No matter what the real story is, this certainly is a blow to Golden's reputation with local coaches moving forward.

Agreed^^^

Not looking good people, this just about wraps up our 2013 recruiting class, we get atleast 2-3 max out of maybe 6-7 targets we are still hoping for.

Booker T. coach Tim "Ice" Harris says he's stunned UM pulled scholarship from Kirkland

Sean Spence is a Beast!!!

Gets:

Bostwick
MT6
Collins

Misses:

Kirkland (Obvious reason)
Coley (FSU)
Edwards (FSU)
Grace (Ville, seems momentum has shifted to them)
Cunningham (Stanford)

RBLCane

This was bound to happen... IMO the Coley hire, especially with it being so late in the game, gained us a few recruits not previously on our big board that we'll find out about come NSD... Also means we had to make space elsewhere... It's too bad as I really like Kirkland... It's a business and a numbers game at the end of the day (or a "meat market" as Bruce Feldman would put it)... Hopefully 6 will understand that it's nothing personal... Same goes to the other BTW and South Florida recruits.

I think everything will work itself out... The media, Manny ans Susan included, tend to be really negative at times (and then they wonder why fan commentators on the MH blog are borderline suicidal! LOL)

Trust in Al people! He hasn't let us down yet. As my pastor likes to say, "when things look tough, it means a blessing is right around the corner!" Let's stay positive until the fat lady sings!

lets wait till NSD before we all go jump out of a window. This is why I hate the NCAA rule about coaches talking about recruits. Now Miami can't speak for themselves to get the real story out. I know there are theories but I don't believe anything I hear from "SOURCES"

RBL, Six is a kid and so are other future hs recruits, what u talking bout? Everything is personal to these this kids, teenagers especially are easy to get caught in these kind of things. It's all about the now for them and realizes mistakes later in life. This about ruined some dade connection for Golden at least at the moment, let's see how he fixes it!

Granted, you're right. There's always 2 sides of the story.

But it's hard to spin this story around. It's very simple to understand, Denver never played games and only intended to wait til' signing day so he can have his 15 min. of fame, nothing wrong with that. The kid is entitled to have a final 3, it's not like he pulled a Keith Bryant!

Unless, Keith himself is the reason? Hmmnn. . .

They did say over signing DL's is the reason, maybe something is brewing in KB's part? We'll see!

NYCane

So is the U burning or hurting ties to a local power house high school program, cause we don't have a schollie for him... but we do for JUCO kid?? Nothing against the JUCO commits or any other commits
but this will effect our future recruitment, with BTW but also other programs.

Strange things are afoot!!

Panamacitycane

also kids flip on schools on NSD all the time and it's always "whats best for him" but if a school does it because it is "whats best for them" then they are the villain? I am just saying there is something to do this. Golden is an amazing recruiter and has his reasons.. i am thinking they got news that a BIG TIME recruit may be coming and needed a spot?

Yeah but you don't do it to a kid who does it the right way, heck, it ain't alright either if Miami pulled a fast one on KB despite what he is doing with the flipping and messing around with people's headsright now.

Won't be the first or the last time a prominent local HS coach is unhappy with our staff... Not good but not the end of the world either... The []_[] will keep rising... The ship is headed in the right direction and the university as a whole is much more attractive and prestigious than it's ever been... This is what kids will see in the end and not the gripings of their HS coaches... This might also motivate kids to "commit" sooner and wean themselves off of all the NSD hype and attention... I wouldn't know personally but it's obviously an exciting thing to commit to a school nationally or even locally and to be on TV and all that... That being said, it's nothing when compared to the glory of playing at the []_[] when it's on top of the college football world and sending multitudes to the league.

I can tell you haven't been watching much UM football these last two years except against BCU with comments like that one RBLC. There's 11 times Golden's let UM fans down at the very least over that time, plus all 730+ days he didn't hire a coordinator for the defense at UM.

On the plus side, his wife apparently really likes living in Miami, at least according to him, so there's that.

CaneRock

I agree, Coaches gotta cover their asses to. And even by Harris's own admission, He said Kirkland told Him UM, but when pressed by Barrow, Kirkland told Him "UM was in His top 3". Can't let these kids hold a program hostage. But this sucks though, UM might've been DK's "Dream School", but He apparently screwed it up for these made for TV shenanigans.

Sean Spence is a Beast!!!

