Trust me: "I GOT THIS!"

LB

"Listen from the 9:00 mark they talked about why Alex Collins and all the South Florida recruits with talent and grades should go with the Canes WQAM Joe Rose with Jorge Milian"

Joe Rose is a talentless tool. Are we really that starved for information to mention that idiot here?

-------------------------
Agreed, but a certain amount of common sense has to be injected given:

1. The downgrade of coaching and talent since 2004-2010.
2. UM's never won an ACC title.
3. Winless in bowl games since 2006.
4. Miami's last ten win season? 2003 (Brock Berlin).

I cannot submit to the annual craziness of 12-0 predictions when those things are staring me right in the face.

However...

1. Al Golden has overachieved; despite a terrible defense, an irrational and possibly illegal NCAA investigation, a culture of apologetic mediocrity, dropped passes, and no tight end threat.
2. We have a top ten quarterback returning, possibly a top five.
3. Our entire offensive line is back.
4. We have the most dangerous player in college football in our backfield.
5. Most importantly, our schedule looks like GOLD.

Based on #5 alone, this team has no business winning less than 9 games and sweeping the ACC Coastal. Furthermore, let's win a bowl game and restore some respect to the orange and green.

UMike

LB..VERY well said my friend.

THIS POST IS BY TONYCANE, FOUND IT IN THE SPAM FILTER BIN:

Meanwhile, in the Fortress of Swagitude, otherwise occasionally known as the Hecht Athletic Center a titanic battle was waged. Al Golden fended off attack after attack, brandishing his tie like a bullwhip. His foe circled, face grim and eyes afire. The black pleather outfit of Golden’s opponent was a stark contrast to the gleaming, high tech confines of the athletic Fortress, a blackness broken only by the crimson “A” emblazoned on his chest. With another salvo General Saban was driven back towards an unusual device that stood in the back of the room. It resembled nothing more than an outsized crystal BCS Championship trophy. Standing to the side, Lane Kiffin looked on in alarm. “Don’t go in there General, it’s a trap! It’s an NCAA Punishment Sphere. It turns programs like yours into programs like mine.” Standing next to a hushed Donna Shalala, a giddy Emert added, “He’s correct.” General Saban growled at Shalala, “Cease this struggle…this futile effort to regain your status, or I will tear your program apart.” Al Golden looked to his president, who stifled a sob as she nodded. Kiffin walked confidently towards General Saban. “Coach…I mean General, I believe the Shapiro testimony activates the mechanism.” Saban sneered and beckoned Golden to enter the chamber. The Miami coach sagged, all hope now lost. Golden entered the crystal sphere, which quickly slid shut. Moments later the Hecht hall was bathed in a green and orange glow as the device activated. Shalala sobbed, realizing that the revenue producing engine for the athletic department was being ground to powder. And finally it was over. The chamber opened and Golden staggered out, his powers gone. Saban stood tall and beckoned him to kneel. The Miami coach complied. “And now. Finally. Take my hand, and swear eternal loyalty to Saban.” He held out his hand. Golden slowly reached out and took it. And then he squeezed. A resounding crunching filled the room as Saban gasped in horror. His powers undiminished, Golden effortlessly lifted the coach with one hand and held him up for all to see. Finally he gave Saban a sad shake of the head and tossed him out an open window. Onto the U-haul truck that was waiting to take him back to the NFL. It was Kiffin who summized what had happened. “He switched it!”, he exclaimed. “The testimony was obtained incorrectly. The lights were on out here, and the Miami program was safe in there.” Donna Shalala turned to Emert and said, “You know something? You’re a real pain in the neck!” She then delivered a stunning drop kick that would have made Dwayne Johnson blush, sending Emert tumbling out the window and into another waiting vehicle, never to return to Coral Gables.

Ohio...I saw the Coley to UM news and the NCAA stuff broke yesterday. Besides that and big Duke blowout what did I miss?

That was it besides some small recruiting tidbits. Thought U hadn't seen the internet at all yesterday lol

86Cane

I was able to check in once in a while from Homestead but had no time to post on the blog. Working for a living sucks, but I guess it beats the alternative? LOL

I'll be here all day today and will try to churn out some new blogs for later today and the weekend.

UMike

**To say it has been an exciting two days would be an understatement. First, the NCAA announces there was "improper conduct" in their investigation of Miami, then the basketball team beat Duke by 27, and then of course the hiring of James Coley became official today. Not only will the hire pay dividends for Miami over the next couple years, but this will help immediately as well.

