Fear The Spear! That is what we always hear from the FSU faithful.
Oh yes, we are certain that it is a very proud and popular saying all around the Florida State campus in Tallahassee. That flaming, well you know, spear thing that they always like to throw around.
But probably not so much in South Florida. At least not so much anymore.
Which is exactly why University of Miami head coach Jim Larranaga and his men's basketball team sent a brief and personal message to the FSU team:
Take your spear, flaming and all, and just stuff it!
Your Miami Hurricanes confiscated and then destroyed any remaining and flaming spears that the formerly mighty Noles may have had left after losing their best recruiter and offensive coordinator James Coley to the UM football team and Hurricane head coach Al Golden just last week.
Here is how the flame went out tonight at the BankUnited Center:
Trey McKinney Jones scored 15 points Sunday for the Miami Hurricanes, and the Atlantic Coast Conference leaders won their seventh game in a row by beating Florida State, 71-47.
The blowout victory before a capacity crowd was the second in a row for the 25th-ranked Hurricanes, ensuring a significant jump in Monday's poll. They drubbed No. 1 Duke on Wednesday.
Miami (15-3, 6-0) is off to its best start in the conference, alone atop the standings, and is 9-0 at home. Florida State (11-8, 3-3) fell to 0-3 this season against ranked teams.
The Seminoles endured repeated long scoring droughts against Miami's man-to-man defense and shot a season-low 31 percent, the fourth time in the past five games they've been under 42 percent. Their starters went 7 for 26 and totaled 19 points.
Miami has not allowed an opponent to shoot better than 50 percent from the field this season. Michael Snaer went 2 for 5 and was held to four points, 10.5 below his average. The Seminoles went 3 for 17 from 3-point range.
McKinney Jones had three 3-pointers for the Hurricanes, who went 8 for 22 from beyond the arc. Durand Scott and Kenny Kadji scored 11 points apiece, and Shane Larkin had eight points, nine rebounds and six assists. The Hurricanes had a 44-32 rebounding edge and outscored the Seminoles 15-2 on second-chance points.
Tonight's Game News and Notes:
The attendance for tonight's game was 7,972. This is the first time in program history that there have been back-to-back sellouts at the BankUnited Center.
The starters for Miami were Shane Larkin, Durand Scott, Trey McKinney Jones, Kenny Kadji and Julian Gamble.
Miami starts conference play 6-0 for the first time in school history, dating back to the 1991-92 season when UM joined the BIG EAST Conference.
UM is on a seven-game winning streak for the first time since the Canes won eight-straight in 2009-10. That season UM went on to a 15-1 record to start the season before dropping four-straight ACC games.
Miami held Florida State to 47 points. This is the fifth time this season that Miami has held opponents to 50 or fewer points, most recently on Jan. 13, 2013 against Maryland (47).
The Canes held FSU's shooting to 30.8 percent from the field. The Canes have held 30 opponents to less than 41 percent from the field under Coach Larranaga, including 14 of 18 this season.
As much as I would like to stop the Ely to LSU pipeline..I dont think Robinson flips.

ESPN Power Poll (not one of the "official" polls) has UM at #13:
It was a fantastic week for the Hurricanes. Miami hammered No. 1 Duke by 27 points and topped Florida State on Sunday to remain the lone undefeated team in ACC play, and it also got big man Reggie Johnson back from a broken thumb sooner than expected.

With the hire of Coley and some of the targets being between UM and FSU, anyone think Golden doesn't wanna stick it to Jimbob this year? A sort of "I warned U" statement from last year when he said "Get your licks in now".

The loss @ FGCU is going to hurt this team in rankings for now. Win @ V-Tech and @ NC State this week and they should be top 10 for sure.
It was a horrible loss. It could still haunt them come tournament ranking time as well; unless they finish with only 5 or 6 L's.

