If the waiting is the hardest part, then that part may finally, mercifully be over for the Miami Hurricanes. Today it was reported by multiple sources that it is very likely that the University of Miami will receive their Notice of Allegations (NOA) from the NCAA on Monday.
The news first broke early Saturday afternoon as www.caneinsider.com reported that an un-named source close to the investigation had informed them that the NOA would arrive in Coral Gables on Monday morning. That report was soon confirmed by the Associated Press, the Miami Herald and a few others in the media.
It will be interesting to see what if any formal response comes from UM on what could be one very manic Monday for the university's administration, legal team and athletic department. If in fact the NOA does arrive there is likely going to be several hectic hours digesting the report which is certain to be followed by several meetings between President Donna Shalala, Acting AD Blake James and UM compliance department staff.
The University of Miami would then have up to 90 days to contest or appeal the allegations listed in the report, a process that most legal experts who have reviewed similar cases before the NCAA Committee on Infractions (COI), consider highly likely. This process could possibly delay the actual penalty phase from being completed until May or maybe even June.
In addition to likely receipt of the NCAA NOA report on Monday it was also announced that UM would hold a press conference at 11 AM to allow three players to announce their intentions to enter the NFL draft or remain at Miami for another year. Set to meet the press are OL Seantrel Henderson, OL Brandon Linder and DL Curtis Porter, all of whom are expected to return for another season at UM.
Join us for just another manic Monday at UM to start the week.
Judging by the small picture they got, its Jordan Cunningham

If this is the case, we must be missing out on Coley.
I've said from the beginning if we don't get Coley, we'll be hot on Cunningham's trail. We quit persuing Cunningham because we had AJL. Once he fell to grades, we got on Coley.
--------------------------------------
Class of 2014 QB Quinton Flowers is who the article is about. He wants to announce on THIS signing day instead of waiting it out apparently. So there's the surprise... Kinda crappy I know. But we're still hot on Coley's trail. Not concerned about him. He was ready to commit until he received an offer from FSU and it had to rethink things I guess. Cunningham seems like a long-shot, but I'll remain hopeful!

I have no idea what the "issue" is in the first place. Last I heard, it doesn't look good. He'll either commit to us and go Prep/JUCO route or go somewhere else if he doesn't want to wait.

1. LOL! So they ARE still missing the boat on THIS YEAR's incoming commit? Pay sites crack me up. I'm in Ohio, don't ask for $$ and have more info. Ha.
2.JC was actually ready to commit to us until we "didn't have room" for him because we had AJL.
Now that AJL followed all of our grades casualties to Marshall, JC is back in the picture. I know he really likes Stanford, but IMO if Golden REALLY wants him, he'll be a Cane.

I'd like to think that holding the press conference is a wise move. That it gets people thinking about those three guys being in the pros.
On the other hand, what's the point? You hold conference to announce that you're doing nothing - maintaining your current status.
Great. A virgin just announced she's not pregnant, but she's thinking about becoming a mother in the future.
This is breaking news. It's not like there were wild rumors that needed to be stamped out. A one sentence press release could have done the trick.
But hey the guys got some additional face time.

Honestly, I think it's a sort of "Thank you" to the players for staying and making good decisions.
Kind of like when you're potty training a child and you make a big deal about it when they use it. It's what they were supposed to do, but you make them feel good about it, and make a big deal out of it.
That, and it also gets the football team out in the media/community in a positive light during a crucial time. Recruiting/sanctions being that crucial time.
Honestly, I think it's very intelligent decision to have the presser. IMO, of course.