**I've spoken to five local coaches about the hire and they are all ecstatic about the possibilities as far as recruiting. One of them questioned this current staff's ability to develop talent, but admitted only time will tell. A prominent coach also told me, "Miami got their big fish."

**It was an electric atmosphere at the basketball game last night and there were plenty of top targets in attendance, including Matthew Thomas, Alex Collins, Jermaine Grace, Stacy Coley, Jamal Carter, and 2014 commit Travis Rudolph.

Thomas: "6" is obviously the #1 target on the board for Miami at this point, and it was huge that he was on campus for the game. Denzel Perryman was with him for a good part of the night, and he was seen with LB Coach Micheal Barrow and Golden as well. After today's news of James Coley joining the staff as well as another piece of information I received, I would put the percentage of him choosing Miami at 75%, and that's being conservative.

Collins: Last night helped with Collins more than anybody. He was with Duke Johnson for a majority of the night, and his mother, who is pushing Miami, was there as well. Collins stood and threw up the "U" as students chanted his name and he seemed to be thoroughly enjoying the experience. He was seen on campus with his mother well after the game was over. At this point, I would be very surprised to see him anywhere other than Miami. Something to also factor in here is the fact that he was concerned about the NCAA issues, which the coaches can now downplay with the recent news.

Great read...

LB I agree with most of your above statements except the 2003 team won despite Brock Berlin they won because of the 6 first round draft picks in Vince Wilfork, Jon Vilma, DJ Williams, Sean Taylor, Kellen Winslow II, Vernon Carey. Berlin threw 12 Tds and threw 17 ints on the 11-2 5th ranked team in the country. The next year 2004 Berlin balled out to like 26 Tds and like 13 ints but the talent around him wasn't as good and the team went 9-4. QB is important but u have to have great talent all around.

THIS IS FROM UMIKE, FROM A FEW DAYS AGO:

I only call out 86 and others for things related to UM, the NOA and recruiting. I don't get into people's personal lives. I want the focus to be one BS being spouted as based on imaginary sources and BS "Internet reporting"

Posted by: Imaginary sources | January 22, 2013 at 12:29 PM

While not every piece of information has been accurate, the information for "Sk****z", whoever he is, HAS been right on more than a few occasions. I will give one very easy example. This person told us about the wildcat WAY in advance. He also told us Crawford was the one lining up at QB in that package. Initially I wasn't sure how true that was because as the season went on I didnt see it, but then sure enough it happened. I knew about it months in advance, and it wasnt something reported by any local media people, I learned through an e-mail.

It is not my job to defend 86, he is a grown man and can handle that himself, and he does, BUT, for someone like myself who also sees this information, it is like you are speaking to me also. So I will say this, while not always correct, the information is normally correct. "Legit" media people get it wrong also.

And what is so wrong with 86 passing on information from a person who has proven to be correct on many occasions? I am just not sure why people feel the need to take time out of their lives to post about 86 or Canespace..makes no sense really.

Papa Cane - Predictions Could Change - If NSD Were Today: Matthew Thomas, Alex Collins, Denver Kirkland, Jermaine Grace & Stacey Coley to UM, DL Keith Bryant to FSU & Rashard Robinson to LSU but the 1st is a toss up. DL Jaynard Bostwick to Miami and a player to be named later that coaches are working on.

LB

Cool stats:

-If the dropped passes dwould have slowed, Stephen Morris's completion percentage would be hovering around 70%.
-Despite it all, Eddie Johnson got 59 tackles (7.5 for loss).
-An oft-injured Duke Johnson got over 2000 yards.
-FSU still sucks.

You're welcome. :)

After what promises to be a successful signing day, the Miami Hurricanes will host a party across the street from the University of Miami campus at Buffalo Wild Wings in Sunset Place.

All fans are invited to attend the free event Feb. 6, which will run from 5-7 p.m. Food and beverage will be available for purchase. Head coach Al Golden and his staff will introduce fans to their 2013 signing class.

WQAM and Jorge Sedano will broadcast live on location from 3-7 p.m. Fans will also have a chance to renew their season tickets for the 2013 season and take photos with Sebastian the Ibis and Miami's spirit squads.

During the day, HurricaneSports.com will have in-depth and up-to-the-minute Signing Day coverage and will feature a live video stream with Joe Zagacki and Don Bailey Jr., a live chat, text messaging service with updates as NLIs become official. Al Golden will meet with the media at 4 p.m. at Hecht Athletic Center before the Canes signing class public celebration.

