An impressive share, I just given this onto a colleague who was doing a little analysis on this. And he the fact is purchased me breakfast simply because I located it for him.. smile. So let me reword that: Thnx for the treat! But yeah Thnkx for spending the time to talk about this, I really feel strongly about it and love reading additional on this topic. If attainable, as you grow to be expertise, would you mind updating your weblog with additional details? It can be highly useful for me. Massive thumb up for this weblog post!

Here's what happened guys...golden's 2012 class was recruited partially without the NCAA investigation weighing opinions. His 2013 class...entirely under the cloud.

CoCane

Anyone that's a regular knows as long as you don't attack me I won't attack you. To future posters. Don't try me...

I'll grade out the class:

QB- A+ Olsen is the prototype for our offense & has the "U" pedigree

RB- C+ Edwards is the type of player we we're looking for but wasn't the first option. New York isn't a football hotbed so we'll see...

WR- A+ We only wanted 1 & got the best in the state, maybe even the country.

TE- A+ Sandland is 1 of the top 2 Juco TE's in the country & may start right away & remind us of the old TE "U". Dobard is top 5.

OL- C+ Got some good looking projects in Odogwa, Knighton & Gall but Kirkland would've made this grade a B+

DT- D- Needed at least 2 studs here & only got 1 recruit. A 2* junior college project. ('o') What's his name again???

DE- B+ Bond looks explosive & Muhammad is a beast.

LB- B Figueroa is athletic & could be a steal. Jermaine is the saving "Grace". Matt Thomas would've made this grade an A.

DB- A- Burns & Carter are to of the best in Florida & the country but... Another elite player makes this grade an A+

Ath- B Ray Lewis III has the pedigree & Lockley is athletic. Neither was an elite prospect

Overall B- Met needs but the misses cheated this class from being amazing

Win and they will come! Plain and simple. The BTW shit is being blown out of proportion. Coaches and recruits lie and talk out of both sides of their mouths. Win and they will come. Lose and they will leave. Sileo is an ass clown. He says being in the ACC hurts UM in recruiting. The last time I looked FSU is in the ACC and they have no problem in recruiting.WIN AND THEY WILL COME!

kenyon19ypr

Don't know about all of the rest of you, but I'm satisfied with the class. Only thing that hurts would be no DTs today, but we have so much depth right now. In Golden We Trust to develop that talent.

*By the way, Knighton is an OT no matter what the recruiting services say.

Coke, because they're classic you start the targeting of your hit out of bounds so there's going to be an automatic deletion penalty of 15 yards at the end of the run is why.

Too bad because surrounded by those hilariously low-brow, muck-raking barbs is a pretty good summation of why 2013 (and by extension Golden's '11 recruiting class) is the point that is now on the clock regarding his future prospects in leaving UM on his terms for the NFL ala Butch or being replaced in two years here when the wheels have obviously fallen off if this current situation continues with the staff.

Pbcfrcane,
I don't see where we're getting either. Whatever he's doing ain't working and it didn't have to be that selective if we are going to Nigeria to get football players. Last you shouldn't be waiting on 8 kids on signing day to begin with, maybe 3 but not 8. We don't have a bad class, just not great. C+.

Herb didn't hurt because we didn't limit scholarships he was just able to take w/e kids he wanted. This class had to be very selective and he went after some big recruits he was willing to wait and hope and got burned. So which is it....go after the big time kids who want to wait till NSD OR just go after kids you know you can get but aren't as good.

So lets talk about which frosh will make immediate impacts next year. Any opinions?