Miami Dolphins owner Stephen M. Ross announced Monday that he is prepared to fund the majority of costs for proposed improvements to Sun Life Stadium that will make the facility competitive for hosting future Super Bowls, college championship games, the Pan Am Games, professional soccer, and other premier sports and entertainment events.
Ross stated that private funds would cover the majority of construction costs, which would create more than 4,000 local jobs for South Florida across various industries. The modernization plan would position Sun Life Stadium to continue competing for elite events without proposing any tax increases on Miami-Dade residents.
"I bought this team because I love this town. I went to high school here and built much of my business here," said Ross. "Like most Miamians, I believe no other community in America represents a better destination for blockbuster events. My goal is to secure the future of Miami-Dade and the Dolphins so we can remain a global competitor for sports and entertainment for at least another 25 years. That's why I'm willing to make the initial and most substantial investment in this project."

The three amigo's decided to stay for their Sr. year, that's the best decision, they've made since they committed here.
Greene was along shot to come here anyway and probably Michigan bound.
I wish they would go ahead and tell us what the sanctions are, even if it is before signing day. I don't want us losing any kids after signing day because they have an option once sanctions are levied.
I'm not worried about Coley, I'm worried about Thomas, he's the one we can't afford to miss out on.

Not surprised at all about the linemen coming back, linemen need ever year they can get pre-NFL to prepare the body for the most physically demanding spot in that league so they all made the right call individually.
DL's are very similar that way to the OL even though ends (SC's Clowney being the best recent or current example of this) can get away with only being old enough to drink more than the tackles can there if they have that elite first step ala Vernon with the hometown team.

With six players drafted in 2012, Miami only trailed Alabama (8), Georgia (7) & Oklahoma (7). Other schools that also had six players drafted were South Carolina, Cal, Michigan State, Iowa, Wisconsin & Boise state.
CANES IN THE 2012 DRAFT
DE Olivier Vernon - 3rd round (72nd overall) to the Miami Dolphins
LB Sean Spence - 3rd round (86th overall) to the Pittsburgh Steelers
RB Lamar Miller - 4th round (97th overall) to the Miami Dolphins
WR Travis Benjamin - 4th round (100th overall) to the Cleveland Browns
WR Tommy Streeter - 6th round (198th overall) to the Baltimore Ravens
OG Brandon Washington - 6th round (200th overall) to the Philadelphia Eagles

Agree. I also agree that it was self-serving to hold it, but who cares, everyone else does things like this. It's good for the kids to get them in the spotlight for something that helps UM, and good for UM to give the media something else to talk about.

The Miami Dolphins unveiled a roughly $400 million renovation plan of Sun Life Stadium on Monday, and asked taxpayers to fund up to half of the project.
Majority owner Stephen Ross pledged to fund at least a majority of the project, which would be completed by the start of the 2015 season — in time to host Super Bowl L.
Dolphins CEO Mike Dee said the team wasn’t settled on a funding plan, but floated two sources of public dollars for the project.
The first: Increasing tax on mainland Miami-Dade hotels from six percent to seven percent. The second: A $3 million sales tax rebate from Florida on top of a $2 million rebate the stadium already receives.

Ive been saying this since ND joined the ACC....find a way out of the contract with ESPN and dont waste your time with your own network that will cost you money to start just go and sign with NBC and NBC sports channel which really doesnt air anything good. Get your prime time games on a network that is in everybodies home and than other games and replays on nbc sports. Thats the way to go IMO.
Also man that would be nice if we can get those changes made to sun life. I would say though playing at Marlins Park would be pretty sweet with a dome and 40k small closed in staduim would get so load for big games. On nice nights open the window panel and the roof get that sky line of Miami in the back ground....ah yes that would be awesome!!

