Collins & Coley can run, Unless he's talking about Whit, who can fly.
Early predictions, well I was about right on this year, with a 6-6 and a high of 7-5.
Fsu, will still be tough on defense and return 7 to 8 starters on offense, this will be a tough test for us at their place. UNC will be tough as we have one win up in Chapel Hill BUT that was then and this is now, the Herb wants you all to know that the climb back up the mountain is still a Process, to steal Goldie's line, and until we get the front 7 in order we could be in for more misery. Yes, will batter the cream puffs we finally have on our schedule but our biggest obstacle is ourselves. We have to beat the teams we are supposed to beat: the Virginia's & Marylands of the world. Aside from FSU, who has more overall talent? Sure Clemson has some talent but in the ACC you are looking at 4 teams you realistically have to watch out for: FSU, Va. Tech, Clemson & US. Will see how good Clemson is when Boyd leaves. I don't even count G. Tech or UNC, now that Butch is gone. The overall league is weak, so with that being said, I see 9-3 and a high of 10-2, it all depends on 2 things, we keep Morris healthy & we plug up the middle on defense.

In golden's talk with rosé today, he said there are few guys coming in this class with elite speed in reference to the track talk. Anyone know who they are?

Almost sure Artie Burns is one of them. Other one could be one of those things coach is keeping mum on.

Old Skool

I believe the firing of Mario leaves one Cane remaining as the head coach of a DIV 1 collegiate football team.

CGNC

FSU's got the cream of the crop for there schedule. No G. Tech, No Va. Tech & no UNC.

They play Clemson who beat LSU in their recent bowl

CGNC

86! You leaving me for 10-2????? I'm sticking to my 9-3.

CGNC

Harry, thanks for the info. Does Ricky really want to be surrounded by t-shirt wearing bubbas??? ;-D

Warren Sapp was announced as one of 15 "modern-era" finalists for selection to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

UMike

Definitly Burns,..he is nationally ranked in I think 110M hurdles..IDK who else he would mean in the 2013 class.

Old Skool

Burns is a champion hurdler. I doubt Golden's referring to Whitfield but ya never know

DONE!!! :-) Love the new hire....

LB

"I told them that I had heard that Duke did not work out a lot before coming to Miami and that he was working mostly on natural talent last year. Yandle confirmed that he had heard the same thing.

I told them after a full offseason working with Swasey under UTough that he could REALLY explode this season. Duke is also running track with Dorsett on the 4 x 100 relay team (see above comment by Freet from Twitter.)"

So you're telling us that Duke got 2,000 yards and 14 touchdowns (1 passing) with injuries and without a full workout regime? That is FRIGHTENING for opposing teams, especially with the manbeast Hagens and the o-line returning.

Anthonyjmanis

I thought Golden didn't want his guys to run track.

LB

If we were 8-4 and won a bowl game...

...I'd be on cloud nine. It's all about the bowl games for me. :)

I'm not sure about an actual win total prediction because of injury sake and due to the fact that the 2013 class is not yet complete.

But I say we outright take the Coastal, and stick to the win range as of now.

-----
As for FSU's schedule: their 2012 schedule was legendary in their creampuffness, including the ACC title game and their bowl game. It was pathetic on a universal scale...

...and they still lost twice. PATHETIC. Nobody tops the Noles when it comes to suckfest creampuff schedules. Nobody. I expect them to jump to Conference USA anyday now.

Do you realize that in the past few years, their schedules have included...
Idaho, Wofford, Nevada (2013)
Murray State, Savannah State, South Florida, Northern Illinois (2012)
Charleston Southern, LA Monroe (2011).

And to think, with all the presumed talent and recruiting classes...

...do you all realize how many conference titles they've won since 2006? One. Last year vs. a 7 loss Georgia Tech. They've also lost 38 games during that span.

It's about time UM caught a break. UM clung to dear life as a program under Larry Coker, Randy Shannon, and Nevin Shapiro's nonsense. These clowns had presumably the best talent in the country.

Sheesh.

86Cane

Just had a nice convo with Freet and Yandle from UM about Duke Johnson.

I told them that I had heard that Duke did not work out a lot before coming to Miami and that he was working mostly on natural talent last year. Yandle confirmed that he had heard the same thing.