Posted by: CoCane | February 06, 2013 at 05:41 PM

My impact freshmen:
1) Gus Edwards
2) Artie Burns

But I think Sandland and Bond will start and their impact will be noticed this spring. If Bond does half of what he did at juco he'll be our best pass rusher.

herbieibis

The Facts:
2011: No DT's on signing day. We later add King & Darius Smith.
2012: We have Moore verballed and steal Ivery from the Ville on signing day and get Briscoe.
2013: No DT's.
We flip Pierre & Grimble to tackles, from the 2011 class an add about 30 LBS to both in one year. To much weight to quick. Both will be JRS this coming season. We have Porter and Robinson who will be SRs, this year. I don't and haven't seen any star power out of none of those guys and we ain't bring in to much competition for them either. The major theme here is it's always down to the last few days if we are or are not getting any DT's. Why is that? I know Flo. is not usually a hot bed for big time DT's or for Linemen period, the same with LB's. I know we need to comb the U.S. to get some players, like linemen & LB's, but the rest is in our backyard. Kids are always going to flip and will continue to do so, until they get an early signing period but we should never be in this situation again, on signing day where we need to get a position of need filled.
The looming sanctions don't help but it didn't hurt us last year. There is no excuse. I think we got lax, picked a few certain players out and played Russian Roulette and lost. We had some nice additions, don't get me wrong but knowing one of our major weaknesses and not filling it after 4 months is pathetic! You win ships with defense and no we don't have the same things to offer as other major universities, like big stadiums, fancy weightrooms, big alumni bases and packed houses for every game but we have a past filled with ships and NFL alumnist and it's a pro town. Tic for tac however you want to weigh it, I don't care where the talent comes from as long as they produce but we have to stock pile depth of talent sometime or another. I have eyes and I can look at other sites and see why they are on top and are staying there. The SEC is the premier football conference and is going to remain that way from what I witness in recruiting today. We need to worry about building a championship defense first and foremost and until we do that, we are going to wallow aroung in this sucky azz conference, struggling to beat the Virginia's of the world.

CoCane

For now... I'll give a pass to the NCAA black cloud over the program. The fact that we haven't won big in while has made "U" unattractive. We still have a good, not elite class but still good. I still hope that this coaching staff can bring the results we hope for. I still think they can do it if they make the right adjustments & learn from their mistakes. Winning cures everything. I'm hoping they win the coastal next year & get the south florida talent back to swinging on our dikk. I still want Golden to succeed, because if he does, the "U" is back.

So lets talk about which frosh will make immediate impacts next year. Any opinions?

RCCF12%, I agree with you. It seems like most of the level headed fans on this site are not from S. Florida.

A few days a ago Golden was great and now he sucks because we have a very good recruiting class. C'mon... At times U fans are so delusional and so finicky. That is why S. Florida fans have such a bad reputation.

Let's be happy with the players who did sign cause those are the ones we will be cheering for the next couple of years. These guys are true 'Canes.

Who knows, 2 years from now we may be saying what an unbelievable class we got.

For the foreseeable future. Golden ain't going anywhere so either cheer for him or find a different team rag on.

Amazing This time last year Golden was the man one year later with limited scholarships and find out they limited player visits he sucks even though with all this coral he still brining in a top 25 class oh btw we did have a couple of DT who were freshman last year that as actually can get better I know crazy that kids could improve

VA Cane

We cannot compete with Bama on field or for players; aint gonna happen. Saban will compete every year for the title for a while, they will be good. They get good players and coach very well. They run the ball, play tough D, punish people up front on both lines and have smart QBs; they are not fancy. Those kids are afraid to fail, Saban disciplines people. Thats how you win. We have the cloud, we are out of the loop, we draw small crowds, we do not have that dynamic faithful fan support so it is tough. We have to work harder and smarter. Urban will get back in the mix, Florida got a lot of kids (Muschamp is a frumpy slob) FSU gets a lot of kids(but who could not get in that kindergarten academic school) and others are beating us out for kids. We do need to recruit SoF better, too many got away. Lot of kids in Top 100 from Teax as well, we need some of them. We have got to learn to play D; we can score but we stop nobody, and we are not tough on D. We got better, but we must get some great D linemen, we do not have them.

I don't think we land Collins either but that was my impression of the analyst (forgot his name unfortunately).

Would REALLY suck if he went to FSWho.

Wonder how this new information about the NCAA investigation being over is going to affect his decision.

