Tomorrow night in Boca Raton (literally translated: mouth of the rat) your 20th-ranked University of Miami Hurricanes will face the Owls of Florida Atlantic University in a college baseball showdown. Here are the quick stats and facts heading into tonight's contest in South Florida:
TV: None Radio: WVUM 90.5 FM - Chris Wittyngham & Ernesto Suarez
Twitter: @CanesBaseball Facebook: /TheUBaseball
Series: Miami leads, 51-10
Last Meeting: April 24, 2012. Miami won, 3-1 in Coral Gables.
Miami 3-0 (0-0 ACC) vs FAU 3-0 (0-0 Sun Belt)
The Pitching Matchup: Two freshmen southpaws will make their first collegiate starts Wednesday: for the Hurricanes, Lighthouse Point, Fla., native Thomas Woodrey (0-0, 0.00 ERA), and for FAU, Lake Worth, Fla., native Brandon Rhodes (0-0. 0.00 ERA).
The Series: The Hurricanes hold a 51-10 all-time advantage over the Owls, including eight of the last ten head-to-head contests. Miami swept their three games with FAU in 2012, including a 3-1 win last time out at Alex Rodriguez Park.
The Broadcast: WVUM 90.5 will carry Wednesday's game at FAU. Tune in via radio dial, or online at WVUM.org. Our friends Chris Wittyngham and Ernesto Suarez will be on the call.
The Coach: Jim Morris is in his 35th season as a head coach and 20th with the Miami Hurricanes. He has a 1,488-629-4 (.701) career record, including a 853-321-3 mark at Miami, where he has guided the team to two National Championships (1999, 2001).
Opening Day Magic: After leading by three runs heading into the ninth inning, Hurricanes' closer AJ Salcines set up a tense situation by surrendering three runs and the Canes' lead. Garrett Kennedy would provide some needed ninth-inning magic, however, dropping a pinch-hit single into left field with bases loaded that plated Chris Barr and Dale Carey for the walk-off win.2013 Recruiting Class Impresses: The Canes' incoming class was rated among the top groups nationwide by multiple publications. Miami's group of newcomers earned the first top 10 distinction from Baseball America since 2006, coming in at 10th-best in the nation. Collegiate Baseball ranked Miami's recruiting class ninth-best in the country. Eight Hurricanes made their debuts in the sweep of Rutgers: Chris Barr, Ricky Eusebio, Frank Grandinette, Alexander Hernandez, Grant Heyman, Brandon Lopez, David Thompson and Thomas Woodrey.
Starting Off Strong: Despite missing two top arms due to injury (Eric Whaley and Bryan Radziewski), the Hurricanes starters put on an impressive showing in their opening series with Rutgers. LHP Chris Diaz, RHP Javi Salas and LHP Andrew Suarez combined for 17 innings in three starts, and did not allow any earned runs.
I wouldn't expect anything more from you cocane!

Mario is still on the staff and has NOT signed with Bama.
That said, I still fully expect him to leave and it'd be a miracle if he didn't.

I know one of you guys are good enough with photoshop to make Mt. Canesmore happen. Schnell, Jimmy, Irvin and Ray Ray. Bernie not on the Mt. Maybe he can get a memorial?
Posted by: The Dude | February 19, 2013 at 08:41 PM
I hope so. I want to. I think right now overall they're doing a great job in this situation. That doesn't mean they've turned the ship all the way around or that they will. They still have work to do. I hope they get it done because they haven't yet. So I won't act they have. Ijs...

Griffin is almost 6'7 and over 220 lbs and runs a 4.5 basically a H.S version of Jimmy Graham.
He has grade issues but I say Grey shirt him and let him add weight, he will probably be a TE as he keeps growing, he will be 240 in 24 months.

Can we give a scholarship to a grey shirt?
If he is a non-qualifier academically, how does he get admitted to any D-1 school?

All you Golden/Shalala haters can stick it! Golden has turned around the offense and special teams, plus he's the best one-armed recruiter in the country! Defense is on deck! My bet is we get the 4 star tackle out of Louisiana before April!
And anyone who thinks Donna isn't a cane please go kill yourself and save me the trouble! She has positioned this athletic department to be relevant and competitive in a changing NCAA environment. She could win the World Series of Poker if she ever took up cards! Chuck Norris wears Donna Shalala panties!
It's a cane thang...
Go 'canes!

You're not always going to blow everybody out but I don't like the way Larranaga is allowing the opponents to dictate the tempo the last couple of games.

For those asking why Golden added Derrick Griffin... He's the #3 WR (ESPN) or #7 WR (Scout). He can play TE, or he can split out wide. He is a FREAK of a an athlete in Football AND Bball. 6'7... Yes SIX FEET SEVEN INCHES.
Can U say Red Zone?

CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- A person with knowledge of the situation tells The Associated Press that the NCAA is accusing Miami of a "lack of institutional control" in the long-awaited notice of allegations against the Hurricanes.
The letter was delivered to Miami on Tuesday, said the person, who spoke on conditieon of anonymity because neither the NCAA nor the Hurricanes had authorized any public comment.
The institutional-control charge is typically one of the most severe the NCAA can bring in matters like this.