I told them after a full offseason working with Swasey under UTough that he could REALLY explode this season. Duke is also running track with Dorsett on the 4 x 100 relay team (see above comment by Freet from Twitter.)

86Cane

Chris Freet‏@ChrisFreet

Interesting: @GoldenAl told @JoeRoseShow that he would love 4 football team to have title worthy 4x100 team. Dorsett & Duke prepping 4 track

Ohio_Cane

I'll wait to make my prediction once I see who is red-shirting, who is starting, how the UTough goes, etc.

Terrance Sullivan

Lb right on. I am going with 11-3 I am including ACC title game and bowl game. CGNC and 86 nice predictions.

86Cane

CGNC is sticking with 9-3.

I am going with 10-2 for 2013.

86Cane

FROM CFTALK ON TWITTER:

At least 67 underclassmen have now officially declared for the 2013 draft. Last year's total of 65 had been the record-high.

calGary Cane

No excuses for 2013?

calGary Cane

My early prediction: Miami takes the Coastal and finishes somewhere in the 8-11 win range.

UpNorthCane27

But FSU will lose to NCST, Virginia, and THE U!!!

5 ships ago

FSU's got the cream of the crop for there schedule. No G. Tech, No Va. Tech & no UNC.

LB

With a team like this, schedule is THE most important factor of the 2013 season. It looks very promising, doesn't it? And for the ACC, they need a national power. Now.

This team should absolutely sweep the Coastal.

- Virginia Tech strikes me as a team that reached its peak under Michael Vick. Solid program. It'll be competitive. But I also sense that UM passed them. They are weak in bowl games and vs. out of conference competition.
- Georgia Tech lives and dies under the option. Good luck.
- Duke is still a basketball first school, and lost its meaningful games.
- There is no reason to lose to UVA four years in a row. Not with Morris as your QB.
- UNC lost its best weapon to the NFL. The Butch Davis recruits are fading.

Sweep the Coastal. There is no excuse and no reason why we shouldn't.

Wake, Pittsburgh, and Florida State. Wake is weak and Pittsburgh loses their best weapon to the NFL. That's two more wins.

Our out of conference schedule (minus Florida) is CAKE.

So, am I crazy for seeing some daylight here? No Notre Dame. No Clemson. No Kansas State.

The ceiling is 11 wins. I absolutely believe that, and I'm being realistic. FSU loses E.J. Manuel and the Gators lost to Louisville. It is in the realm of possibility that UM (provided we improve on D) takes one of those games.

The floor is 8 wins.

My early prediction: Miami takes the Coastal and finishes somewhere in the 8-11 win range.

Call me crazy, but I see it...

... and that's pretty freaking sweet.

Well, it's good to see they gave us a brake with Va. Tech, being at home. That was tough with UNC, FSU & Tech all on the road.

Hey Noobie, what about the Herb, I'm here! Geeze, I feel left out!

Terrance Sullivan

I like our schedule got to win the Coastal Division, at least 10 games including bowl game. Would love for our Canes to win ACC title and win the Orange Bowl. The Road to Charlotte starts now.

Noobie

Sorry, just wondering

I don't always agree with OGV, but I'm surprised his comments are getting deleted, like the one from yesterday

They're not offensive or profane, and he's a grown man and pretty smart.i hope he continues to post because its important to have different viewpoints. We don't all have to agree

LB

Schedule up (in order of difficulty):

HOME
vs. UF
vs. Va. Tech
vs. Ga. Tech
vs. Wake
vs. UVA
vs. UAF
vs. Savannah State

AWAY
at FSU
at UNC
at USF
at Pitt
at Duke

Seven home games, including our toughest. Looks good to me.

As for Dobard, listen to the link above for the Caneinsight podcast. He's going nowhere, and he's probably our biggest recruiter of 2013 (as Ohio correctly pointed out).

Criticism is good and healthy. A team who is winless in bowl games since 2006 absolutely deserves it. But bashing a team on the rise with a great schedule vs. mostly crappy teams is unwarranted.

UMike

MIAMI'S 2013 NON-CONFERENCE FOOTBALL OPPONENTS

2. Valid criticism of the team's performance is totally acceptable (see my article titled "Room For Improvement") but bashing of individuals is not going to be tolerated.

