College football fans the moment you have all been waiting for has finally arrived: Today, Wednesday, February 6 is National Signing Day 2013!
The recruiting process is over, scholarship offers have been made and now it is time for things to get serious and for the young and talented high school athletes to sign on the dotted line.
Beginning this morning high school football players from all across the Country will begin faxing in their official Letters Of Intent (LOI) to the university that they have chosen to attend.
At the University of Miami like at any other of the 120 or so major college football programs across the United States the scene will repeat itself over and over again as the LOIs are received via fax (do faxes even still exist?).
The action will be fast and furious early in the morning and throughout the day at the beautiful Hecht Athletic Center in lovely Coral Gables, Florida.
Once the LOI is received and verified by the UM coaches and compliance department then that recruit will be formally announced by UM first and then by media outlets and blogs like Canespace.
So stay tuned to Canespace throughout the day for the latest breaking news about surprise recruits and some near misses in the 2013 recruiting game.

RCCF12%, I agree with you. It seems like most of the level headed fans on this site are not from S. Florida.
A few days a ago Golden was great and now he sucks because we have a very good recruiting class. C'mon... At times U fans are so delusional and so finicky. That is why S. Florida fans have such a bad reputation.
Let's be happy with the players who did sign cause those are the ones we will be cheering for the next couple of years. These guys are true 'Canes.
Who knows, 2 years from now we may be saying what an unbelievable class we got.
For the foreseeable future. Golden ain't going anywhere so either cheer for him or find a different team rag on.

For now... I'll give a pass to the NCAA black cloud over the program. The fact that we haven't won big in while has made "U" unattractive. We still have a good, not elite class but still good. I still hope that this coaching staff can bring the results we hope for. I still think they can do it if they make the right adjustments & learn from their mistakes. Winning cures everything. I'm hoping they win the coastal next year & get the south florida talent back to swinging on our dikk. I still want Golden to succeed, because if he does, the "U" is back.
So lets talk about which frosh will make immediate impacts next year. Any opinions?

The Facts:
2011: No DT's on signing day. We later add King & Darius Smith.
2012: We have Moore verballed and steal Ivery from the Ville on signing day and get Briscoe.
2013: No DT's.
We flip Pierre & Grimble to tackles, from the 2011 class an add about 30 LBS to both in one year. To much weight to quick. Both will be JRS this coming season. We have Porter and Robinson who will be SRs, this year. I don't and haven't seen any star power out of none of those guys and we ain't bring in to much competition for them either. The major theme here is it's always down to the last few days if we are or are not getting any DT's. Why is that? I know Flo. is not usually a hot bed for big time DT's or for Linemen period, the same with LB's. I know we need to comb the U.S. to get some players, like linemen & LB's, but the rest is in our backyard. Kids are always going to flip and will continue to do so, until they get an early signing period but we should never be in this situation again, on signing day where we need to get a position of need filled.
The looming sanctions don't help but it didn't hurt us last year. There is no excuse. I think we got lax, picked a few certain players out and played Russian Roulette and lost. We had some nice additions, don't get me wrong but knowing one of our major weaknesses and not filling it after 4 months is pathetic! You win ships with defense and no we don't have the same things to offer as other major universities, like big stadiums, fancy weightrooms, big alumni bases and packed houses for every game but we have a past filled with ships and NFL alumnist and it's a pro town. Tic for tac however you want to weigh it, I don't care where the talent comes from as long as they produce but we have to stock pile depth of talent sometime or another. I have eyes and I can look at other sites and see why they are on top and are staying there. The SEC is the premier football conference and is going to remain that way from what I witness in recruiting today. We need to worry about building a championship defense first and foremost and until we do that, we are going to wallow aroung in this sucky azz conference, struggling to beat the Virginia's of the world.

My impact freshmen:
1) Gus Edwards
2) Artie Burns
But I think Sandland and Bond will start and their impact will be noticed this spring. If Bond does half of what he did at juco he'll be our best pass rusher.

Couldn't get past the first two paragraphs without LOL my apple I was eating at the time on the screen Coke.
Thanks, bill for the new monitor's in the mail. Just have D'No pay it from the money he gets given from out of Al's handbag on payday.
Screencapping it now for posterity and to get a needed laugh if Thomas kills Morris in mop up duty next season and puts him out for the year.