RBL, when kids from south florida are helping other schools win national championships and other big time bowls, it is a pretty big deal right now to not burn bridges with local high schools. Our 5 national championship were won because of backyard recruits. I can't keep watching college football and all i see are the Amari Coopers, Teddy Bridgewaters, Giovanni Bernards, Patrick Johnsons etc. of the world making plays for rivals and out of state universities!

CoCane

I'm usually the one that says stay tuned but I must admit. This is some shakey shyt. If NSD is a disappointment, the vibe will be fukked up for me & a lot of fans. I'll have to stay tuned but this situation sucks azz right now...

So we burn bridges so we can get maybe an out of state big time recruit? I still get the move, i'd take south florida talent any day.

Ya'll can burn me with my comment but it's true, you probably prefer them as well!

kenyon19ypr

I don't know how to spin this positively. I'm flat-out shocked right now... Especially with some top players coming out of BTW next year. Simply at a loss for words. This whole Kirkland concerns me... a lot. He was even a silent commit... I know we have to wait six days for the answer, but was the bridge with "Ice" worth burning?

Sean Spence is a Beast!!!

CaneRock, we can wait for other kids on NSD but we can't wait for
DK?

That's what's effed up about it, it's less than a week from now and we couldn't wait, this don't sound good to other recruits/targets, trust me.

Sean Spence is a Beast!!!

Why are we being selective at this point? I think Miami have enough ammo now against the NCAA to have a better fuller class this year. Golden should just go for the homerun and get all the kids he can get. Don't understand why he is still holding up on scholarships.

orange 'n green in the vein

SSiaB, I can see your two wrongs don't make recruiting games right POV on this but honestly, the coaches are paid to do what's best for the program and they don't really owe anyone anything until they've made the decision to be a part of the program by signing the intent letter. These last two coach hires appeared to be an attempt to more quickly establish roots to the local coaches who apparently see the MAC guys as outsiders/not willing to prostrate themselves for the local high school coaches' demands so I hope what's going on here is a number crunch shuffle on the staff's part not a sign of Ice getting a cold shoulder for something, how shall we say, extra, he was asking for to be passed below the surface of the table.

SSIAB, again, Harris assured Barrow that DK was going to UM...BUT, when Barrow pressed DK for a commitment, He says wait till signing day. If this is the way this recruiting game goes, how many kids are we missing out on, because some "Big Timer" is holding us hostage.

kenyon19ypr

Ice told ESPN there was a commitment on the defensive side of the ball today that hasn't been announced.

We're looking at two options in my mind:
1. Rashard Robinson silently has flipped and the "first one out" was Kirkland.
2. Terrell Brooks committed--the JUCO DT. And I don't like that Kirkland gets shafted for Brooks.

roachcane77

You know, no matter what the reason... this is NOT good... ESPECIALLY since the Manny story paints us in such a bad light.

Perception is a HUGE thing, and the perception of The U in this matter is NOT good.

I don't know if the real "reason" for this can ever be good enough to outweigh the damage it may have caused...

I guess only time will tell...

A DLman to be exact:

"Don't come to us in the end and say you're going in another direction because of a defensive lineman."

The Dude

Mr. Harris is probably twisting some UM arms for things. Like he did with his own son.

The Dude

Dang, should have refreshed. OGV stole my thunder.

kenyon19ypr

CaneRock, then it HAS to be Brooks! Right? And like I said, I just don't see it! I would much rather have 4-5 years of Kirkland... I'm trying to trust Golden, but MT6 is at stake here. This REALLY bothers me.

The Dude

Harris knows the game from both sides. He also knows Golden and the staff can't defend themselves. I think he is shady and looking for handouts.

The Dude

We may not get MT6 now. Oh well. Looks like SoFl is corrupt to me. We won't win unless we open up our check books. Watch. They will go $EC.

Kenyon, I don't know about Brooks, but DK's Dad said something about oversigning DLmen also...TIFWIW:

"From CaneInsider: Kirkland’s stepfather, Shanton Crummie, informed XOFan/CaneInsider of the news earlier tonight. He said the explanation he’s receiving from the Miami coaching staff is that they over signed defensive lineman and therefore Kirkland’s scholarship was used up."

kenyon19ypr

Canerock, which implies Brooks is a lock Bostwick must be a silent commit too? Or how do you see this?

The Dude

If Kirkland was a silent. They wouldn't have pulled his scholly. They would have taken someone elses like Gall. BTW is trying to play around. Just like MNW. The State of Miami doesn't want to play by the rules. Why would they? Unless you are a Duke Johnson, true Cane, why pass up the $EC? Harris knows the improper benefits game. He knows how it goes down. He's seen it happen at Miami. Golden probably told him he's not playing ball.

