Not really surprising info, but I'm changing my Alex Collins to UM to 99%.

Take that for what it's worth.

CaneRock

I also see it like this: when Miami hired Al Golden we as Canes fans knew Shannon left him with nothing and it was obvious by what we saw in that Sun Bowl game.

Posted by: Schweaty Balls | January 25, 2013 at 04:15 PM

IDK about all that.
Now did Shannon leave a team that lacked conditioning and morale...yes.
But Randy Shannon didn't exactly leave the cupboard bare like one Larry Coker.
Hell, most of the starters on the O-Line were Shannon's recruits.

herbieibis

Grades were a problem with Hearns.
Parker, did quit because he didn't want risk injury. I read the article about it but that was a good 2 months ago and I dont't recall it being a grade issue but maybe more on the lines of making sure he kept them up. Risking injury was the main issue from what I recall.

Thats not the point of my comments or what LB and I are talking about. Referring to what Randy Shannon left or didn't leave Al Goldn is an entirely different topic all together.

I was over on the fsu site for a while yesterday. It was a real mess,
that Lt. From state of the u was taking them all on by himself. He is
Quite the blogger and has great knowledge of um sports. I wanted to jump in and help him , but was unable to post. The bullets were flying and he was more than holding his own!!! It was said that m.t. Cancelled his visit to fsu
This weekend can anybody confirm?

Ohio_Cane

He did NOT cancel. Someone started that this morning. 6 is at FSU today.

And my point is that Shannon lost His team, the media, and the fans. He didn't lose because He didn't stock the cupboard. Anyways, that's neither here nor there, that era is OVER!, no need to re-litigate it.

A source told ESPN's Joe Schad that Shapriro's attorney was given a list of questions to ask during the bankruptcy deposition on behalf of the NCAA. The attorney then sent a bill to the NCAA for expenses, which NCAA president Mark Emmert said led to questions of the organization's conduct in the case.

Perez said the NCAA paid her for her services. She told the Sun Sentinel she shared a common interest with the NCAA, but did not say what it was.

My last comment on the matter for a while...

Perez is toast
NCAA is toast

The best article ever on the subject is from Gary Ferman.

Greg Cote:

AL GOLDEN'S "HOMELAND SECURITY" STRATEGY: I find Al Golden's two most recent Hurricanes football hires to be good ones, but more than that interesting ones, for the same reason. James Coley, the new offensive coordinator (from FSU, pictured top) and Mario Cristobal, assistant head coach/tight ends (from FIU, bottom) have this in common: Recruiting. It is a clear strength of both men, especially in South Florida. Cristobal is born and raised here and tapped in with local schools. Coley is a Miami High alum whose first coaching job was at Norland; ESPN has named him top recruiter in the ACC. I mentioned this coincidence to a source in the football program. "But it isn't a coincidence. It's our 'Homeland Security' plan," the source said, the phrase his, not Golden's. "Al wants to dominate [recruiting] in Dade and Broward." That's especially true now as the school faces possible scholarship limits by the NCAA in the Nevin Shapiro case. If you don't have quantity, the quality had better be that much greater. The strategy to dominate in your bounteous backyard also sounds to me like a head coach digging in and planning to stay awhile. Golden and Cristobal were at the basketball arena with guest recruits during UM's big win over No. 1 Duke -- a result and ambience that could only have helped Canes recruiting leading to next month's signing day. And sitting right next to UM's current star running back Duke Johnson was the player Miami hopes follows in Duke's footsteps: South Plantation's heavily recruited Alex Collins. My guy coined the new reemphasis on South Florida as 'Homeland Security.' I might call it fencing in the backyard. Either way, Coley and Cristobal are smart hires to help Golden and UM get there.

LB

Thanks, positive and negative comments. But sports is entertainment. The point is to get good entertainment, right? No one wants to be hanging around .500 and being a middle of the road team in a mediocre conference.

I absolutely have no problem being the villain, but being conditionally loyal isn't a bad thing. Else spend your money and watch a good movie.

Cause: Bad coach, mediocre team.
Effect: now we've got a good coach in an upwardly mobile program. Pretty sweet.

David Thompson isn't the only hitter at UM who can throw a football

Turns out redshirt freshman David Thompson isn't the only athlete at the University of Miami who can swing a big bat and fling a football around.

Outfielder Grant Heyman, a three-sport star at Pittsford-Sutherland High School (N.Y.) and 11th round pick of the Toronto Blue Jays in June, said Friday he's had discussions with the football staff about going out for football in the fall.

Heyman (6-4 1/2, 205) was an All-State quarterback and said he had offers from Rutgers, Syracuse and Buffalo as well as some Football Championship Subdivision programs. He said UM coaches told him he would come in as an athlete and potentially play "quarterback, receiver, really anywhere."

Darnell Dockett on Katherine Webb …
“And I would have got her if I really wanted her. But I don’t think she’s my type. I’m not into the thinner girls and the modeling thing like that. I like hood chicks. I like girls with a couple stab wounds, bullet holes, been knocked up a few times. I like girls who’ll be able to drive me and look over and be like ‘you know my driver’s license is suspended.’ I like girls who you know have bad credit when they’re 21.”

Plumlee.

I know people down the 'overrated' chant as you're supposedly discrediting your own team's accomplishment while its happening but I couldn't help but enjoy the fact he rimmed out two free throws while the crowd indulged in it as that blowout ran down. Effective psyche weapon.

Hassan

Plumlee is a great athlete and an improved player, I am not sure how much he is overrated because he is not rated super high. He is a good player and a great athlete. KK is a baller though and can have a good career in the L, he should thank coach L. All these kids learning to play real D should thank coach L because that will show up on tape and help them get in the league.

from caneinsider

Hialeah offensive coordinator Dennis Marroquin was tasked with the sit down meeting to discuss the talented T-Breds 2014 class with Golden and Cristobal (head coach Marc Berman was in another meeting at the time).

“They were there to talk about the 2014 kids, but they weren’t there to talk to the kids because that’s against the rules right now,” Coach Marroquin explained. “I had my list with our 2014 guys ready to go and we talked about that. We discussed what the Hialeah program was all about. By the end of the day, they showed their professionalism and the energy in the room was big. It was a very straight forward meeting.”

“It was like meeting with two head coaches,” Marroquin said. “It was a complete team effort between the two. You could tell that they were professional–very professional. Those guys came and meant business. It wasn’t a game, it was straight business.”

Now THAT'S! what I'm talkin' about, VERY! good stuff Hassan.
It's about time we reached out and made some inroads in Hialeah, that's an area I felt we've lost ground on in the past.

Now if we can get the "Boyz In The Muck" down wit' it, we'll be alright.

What's this joker blabbing on about free passes?

Ale House, this is from an article about why the Lakers suck this year, tell me where D'No and Al's plushies are on this example?

There are two types of coaches …

1. A coach who looks at his players and says, "How can I put these guys in the best position for them to succeed?"

2. A coach who looks at his players and says, "How can I use these guys to make my system succeed?"

Now, think about the mind-set driving Coach No. 2: He's basically saying, I'm here only because of my system. I can't actually coach. If you give me the wrong players for my system, it doesn't matter — I will keep using the system anyway, because Plan B would be coming up with a more inventive way to coach these guys. And I can't do that. I'm not good enough. So if it's OK with you, I'd like to go down in flames with my system."

Coach #2 is responsible for any clouds over the football program Ale. Plus, a shoddy carpenter always blames his tools.