Couple of NFL notes from VA Cane
My teams scrimmaged Russell Wilsons team 3 times when he was a prep here in Richmond. You could see he was going to be good then. He sees the field well, moves well, has great feet....and notice that touch on the shorter stuff....gets there quick but not a fastball that cannot be handled....yes they lost but he's quite a young man, we were very impressed with his many skills.
One of my players is with Atlanta. Jason Snelling played for me as a Sr. when I coached the South All Stars and he played with us 2 years after the regular season in The Hopewell Bowl. He went to L. C. Bird HS here in Richmond.
One of my friends coaches at Hermitage, and I worked with their DBs some during the season; taught some man technique as that was kind of my specialty in my day....many years ago. I saw several of the kids at a BB game last week; they think Derrick Green, who is a great kid, will go with Michigan...they have a slight lead supposedly. He is to announce end of Jan I heard...like the 26th.
I must say I never felt great about Teddy B. but having seen him play several games and then crush UF my hats off to him. Very good leader, much much better QB than J12, and lot of heart. He looked very good in bowl.He would have helped quite a bit I think, J12 would have sat.
There is another kid from LC Bird who had a great year, Paul Robertson. Not big 5-11 185 he rushed for over 1,647 in the season, but ran wild in the post season. In 3 playoff games and a victory in the State title game, he rushed for 1,135 yds; good season of 2,782. Not sure what his plans are, as he was a walk on as a Sr, but I home someone looks at hime. Hes a good tough kid...man he runs hard...kind of Beast Mode.
Finally, Brissett comes crawling back Huh? Sorry buddy, ships left the port. We do not need him, not sure he will ever play anywhere.
Finally, U of AL plays man football. Those guys line up and bring it, they run the ball the right way. We used to do that.....long ago and far away to quote James Taylor. We are so far removed from playing with that kind of intensity; we do not need to try and schedule those cats. Heck, KSU and ND mauled us, we have no business being on the same field with AL. That would be embarrassing. But we must work toward that level of skill, devotion, intensity and desire to win....then we will be at the top again. Lets do it!!!
Always, VA "Country Azz" Cane

Va. Cane,
Bama recruits different than we do. They don't bring in 200 lB LB's and wait three years for them to get to 230, they bring men in already weighing 230 or more. Same with their O_Line. These guys are ready to play size wise but usually redshirt, something we haven't been afforded for a while. That's the biggest difference, offensive line dominance & Linebacking, plus more depth of talent.

Best post i found today.
No way does the U get more than Penn State. That issue went all the way to the president and people's lives were impacted for the sake of a program
...somewhat like the alleged rapes at ND this year...see article in Washington Post by an ND alum of why she won't be cheering for ole Notre Dame.
Also, when a coach is caught hiding a known violation, the OSU case, or a program gets caught having its student athletes commit academic fraud, UNC, and have a pipeline with an agent, or a program blatantly pays 20k for a 2 year recruiting video, see Oregon, and nothing happens...
I really don't think you can punish a program who graduates their kids, cooperates, and just had a felon who conned wealthy educated people con kids.

Great point Herbie!! We used to do that, bring in guys ready to play and build depth. It is harder now for sure. I know this: We are not ready to play them yet: but we can do it here again. I am holding the flame high and believe we are on the right path. Wont be tomorrow, but it will get there guys.

Thank you pbc. That's actually a very intriguing idea that Swofford would have to be incompetent not to at least attempt to pursue, ESPN luke-ness to it or not. But who are we kidding, he's trying to put out the fire of FSU bolting to be the successful WVU followup to a league that was flat-lining last off-season even after giving them the chance to play in Syracuse and Pittsburgh every few years.
The fact the herb didn't follow that great setup of is comment about what kind of recruiting leads to back to back titles with an Armani Cooper/pickup truck joke and instead launched into his standard physical characteristics of ideal 3-4 personnel was a real missed opportunity on this blog right after a key recruiting weekend brewing with NOA unsubstantiated rumors.

That boy Stan puttin in work recruiting for us, lol. He in 6 ear via twitter. What's the difference talent wise between Coley and Cunningham? I really haven't watched much clips on JC. I was hopin we definitely got 6, Collins, Bryant (at this point his antics have made me sour on him and wouldn't care if he signed with fswho) and Coley just to prove to college football that we own our yard and ain't going be letting teams come down and take our kids. A statement of sorts, just my view tho. Is Coley's issues character as well as grades? Hey Ohio at the end of the day, do u think Bostwick's grades will be straight enough for him to sign with the canes?