Bobby Cremins, a member of the COI, just said publicly on sirius radio, that the NCAA should have been, "really, really skeptical," of Shapiro as a source. I just have this image in my head of the infractions committee receiving the NOA from the enforcement committee and asking them, "are you fu**ing kidding me?" It sounds like they are looking at a bunch of uncorroborated allegations from a convicted felon and are wondering, "what the hell are we supposed to do with this crap?" The question is how hard will Emmert push the COI to come up with some kind of sanctions so that the whole investigation doesn't look like the farce that it obviously was.

From a Former FSU Player

When I heard that it was `Are you kidding me?'" Green said. "I'm happy for coach Coley, but I was not happy about the situation at all because I'm a Florida State guy. I like Miami too, but Florida State is my school. I don't understand how you let a guy like that get away, but it's doing things he wants to do. I think it's going to have an effect on us at Florida State, a big effect.

No recruits will get out of Miami now," Green said. "Coley is awesome. That's one of the best aspects about him is his recruiting. Great recruiters don't come along all the time. He's a truly great one. I guarantee you, these kids out of Miami - one thing is he realizes what his talent base is. Coley was still a South Florida guy even recruiting from (Tallahassee) - now he doesn't have to go anywhere because he'll do a lot of recruiting right here in town, will go out of town to get a quarterback, couple of linemen. But Coley, it's going to be like it was in the past where if you were from Miami you stay in Miami.

Green says he gives a ton of credit to Al Golden for the hire, saying "It's an awesome, awesome hire - Golden gets five thumbs up for this hire. And this is coming from an FSU guy. Golden's trying to correct his problem; now we have a problem."

Hassan

One point to make, I see Ohio again slinging Rumors and the entire blog use to jump on me for, I have brought Info here that proved to be be true far more times and more accurately then SK****Z but I am a bad guy? As anyone notices I no longer bring any intel, I keep it to myself. I can tell you that the guys from ITU, Canesport have NO sources. Ariz gets bits and pieces but it is mostly speculation. UPNorth good stuff can you please use your 6th sense to get me some winning lotto numbers for an up coming lotto. Hey btw who on the blog is a member of the hurricane club?

kenyon19ypr

I'm still bitter UpNorth. You have 12 days before I'm un-bitter haha...

Anyway, I'm late to the party again, but Coley! Guys, this is huge! The State of Miami is on its way back. No top recruit can even think about leaving South Florida, and if they do, well we have reach all over the state now. I can't wait for Collins and Kirkland to announce and then NSD. I'll be around all day then too and can't wait to celebrate some new Cane commitments with you guys.

What I'm hearing about this year though is that Coley coming to Miami won't have as big an impact as expected--but I wouldn't be surprised to see that change slightly.

And Michael Parker- he's a ESPN300 athlete, I don't think we've talked about him much. What do you guys think of him? He'll likely be a late addition because he's not choosing until March/April, but we're in his top two.

Schweaty Balls

Matthew Thomas: What a difference a day makes? With the move of offensive coordinator James Coley from Florida State to Miami, it makes the Hurricanes the team to beat. No coach has spent more time recruiting Thomas over the past two seasons than Coley. Florida State is supposed to host Thomas on his official visit this week and the 'Noles staff will be scrambling to replace the relationship Thomas has with Coley. I'm not ready to completely pencil in Thomas as a member of the Hurricanes' recruiting class -- because the five-star OLB has said that he's very close with FSU head coach Jimbo Fisher -- but with his two favorite assistants (Coley and Miami defensive coordinator Michael Barrow) in the same place, that appears like a lot to overcome.

Georgia and Alabama remain on the board because of the scheduled visits, but this is an FSU-Miami battle until the end. Thomas took a visit to USC over the weekend but according to a source he called Miami and FSU coaches during the visit to tell them how the trip was going. Also Thomas wants a stable coaching situation, and nothing about USC's current situation can be considered stable.

Why is everyone on Skai Moore? he is good yeah but come on, if you are on a SFLA LB/Rush End that is undervalued if should be Lance Virgile. He was just selected to play in the "international bowl"
He is literally ALL WORLD and balled at St Thomas, he had the game sealing INT for St Thomas in the Championship game and had 10 sacks.