Posted by: Terrance Sullivan | January 10, 2013 at 11:25 PM

With how our attendance was last year, they better bring back the $99 season tickets or in this year's case $119 since we have seven home games and they should just eliminate parking fees overall!

That will help our attendance number this upcoming season!

Sean Spence is a Beast!!!

On the recruiting trail, Cristobal's presence is already starting to make positive strides, specifically at Northeast HS. Why should you care? Coley. http://canesinsight.com/content.php?1235-Donnell-Bennett-Reacts-to-Cristobal-Hire-Update-on-Coley

Posted by: LB | January 11, 2013 at 09:17 AM

•••Interesting quotes from that article, that lead me to believe that Coley will ink with UM on NSD:

"I'm not sure about that because I don't know too much about Coach Carroll. I'm sure Coach Golden made a decision that he believes we will work out to put our receiving corps to be even better."

One of the major story lines that came with former WR Coach George McDonald leaving Miami was how it would affect the recruitment of Bennett's star receiver, Stacy Coley.

"It's tough to say. I talked to Stacy about it earlier and he's just going to have to meet Coach Carroll and see where he plans to go with the receivers and see if that benefits him."

A positive for Miami is that RB's Coach Terry Richardson (Northeast alum) has been on Coley since early in the process.

"He's been involved from day 1."

Bennett's ties to Miami are another factor in favor of the 'Canes chances.

"It definitely helps Stacy that I played there. It's been awhile so I won't have the answer to every question that comes up, but I'll definitely be able to help with a lot of stuff since I went through it myself."

Big win by the hoops team last night. NC hoop fans are not use to losing but they better get use to it this season. I am sure Mario has aspirations to be a head coach again, therefore I am going to enjoy his time back at the U. I think he will take recruiting to another level. Although the Hurricanes finished last season at 7-5, there were a lot of exciting things many of us saw from the young team.

The offense, which only returned four starters from the previous year, had seven games in which they scored over 40 points per game.

Quarterback Stephen Morris broke school and ACC records while true freshman Duke Johnson proved to the entire country that he will be a force to be reckoned with for years to come.

The only problem with the Canes last season was defense. The unit finished No. 116 in the country in total defense and if they don't improve over the offseason, we may see another subpar year from Miami.

Here are five X-factors for the Hurricanes' 2013 season if they want to improve on that 7-5 record.....

With a little under four weeks remaining before national signing day, the Miami Hurricanes football coaching staff is buckling down on the recruiting trail.

Though the Canes only graduated four top seniors—Mike James, Brandon McGee, Jake Wieclaw and Dalton Botts—a need for more depth still lingers.

Head coach Al Golden is still pursuing a good number of players to replace those four key players, but certain positions are the focal point.

Here are those three positions that must be filled by signing day...

He's one of the fastest football players around, but will Miami receiver Phillip Dorsett's speed translate to the track?

He'll find out this weekend in Kentucky as the St. Thomas Aquinas product joins the Miami indoor track and field team. He's scheduled to compete in the 60m dash and as part of the 4x400 relay team.

The Hurricanes will be competing in the Kentucky Invitational on Friday and Saturday at the University of Kentucky in Lexington.

Dorsett led all Miami receivers in his sophomore season with 842 yards and 58 catches.

His explosive speed was obvious on his 21 plays that covered 25-plus yards. Career-highs came in consecutive games with 184 yards at Georgia Tec. He followed that a 191-yard afternoon including the game-winning 62-yarder against NC State with 19 seconds left.

UM Hurricanes football coach Al Golden always reminds his players to "uphold the legacy.''

Al is doing a pretty good job of it himself.

Bringing in Mario Cristobal as an assistant coach and associate head coach makes him the third former Hurricanes player to serve as one of the main assistants.

The others, of course, are linebackers coach Micheal Barrow and offensive line coach Art Kehoe.

Former UM players are thrilled. I spoke to a couple of them who were coached by Mario when he was a graduate assistant. Both were on the offensive line and started on the 2001 national championship team -- right tackle Joaquin Gonzalez and right guard Martin Bibla.