I don't miss a game OGV! Completely agree that D'No is no good! Coach Golden seems like a pretty smart guy though and is aware his livelihood depends tremendously on D'No getting his act together. There's gotta be a legitimate reason D'No is still around and why Golden still believes in him, but IMO D'No will be a mid-season firing if he doesn't shape up.

Disagree on the "11 letdowns" comment as it implies a loss means the coach let us down and says nothing about players, depth at different positions, recruiting philosophy (as in Al's versus Randy's players), injuries, overall talent level, relative strength of opponent, sheer luck (or lack of it in this case), etc. It's a little too oversimplistic to put every loss on the coach is what I'm trying to say, especially when Coach Golden hasn't had a team he mostly put together himself on the field.

Overall though, the team got better in the W-L column in 2012, and that's all we can ask for realistically. The defense HAS to get better in year 3--it can't get worse right?--and our offense is coming back stronger, faster, more experienced. This leads me to believe the upward trend will continue and we'll at least get to 9 wins in 2013, and I'm cool with that so long as we continue to get better every year.

The immediate issue at hand, though, is recruiting, and I don't necessarily see the Denver Kirkland news as a reason to reach for the cyanide. The big league coaches, the Meyers and Sabans of the world, pull these kinds of moves all the time, and although it leaves a bad taste in your mouth, college football, ESPECIALLY at the []_[], is a business. That means that difficult, unpopular decisions have to be made sometimes, even if it means leaving poor old Denver Kirland out in the cold (who, BTW, has a binder full of other offers. If he really wanted to go to the []_[], if it was really is "dream school," the kid should've pulled the trigger!).

Imho, i probably would've hold off on the FB committed to syracuse as we have Dillard more than capable to do the job.

You can never have too many offensive tackles but as we all know, RB's are dime a dozen!

I'm no recruiting genius, but if Miami is telling four-star kids who'll end up at FSU, "Sorry, no vacancy at The U," isn't that a good sign?

Didn't think about that. Touche Tim...

The Dude

This whole "let the kid have his moment" crap is complete bullsh*t. Its that crap that we are trying to get rid of at The U. Me first, me me me. F*ck that. Try actually committing to work. To effort. To shutting the f*ck up and paying your dues. Everyone is Randy Moss now. What a waste of talent that guy was for 80 percent of his career. I only care about the kids that ink on signing day. The ones that are committed to The U. The ones that want to be here and actually show it. Al Golden may have only won 7 games last year, but at least our kids wanted it. That's better than I can say than all of our Marcus Forstons and Lance Leggetts and Tyrone Moss' and Ryan Moores and Ray Ray Armstrongs and...

I'll just hold on to the hope that on NSD all of this will make sense. The only thing we can do as fans is trust the coaches. Dam the next 6 days are going to go by slow. It feels like I'm 7 years old waiting for Christmas again. Lol

That is how I see it. When UM can tell a 4 star no, then its in a good position. Denver was given a chance to commit, and he said no and took his chances. Golden did the right thing. UM will have a strong class. I think Golden and his staff know what they are doing.

THERE IT IS RIGHT THERE!!!

GO CANES!!!

JCane

and while we're going over our upcoming 2013 class, let's not forget the incredibly strong south Florida 2014 class. Tomorrow coach Golden is is supposed to visit in Palm Beach county to visit with Keith Bryant, along with some 2014 stops like KC McDermott (younger bro of Shane) (top center, the guy who basically flicked off Urban...gotta love it), Travis Rudolph (wideout at Cardinal Newman) and a visit to Dwyer HS (where some strong folks like WR and track start Johnnie Dixon plays, along with other WRs, a DL and safety are possibly being looked at). There was actually some interesting info. in the PB Post today on the 2014 class.

Also, if anyone is still interested in our top 15 basketball team, huge shutdowns of #10 Oregon last night and #9 Butler tonight open up more upward movement in the rankings with a weekend road win over the Wolfpack. However, if they play like last night they likely won't win. However, the road win with sloppy play hopefully was a good learning experience for playing a mediocre opponent on the road after some huge wins. It could be quite the fantasy to see the U win out straight up to a matchup at Duke with both in the top 10.

Now, back to my old favorite of football recruiting. It gets more interesting daily, but I think Golden has a plan that is gradually taking effect.

CoCane

As long as this new recruit that took Denver's scholly is elite it's all good. If he's a 2* tweener or a 3* juco player I'll be scratching head til the scalp comes off...