2nd point is that you guys see kids as "projects" the staff see kids as "athletes" I have made a point before and i will again, this staff loves 6'4 ish long guys that can run. We are going to play a lot of 3-4 and You get these kids who are not polished you RS them and put weight on them and them turn them lose. Trust me in 2-3 years when you see these "projects" as RS Soph and RS JR's you will see a long fast team terrorizing QB's. Go down the list of 6'4ish long athletic guys the staff targets for LB/Rush End.

This new offer out i posted is a 6'4 kid, he plays basketball, he dad is 6'8 and he is only 17 is expected to grow. He would RS and put on weight.

"How do you know its been bad? I guess only the real fans give money when times are down."

That's nonsense.

I argue that real fans withhold their dispensable income when their team stinks, and force the powers that be to either change... or lose money. That's how fans have tangible control over their team. Why did Donna Shalala fire Randy Shannon? See the empty seats at the USF game and the numerous threats of withdrawing financial support if Shannon wasn't fired.

"Real fans" are overrated words.

I prefer "smart fans."

That's how we got Golden. It's all about the green. Influence the green, influence the team.

Hopefully, after the week we have had, it is the start of something spectacular.

If you are a supporter of the program, any program for that matter, you will give money regardless of what happens on the field. When you pick and choose and only support when times are good, there is another fan type for people like that, and they are called fair weather fans. Its comments like that why Miami is labeled one of the worst sports town's in America.

NY Trooper

I would hope a strong fan base that also gives financial support would assist in making moves like hiring an OC like Coley, and his bump in salary of $110,000, happen.

Schweaty Balls

Agreed NYT. Only a strong fan base, who support the program through thick and thin regardless of the play on the field, can survive.

Unlike the fair weather comments above from LB, its the fans and supporters of the program that allow the Coley types of moves to take place. It angers me to no end when I read crap like that from people.

CaneRock

We BETTER! not be runnin' no 3-4.
Hell, GT had prototype DLmen and LBs, and Al Groh still got fired.
Besides, 3-4 DLmen just aren't native to Dade County, so we don't even need to be trying to fit that square peg into that round hole.

I see the U has offered Justin Madison 6'4 205 olb/rush-end out of Tampa i believe Cristabol was recruting him, also a b-ball player

That doesn't make sense, and it doesn't translate into effectiveness. You're terming "fair weather fans" like it's a bad thing. Why do you think Yankee fans get so many rings? You may fall into the Joe Rose diehard crowd, but eventually it looks foolish defending Randy Shannon after he gets waxed for his sixth loss of the year.

In fact, it's counter-productive. True-believerism is naive. I too suffered through the foul stench of the 48-0 beating of the last game of the Orange Bowl. Televised. Stunk. No bowl wins since 2006.

What if someone fundamentally disagrees with the direction of the said program? Would you go to the grocery store and buy old meat? Would you vote in an election for someone you know is corrupt and quite possibly harmful to your core values (Golden pop) even if they were your own political party?

I'm not from Florida, but I love the Canes. I grew up loving them, and I could care less about the other teams. I love the Canes. Love them. I want them to win the title every year. However, I'm discerning enough to realize that do so requires the correct set of circumstances. The only way fans influence the decision makers is through money.

Of course it sounds cold and terrible, but that's what sports is. Sports is entertainment. Take it from a parallel angle: Batman Begins made a profit, hence you get The Dark Knight. Green Lantern failed, and that's why WB is hesitant to give it a sequel.

That's the point. People influence entertainment. Are you telling me you'll waste your money on a "lost ship?" Come on.

I'll take good coaching and a chance to compete (Golden's Miami) over a consistently mediocre football program (Duke).

LB

Even if I don't agree with the previous posters, this is really interesting conversation. Much more deep than most of the nonsense out there. Personal, intellectual, philosophical, and cool.

That's why CaneSpace is the place to be.

Same sentiment here but for different reasons than non-native to Dade linemen.

With the majority of spread principle zone read offensive teams UM faces year in and out, I'd rather see a return to the '83 team's 5-2 than see a 3-4 in the first place, in the second place, 4-3 puts more pressure on an offense from a schematic point of view than a 3-4, which is employing blitz calls from certain parts of the passing targets field of play as their way of generating pressure by comparison.

Finally, all this doesn't matter because a team that's rangy and can pressure the QB won't do it when your scheme is asking linemen to just eat space to free up your players who are vacating passing lanes to generate pressure because if the lineman is only being asked to eat space and not pressure the QB, why would the OL blocking him not disengage to occupy your blitzing LB instead of not having to stop the pocket from collapsing?