Wouldn't be surprised he took all week to decide.

I'll be happy if he comes to Miami. I personally like the kid. He seems like a good, smart kid who's genuinely struggling with his decision and trying to balance a lot of competing interests.

GO CANES.

Canezitis

Someone said on sileo's show, that the reason we're not doing so well in sofl is because dno is a horrible recruiter. Probably a big reason why we got cristobal and paid coley so much $. This next recruiting cycle better be much better for sofl kids.being irrelevant and NCAA cloud has killed us, so hopefully those 2 things will be addressed this upcoming season. All in all not a bad class, but we'll see in 2-3 yrs.

elliott

Best 'sign' today from the signatures collected is the FB, even if he's a washout in a final analysis, it signals to me pro-style base for the offense which is important for NFL development chances and my preferred style of offense to pay money to watch employed by a college team.

orange 'n green in the vein

360, I'm not questioning anything about your any-hood, I'm stating my opinion that the consensus top talent in UM's backyard shouldn't be out there saying they can't trust UM coaches because they are liars and just letting that hang there as not an issue that it is. Al drew his line in the sand and for the short term has ended up buried in it. Hopefully that's the watershed moment we can point back to down the road and say was the act that straightened up some of this local intrigue BS once and for all but right now it's not and UM's suffering for it which is concerning for the future not entertaining in the moment.

But as always, you have to account for the fact that I'm coming up with my next dig at the mutants from Philly that's bordering on out of bounds while I type this, so LOL at what you like at the end of the day, that's part of the reason why this is here after all.

CoCane

Funny how Thomas was never going to Miami after he says Golden fukked up. Really. I made enough excuses for Shannon. Never again. After years of mediocrity, I want fukkin results. Not excuses. We've been getting a heavy dose of excuses even though Golden said he wasn't going to make any...

orange 'n green in the vein

360, I can't give you an accurate answer right now because of uncertainties about what he's going to implement and how he's going to handle the roster in regards to strategy and deployment weekly, but my basically uneducated on those key factors guess at this point is, probably.

Now if you want me to read your question as, "Would you trade Thomas over 2007 FIU OC Coley showing up to coach UM in 2013?" Yes, unquestionably.

A DT would could step in and disrupt plays with a quick first step would have been even more a slam dunk affirmative answer to either readings of your question.

360Cane

ogv, it's just like a business getting ONE bad review when I can show you multiple good reviews. And take this for what it's worth...

Future recruits are going to want to see for themselves. Not let some dude they don't even know decide for them.

It's a VERY fishy situation, and I'm cool with taking it on the chin and moving on. Now you're questioning my fan hood because I do not see it as a big deal. Are you new to recruiting or something? Take out your personal feelings and look at it as a business.

Miami does not have the foundation to worry about these NSD flip-floppers. Now what we need to do is go whisper in Grace's ear that we did not want him so he can grow a chip on his shoulder the size of the ones they use to wear in the 80's.

herbiebitchingibis

Golden:
I'm really excited about the young men we signed today. We addressed a hugh need at TE and really upgraded at that position. We need a big back to compliment Duke and we acheived that with Gus Edwards. We added depth on the offensive line, as well as LB, DE & in the secondary.
Al, what about DT? Well as you know we have all our defensive tackles are coming back and sure we're disappointed that we didn't get one but I feel really good about who we have coming back. I mean these guys will be veterans next year and hopefully we get more than 13 sacks and improve upon our 116th ranked defense.
Al, what about BTW fiasco? Miscommunication, was all it really was. We asked the kid to give us his verbal early and he didn't want too. Had he told us we were his choice, nothing else would of taken place but the fool didn't want too, so we jerked the dam thing. It was a simple yes or no question, not a maybe or might, F that. The Iceman ran with that story to Manuel and it F'Ed us up with Matt Thomas. Matt said he was coming here, was a silent commit. Dam FSU took advantage of my azz and stole that boi. That's a bunch of B.S.
So Al that had to sting, losing a 5* Lb right in your own backyard. Dam straight, it hurts. Now I have to go look under some dam rocks and give a ship, one of about 5 I have left, and give it to a kid who was hiding. It will probably bring our overall recruiting ranking down from 54, which sux.
Coach one more question, how do you mend those fences with some of the local coaches. Fences, hell the way all these other schools came in here and tore them down, I feel naked.
Coach what about Alex Collins and his mom running off with his LOI from Arky. Dam smart woman. She brought it to me but what could I do wiff it. Dude F'Ed up to begin with, that's her problem. Look I have 5 ships left anyone know of some under the radars, you tell them good Ole Al will throw them a bone.
Gentlemen, it's been real. Got to go console DENO. Why coach, because I didn't help him much and he knows that hot red poker is up his azz, pushing him out the door. I told him he was on his own next year. Dam if I'm going to take the heat off him one more minute.