Herb didn't hurt because we didn't limit scholarships he was just able to take w/e kids he wanted. This class had to be very selective and he went after some big recruits he was willing to wait and hope and got burned. So which is it....go after the big time kids who want to wait till NSD OR just go after kids you know you can get but aren't as good.

The class we go ave. 3.4 stars....have to get into top 14 classes for that ave. Only Texas is outside top 14 with the U.
So Golden did HELL OF A JOB...the talent we got is TALENT.

This is a family show so I deleted both comments from both parties. It's funny when U do it once in a while and I let a lot of your stuff slide because I know that's just your style but at some point I gotta draw the line.

Pbcfrcane,
I don't see where we're getting either. Whatever he's doing ain't working and it didn't have to be that selective if we are going to Nigeria to get football players. Last you shouldn't be waiting on 8 kids on signing day to begin with, maybe 3 but not 8. We don't have a bad class, just not great. C+.
Posted by: herbieibis | February 06, 2013 at 06:03 PM
Exactly How many 5* big name kids do U guys really think announce early nowadays????Not Many and with that being said waiting on 8 kids makes more sense than anything especially to ppl who only care about stars anyway....U guys look wht U are typing U are negating yourselves LoL....we want 5stars we dont wanna wait the whole recruiting period Golden aint kissn enuff butt in SoFL pick one and stick with it guys....or jus keep us out of state fans laughn at U..

Who'd we get?
Posted by: usagainsttheworld | February 06, 2013 at 06:31 PM
Coke, because they're classic you start the targeting of your hit out of bounds so there's going to be an automatic deletion penalty of 15 yards at the end of the run is why.
Too bad because surrounded by those hilariously low-brow, muck-raking barbs is a pretty good summation of why 2013 (and by extension Golden's '11 recruiting class) is the point that is now on the clock regarding his future prospects in leaving UM on his terms for the NFL ala Butch or being replaced in two years here when the wheels have obviously fallen off if this current situation continues with the staff.

Don't know about all of the rest of you, but I'm satisfied with the class. Only thing that hurts would be no DTs today, but we have so much depth right now. In Golden We Trust to develop that talent.
*By the way, Knighton is an OT no matter what the recruiting services say.
Posted by: kenyon19ypr | February 06, 2013 at 06:55 PM
Win and they will come! Plain and simple. The BTW shit is being blown out of proportion. Coaches and recruits lie and talk out of both sides of their mouths. Win and they will come. Lose and they will leave. Sileo is an ass clown. He says being in the ACC hurts UM in recruiting. The last time I looked FSU is in the ACC and they have no problem in recruiting.WIN AND THEY WILL COME!

Anyone that's a regular knows as long as you don't attack me I won't attack you. To future posters. Don't try me...
I'll grade out the class:
QB- A+ Olsen is the prototype for our offense & has the "U" pedigree
RB- C+ Edwards is the type of player we we're looking for but wasn't the first option. New York isn't a football hotbed so we'll see...
WR- A+ We only wanted 1 & got the best in the state, maybe even the country.
TE- A+ Sandland is 1 of the top 2 Juco TE's in the country & may start right away & remind us of the old TE "U". Dobard is top 5.
OL- C+ Got some good looking projects in Odogwa, Knighton & Gall but Kirkland would've made this grade a B+
DT- D- Needed at least 2 studs here & only got 1 recruit. A 2* junior college project. ('o') What's his name again???
DE- B+ Bond looks explosive & Muhammad is a beast.
LB- B Figueroa is athletic & could be a steal. Jermaine is the saving "Grace". Matt Thomas would've made this grade an A.
DB- A- Burns & Carter are to of the best in Florida & the country but... Another elite player makes this grade an A+
Ath- B Ray Lewis III has the pedigree & Lockley is athletic. Neither was an elite prospect
Overall B- Met needs but the misses cheated this class from being amazing

Here's what happened guys...golden's 2012 class was recruited partially without the NCAA investigation weighing opinions. His 2013 class...entirely under the cloud.
