog!

Can someone update me on WR/TE Travis Johnson? A freind of mine says we stopped persuing because of an incident. Do we know what that incident was?
Thanks
Posted by: raizecane | January 30, 2013 at 03:39 PM
Raize, we've cooled on him because of the TE's we already have. Add that to this being a smaller class than normal. I don't know of any incident, but don't believe it's why they've stopped recruiting him.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | January 30, 2013 at 03:58 PM
Pay no attention to the Rivals article bashing our class. They must not have anything else to write about.
Our class is solid and will be even more so come NSD. These kids and their "advisors" really want the attention though, especially the schools. They'd be giving that up if the players "committed" early on, at least publicly.
Bet you anything Al's got some silent commitments for this reason.
Appreciate the discussion fellas... GO CANES!!!
Posted by: RBLCane | January 30, 2013 at 04:05 PM
The strangest part about the Rivals thing is the lead guys there are still expecting a good number of those players to commit to Miami.
Sure, the Canes have a small class, but Golden was cutting down on scholarships. I know these top guys realize that exact thing, but why does no one mention that in an ordinary year, you could expect The U to have 18-22 commits at this time and holding its final spots for these guys yet to choose their school?
Just doesn't make sense to me.
Posted by: kenyon19ypr | January 30, 2013 at 04:14 PM
Nice to see my post was deleted. That's ALLLL Right!! In an ordinary year, we wouldn't be sitting here wondering about 8 or 9 guys, maybe 3 or 4 but not this many.

herb, nobody on here is better for a laugh during week one of the season than you when it comes to always harping on the number of [shift](8) keystrokes some high school senior is sporting next to their name on some internet list, but I really think you should just start moving onto the juniors like the guy you support with nothing but love already has today.
Keef will miss trolling you though and he hopes you don't tune out with UMike and everybody else though I bet because he only has the initiative on you until NSD, unless he goes Terrell Pryor that is.

As far as Keefiee goes, I hope he comes. Been wantin love from everyone but it's the one you love last that you remember. I know Goldie gave him some TLC recently, so I hope he feels better.

herb, I'm just hoping for everybody's sake you're retailing the legit strain of the truth when it comes down to the mutants from Philly.
How much of a factor do you think the new OC jumping sides of the rivalry is going to play on signing day really when it's all said and done this year? This year, not as much as some people seem to think is what I believe, if only because he's now the perfect illustration for that old recruiting prospect truism that you should never fall for your position coaches because odds are they aren't going to be there for your career to this year's signing class.

So the herb is saying that this day in time only 4* and 5* players are good game day players, the herb must not have heard of Eddie Johnson? So the herb is saying that the herb has seen these players live or in person that the herb speaks of? The herb says smurfs are 6'1 and under, Keef is 6'2, so 1 inch is the difference between a smurf and a beast? Which 3* or 2* current recruit has the herb seen in a live game? Or does the herb just listen and follow rivals, scout, twitter, etc.... Is the herb relying on somebody else's evaluations or the herb's?? Is the herb saying that Golden can't be cool wit these players waiting till NSD, that Golden doesn't already know which players are signin wit da U on NSD, Golden doesn't want this for publicity to get the momentum ball rolling? So the herb already counts Golden out before NSD?? Why wouldn't any coach want their recruits to enjoy their moment?????
To sum this all up for ya, its Al Golden's EVALUATIONS vs. rivals, scout, espn, 24/7, etc.... So why does the latter win in the herb's mind???? So you either believe in AG or you don't

You can still find some 3, 2 & 1* gems. They just aren't hidden anymore. I have to admit. Recruiting services have gotten better at ranking the prospects due to camps & 7 on 7 tourny's. Because of that, the Eddie Johnson's are harder to find. Usually you can tell the underrated recruits by the schools that have offered them. If a 2* recruit has 15-20 offers & Florida, Clemson, VaTech & LSU are the major programs out of the list. They're probably underrated. You don't get major offers like that unless you can ball. That being said, nowadays you do need a healthy number of 4 & 5* recruits. You just need the evaluation skills to know which ones are overrated. Then you need to know which few are underrated...
Posted by: CoCane | January 30, 2013 at 06:46 PM
Why did we not pursue Cunningham heavily? I know Coley is the top guy, but I feel like JC was holding out for Miami the whole time...
But yeah, I agree UMike. He's Stanford-bound.

I think UM should just have D'No spray all the below 4*'s with deer antler extract when they show up for their first shower at the athletic complex as he tells them, "This always used to make those second milers develop as players way better than anything Jerry and I combined ever did with them up in Happy Valley."
What?
I haven't even mentioned Lennay Kekua or Catfishing once since that broke so it was just a matter of time until I broke down and hit post instead of delete or backspace on the keyboard after typing one of these jokes out and deer antler extract spray not being mentioned on here was the low hanging frum soaked root I couldn't resist.

Ogv;looking at your last post and a few of your others. You have no called the um def coord. A liar a mutant and a child molester.Do you think those personal attacks help UM in some way?Do you think
that they belong on CANE fan page that his family may read? Not even bringing up the fact of recruits and there famlies reading it.
Posted by: Mcginns ale house | January 30, 2013 at 07:14 PM
Mcginns, he said he doesn't care what I think, remember? So any unsuccessful attempts at humor at his expense as a public figure on my part doesn't matter to him unless they were to change his family's opinions of him and if anything somebody they don't know posts on a blog does that, D'No's got bigger problems than what I post about him or where his defense ranks in the NCAA top division of football.
Besides that last post was implying he sucked at coaching so he has to cheat by doping, not that he joined in with his old mentor in victimizing grooming charity targets.
Here ale house, D'No's coaching abilities are as legitimate as the headaches Lennay Kekua blames as the reason she can't go fishing for catfish with her boyfriend in college during Spring Break in Hawai'i.
Feel better now? Of course you don't because you think he's got it all under control and can't take a joke about your beloved mutant from Philly.
Posted by: orange 'n green in the vein | January 30, 2013 at 07:26 PM
OGV;This is not about coaching,or what you or I think about coach dno's ability. Its about YOU using canespace to take personal attacks out another. The good that canespace has tryed to do for UM and its fans is being ruined by your personal attacks on the football coaches and there famlies.we have enough problems at UM without you chimimg in.If you enjoy attacking UM football go to a gator sight. I am sure they will be glad to have you.but i think your better man then your comments show.

Mcginns, you're way more entertaining when you come on here and mistakenly complain about the Miami basketball team losing games that they actually won in a laughably transparent and futile tool in your continued obsession with creating a purified safe zone of non-critical Hurricane propaganda roll call in conjunction with your unhealthy obsession over me than when you get your dander up all over jokes about the football coaches lack of competency at their job.
Stick around for the game tonight and if some chokie-dreg slimes their way up from the ducts of the inter-tubes like they did last off-season to run their gobbling scar-loving mouth before Fisch ran them out for a turkey shoot this year I'll be sure to welcome them back properly and if they continue to come talk smack without humbly admitting they typed a check their team couldn't cash I might even drop a veiled Richard McBeef allusion on them for your non-entertainment buddy. You won't want to miss that opportunity to mount the high-horse again or celebrate the UM win by saying how they lost in the immediate aftermath. ROTFL.