Shocker..
Keith Bryant says his latest trip to USC was the best yet. Did South Carolina move up his list after his official visit to Columbia?
Posted by: UMike | January 28, 2013 at 02:04 PM
As The "U" rose up the rankings to #14 with a 15-3 record & on a 7 game winning streak. I must say... COLLEGE HOOPS RANKINGS ARE FULL OF SHYT.
How do you remain in the top 5 after getting masacred by 27? All you have to be is Duke. They dropped from #1 to #5. Smmfh
We're ranked behind 3 teams with 4 losses.
#11 Ohio St 15-4
#12 Louisville 16-4 (3 strait losses)
#13 Michigan St 17-4 (WE BEAT THEM???!!!) WTF
The final slap in the face in this weeks rankings:
Butler remains in the top 10 at #9 after losing to unranked LaSalle. THE "U" POUNDED LASALLE BY 17.
Bottom line, this is good motivation for Larranaga & his band of hardwood mercinaries. The lack of respect will inspire them to take care of biz @VaTech. Then, molest & mangle the over hyped preseason ACC favorites NCST on their home floor, on national television this saturday at 4pm. I can't wait to see this...
Just keep winning. THEY'LL FEEL US.

I agree G&T. If we don't lose to Gulf Coast, we would've been ranked since the win over Michigan St & would be top 10 right now.
The hoops pollsters are biased though. They're giving Duke a pass because they're playing without Ryan Kelly. Those fukk ass DUKE SUCKERS didn't give us a pass losing to Gulf Coast without Durand Scott or losing to Zona & Indiana St without big Reggie...

Finding it hard to see Collins being a Cane. With Edwards coming this weekend and the coaches really pushing hard to get this dude, something has to be up. The flip side of this, could it be we get both. I know they are trying to cover their butts, in case Collins, does head to Arky but do they take both, if they both want to come? As much as I whine about our DT situation, This Bryant kid thinks he's a freaking Prima Donna. If we get him good and if we don't, which it looks that way, we ain't sweaten your loss hoss!

Fisch was always featuring Crawford as a direct snap weapon, with whatever UM is going to run now he might need to find a real position instead of a gimmick to be used as or else get lost in the shuffle.
When you have a QB making a record book run like Morris was piling up last year when he was on, I always question why you're direct snapping the ball out of his hands, what's the alternative? Crawford simply running it isn't a good enough answer to me because a good defense is coming after him in the backfield with everything they can throw at him and Crawford faking a run to throw it is an even worse answer than him running it IMO. Keep the ball in Morris' hands and keep the defense afraid of the pass to the endzone from anywhere on the field instead.

I don't think so. I'm pretty sure Crawford sees his value as a versatile player and a scout team All-American. If it wasn't for him, the defense would have been less ready for anyone like EJ Manuel, Logan Thomas, etc.

Monty, you aren't sweating the Subban RFA negotiation are you? The Habs are a fringe playoff team right now, much better skill and speed but I think if they add PK back into the mix they can win their division. His chirpy-ness doesn't really bother me but then again, I'm probably as far removed from hockey team 'culture' as you can get so I want him to do a total 'Demolition Man'-era Rodman dyed hair heel turn just to get to see him get into a fight and lose his helmet to reveal this:

I could be wrong a about transferring soon but I'm probably right about transferring eventually.
If the RB stable looks like this going into his redshirt junior year. He'll leave & would be a idiot not to.
Jr Duke Johnson
So Alex Collins
So Danny Dillard
Fr Augustus Edwards
Fr Sony Michel
He won't sniff the field with a stable like that...

Yes, that 'scout team all-american' sell job is always very popular draw with football players, they line up around the block to ink on the dotted line when you fish for them with that. Preparing the worse defense in school history for below average QB's who are most dangerous running the option is what every kid dreams of doing growing up playing football, why would he want anymore than that? You sure you didn't forget the " ;) " emoticon part of your post before hitting that button at the bottom of the page there k19?