Off to watch Cooley play calls from his horrible (even worse than Fisch at the Gophers!) year of coordinating to remind myself why this year's team is going to come up short in the division. When a team that got lapped by the Turds thinks you're doing something right, there's a major red flag flying over where you're treading.

I would like to add my 2 cents on Michael Parker..The way i see it he quit his football team to work on his grades which was not good enough to get in the U where he and his mom wants him to be. Now he might not make it in,but wanting to concentrate on his academics should be something we commend him for.I don't know anything about him not wanting to get hurt,if anyone knows better school me i'm hoping the coaches give him another look.

Via Canesinsight board:

Some really cool stuff for recruitniks (i.e. Canespace until football season)...

"The ‘Canes found themselves in fierce recruiting battles with many from their own backyard like running back Alex Collins (South Plantation), wide receiver Stacy Coley (Oakland Park Northeast), offensive lineman Denver Kirkland (Booker. T. Washington), linebacker Matthew Thomas (Booker T. Washington), and defensive tackles Jaynard Bostwick (Port St. Lucie, Fla./St. Lucie West Centenniel) and Keith Bryant (Delray Beach, Fla./Atlantic).

You can bet that Coley and Cristobal certainly gives the edge to Miami now with many of that group above.

Looking ahead, it’s an absolutely loaded 2014 class in south Florida next season. Virtually every top positional recruit from the Sunshine State will be from south Florida (Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties) like running back Sony Michel (Plantation, Fla./American Heritage), wide receiver Ermon Lane (Homestead, Fla.), tight end Ravian Pierce (Plantation, Fla.), offensive lineman K.C. McDermott (Wellington, Fla./Palm Beach Central), defensive end Chad Thomas (Miami, Fla./Booker T. Washignton), defensive tackle Khairi Clark (Hollywood, Fla./Chaminade Madonna), cornerback Nigel Patton (Miami, Fla./Booker T. Washington), and safety Quincy Wilson (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla./University School).

Then you have incredible athletes like Treon Harris (Miami, Fla./Booker T. Washington) and Quinton Flowers (Miami, Fla./Jackson) who can play multiple positions and could be the two most versatile players in the state next season.

And I haven’t even mentioned standout players like running backs Joseph Yearby (Miami, Fla./Central) and Dalvin Cook (Miami, Fla./Central), offensive tackle Trevor Darling (Miami, Fla./Central), defensive tackle Trevonte Valentine (Palm Bay, Fla./Bayside) and wide receiver Jacob McCrary (Miami, Fla./Coral Reef) and Corey Holmes (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas)."

It is a bad thing, having fair weather fans is the problem with Miami. They only come out when the program is winning and when there 6-6, 7-6 season, no one cares. I look at these comments and its things like that which is the difference between Miami and the likes of Alabama. Remember, Alabama was not always winning titles. They had Mike Shula as a coach who sucked. But those die hards still filled Bryant Denny Stadium every Saturday win or lose. But they let the Alabama administration know about it, and now they Nick Saben. But they don't get Nick Saben w/o the financial support of people, even when they were losing. Its really the biggest difference between Miami and schools like that.

I look at that just b/c my team is losing, I am not going to waver on my support. What I have is the hope that the administration knows that losing is not acceptable and will do right by making the changes necessary. But its people that continue to give the support that allows the school to hire and pay Al Golden so Al Golden can bring a winner back and hire the liked of James Coley. If everyone who supported Miami pulled all their money back, the program would never exist. So we as fans, need to hope and trust they make the right decison to replace the likes of awful coaches like Randy Shannon. But I will certainly continue to give my support so I can see Miami win again and bury my head in the sand until it happens, like a fair weather fan.

I also see it like this: when Miami hired Al Golden we as Canes fans knew Shannon left him with nothing and it was obvious by what we saw in that Sun Bowl game. But we were really excited for the prospects of whats to come. But let me ask you this, knowing how excited you were when Miami hired Golden but also knowing losing was still going to happen over the short term, are you saying you would not give money to Miami to help Golden build a winner? That to me is garbage and short sighted and fans like that are not "true" fans.

I was AT that last Orange Bowl game, I was AT the ND game this year, and a bunch of other Randy Shannon games where I knew Miami was going to get pummeled. But I was still there. But I was also at the last 2 title games too and those great FSU games so I am there all the time. But I will not waver in my support and the little that I give each year I hope will go to making Miami what it was and what we all think it should be.