CoCane

Soup,

I am relaxed. Lol! Golden isn't relaxed. His hands were shaking holding the mic during his 1st interview on ESPN. He was trying to hold it together but was shook by the disaster with his top targets dissing him. NO DT'S. The main position he needed to make a power move on. Then no Matt Thomas because he didn't trust Golden after the treatment of his teammate. He tried to pressure Kirkland into a decision & FUKKED UP ROYALLY. You can blindly believe all you want but I ain't feeling him. He's got next year to prove that he's got things going in the right direction. By putting a much improved D on the field & making it to the ACC champ game. Anything less than that & fukk'em.

The Wizard

Where can I watch Golden's press conference LIVE ?

360, yes, the problem is you have a recruit of his stature saying that UM is the outlier in that designation to the point it becomes an actionable issue to his decision of where to go to school and play football.

360, yes, the problem is you have a recruit of his stature saying that UM is the outlier in that designation to the point it becomes an actionable issue to his decision of where to go to school and play football.

Nothing funny about that if you are Hurricane, 'fan,' or alum, even.

360Cane

So Thomas is saying our coaching staff lied and can't be trusted. LMAO!!!

Isn't that ALL of college football?

orange 'n green in the vein

No, he can comment on signed players because they are no longer recruits in the NCAA's view. He won't because he'll be too busy getting the makeup to stick over the proverbial black eye he's sporting today over it, at least 'smart facade' Golden wouldn't. Who knows what this 'starting to crack' Golden is going to actually do? He's becoming the Keef of Big 3 Sunshine State football coaches ever since the Duke game.

360Cane

Ironically, it was February 6, 2008, and the Canes just landed the #1 class with an overwhelming 33 players. 5 years later, not even a conference championship and ONE 9 win season. Just sayin'.

Felipe

I think he has to duck and ignore the BTW questions. For one, relationship reasons. For another, didn't get any paperwork from Muthafxn Traitor or Denver.

Old Skool

Here's how I imagine the 4:00 presser will go down. Golden praise the talents and future prospects of the recruiting class, expresses disappointment over not signing any DTs and then ducks or ignores lots of questions regarding what actually happened with BTW players and the coach.

86Cane

Be in denial all you want but the Dade county talent DOES NOT TRUST GOLDEN. We'll never know what really happened but shyt is fukked up as far as the relationship with the players. Dam...

Stop making excuses for the defense, technique, Deno, scheme, whatever, talent wins in the end and FSU has got it to spare. We used to win with depth of talent up front. A weak front 7 will cause you to be ranked 116!

Obviously DTs dont want to play for NoD.

Which is really kind of dumb. I mean, even more than a lot of defenses, I see this one as utterly dependent on having that one really big guy (that we don't have).

Which reminds me: what's going on with Grimble? Is he going to play at end, or are they trying to make him genuinely big?

Unless we get a surprise I haven't heard about, yes.

"High flop factor there."

Agreed.

Are we done with today?

Coley + Grace > Thomas + Bryant

Bryant seems like the guy too concerned with trolling and screwing around. High flop factor there.
